Well then I cannot help you because I do not like One Punch Man, but also One Punch Man is like a giant shounen mockery anyway so there it is.

But there's lots of different anime out there so really I just want people to not think that the popular actiony stuff is representative of the whole. There's plenty'a anime that's legit well done from a writing perspective that just gets buried in the harems and actiony stuff because that's what sells the most shit in Japan
<Snipped quote by Fabricant451>

I mean go ahead, suggest an anime and I'll make an attempt at watching it, but I think I could count on one hand the number of animes that I enjoy.

Well what kind of genres do you like? Personally I go in for the josei style of show. Josei is aimed at women but it's really just a way of saying 'this kind of show has actual characters talking about feelings and shit rather than boring punching and nakama bullshit'. Something like Chihayafuru is a good drama as well as being a good series about a game many probably haven't heard of outside of Japan. Nana is about two girls that become room mates and spend a lot of time dealing with young adult problems of love and stuff and it's really good but remains forever unfinished because the author got seriously ill.

Paradise Kiss is also one I suggest. It's probably the most out and out 'aimed at girls' but don't let that stop you. It's about a high school girl who is bored of her high school life and gets swept up with a group of college fashion designers as their new model as she discovers her own identity and such. Kimi ni Todoke is a charming little series about a girl that looks like the girl from The Ring and her quest to make friends with people that hate her and to find love in the process. It's sweet and nice and just adorable.

The Tatami Galaxy is like anime subbing's end boss because of how whip fast the dialog and pacing of the show is. The Tatami Galaxy is pretty much the anime for people that are like "anime is all the same shit". It's a show about life and how choices affect it which sounds lame or whatever but it's actually really well done and unlike most anime out there in terms of presentation and animation. The difference in animation also extends to:

Aku no Hana Aku no Hana is a strange anime that uses the rotoscoping technique and got a lot of ire for it. I thought it added to the vibe of the show, which is rather unsettling. It's a psychological thriller that is, oddly, darkly romantic. It's about a literature loving student who gets blackmailed by a strange, lonely girl into doing bad things. Seriously, it's real good

Sakamichi no Apollon/Kids on the Slope is a great series about how jazz music brings people together. Set in the 1960s Japan, two people with wildly different personalities come together to play jazz and experience romance (not with each other though it's very bromantic anyway). Great music, solid animation (from the guy what directed Cowboy Bebop) and just a real genuine show with nice characters.

Your Lie in April is really, really, really great. It's about a former music prodigy who, because of reasons, can no longer hear the piano and sees the world in a very bleak manner. Enter the free spirited violinist and watch as love happens.

Cross Game is a time investment but what a great time investment it is. It's about a guy named Kou Kitamura who loves two things: baseball and his neighbor Wakaba Tsukishima. Kou and his family are close with the Tsukishima family and their four daughters. The show revolves around baseball but also at the relationship and character growth of its three leads. Baseball is the backdrop. Come for the baseball. Stay for the relationships. Mitsuru Adachi loves his baseball romance.

Major is one of the few sports anime I really enjoy. It might be because I really like baseball but still. Major is the story of Goro Honda, the son of a professional baseball player. It is six seasons long with each one detailing a different period in Goro's life. From his childhood little league days, his middle school and high school days, to his quest to become a major league player (hence the title) it's ultimately a show about how one guy's love for baseball influences and changes the people around him. It's pretty shounen-esque but there's definitely more attention to the supporting cast and Goro actually learns shit instead of just getting dumb power up pitches.

Gakkou Gurashi!/School Live is a cute and adorable show about girls having adventures in their high school and I highly suggest it.

Space Brothers is about two brothers who, as children, made a promise. "I'll go to the moon!" says younger brother; "I'll go to MARS!" says older brother, since he has to be ahead of his younger brother like any good older brother should. Years later, older brother is working as an engineer while younger brother has become an astronaut. Living a dead-end life after losing his job and failing his promise, Space Brothers is about one man's journey to space. It's character driven light sci-fi with more realistic space jargon than normal science fiction.

