Linkle turned and took one last wistful look in the direction of her cuccos as they left town. "I don't know what to say. Thanks." she said to her companions. She had kind of expected Din to offer her help, but the gunman was something of a surprise. After all, he'd mostly come along because this was a job, right? It touched her that he was agreeing to help with a problem that was so personal to her. She already had the notion of an idea of how to get them back, but considering everything else that had come of her brilliant strategic thinking having a solid plan be was a good idea.

She had been so engrossed with the thought of her girls that she hadn't even noticed the cat eyed hunter had joined them until he spoke up, causing her to jump slightly. Apparently he'd found the quests to the south more agreeable than escorting the koopa king on his hunting mission. As he shared a little about himself and the monsters he thought they would be after she sort of got lost in his eyes. The red of them. She wondered what might be the best time to do something about that, especially considering how dangerous the Witcher made himself out to be. Super strength, super speed, super toughness, potions, bombs. He even had an entire silver sword, which in her opinion completely beat out the silver arrow the hero used to finish off Ganon in the oldest legends.

He also had good taste in crossbows, though his was slightly smaller. She whipped out her pair, spinning them in her hands before leveling them at the sky. "I run in close and shoot monsters with these. Sometimes twenty or thirty monsters at once, I just get into the middle of the group and spray. Or get in front and spray. Or I shoot bombs at them, and they blow up." She considered something for a moment, and her confidence seemed to falter as she lowered her bows. Lately that hasn't been working as well as it used too, but I think that's just because we've been fighting so many powerful commander types instead of groups of regular monsters. Good news is I learned how to aim these recently thanks to a helpful rabbit." She spun with the bows in hand and fired off three bolts from each at a nearby tree, where they formed a shaky but mostly straight line up the trunk. She did this just by pulling the triggers, without drawing the bow strings back or loading any bolts in compleat defiance of how a crossbow was supposed to function. She grinned, oblivious to this. "See. So I should be able to do something now even if my usual moves don't work so long as the monster isn't made of metal. Or a turtle."

She holstered the bows back into her boots crossed her arms, pensively. "I'm not so good at thinking, though. Most of my ideas have ended up blowing up in my face." she said, thinking back to the Bastion. "I'm better when someone else is telling me what to do, so if one of you guys has a battle plan shout it out and I'll follow it. I've got really good hearing."

After a while of thinking about the monsters Geralt had described Linkle piped up again. Ih he needed to know about monsters to fight them effectively there was no reason she couldn't share some of the information she had. "We have fish people back where me and Din come from too. They're called Zora, but I'd never talk about them like that Sheriff did. I've never heard of them being a danger to travelers or being 'sag-mouthed.' The only Zora I've ever met was beautiful." Then again, she was becoming more and more convinced by this mixed up world situation that that one Zora had been the Princess Ruto talked about in the legends and not just a Zora named after her so maybe the others were more ugly than that. "If they are Zora, this could just be a misunderstanding. Unless they're River Zora, those guys are really territorial and they look like exactly what he described except for the walking like men part. I've heard they have fish tails, so all they can do is pop out of the water and shoot magic at passing travelers. So if you're ever near the shore and see a whirlpool suddenly form in the water, look out because that's a River Zora about to get'cha."

It wasn't long before they were out in the wilds, and it wasn't long after that that the Courier waved down a few of those giant birds. The man had a way with birds that she was starting to get a little jealous of as she saw the wariness in the birds eyes regarding the rest of them. Not to be outdone she slowly extended a hand. "Tsk tsk tsk, c'mere girl. Coo coo." she wiggled her fingers enticingly as the bird approached, reaching up to scratch the feathers of its neck the same place her girls liked being scratched. The thing shuttered, and let out a delighted KWEH!. "That's a good girl. You're just a big old cucco, aren't you? Aren't you girl?" The chocobo stepped up to her, shoving its body into her face. Lickle stepped back with a cough, holding her nose with her free hand while continuing to rub it with the other. "A big old stinky cucco."

