Wiry and lithe, Riley had the build someone might have expected from an athlete, though it's clear that in the recent years his physique hasn't been nearly as well taken care of. While never particularly tall, Riley often appears deceptively shorter due to being more or less confined to his wheelchair. His left leg has been amputated below the knee, and while he wears a prosthetic most of the time, walking has still proved a challenge to him. Riley's dark brown hair has been dyed blonde, is regularly in an unkempt mess, and a scowl adorns his face near permanently. His skin is pale and the lack of sunshine has resulted in a rather dire vitamin D deficiency. He generally wears baggy clothes to hide his figure, but his fashion sense can be regarded as 'vaguely techwear'.

Rathello

In Tales of Endorath Riley chose the Firbolg race, regarded as both the smallest of the Giant-kin, and the largest of the available races in the game for players. Rathello stands in at about ten feet in height, with blued skin and hair. In a single word, Rathello is brawny. Large and imposing, Rathello very much plays to the idea of a giant turned adventurer. Rathello is dressed in much a typical fantasy adventurer, well maintained but patchwork pieces of leather, linen and steel. Riley is not particularly attached to any one piece of Rathello's appearance, and changes out gear and style as his tastes- and the equipment's stats, change.

According to friends and family, before the accident, Riley was a veritable ball of sunshine, gregarious, friendly, social and personable. Following the accident however, Riley has gotten considerably more sullen and irritable. Borderline antisocial, Riley is extremely quiet, and spends the bulk of his days indoors, avoiding communication with all but a few. Conversations he does have are widely regarded to be short, curt and argumentative. Due in part to his injury, Riley is insecure and avoids physical interactions when possible.

In stark contrast, Rathello acts very much like Riley did before his accident. Brave and bold, Rathello, while not part of a guild at current, is well reputed among raiding guilds as a reliable team player. Selfless and stalwart, Rathello will regularly throw himself into harms way for both party members and strangers in need. While generally more than happy to help when asked, Rathello has a habit of not exactly thinking things through and occasionally be a bit headstrong and stubborn. He's fairly competitive, and understands most of the games mechanics, but isn't quite as deep in as the no-lifers- though it's debatable how much of a life he has irl anyway. As a part of his own personal enjoyment, Rathello roleplays his character when interacting with NPCs, but generally talks like a gamer when dealing with other players.

Riley grew up generally removed from the digital world. Born in Los Angeles before moving to the Chicago suburbs when he was 5. He was born the oldest of two, to an upper middle class family with plenty of access to resources. Riley took naturally to sports from a young age, joining various school teams as he was growing up. Well regarded as the prime example of a scholar-athlete, Riley did well in sports and school alike, earning himself a full ride to UChicago on a sports scholarship for soccer. While not destined for a career in professional sports, with no student debts to worry about, Riley was all but guaranteed a bright future.

The summer after his first year in college, Riley was struck on his way home by a drunk driver.

Riley woke up in the hospital to find himself with a broken leg, and a missing one. Due to complications with the injury, and the state he was found in, his left leg had gone septic and needed to be removed in order to save his life. He survived but spent the next several months in and out of the hospital.

While the accident itself didn't cause Riley to lose his scholarship, it did effect how he interacted with the world around him. He more or less closed himself off from everything. His friendships broke, his grades began to fall, his scholarship going away with it. Close to dropping out of school, it was only through a miracle that Riley managed to graduate, though not in his original field.

Now a graduate, stuck in a thankless, soulless job to pay off his student debts and medical bills, Riley found Tales of Endorath while trawling the internet and ended up buying himself a VR kit and copy of the game on impulse. The game quickly took over what parts of his life were available, and he immersed himself in the world so much different than his own, bleaker one. Riley spends more or less all of his free time when not at work or physical therapy in the game- though he does work from home, so sometimes he also spends his work hours in game as well.

Gauntlets of the Storm Bear (Legendary) - Technically not a weapon, the Gauntlets of the Storm Bear are 1 of a 6 part 'Primal Guardians' druid set that Riley spent the better part of 3 months grinding for. While the gauntlets themselves can be used as unarmed weapons, infusing melee strikes with additional lightning damage, their primary ability allows druids to access the Storm Bear wildshape form.

In his Storm Bear form, Rathello has increased strength and defense, and massively increased health stats. The Storm Bear itself takes the shape of a giant bear with motifs of thunderbolts on its claws and a thundercloud like 'mane' of sorts around the neck. Its claw strikes are infused with lightning element and it can do thunder damage with a short ranged roar. While in this form, the Storm Bear is resistant to lightning damage, and while he can use class abilities, he cannot cast spells.

