@gorgenmastBTW, what is the official name of the army/navy and the government here?
Eos Federation? Solarian League?
I don't see any mention of them other than the generalist mention as "humanity".

Good question. I've honestly not really decided, mainly because everything I thought of sounded a bit trite compared to space governments from other works in the space opera genre. I like Eos Federation, however, and may use that in my next posts.

As for the Navy, Pepperm1nts is correct: Eosian Naval Command.

It might be a bit before I can post my IC, because I am out of state and my laptop shit the bed. Typing a paragraph post on my phone using the temperamental Docs app or unoptimized site itself is not very pleasant or fast.

That's fine. Any rough ETA as for when you might get to a post?
I like your sheet, Chap. Sounds like Malachy might just offer to assist Vranas if their paths cross. Feel free to post whenever.
Intro took longer than I expected because I kept falling asleep before I could finish. Everyone feel free to post to their heart's content now.

Gorgenmast is making a proper intro post that he'll probably ask you to replace with yours. After that I imagine we can all get started with posting.

That would be ideal. We can just swap out the content of each other's posts.
"The dereliction of a Fleet Command vessel is to be regarded as an extremely urgent affair... Because even the smallest combat vessels are armed with extremely lethal weaponry and/or sensitive content, every effort must be undertaken to ensure that a combat vessel or the weaponry, technology, or informatics aboard such a vessel do not fall into the wrong hands. In the event of the capture or dereliction of a Fleet Command starship, the OpCode Designation "Wayward Trident" is to be utilized. Such designation provides for the mobilization of all available naval assets to mitigate and ultimately neutralize any potential or perceived risk."

- Excerpt from the Eosian Fleet Command Officer's Handbook, Volume 3

Yūrei drifted silently through the endless darkness of interstellar space. Light years from the glow of the nearest sun, her multifaceted, polygonal hull melted seamlessly with the void. Only the occasional flash of the strobe beacons scattered across her arrowhead-esque form or the glow of interior lighting of her bridge window gave any visible indication of her existence. Similarly, one would be hard pressed to detect her with all but the most sophisticated sensor arrays; as a standard Preamble-class stealth corvette, Yūrei's angular hull had been engineered to absorb and scatter radio pulses. In this remote and empty tract of space, Yūrei was nearly invisible - a ghost lurking in the emptiness.

Underneath the Yūrei's radio-dampening skin, Captain Hirnschall floated across the bridge, peering over the shoulders of the officers strapped into the seats of their terminals. He looked over the holoscreens of the crew as he drifted by, supervising their work as they diligently monitored the vessel's suite of ultra-sensitive sensors. He reached out to the backrest of one seat to halt his weightless flight across the bridge upon seeing something disagreeable on the screen of one of his greener crewmembers.

"Are you checking the KR array, ensign?" Hirnschall asked.

"Oh," the eyes of the technician widened upon hearing the captain's voice behind him. "N-no, sir. I'll do that now." The ensign's fingers flew across a holographic keypad suspended just beneath his palms and the screen refreshed with data points from a new sensor feed.

"Cycle through all of the K-series sensors at regular intervals." Hirnschall reminded. "I need eyes on every sensor feed every four minutes." With that, the corvette's captain shoved off the ensign's seat and launched himself back through the air.

Even if his crew carried out their duties flawlessly and didn't miss a single cycle, Hirnschall knew that it would almost certainly not amount to anything. In spite of keeping the artificial gravity off to minimize the ship's energy signature, going out to remote space to avoid the interference of stars, and all the other measures and precautions, the Yūrei's mission was almost impossible. Finding the Nemesis was like trying to find a needle in a haystack 500 light years across with the expectation that the needle is doing everything in its power to avoid being found.

Almost impossible, without question, but the possibility of getting a whiff of the Nemesis was still higher than one might initially expect. Humans had learned from the Vorqhul that the speed of light was not the end-all, be-all speed limit to the universe as they had believed for centuries. Humanity's alien foe had developed technologies capable of detecting exotic energies and particles that sent ripples through space and time that could be detected nigh-instantaneously. Using such techniques, an event that would take an observer 10 years to detect at the speed of light might be detected in minutes by observing such phantom energies. Thanks in large part to the treasure trove of Vorqhul technologies captured by Admiral Vranas from the Trojan, mankind had been able to crudely replicate the machines that allowed the Vorqhul to see and hear at superluminal speeds. Curiously enough, it might be the very technologies that Admiral Vranas recovered that amount to his undoing.

"I've got something!" A senior officer reported across the bridge. Captain Hirnschall immediately threw an arm out at an ensign's seat to halt his drift and directed his attention to the crewmember who had just spoken.

"Show me," the captain urgently commanded, "sync your feed with the main screen."

