Ansgar Staudinger

"Fire and Damnation...." The Ereb tactician muttered to himself as he was making his way to Dragonrage Pass. Quite the name, Ansgar mused, the reason for such a naming could be seen for a variety of manners. One story was the rage of one of the dragons created such a pass, fanciful, but unlikely. While the Manakate kind certainly took upon themselves the form of a dragon, Ansgar was not one to put faith in divine dragons. Nay, his faith was much simpler, and far more reliable. But that was for another day of consideration really, as he made his way through the brush. He didn't want to be caught out in the open should he find trouble rather than anything else going on. And it was wise to assume as such, trouble was all he would find as fate conspired to further delay his already late schedule. Of course he would stumble across trouble that intended to prevent him from progressing further, to try and make up time on his already late schedule.

Quite a few Gleivnir fellows, including one of their Warriors and the rest Footmen. Sure, a footman by himself was a laughable threat. But what appeared to be twenty five or so of them? Coupled with a Warrior leader? That would be, to an outside, casual glance, quite the threat indeed. However, there were a few key points that people tended to forget. Any group that relied on their leader overmuch, such as large groups of Footmen by virtue of their lack of actual skill outside fodder, could be vastly confused and scattered by a well placed blow to the head, or leader in this case. Gleivnir folk, thankfully, were not of Varjo and were not as heavily focused into fighting as those lot might be. From his hidden position, Ansgar noted a few more things. The royal guarding some abhuman girl, narrowing his eyes, he made out that it was, indeed, King Azure of Arachnea. Great, the tactician thought, this would make things more difficult. He could not leave a royal of an Concillium kingdom hanging in the breeze, as they say, but the numbers made this tricky. He suspected he spotted others beyond the footmen and their leading warrior, so he had a gambit he could play then. If they be friends, he would be able to buy time for the King and the incoming allies to strike at the exposed rear of the footmen. If they were foes, well, he'd figure that out. Buy time for the king and his ward to flee, then ditch the footmen and allies in the woods.

Deciding on a course of action, Ansgar quietly grasped his Arcthunder, focusing his attention on the Gleivnir warrior, opening his tome and feeling the energy pulse through his veins. This was what made him enjoy using magical tomes, the feeling that rushed in his veins. The knowledge that the storm was coming, and in this case, they would not even see it coming. A hold over from his families insistence on feeling the tide of war as much as knowing it objectively. Calling forward the energies from Arcthunder, his face twisted as he, with a motion, aiming the entire force of the Arcthunder strike straight down onto the head of the Warrior, guiding it with pinpoint precision from his hiding point. With the strike made, Ansgar was revealed as he was seen at the edge of the clearing, standing with tome in one hand, his Levin Sword in the other, glaring coldly at the footmen of Gleivnir descent. His tone was cold and harsh, carrying through the clearing in an attempt to route the Gleivnir forces in one strike. "Accosting a royal of any kingdom bears with it a heavy penalty, you men are aware, yes? Some of a harsher cut might even consider death the only suitable penalty. Flee, and we will not pursue. This is your only chance." The Erebian tactician fully suspected that they would not turn and run, so he had to hope that his plan and read on the situation was as accurate as he thought it was, or this could go south in a hurry. Not that he would let that kind of doubt show.
Looks like its time to post then, sure as sure.
Meanwhile, I need me something to shoot. A lot. Before the storm bolter jams.
@PaulHaynek
Much obliged, always a fun time defying the gods of Chaos. Not like they will make your life difficult, nope, not at all. And no worries, I await the point where I can begin posting, and send the good tactician into harms way to fight for his friends! Wait, wrong person...

@cloudystar
I can see the lack of fliers being regrettable, but I found the lack of magic most disturbing indeed.
@Delta44 Well, considering you're talking to a massive DFO nut here? You get nothing but top marks from me. He's a fine character beyond appearances, but it was a good preface for it, sure as sure. I know the pain of trying to find good appearances, though, either it was too FF like, or it was Robin xD
Ansgar had little to say as the shuttle went about its trip, continuing to maintain his silence whilst considering what was going on thus far. The Arbites trooper had given him a rather dirty look when they first met, but Ansgar was justified, as far as he reckoned. Inquisition demanded higher alertness and security considerations, so he would not be found wanting in those regards. As such, an armed and armored individual, even wearing the trappings of an Arbites, was to be treated with due suspicion. Besides, things had been far too quiet for the Krieger's liking, he had expected more out of the Inquisition. Then again, his only dealings with them had been on a planet plunging headlong into Daemon planet status, so he really did not have the entire picture in that regard. As they touched down and orders were given out, Ansgar had no qualms with following through with them. As he had mused before, orders were orders, and that was that in that regard.

The Grenadier, unsurprisingly, had little to say as he marched forward with the rest of the retinue, the Sister's orders clear in that regard. Also, considering how lacking he had been in the vocal, communication department, so it was hardly surprising that he was likely the most silent of the group, literally saying nothing as a new Sister reported and they were informed of a Rhino on standby. He preferred a Chimera, really, but he wouldn't turn his nose up at a Rhino. It was leaps and bounds better than any sort of aircraft, after all. If he had to choose a vehicle he'd be most comfortable with? Hades Breaching Drill, those things were his pride and joy whenever he got his hands on one as an Engineer. But, not the most suitable for transport, so he would content himself with the fact that the Rhino would be rather good of an option to take over any sort of air travel. Still, he missed the Guard vehicles of choice, and that would not likely change. He was more likely to be able to drive a Guard vehicle than any other.

The first thing Ansgar noted upon reaching and boarding the Rhino was that the cargo hold area for troops was clearly designed for power armor in mind. It was spacious and large, for an unarmored human, so it was not as cramped as a Chimera. Then again, Chimeras also did not carry Space Marines, Sisters of Battle, so on and so forth, into battle. However, when the order was given to take up position in the turret, Ansgar was ahead of everyone else, moving forward towards the hatch that did not have all the mechanical crap in the way, and had one of the Storm Bolters, having spotted it when approaching the vehicle. Perhaps the other was controlled from within? Regardless, Ansgar worked the hatch open and hauled himself up into position, checking over the Storm Bolter. Not his usual choice of heavy weapon, understanding that they often were not heavy weapons for Space Marines or Sisters, but the amount of bolter rounds he'd seen the things spit out was impressive, to say the least. He kept his report clipped and precise, already scanning their surroundings for anything awry, regardless of the situation dictating it or not.

"Turret Manned, ma'am. Scanning for potential threats, active and passive. Will report as necessary."
@Polaris North

I suppose rushing the Chaos Gods hardly ever works, but one can always plead with them. It will all go just as planned though, regardless of the plan.
@PaulHaynek

Certainly don't mean to sound impatient, but any news on the CS accept/reject?

@Delta44

Love the appearance for him, gotta love that male mage.
@Laach

Well, you're far too kind really, I certainly appreciate that ol' Ansgar was as well received as he seems to have been. Certainly looking forward to seeing things rolling forward then, sure as sure. Thought we could use a roguish type while designing my guy personally, and threw in an idea that's been lurking for some time now with the tarot cards.
@PaulHaynek

I shall await the time that the Chaos Gods speak clearly, then, shall I?

And reading up on the fellows of this merry band would be a good way to spend a lunch break indeed, sure as sure.