The courier, though, ignored the smell and hopped on up on the birds back. Linkle, not to outdone in a contest of bird handling, ignored the smell and pulled herself up onto its back. The creature went WARK, and stumbled uneasily back and forth before Linkle patted it on the side a few times to calm it down. After that it went surprisingly docile, as though it was used to this. "It's fine." she called to Din and Geralt. "I think she likes it."

A thought occurred as she looked at them. She glanced between the pair and the one remaining bird. Of course, the passenger to bird ratio wasn't the problem. After all, Din had a magic goat that she could ride. Would that really be for the best in this situation, though?

"Sorry Din," she said, turning back to look at them as the bird started to move off to follow the Courier. "This one's really eager to get moving, it looks like you're just going to have to share with Geralt." She was right in the middle of giving Din a conspiratorial eyebrow wiggle when the bird suddenly picked up speed, jerking her back and almost off before she re-settled herself amd held on a bit tighter. "Good luuuuck!" she called back to her.

She was grinning like an idiot as the bird bounced along, the wind flowing through her hair. She wondered it maybe she could breed cuccos that were this big, or even bigger. They were already strong enough to act as a parachute if you were falling from a high place, and if she were able to give them as helpful and gentle temperament as these birds had they might just be the best mounts in Hyrule. Chocobos must have been a dream pet back in whatever world they came from.

"Oh no!" she said, remembering the shopping list and burying her face in the chocobos neck feathers. She was never going to be able to kill one of these things now that she was friends with one.

If I don't post for a while it's because of the storm.
Yume slowly lowered her lance as it became apparent that her enemies were not going to be getting up any time soon, letting out a disappointed sigh. She hadn't even been given the opportunity to ignite the Dame of La Mancha. The opportunities for her to do battle at full strength had become so vanishingly few since the mechanics of her Inherent Engine skill had been figured out by the student body at large.

The boy in peril stepped down from his high ground, kindly returned her fallen helmet, and annoyingly reveled to her his true age she cocked her head curiously. "Truly?" She asked, plotting the helmet back on her head and standing on her tip toes to get a good look at his face as he walked past.

"Oh, my apologies." She said as he began hoisting the fallen knaves into his arms. "Has anyone ever told you that, at a glance, you have the intimidating countenance of a veteran yakuza?" She thought about that for a moment. "Which makes me question these blackguards logic in attacking you.

"But then," she said as she started trotting after him. "I'm the last person that could understand the fancies of their wicked hearts."

"Yamamoto Chie is the head of the decadent failure and destructive elements club." She explained, falling in step next to him. "She is an unpredictable person. I don't know where she spends lunch on any given day."

@Rabidporcupine
I was always intending to actually head in that direction instead of going to the the temple, either by seeing that that was under control somehow or by just getting lost, so I'm fine with it.
I actually need them to unlock her entire boots move set. They assist in those attacks.

I just gotta...you know...convince her to step on some of their little necks...

Not just a dangerous prospect, but something she don't want to do.

Linkle clapped her as Menat flourished her orb, a jolt of excitement racing up her spine as shaped began to form within the glowing thing the fortune teller had summoned. she leaned in eagerly, grinning wide, to get a close look at the future playing out in front of them. That grin, though, gradually faded into a concerned frown as the woman's grim predictions began to flow. A slender girl was engulfed in flame as Menat proclaimed that they'd understand their task. That through her for a loop, because Linkle had assumed they already knew what they had to be doing. Who was that girl, as well? Linkle couldn't make up the hazy figure, but if this was a prophecy for their group then there were only four options; her, Din, Poppi maybe, and the princess.

The next vision made her scratch nervously at the base of her rabbit ears, still tucked up under her hood. This one was easier. She was the only one in the group that had ears like that, but who was this person that was supposed to betray them. At first she thought it might be Ratchet, but no. That person was clearly a lady even through that cloak that obscured her form. Were their lady Ratchets? Should she be on the lookout? No, wait, the fortune said they'd get an advantage out of the betrayal so maybe she should just take one for the team. After all, Linkle already knew she couldn't be killed until after she'd saved Hyrule.