Shokugeki no Soma is far and away the most blantant 'this is shounen trash' series I am suggesting. But I don't care because I fuckin' dig it. Instead of ninjas or robots or monkeys with blonde hair, this is a series where the fights are done in the kitchen. Soma attends a really, really prestigious culinary academy while his dad goes away to do cool dad things. This academy is kind of corrupt and there are ten elite chefs that Soma wants to take down because he's a shounen hero. But after catching the anger of the tsundere, he's constantly fighting to stay enrolled as failure means expulsion and expulsion from this school means you'll never cook anywhere decent again. It's like if Iron Chef was serious and anime. At some point during the writing process the author decided to be a bit more realistic and the cooking starts using actual techniques and styles. Once you get past the 'this food is so good it gives people orgasms' of the early episodes it's fairly enjoyable throughout. Second season hype as fuck.

Infinite Ryvius is...kind of rough. The animation doesn't look good even by 1999 standards and it takes its sweet time getting to its own point, but sticking with it past the first four or so episodes gives you a series that is a psychological sci fi drama that's actually social commentary. It's been dumbed down as "Lord of the Flies in space" but that's not giving it full credit. Sure, there are certainly elements of that but it's a bunch of teenagers trying to have their own ideas for a perfect society come to fruition. As the show goes on it does a great job exploring the mental state of these characters as they deal with their harrowing situation. It's real good, but also kinda ruff.

Okay that's some stuff I'd do more but then I might as well just make a thread instead of shitting up this one like I do.

I feel like every anime that isn't shonen is trash

I'm sorry you feel that way, fam.
Most anime is complete and utter trash. There are a few good shows, but about 99% of what is out there is just garbage. This includes SAO, Kill la Kill, Naruto, and even Dragonball Z (I know people love it and maybe the manga was better, but the show was a fucking joke.)

Well yeah if all you watch is this shonen trash then it's no wonder

Good on her. A good queen needs to learn how to not play favorites when it comes to family.

It's less playing favorites and more "Excuse you, there's only one primadonna royalty in this Academy and it's me"
<Snipped quote by Holy Soldier>

Someone needs to take him off his elitist pedestal. :P

That's what half sister queenie is for

Oh, this room mate was certainly not off to a great start and it had only been a handful of minutes. Avery could do little other than lightly chuckle at the words that came out of Skye's mouth; how wonderful, the prince - AT BEST - thought he could perform a power play on the true queen of the Academy. Lesser students have had their social lives ruined for such an offense; there's a reason no one talks about or to the daughter of the Gorgon's anymore and it isn't because of her dreadful hair style. But because it was the first day and because Avery relished the idea of having someone to mold over the course of the year, she was willing to let this one instance slide.

She even said nothing as Skye stomped out of the room, letting the diva have his little tantrum. There were more important matters to attend to anyway, namely the utterly boring task of putting her things from her bags to their space in the closet and wardrobe. But of course, she had to wait for the hired help to arrive, and he did, sweating, panting, but carrying the bags behind him. He requested a moment to sit and rest, but Avery shooed him on his way without so much as a tip for the gratuitous service. Avery swore she could hear the chauffeur cussing under his breath, but she ignored him. Hired help always had something to complain about and it always stemmed from a point of jealousy.

The most difficult part of unpacking was making sure every article of clothing was put up properly. She couldn't mix the dresses with the casual wear and the top drawer was for lacy unmentionables while the second drawer was for comfort; there was a system and like with any good system it took time, but it worked. Avery could've had her driver handle this task as well but the only one allowed to touch her clothing was herself or someone in the process of removing it from her...or her other royal family and court admiring her style.

It was when she was putting away her undergarments that her room mate came back without a word..it was more of a noise. Clearly he was unhappy, and that meant he was clearly in the wrong state of mind. Clearly. Avery shut the drawer of her dresser and walked over to Skye's bed, standing next to it with her arms crossed. After clearing her throat, out of both courtesy and so as not to come off as rude, only to be ignored, Avery took a drastic step. She reached her arm forward and yanked one of the earbuds from his ear.