The officer did as commanded, and the main holoscreen at the front of the corvette's bridge refreshed and populated with a quivering graph display that showed rhythmic pulses that spiked up the graph's Y-axis at one second intervals.

"What sensor array is that coming off of?"

"Excuse me, sir," another officer interrupted, "but I'm picking up a similar sinusoid pulse on the K-alpha array. Signature checks out with what I'd expect from our target." Before long, three ensigns were reporting the same phenomenon occurring on their sensor readouts.

"I don't believe it," Hirnschall said under his breath. "That's a transponder; the transponder has been re-activated." The captain's disbelief was contagious. There was no celebration upon that their mission had been accomplished, as no one was yet satisfied that this was not some sort of error.

"Someone on the Nemesis made a colossal mistake, accidentally flipped its transponder back on?" An officer mused.

"Not a mistake," Hirnschall corrected as he shoved off from the bridge's floor to the captain's seat at the head of the bridge. "The Nemesis' crew is too well trained to make a blunder of that magnitude. I suspect we might be seeing a counter-mutiny - a crew member trying to call our attention to its location, something to that effect." Hirnschall threw himself into the captain's seat and pulled the restraints over his chest where the two buckles met with a satisfying metallic clack.

"Attempting to corroborate signal source and obtain a location," a navigations tech announced. "Standby."

On the bridge's primary holoscreen, a map comprised of white pinpricks manifested upon the screen - a star map generated by the Yūrei's navigation computers. The map zoomed in through nebulae and clouds of stars until it focused and enlarged on a single star system, which continued to expand until the onscreen map showed a pair of bright yellow stars pirouetting abount one another. The screen continued to zoom in, veering away from the binary star system and focusing on a single holographic planet orbiting the sister stars. The planet's holographic avatar spun slowly above the Yūrei's crew. Off the cloudy skin of the alien planet was a flashing blue dot that represented the source of the signals.

"What planet are we looking at?" Hirnschall demanded.

"One RV7S3-003," the navigations tech rattled off. "An unsurveyed terrestrial planet of binary system RV7S3... no records of surface survey. Last flyby was pre-war."

Suddenly, the black field of space of the holoscreen turned a threatening red hue, bathing the holograph of this uncharted alien world in a red light.

"Well no wonder," the navigations officer chimed in. "This star system is situated squarely in the middle of the Mutual Exclusion Zone."

"This is Admiral Vranas' doing." Captain Hirnschall muttered as he watched the star map zoom out to give a full view of the Mutual Exclusion Zone - shown on the map as a transparent red band that stretched across the stars and enveloped perhaps a dozen star systems. "He has turned on his transponder on purpose, to taunt us from the one place we cannot reach him."

"That system is only twelve light years from Vorqhul space," the navigations officer added. "I'm sure they're seeing the exact same thing we are. I'm certain I don't need to remind you that if the Vorqhul perceive this as a hostile move on our part-..."

"This could get ugly very fast." Hirnschall finished. "Naval Command needs to hear about this immediately. Zhou, what's the status is our displacement drive?"

"She's spooled and charged-up, sir!" an almond-eyed officer replied from across the bridge.

"Then let's pack it up, ladies and gentlemen," the Captain commanded as he entered the coordinates of the Eos System with the holographic keyboard floating beside his armrest. The starscape beyond the Yūrei's bridge window shifted as the corvette turned about to orient itself in the direction of mankind's homeworld. Captain Hirnschall and the rest of the crew were shoved against the back of their seats as the starship's thruster pods roared to life.

"All hands brace to jump."

With a second jolt, the starscape outside the bridge began to zoom outward as the Yūrei rocketed homeward at many times the speed of light.

Do you want me to post or wait for a starter post?

Please hold off until I get my starter post ready.

Every thread deserves at least one post.

thank u, lub u
Four WAP guns is excessive, especially coupled with stealth capabilities. A projectile capable of crossing a solar system in a minute flat already is a substantial advantage on its own. To request four with stealth capacity strikes me as too powerful for any one vessel.

Also, IC thread is up.

Admiral Iosif Vranas, hero of the Second Vorqhul War, was instrumental in establishing a lasting peace for mankind's maturing spacefaring civilization. But with the alien menace pacified, humanity's innate thirst for conflict turned inward. Dissatisfaction with Eos' absolute rule over the outlying colonies simmered over the decades following humanity's clash with the xenos. Colonial outrage boiled over at last on Nuevo Arauco, where the Eos-appointed governors were lynched and independence proclaimed. In a panic, the oligarchs on Eos mobilized the most powerful flagship in humanity's fleet: Nemesis, a warship built extensively with reverse-engineered Vorqhul technology. The Cincinnatus of the Second Vorqhul War was called to duty again. This time, Vranas was charged with turning the ultra-lethal weaponry of Nemesis on Nuevo Arauco in order to set an example to all dissident colonists.