There was no ambiguity about the next ones subject, though. Bowser and his wizards silhouettes were unmistakable as they stood together, surrounded by forms mysterious and not so, and the proclamation that he would discover something long avoided about himself. The small figure, growing into something he wasn't supposed to be. The two figures, speaking swords drawn. "How could it come to this." The last three, on their own, we're less ominous. After all, no one was dying in them. Combined with the other two, though, cast a dark pall over them. She looked at Bowser for the first time with unease. She couldn't help but worry for their their self-proclaimed leader, couldn't shake the feeling that something awful might be in the stars for him.

Even if Menat tried to give them some words of encouragement about how fortune telling was a guide, even revealing herself to be an apprentice fortune teller under her own master, Linkle didn't doubt for a moment the accuracy of her predictions. There was no one in the party that took matters of fate and destiny more seriously than she did. You could say she'd precariously stacked her entire life on top of her belief in it. The words and images dangled over her like swords, ready to plunge in.

All in all, he first fortune telling hadn't been nearly as pleasant of an experience as she'd imagined. Still, it was good to know that a monster was creeping up behind you. So as the fortune teller hightailed it away from the group, which seemed like a pretty good idea all things considered, Linkle waved and called out, in as cheery a voice as she could muster. "Thanks Menat! Hope we see you again!"

Sighing, she turned to Din. "She's sweet, but a real downer." She shook her head, trying to play her worries off. "So, you wanna come hunt fish monsters with us?"

Bowser started hurrying them along so quickly after that that she almost missed Agoston as he came out and started making his way out of town. She didn't know where, but she assumed he'd found one of those quest to his liking. She returned his salute as he left, wondering whether she should tell him about what they'd just leaned. After all, Agoston was a swordsman. She decided against it though. There wasn't any need to worry him while he was on the job. Prophesies, in her experience, tended to unfold slowly. After all, she'd waited her entire life for hers to come true.

There was nothing really for her to do as they walked along except listen to the conversation between Bowser and his wizard. Unlike Bowser she listened intently to whatever the diminutive Koopa as talking about. She took special interest in the masters apprentices. His real ones, apparently, that didn't dress at all in the dark coats him and the Guildmaster wore. She made a mental note to keep an eye out for anyone that looked like that. The coat apparently defended you against darkness, too. That would be a great tool for fighting evil. If she got ahold of one she resolved to dye it green and wear it all the time.

But then they started talking about the predictions, both incredibly dismissively in her opinion. Both of them, though, seemed to start taking it a bit more seriously after BJ wondered where he was in their prophecy. While it was true he might have been off leading his own army or off in the crowd as his elders suggested Linkle decided that maybe she would keep a closer eye on the boy than before. It wasn't that much of a change, she'd been doing it since the little turtle had joined up with them.

It was when they brought up the other predictions that Linkle decided to pipe up. "I think that second one might have been me." she said, pulling off her hood and shaking her head to let the ears on her head flop around before replacing it. "But you guys don't have to worry about that. It's not like it's gonna kill me. I still haven't beaten Ganon."

The chefs restaurant was as cozy a place as the rest of the town with a big egg shaped purple thing hard at work. At first Linkle thought that it was the client, but soon the real chef appeared. She gave off more of a warriors vibe than a chef vibe, but she was so confident in what she was saying that Linkle couldn't doubt her. In fact, she had been wondering how you were supposed to butcher an animal in this world, what with everything dissolving as soon as you killed it. All you had to do was kill it in one precise strike. If she had been the Linkle of one day ago that would have been a problem, but now she was confident she could actually manage to put a bolt right between somethings eyes.

Kamek suggested that, instead of splitting up, the whole group head around in a big circle taking out all the quests they heard about along the way. That would definitely be safer of all of them, but would they have the time to get everything done? "Sorry wizard." Linkle said regretfully. "Missing people can't wait all day. Me and him were gonna head south anyway." she gestured at the courier before continuing confidently. "Tell you what, at the latest we'll meet you at the fish people. Maybe even before that. We'll have that wheat and..."

She looked back at the grocery list they'd been provided, and what was in the same area as that wheat.

"What is a chocobo?"

As they parted ways, each dedicated to doing a half circle of the quests around Lumbridge, Linkle just stared at the ground frowning as she trudged down the street. The big nice chickens. It just had to be those fluffy kweehing things that they'd spotted as they rolled in. "It'll be okay." she said to herself. "Just think of it like a regular monster and...make it painless."