Belt of the Blade Wolf (Rare) - The Belt of the Blade Wolf is 1 of a 6 part 'Primal Guardians' set for druids. The belt itself passively boosts the user's movement speed by a small amount, but it's primary function is to unlock the Blade Wolf wildshape form for druids.

While in the Blade Wolf form, Rathello has increased speed and strength stats, and minorly increased health stats. The form itself takes the shape of a grey Dire Wolf gripping a greatsword in its jaws. The attack boost granted by this form is directly influenced by the user's currently equipped weapon, which is required to be a bladed weapon.

Orcsteel Greatsword - An uncommonly found drop from the Green Tide theme dungeon. Its attack stat is only marginally higher than that of a standard steel sword, but has considerably better durability stats.

Druidic Tattoo - Divine tattoos inscribed onto the arms to allow for Druidic spellcasting in place of a traditional focus like a staff or wand.

Traveller's Pack - A set of useful tools for those in the wild. Waterskin, climbing rope, pitons, and dried rations along with a small knife and bedroll.

Basic Health and Magic Potions - Small potions to restore health and MP respectively. Any good player never leaves town with at least a few.

Wildshape - Rathello's primary focus with his Druidic magic revolves around wildshaping. Rathello can transform into any beast-type creatures that he's defeated. While primarily used for combat, he can also use other forms for scouting, traveling, or even pranks. Rathello currently has access to 2 of the 6 Primal Guardian forms, though uses them sparingly due to their high MP cost and his comparatively low MP pool.

Basic Druidic Spellcasting - While not his primary focus, Rathello is capable of low level druidic magic. He can promote the growth of plants, create acid claws and conjure thorn traps, as well as create small sparks of fire or shift small amounts of earth.

Frenzied Rage - Rathello's primary combat skill allows him to enter a Barbarian Rage. While in his Rage state, Rathello's attack, defense, and speed stats drastically increase and he is immune to status effects such as fear, charm or exhaustion, but he cannot cast spells. While Rathello can tell the difference between friend and foe, while in this state he cannot prioritize enemies and must target the nearest foe within sight.

Power Strike - As simple as it sounds. Use a small amount of MP to make an attack with increased damage.

Unarmed Expertise - While his class is capable of wielding weapons of all types, Rathello has specialized with unarmed and natural weapons.

Keen Perception - A must for frontliners and raid leaders, Rathello is well practiced in spotting traps and ambushes, and has a natural sense attuned to incoming danger

Outdoor Survivalist - As an adventurer style player who often journeys far from towns, being able to navigate and survive in the wilderness is a must. Rathello knows how to hunt and forage as necessary to help keep himself and his party alive

Natural Bulk - In TOE there are two main ways to tank- Soak and Dodge. Rathello subscribes to the former. As his combination of classes limit the amount and types of armor he's allowed to wear, Rathello instead focuses on having a massive HP pool to tank incoming damage.

Intimidating Pressence - While not nearly as useful in PvP combat, in PvE Rathello is able to draw rather large amounts of enemy aggro, often forcing enemies to focus on him instead of his party members. When interacting with NPCs, when necessary Rathello can use the force of threat to influence them.

Wildspeak - Rathello can communicate with most Beast Type creatures, though his low charisma stats often relegate his communication and requests to simple or basic questions or commands.

Permanent Lockpicking - A literally brute force method of opening locked things. Rathello can usually smash open doors, chests, or any other method of preventing someone from accessing something. Usually with mixed results, and ineffective against magic.

Rathello has been in Tales of Endorath for almost two years now. Initially Riley spent almost no time at all in character creation, picking Firbolg 'because it was the biggest' and Barbarian 'because it was the biggest'. With little care for any of the backstory or world building portions of the game, Riley threw himself into the game because he was bored and had nothing else to do. He spent the first couple hours of the game walking around. 6 hours later, he realized he loved he game. He spent some money on a character appearance change token and tried began to replay the game in earnest.

Since then he's run the gamut: solo dungeons, party raids, field bosses, even the occasional RP session in towns, quickly jumping up in levels and the global ranking. Often questing, Rathello finds little joy in any of the 'professions' people can do with their downtime in town. More often than not Rathello is often seen spending his downtime just, walking. Always a pretty good guy with numbers, Rathello balances the number crunching and optimization with the desire to keep a 'theme' to his character.

To the TOE community, Rathello has earned a reputation for a bold, yet reliable tank, readily jumping into party dungeons and raids with whomever wants to go. He's been scouted by a number of the main raiding guilds, but for the moment seems to enjoy the freedom as a 'free agent'. Nevertheless, he's formed many connections with members of these guilds and has a stellar reputation as the goto sub/backup when a guild's main tank is busy for some reason or another.

