I guess my comfort zone is "eccentric side character."

v2 was taken aback by how easy that had been. He always hoped that people would behave in a logical and reasonable manner, but it was very rarely that people actually did. Of course, this could be ruined by something unforeseen and dramatic within the next millisecond, but that was true all the time. A gamma ray burst could wipe out the entire planet and everyone on it withing the next millisecond. Things just happened, that was fact. So he enjoyed the moment, while still trying to watch all the entrances at once.

"You live here?" He asked Mac and Cheese. "Perhaps the Princess would know of secrets in this building that you yourself are unaware of. Comparing the two versions would possibly be an enjoyable and enlightening activity."

Firebrand started to put away the other shaft of anti magic metal, looked over at Damien, then decided it probably wasn't necessary if he had helped handle Ozo's problem. He took his talisman back from the creature and slipped it back under his armor. "Something doesn't want us here, but it's being subtle about it. No monsters. No big flashy spells. No violence. Enough to get us to go away, but not enough to alert the factions to its existence. Ozo." He said, turning to him. "Whatever it is you did to get us here, we shouldn't try it again unless we're desperate. Its seen the trick we used to break in, and if it's hiding like this then just us getting back out could ruin whatever it's doing. We should assume it's watching, and need to make sure we don't show it all of our tricks before the time is right."

He beat his wings mightily and lifted off from the ground. "I'm going to get the lay of the land. It wasn't just a tower, there were tubes running out across this entire land. I'd rather not trod in one if I can help it." With that he flew up, higher into the sky, giving the area a good looking around. He tried to remember the position of the pipes he'd seen during the brief flash of what was really in this place, and searched for any indication that they were really there.

Gregor stops on the path, mystified as a girl runs out of the underbrush to his side a stares at him. Was she from the ship? She didn't look native, and the clothes were right, but he couldn't remember seeing her in the hold. Then again, he had been just at the edge of the convict section. Not far enough to see all his fellow prisoners or many of the "special acquisitions." The chain dragging behind her, though, was a dead giveaway. It was bigger than his.

He took off one of the water skins and threw it to her. "Hoi. We should keep moving, downriver. There are boats. We had a guide, I fell behind. Chop Chop!"

"You don't think it's Szandor, do ya?" Dinah asked. "We threw his ass into the drink durin' that storm. If he made it here that'd be a proper god damn miracle."
@supertinyking
I want to feed the whole god damn world to him.
Gregor looked up just in time to see some kind of beast fly right over him and disappear into the distance. It actually gave him pause. He stopped in the middle of the trail and looked curiously down at the water skins. The Serpent Riders carried a potent hallucinogenic soup called, appropriately, Serpent Venom that they drank before a dangerous hunt that they said allowed them to perceive the true shape of their prey. He shook the skin and looked around at the jungle. He didn't feel high or particularly perceptive of the spiritual side of things, but that just meant that whatever just jumped over his head was real enough that he could see it sober.

"Island mysteries," he said to nobody. "What can you do?" He kept walking. Slightly faster now.

Firebrand had already reached into the bag and pulled out one of the longer bits of sword when Ozo started screaming. His plan had been somewhat more crude and involved trying to stab someone in the head as gently as possible, so when the fish creature laid out his ability it was something of a relief. "Here, open up!" He said, tossing the forearm length blade toward Ozo's mouth. He reached for another as the first flew through the air, just in case it wasn't enough and he had to go with plan A.
v2 nodded, and spoke specifically to Lucy. "Please sit down."

He waited until she did so, then continued. "I imagine you have wondered at some point who the most important person in the world is. The answer is you. Please do not mistake this for gravitas or flattery. I do not engage in either. What I have just stated is objective fact, to the best of my understanding. Everything that I am about to say is."

Then he began to speak at length, bluntly and with no personal embellishment. Just the facts. The Empire, the Princesses, the Seekers, the Heartless, the Worlds, all that he understood about the nature and severity of the situation she now found herself in. He went into detail about the parts of the battle he had witnessed in France, specifically noting about he power displayed by the Seekers and their ability to appear from nowhere. He told her about the special accommodations the Empire had made for Adelle, her family, and for him personally so that he could be here. He told he about the briefing and of what even now was going on in Germany and Russia. If he did not say it, it was not something that he knew. There was no point in holding anything back when asking someone to take on so important a task.

"Never mind." Firebrand said, rapidly blinking his eyes to try and shake off the vision. "I think I just saw it." He looked around, trying to find some hint of that insane phantom tower he'd just witnessed. Some disturbance in the earth or disruption of the scarce flora where he'd seen those pipes snaking their way through the land. "Some sort of structure off in the distance. It was trying too..."

Firebrand trailed off, looking at his two companions. He backed up a few steps, trying to keep the both of them in field of vision. "It was trying to get inside my mind." he said slowly, tensing up. "You two feel anything like that?"
Gregor stopped, breathing out deeply as his eyes fluttered opened. He waited there behind the tree for a few minutes, waiting to hear some sort of rallying cry or shouted warning, but nothing reached his ears but the gentle rustle of bodied moving along the ground and the moaning of dying men. Soon even the moans stopped, and Gregor poked his head out from behind the tree and slowly stood up.

He picked his way among the bodies and the snakes, who parted before him instinctualy to let him through. There were more bodies than he expected, though some were already being slowly devoured by some of the larger constrictors. He hadn't expected them to attack so viciously. He must have let some of his anger seep through into them. "Sorry." He said to the bodies. "You couldn't have, well..."

Small riding boots thumped against the far door as the body swung slowly back and forth. He had been dressed for a countryside ride today, one of the many hard military activities of their father that Gregor had never taken too. Now the boys white coat was stained red with blood dripping down from where the cord around his neck had dug into his skin. His once bright face was pale blue. His hands and feet were bound. Gregor felt his notes slip out of his grasp, a sudden gust of wind carrying the loose papers deeper into the house.

He shook off the memory, placing a hand against his pale forehead. "You couldn't have know what you were doing when you did it." He stooped down to one of the men, reaching out for his waterskin. "If I had a proper fetish I could have been a little more precise," he said, ripping it from the mans belt. With his other hand he grabbed up one of the dead snakes, head cleanly severed. He uncorked the water skin and gripped the stump of the snakes neck over it, letting the blood trickle and drip down into the skin. He put his thumb over the hole and shook vigorously. "But that takes time to make. Too much time than I've had lately. And remember, you came at me." He tipped the skin to his mouth and drained the whole thing in one go. He lowered the skin feeling like a real man again. "So you can't complain about how this turned out!"

He stood suddenly and whirled at the rest of them. "That goes for all of you!"

The corpses offered him no reply.

He moved among them, taking what he needed. A few more water skins. A few pouchfulls of assorted fruits and dried meats some loving wife or mother had given them this morning, which were immediately consumed. A sharp stone knife and then, after thinking about it, a second sharp stone knife. A leather bag. A long black snake, to go in the leather bag along with the shackle. A proper belt to hang it all one.

Satisfied, he started making his way after the group at his own pace.

Firebrand picked himself up off the dirt, shuttering. He did not enjoy being wet at the best of times, and shook himself mightily before turning to Ozo and holding out his hand. "It's never had much effect on me, but I'd like it back all the same. I have no idea what it could do to you."

He looked around, wondering at the desolation of this place. "Damien, where is this thing we're searching for?"
