Current You'd think after like 15 years I'd stop feeling like a fraud when writing posts but I still do which is both a statement on my self confidence and a compliment to how good my partners are as writers

Why would Pokemon start doing food now, that's crazy.
That's dangerously close to something from r/incels.
That's more a stinging indictment of the healslut community than anything else. Not like they need any more negative press.
@Fabricant451
I think its more likely that you are defensive that you learned about a game you likely didnt know existed and are doing everything to pivot away from that.

Valkyrie Profile series has like 4 games in it. If youre too lazy to check which one I'm referring to, then I dont know what to tell ya.

And Im not the one defending Famitsu, dont spin that.

You haven't seen me defensive, my dude. It's not laziness on my part, it's you incorrectly assuming that we're all JRPG hipsters like yourself and going all "gotcha" because you knowingly didn't put the actual title of the game in your post.

Why wouldn't I defend Famitsu, you brought them up as if them giving 40/40 to Nintendogs somehow invalidates them as reviewers.

Whether 10 people have played it or not is irrelevant. Its a tactical RPG with the prefix Valkyrie Profile, a very quick google search in good faith would confirm that, but I can see how trying to imply I think the first game is the wrong genre on a title specification is just that bit more juicy.

About as juicy as you getting defensive for you being too lazy to put the actual title of the game in your post.

You mean like Smash Bros? I think I'm getting deja vu here.

I mean, Smash Bros Brawl got a 40/40 and Melee didn't so objectively Brawl must be the best game in the series.

Yes I would think the highest selling media product of all time might be getting some attention outside of the country it was made in, crazy stuff.

Yeah, because the game was reviewed after it sold so well and not at all the more sensible point that Famitsu has only given two non-Japanese games 40/40 before so obviously the legacy matters super well. Red Dead Redemption, your favorite game, got 39 so maybe it just really is that good.
and, of course, enjoyable, iconic characters.

I mean, depending on who you ask (Motomu Toriyama) then Lighting is an iconic character. At least in Square Enix's eyes. But then this is the same company that thinks people think Terra is the good character from FF6 so hah.
I was mentioning a series, if we are talking about games with black protagonists and I say I'd rather play GTA you'd be a special kind of moron to think I'm talking about GTA 1. So on the subject of tactical RPGs if I mention Valkirie Profile then I'm probably taking about the game in the series that's a tactical RPG. High level detective work I know, but you'll get your head around it.

While you're reaching can you grab me a jar of peaches from the top shelf? Thanks. In the hypothetical scenario you concocted I wouldn't think you were talking about GTA 1 but I would ask if you meant San Andreas or 5. And you would absolutely clarify in that instance. Considering how like ten people have played, much less heard of, Covenant of the Plume compared to its relatively more well known predecessor titled 'Valkyrie Profile' it's not exactly a stretch to think you'd be talking about that one.

Famitsu also gave Nintendogs a 40/40. Clearly other games have a lot to learn from this masterpiece.

Yeah weird it's almost like the games are in different genres and are scored on different merits. What a concept.

I didn't say highest bidder, I said they put too much stock in presentation and legacy. You make the exact same argument when a Rockstar Game gets a 10/10 on the same big websites you are citing.

If a Rockstar game gets a 10/10 on the big websites my first thought isn't "BULLSHIT, ROCKSTAR BIAS" or some shit about legacy. I'd assume, and probably correctly, that the game is well made, crafted, and deserving of the score in the reviewer's eyes. Hey, fancy that, Famitsu gave GTA 5 a 40/40. Weird. Must be that Japanese legacy with regards to Rockstar games.

I'll need to borrow those tweasers after you're done picking nits with them.

Not my fault you mentioned two titles from the PSX but actually were talking about a PSX game and a totally different DS game. That's not a nitpick. That's you saying a totally different game title.

Ah yes the gold standard of big website reviews.

Yes all final fantasy games get consistently high game ratings. Including 10-2 which has a higher meta-critic score than 13.

Yeah because 10-2 is a good game.

Also remember that Tales Series that you don't like? Tales of Symphonia scores equal or better than 13 on damn near every site you listed.

Does it, though?

IGN: 8.5
1UP: B+ compared to an A
GameInformer: 8.75
Famitsu: 34 compared to 39

Gamespot and Eurogamer are the two that rate it higher at 8.8 and 9 respectively.

But thing is: My not liking the Tales of series doesn't mean I think they are objectively bad games yet somehow you think FF13 is when evidence points to the contrary.

I also think that 13-2 is an enjoyable game, and Famitsu loved it so much they gave it a perfect score.

They also gave 13 a 39/40 so it wasn't like it was a massive jump.

You know what else gets high marks on IGN and Gamespot? Assassins Creed games and FIFA. These sites put too much stock into 'presentation' and 'legacy' over any sort of serious critique and you know it.

Or, here's a thought, maybe the games are good? Game criticism and publications don't just kowtow to the highest bidder and the fact that people still think they do or that they don't count when they review a game highly in a franchise is bullshit, especially considering the point of reviews aren't the number at the end.
<Snipped quote by Fabricant451>

Valkirie Profile: Covenent Of The Plume is.....what then?

Not the game you mentioned, for starters
Its not enough for you to juat 'like' FF13, you have to do every charitable mental contortion to try and say its objectively a good game, which it just isnt.

Don't just take my word for it.
