Tiral took the Captain's prompt answer as a sign that he should stop acting like a fool and actually return to change into the necessary garb. Thankfully, it seemed as if his suggestion hadn't fallen on deaf ears (or, rather, it felt as if the Captain had already been aware of the face and that he might've accidentally belittled her for no good reason), and so he at least had a chance to change into something more... Suitable for combat. Of course, the mage had as little time to prepare as any other knight heading out on the expedition, so without any further frivolities he tucked his knife away under his armor, grabbed his sword, and left with the rest as they headed out once more.
However much he said about fighting living men, though, meant nothing against those of the undead. To say nothing of the Immortal Knight, of course, though the idea of necromancy was still something he frowned upon heavily.
"The dead should stay dead, though. Mortal men abusing the bodies of the deceased is something even I cannot tolerate..." the mage cursed inwardly as Marianne took out one of the guards exiting the crypt with a well-aimed arrow. Convenient.
"Well, that's all well and good, but we might want to at least drag the corpse out of the way. If it's a necromancer we're dealing with, another dead body on the pile would only end up being another liability... Am I wrong?" he asked, staring in contempt as the blood slowly continued to leak out from the man's neck. "The option to leave it there also exists, but... Well, being flanked from the rear might cause us to lose momentum in the near future."
@Keyblade87: The problem still remains the fact that you've listed multiple styles here. One or two woild be fine, but more seems kinda like overinflation to me. Please do change the surname, though.
@RumikoOhara: Most characters with a modicum of experience could probably do that sorta stuff anyhow, though...
The amount of metal in-setting is sizeable enough to equip armies if we're talking iron, but that's to be expected. Precious metals also exist (though obviously in smaller quantities) and are much more permeable to qi. Things like lead and mercury are also refined, but the quantity of those in comparison to precious metals is even smaller because of a lack of uses for them. Of course, the tech isn't there for those metals that are even less common, so... Yeah. Also no means of mass production for alloys.
What exists, though, is qi-infused metal from the bodies of metal-affinity creatures. Some beasts eat metal in their diet, which is processed and stored in their bodies. People hunt these beasts for the metal, which usually has some intrinsically good properties. It's also really hard to forge without the right types of qi and the know-how on how to process it, but the end result far outshines regular metals because of it. The older the beast is, the more metal and the higher quality it is. Their strength scales likewise, though.
tl:dr: It's plentiful enough that you can use it efficiently, but good luck replenishing mercury stores if you go that route.
And, uh... 1, 2, and 6, I think (though I'm fairly certain 1's from Dynasty Warriors). 4 and 5 are a bit skimpy for the setting, imho. 3... Well, nothing wrong with it, but the implications of the piercing aren't... Good. iono, your character, your ideas.
As for metal applications... Hm... Well, here are a few words of wisdom: the blade of a sword is not the only metal in this world. Take that as you will. If you're still having trouble, I'll ACTUALLY help instead of just giving a helpful nudge here and there.
Appearance: With short-cut and slightly messy black hair, what stands out about Mamoru is his rather... Unique eye color; after all, purple pupils aren't exactly what you'd call normal by any means. He stands at about 5'10" tall (~178cm) and is about average in terms of build: not too stocky and not too lean, though with enough muscle to wield his sword without breaking stance. He often wears rather plain brown tunic and pants, the latter of which is bound at his waist by a sash. Said sash also holds his sword in its sheath firmly at his side, so as to be easily accessible should the need arise.
Abilities: Mamoru is a semi-proficient swordsman, though he prefers to only fight with a sword rather than both a sword and a shield as his grandfather did or a spear like his father used. Having had no formal training, his style is unorthodox and improvised at times, having only watched more experienced swordfighters from a distance as they fought on their own. Mamoru is also capable of cloaking his blade with qi, either heating it up or cooling it down as he needs. Because he understands the importance of not making the weapon itself change temperature drastically (thanks to more than enough lectures from the local blacksmiths), this is the more preferred method as compared to heating the blade itself. Furthermore, said qi also reinforced the weapon, allowing it to be used for blocking, parrying, and deflecting incoming attacks.