Helmut was lying on the couch, not noticing anything being said to him. He lay on the sofa with his hands over his face. He wants to cover his eyes from the blinding lights of the room. He didn’t feel well from drinking all of those beers. “Fuck why did I even agree to this stupid game.” Muttering under his breath. Feeling nauseous and that he was going to vomit at any moment.

Helmut seemed to perk up when Harper mentioned a hot tub. In his drunken stupor, he thought being in a hot tub would be a good idea. “Wait for me, Frau Harper.” He stood up slowly while stumbling behind Harper. Oddly enough, his eyes were staring at her figure, something he usually wouldn’t do while sober. When he and Harper got near the hot tub, he noticed he hadn’t brought swim shorts. He wasn't sure if he should get in without wearing some swim shorts.

A realistic optimist, Robert is someone who tends to look for the bright side of things but still makes sure to keep it in the framework of realism. A cautiously optimistic person, one might say. For instance, in an essay for a philosophy class, he once wrote that while on a global scale, humanity as a race is actually pretty awesome and has massive potential, on the other hand, he keeps in mind that most people are not the exemplars of what the best of humankind can offer, and therefore keeping in mind that collectively humanity is an existence full of wonder and potential but most people you meet will disappoint you, is the wisest course of action one might take. A less philosophical example is the fact that while he sees his job, acting, as a great artistic endeavour that explores deep into the psyche and consciousness of a role that may bring forth hidden insight and deeper truths of who people are...starving artist is a thing for a reason, and theatre actor is not really paying the bill, so better quit while you're ahead and switch track.

In his personal life, Robert tends to be more on the introverted scale of social engagement type, rather than the extroverted one. Of course, being an actor, he has no issues putting on a more extroverted mask, and he does it often. He doesn't quite like it, but is also pragmatic enough to chalk it to 'just how the world is'. Just like how some people are more academically talented and thus can go through schools easier than others, some people are just more socially talented, while others have to put in extra work. Nevertheless, on his off days, he dislikes going out unless necessary, opting to stay at his apartment reading books, playing music, and of course, gaming.

As a gamer, Robert gravitates to RPG exactly because to him, immersing oneself in an RPG as the character you create feels like acting to a certain extent. He doesn't exactly have a specific class he doesn't like to play, but he tends to always incorporate some form of magic into his build. While focusing mostly on roleplay, Robert also enjoys theorycrafting builds and min-maxing the build for optimal efficiency.

Background:

Having been enamoured with acting ever since joining the theatre club in middle school, Robert Holden, once upon a time, was someone who was idealistic enough to throw away a scholarship to a prestigious university in the STEM field to study acting instead...to his parents chagrin, of course. Of course, unlike many stories written in the scripts, the real world is not always kind to idealism, and he found himself struggling to make it as a theatre actor, he landed good roles here and there, but the reality was that it simply did not pay enough for rent. Robert 'wisened up' and thus came to his current 'realistically optimist' outlook, decided to quit while he was ahead and took the offer of an agent to switch to more glamorous showbiz instead. Starting as a small extra here and there, he had made considerable progress in showbiz within the past 3 years. While he was nowhere an A-list actor, he had recently got a breakthrough by landing the main lead role in a TV show adaptation of a rather popular fantasy romance novel.

He realized that rather than pure acting skill, the agency was more interested in his pretty boy look, but he figured you gotta do what you gotta do. That being said, he did miss the artistic side of acting. Of delving into a role, researching and imagining what the person he was playing would be like as a real person, and eventually immersing himself in the role that for the period of the performance, he was no longer Robert Holden, but the character he was playing. To Robert, the joy of acting is precisely when you are portraying a character that is vastly different from who you are. And thus, when he heard of the virtual MMO Tales of Endoroth, he became interested in using the game as an outlet, by becoming a persona, as different from himself as possible. Of course, being a man, one of the roles that would be the furthest from who he is...is to act as a woman. It's not something done on television or in movies unless the role is specifically a transgender role, or something along those lines because television is more 'grounded' than the surrealism of theatre. In theatre, it was a practice with a long tradition from Cross-gender acting in Greece to the 'onnagata' of Japan's Kabuki theatre. Robert had always been interested from an artistic perspective, but hadn't actually had the chance to do such roles, and so...that was how Claudia Solaria von Gatriel joined the world of Tales of Endoroth.