Was it bad form for part of your solution to make up for killing a bird involved killing another bird? To Linkle that seemed as though it should some kind of bad luck. Especially as cute as those big birds were. They were almost like big versions of...

"Cucco Cucco."

"Yeah." she said despondently. "Almost like that." She continued on for a few more steps before lifting her head curiously. "Wait a minute." she said, looking around. Then she spotted them, right there. In the pen just next to the Guild Hall, a flock of black feathers and beady little red eyes pressed up against the paddock, staring at her and cuccoing in chourus. To anyone else this might be a scene right out of a horror story, right before the heroine screams and is devoured by a ravening horde hidden in the darkness, but Linkle let a wide smile sprawl its way across her face. "My girls! Ahhhhhhh!" she squealed, rushing over to the sid of the paddock where they piled up on top of one another to get a closer look at her.

"That is you, right?" she said to the mass, trying to pick out individuals. "Naburu? Mido?" she asked, like a worried mother fawning over her children. One in particular jumped up and managed to get some air time, landing on the post. She narrowed her eyes and scowled at it. "Ralph..."

The bird just looked back, mindlessly. Mindlessly menacingly.

Oh well, she wasn't about to let one bad egg spoil this reunion.

"Oh man, who found you guys?" she asked. She'd have to talk to them and straighten this whole thing out, let them know that they'd picked up something that belonged to her.

Not right now, though. She couldn't get distracted. They were safe, that was all that mattered. It's not like anyone was gonna try and eat them, some poor soul had already probably taught the rest of the town what a bad idea that was.

The endless noise was beginning to attract stares. She motioned with her hands for them to quiet down, picking up Ralph while he jittered and clucked and tossing him back into the pen. "I'll be back. I'll figure this out. You guys wait. here." She stared at them, nodding her head as they quieted and seemed to get the point. "Good girls. I'll be back for you." She lingered a few more moments, just to make sure they were calm, then trotted off toward the southern exit.

She wasn't sure they were all hers, but a few in their definitely were and it only took a few to get the whole flock riled up. She couldn't believe it. She'd been so wrapped up in Menat's predictions she must have missed the paddock the first time they'd passed it. It just went to show: if you focuses on the negatives, you missed out on the things that were important.

"Sorry." she said to 6 as they made their way out. "I know them. They're good friends."
"Tally ho!"

It was amazing how quickly it had happened. Daiji's plea for assistance was barely out of his mouth when a girl flew feet first into view as though she had been spring loaded, a bullet in a gun waiting for this moment to be fired. She planted the bottom of her sandals into the side of the still standing delinquents head, sending the boy sprawling onto the cafeteria floor.

She landed with a short "oof" and a few metal clanks. One of them was the long pole that she'd used to launch herself at the delinquent, clattering to the ground just inside her reach, but the other was her helmet. It had fallen off as she vaulted through the air and was left spinning on the floor behind her.

The fact that she'd been wearing the helmet wasn't the only thing odd about her. She had a cheaply made scrap metal shield strapped to her back, armor on her legs, and a raging fire in her eyes as she hopped up and placed herself between the delinquents and Daiji. All in all she looked like she was halfway to dying gloriously for her country as generic CGI footsoldier #314 in Hollywood's next fantasy epic.

"Hear me, oh dogs of the dark lord Chie." She said, kicking her pole back up into her hands and leveling it at the two. "I know not what vile deeds you had intended for this middle aged man, but on my honor he will not be your only foe. I am Fukano Yume, knight errant. Rise, and name thyselves!"

Yume didn't actually need to know their names. After all, she knew them. She knew every member of Yamamoto Chie's insidious cabal of ne'er do wells, by face and attitude if not name, and had battled many of them at some point or another as they levied their unjust taxes upon the poor of the student body. Though now it looked as though they had graduated to assaulting the elderly! It made her sick, and with the fire of the noontime sun burning in her breast she made ready to crush them.

As soon as they were back to their feet, of course. It wouldn't be proper to attack them as they were now.