Affinity: Fire/Water
Personality: Having lost his father at a young age, Mamoru has a deeply-ingrained ideal that he must try and carry on what his father could not. While creativity is not his strong suit, if pressured, he can be made to come up with something that... To be honest, may or may not always work out. While he understands the dangers of combat and the impact that fighting has on people, there is still a part of him that seeks that glory and heroism that is so often spoken of. At the same time, though, due to the aforementioned incident, Mamoru also has a drive to protect those close to him. That being said, though, he's not an idiot and knows when to let others protect him instead. A green swordsman with half a penchant for using qi can only do so much, after all...
History: Mamoru is the son of an old soldier who retired from the line of duty following the battle between the city-state of Xingfu and a powerful necromancer known only as Taoming. As one would expect from any conflict with the undead, the clash lasted for what felt like an eternity, even if the battle was over after a single night. By sheer luck, a group of Xingfu's top warriors were sent around to assassinate the necromancer before he could do any harm. Mamoru's father was not one of these men. Rather, he was one of the unlucky ones to be left to defend the city-state: and the first line of defense, no less. As fate would decree it, the man died during that one-night siege, leaving Mamoru and his mother behind. Mamoru's grandfather had long since retired to the town of Kizun, where the two moved to soon after so as not to be constantly reminded of the sacrifice made then. Mamoru has since grown up comparatively well off in the town, with his grandfather's guidance in using qi and watching the guardsmen from afar as he helped work odd jobs around the town. Most of his spare time is spent training and, occasionally, tagging along with passing adventurers to hunt boars or other game for the town to feast on.
Equipment: Other than the aforementioned clothes, Mamoru's weapon is also almost always at his side while he's out and about... Unless the situation calls for it not to be, of course. The weapon can be categorized in the broadest sense as a katana (albeit with a higher durability and rust resistance compared to those in ancient Japan), but he doesn't always treat it like one.
Other: The blacksmiths in Kizun hate him, if it wasn't already clear enough. Likes to eat seafood, but that's far too uncommon in the town to be eaten with any sort of frequency.
@Didos: Insanity and interacting with other RPers doesn't come along easily. You'd need to tone down the insanity. Fascination with talismans and gems and stuff isn't a problem, but having the resident loony follow everyone around is... Not necessarily a good idea.
@Keyblade87: Okay whoa. WhoawhoawhoawhoaWHOA. One does not simply master multiple forms of martial arts and how to use a weapon by age 19. That just doesn't fly here. Too much specialization in a single body is something I just can't overlook that easily, all right? Tone that aspect of things down, please. Also, I mean... If he's got martial arts down like that, is there really a need for a katana? Granted, if you were using a weapon, then rudimentary hand-to-hand combat might be helpful if you're disarmed... But that's kind of irrelevant right now.
Edit: Also, personal pet peeve: Moeru-ken is literally burn-sword in Japanese. THAT'S NOT A SURNAME. That's more like a chuuni nickname, and even then it's more of a title than anything. Like... 「燃える剣の」... And so on. Having taken Japanese for the last 4 years, this detail just... Blaaah.
@BurningDaisies: Well, looks good to me so far. Again, need the history for a concrete decision.
While we're chatting about forms and all that...

:D I did say straight Asian fusion, and that includes languages. So yeah. I mean, Kizun is a name derived from Japanese, and there will be some more stuff derived from Korean in the future. Also, it'll still be wuxia at heart! o7
Oh, right. One thing I forgot to point out: Concentrated qi can also result in effects mimicking the effects thereof. So, y'know, if a master swordsman infused enough of their... Say, aether qi, into their blade, they could effectively make a windblade or something. Like Fate/Stay Night Saber's Invisible Air.
(Aether takes the place of air and is more oriented towards healing than water; it's more offensive otherwise, which water is more multipurpose and tends towards a more defensive role. It's weird, yes, I know, but usually it's equated to heaven and... Stuff.)