A magic item of legendary rarity that is a very rare drop of the boss Nyx from the 'Emergence of the Old Gods' event in TOE. The longsword deals fire and slashing damage. Though limited by a cooldown, it can also be used to channel purple flames in the shape of a tentacle for a ranged attack, dealing necrotic and fire damage in a large AOE. Each time it felled an enemy, the soul counter goes up, to a maximum of 5. Each 'soul' can be expended to deal extra damage or heal the user. Expended souls cannot be replenished until the next day. Robert grinded the Nyx boss for the sword extensively, to the point of almost missing an audition the next day because he overslept.

Flame Strike
Conjure a divine pillar of flames with a 10-foot radius and height of 40 feet, that can be conjured within 100 feet of the caster. Half the damage is fire damage, but the other half results directly from divine power and is therefore not subject to being reduced by resistance to fire-based attacks.

Spirit Guardians
Summon guardian spirits within a 15-foot radius of oneself. For the duration of the spell. Hostiles within the radius have their speed reduced and take radiant damage over time while friendlies receive increased defense.

Eldritch Blast
A beam of crackling energy that streaks toward a creature within 120 feet range. At the current character level, eldritch blast summons four beams, each can be directed at different targets.

Tendrils of Protection
Conjures black and shadowy eldritch tendrils that increase defence. The user can choose to end the spell by having the tendrils sprout in a 5-feet radius around the user, dealing psychic damage and chance of giving the frightened status at afflicted enemies.

Designate one enemy as a target of divine fury. While the spell is active, attacks from the user or its allies against the enemy have additional radiant damage.

Channel Positive Energy
Heals allies in a 30-foot radius of the user with divine energy.

Virtual History:
A scion of the noble house of Gatriel, having the power to command celestial magic due to being descended from Gatriel the heavenly angel, Claudia Solaria von Gatriel used to be a Countess who made a contract with the old god Xal'Zagoth to prevent her people and fief from being burnt down by an Ancient Dragon. The old god returned the ancient dragon to slumber, but in return, Claudia must now serve as his champion, doing his bidding lest the dragon awakens once more and devastate her home. In doing the bidding of her patron, Claudia now found herself as a member of the Ebon Covenant, in the company of dangerous and malicious figures who banded together for protection and possible cooperation...such was the nutshell of the backstory for Claudia Solaria von Gatriel that was crafted by Robert.

A male picking female avatars in games is hardly a novel concept. Some do it because they explicitly wish to troll other players, some because 'If I'm spending a lot of time with this character might as well make it a hot girl', and some actually do it in an attempt to explore their sexuality. Robert's reason was none of the above. He was interested purely in its 'artistic merit' as an actor, that is to say, to experience playing a role that is vastly different from who he is. Whereas Robert is an introverted somewhat cynical man, Claudia is an extroverted caring woman who is torn by her natural kindness and her deal with the old god. That is all there is to it to Robert, an interesting role to play and explore, nothing more, nothing less.

Robert first joined TOE about two years ago, about a year after he made the shift from theatre to showbiz. It was at this point, that Robert started to miss actual acting again rather than being a glorified fan service. While there was nothing stopping him from acting, his new schedule made it hard to dedicate time to a theatre troupe. It was then, that a friend of his from high school—who was still pursuing a career in theatre, unlike Robert—invited Robert to join The Ebon Covenant, his RP-focused guild in the virtual MMO Tales of Endoroth. The Ebon Covenant was an RP guild for evil RP, with the concept being a secret society of various evildoers who banded together for protection and ease of cooperation. Its members range from crime lord to a demon possessing a demoniac, to necromancers, to—in Claudia's case—a noblewoman who made a pact with an evil old god.

Now, two years later, what started as just a fun hobby has turned into a passion that Robert sunk quite a bit of time on. He mostly played with the guilds, but as someone who also likes to optimize builds, Robert occasionally plays with players outside the guild, since not all of the guild members focus on grinding for the best loot if it doesn't concern their RP. Of course, while Robert did not go full-on RP mode while playing with players outside the guild, since he treated Claudia as he treated a role he would play in a theatre performance, it was hard to break character completely while on 'Costume', especially after playing the character for so long, making Robert interact with people using the personality of 'Claudia' rather than 'Robert' just minus the whole fantasy noblewoman backstory bit. His ladylike prim and proper mannerisms as well as his fancy way of speaking as Claudia often make people in his party joke about his true identity being some famous socialite rich girl or even the princess of England or some other country that still has monarchs. A fact that Robert is quite pleased with as it means that his acting is impeccable. It is, admittedly a somewhat eccentric way of playing an MMO, but Robert always said that the eccentric artist is a trope for a reason. Art is rather quirky at times.

*Claudia is built with dumping Strength and maximizing Charisma both for melee damage and spell damage.
*Jacob, Robert's friend and Guildmaster of The Ebon Pact is currently the only one who knows Claudia's IRL identity.
