It's probably also because it's not a mainline Final Fantasy game. Final Fantasy Tactics, regarded as one of the best games with the Final Fantasy name, only sold 1.2 million. Also the fact that peripherals were needed to get the most of it probably crippled a lot of its casual market appeal.