"Here I was hoping your little tantrum walk would have soothed your mood, but I suppose that would have been too much to ask. Of course you have a complex, everyone here has one - everyone walks around with god complexes which would be humorous if it was not so pathetic. But you lucked out and you do not even seem to notice. Your position in this Academy is on the cusp of raising several notches just from association with yours truly...do you have any idea what that means?"

Avery didn't wait for Skye to respond before continuing her little rant. "If the fact that I have breasts bothers you I suggest you change your attitude sooner rather than later. If it is a boy toy you desire, you will have your pick of the litter; I have friends in places low and high but I am not going to be playing matchmaker for someone who thinks they have drawn the short straw. Let us get one thing straight, Skye Woodsen, I do not defecate where I eat and though I am offering to be your friend - a rare thing in these times - I am not doing so in some effort to sleep with you."

Avery crossed back over towards her side of the room, taking a seat on the edge of her bed. "Now you are either with me or against me but either way whenever you have a man over for a bit of alone time, keep it on your side of the room. I do not wish to sleep on a bed of your nocturnal emissions. We can be very good friends, dear Skye Woodsen, if only you look beyond the immediate."

One thing was for certain, Avery did so enjoy the sound of her own voice.

Alessandra was certainly right about one thing, Birdie Applesale was the one with the eyes. Well, everyone had eyes, but Alessandra noticed Birdie's straight away, even if Birdie hadn't immediately noticed Alessandra; though she couldn't exactly blame Birdie for that. Alessandra was, after all, plopped down on the floor as if she was about to enter mediation or something. The fact that her short stature decreased further as she sat made it a wonder that people managed to notice her at all.

"I know who you are, Birdie Applesale," Alessandra said without standing up, instead choosing to look up at her new roommate with what she hoped was a friendly gaze - though Alessandra's friendly gazes looked rather similar to her glares. "You're my room mate. I promise not to fight you. Unless you're into that sort of thing. Gecko-Roman style?" Alessandra's own eyes widened almost as soon as the words left her mouth, she had just, after all, invited her room mate to roll around on top of each other in the nude. "I mean, you know, let's get along?"

Alessandra's little faux pas was interrupted, thankfully, by the arrival of a second person, one who seemed familiar with Birdie. "Who are you?" Alessandra asked with a bit more intensity than was perhaps normal for a simple greeting. She came off as immediately hostile and just a tad protective, which was certainly odd. "How do you know Birdie? Do you wanna -"

Again she was interrupted, this time by the chiming tone of her phone. Looking puzzled for a moment before putting the pieces together, Alessandra took out her phone and read the message from her older half-brother. The message came with a somewhat maniacal laugh from Alessandra, though her 'maniacal laugh' was more of a 'cute giggle'.

BROTHER! THIS YEAR YOU'RE GETTIN' PUNCHED IN THE NOSE! ALSO PREPARE YOUR BACK BECAUSE I'M JUMPIN ON IT WHEN I SEE IT!

Alessandra had an odd relationship with her half-brother, at least it might have seemed that way from an outsider's point of view. Atticus was just about the only person that Alessandra knew who didn't laugh at her when she asked for a competition or a fight of some sort. Well, he DID often laugh, but it was more of a cocky sort of thing rather than a mocky sort of thing. The half-siblings seemed to have a genuine concern for the other, with Atticus being a bit of a protector and Alessandra seeing him as a figure worth emulating. They made quite the unusual duo, but conflict was in their blood and blood is thicker.

"Sorry, that was a dead man." Alessandra returned to Birdie and Birdie's visitor, still remaining planted on the ground. "Are you two gonna kiss? Actually, wait, you, Birdie's Boy, you can be the referee. BIRDIE!" Alessandra's voice jumped in volume as she jumped to her feet, "We have to decide who gets what bed! I'll wrestle ya for it! Whaddaya say?" Alessandra was already in the process of removing her dress, as was customary for those about to wrestle.