Admiral Vranas and his elite crew left Eos to lay waste to the rebel forces of Nuevo Arauco. A fortnight passed before a spy vessel tasked with monitoring the rebel planet returned to Eos and reported nothing had happened at Nuevo Arauco. Eosian Naval Command quickly realized there could only be one possible explanation: their most capable commander has stolen the most powerful warship in the fleet. Worst of all, nobody has any idea what Vranas intends to do next.

The Eosian oligarchs immediately recognized the scope of the crisis, and their orders to Naval Command were clear: recover the Nemesis and neutralize Iosif Vranas at any cost. Naval Command has devoted every resource at its disposal to track down the Nemesis. Spy vessels have been scattered throughout the colonial systems, using their sophisticated sensor suites to sniff out any sign of their quarry while flotillas of warships lurk through the cosmos, ready for a duel with the rogue ship at any moment. But even with the exhaustive search being carried out by Naval Command, the oligarchs are not satisfied. Their contacts within the black markets have made it known to the captains of illegally-operated vessels that anyone who captures the Nemesis and kills Vranas is entitled to a gargantuan bounty and unconditional pardoning of any and all outstanding warrants.

With such tantalizing rewards, the allure of capturing the Nemesis is very great, great enough to lure you into the search for the errant warship. As the captain of either a naval or pirate starship, you have dedicated yourself and the resources at your disposal to hunting down Nemesis. You are not deterred by the cutting-edge weaponry of that ship nor the skill of its elite crew and its master. Neither are you dissuaded by the overwhelming odds of failure and death or the sheer competition, for Nemesis will not be your only adversary in this adventure. Your fellow captains will not likely wish to share the fortune and prestige of dispatching Iosif Vranas, but can be counted upon to confound your efforts at every turn. Your crew may share your enthusiasm for this endeavor or perhaps they might wish for a larger share of the bounty for themselves; count mutiny among the endless list of perils on your journey as well.

But no matter the odds, you are committed to this adventure. Even if you must travel across a hundred alien worlds or light years of empty space, you will vanquish the Nemesis or die in the attempt.

First of all, I'd like to pin down what exactly this Roleplay is. Nemesis is a large group (+5 players) nation roleplay. Despite officially being a nation roleplay, the faction size will be relatively small: a starship crew comprised of anywhere from 20-5,000 people and a handful of onboard vehicles such as dropships, bombers, ground vehicles, etc. The main plotline will serve as the glue that binds the players together, but players are encouraged to explore their own sub-plots in parallel with the main story.

Nemesis is an advanced literary roleplay, which means that the roleplay will be made up of posts that read in a coherent fashion with some measure of plot progression and few or no grammatical or spelling errors. If you are not used to advanced roleplays, don't run off! Advanced does not mean you are expected to write 50,000-word novels for every post. So long as the post effectively conveys your story, I consider it advanced. However many words you can accomplish that in is fine with me.

Now for something of a historical synopsis; Nemesis is set sometime in the fairly distant future (~300-500 years). Humans have become a space-faring species for some time and have established colonies on 20-40 planets of varying habitability. A century and a half ago, humanity made first contact with another sentient alien species: the Vorqhul. This species proved to be everything xenobiologists feared first contact with another sentient race might be. Two wars were fought with these aliens over the course of a century and a half, resulting in the destruction of many planets, including Earth. Before the Vorqhul could destroy mankind's second homeworld, a brilliant admiral named Iosif Vranas managed to incapacitate a stranded Vorqhul mothership. Admiral Vranas tasked his engineers with gutting the alien vessel of any non-essential mass, leaving a mostly-empty hull capable of housing an entire fleet of human starships. His engineers were also able to extrapolate the location of a Vorqhul planet from the mothership's distortion drive. Vranas assembled his fleet and had his captains tuck their ships within the belly of the mothership - which had been rechristened as the Trojan. Vranas and his fleet then warped to the Vorqhul planet - a heavily-populated fortress world as it turned out. A series of explosives was set off, allowing Vranas' fleet to burst forth from the Trojan and take the nearby Vorqhul ships by surprise. Avenging Earth and the colonies that the aliens had destroyed, Vranas' fleet launched a withering salvo of 100-megaton nuclear warheads upon the Vorqhul planet and its three moons. Satisfied with the absolute carnage inflicted upon the enemy world, Vranas and his fleet warped out of the system before before the immanent retaliatory attack.

Following Vranas' daring raid, Naval Command was able to contact the Vorqhul and notify the species that similar attacks could and would be carried out until peace could be brokered between the two races. The Vorqhul agreed, and a tenuous peace between man and alien was established. Neither species was to venture into or through the Mutual Exclusion Zone, a wide swath of space separating human and Vorqhul planets. To this day, the peace has held, and no combat has transpired between humans and Vorqhul.

Despite the peace, it is widely feared that the Vorqhul will disregard the peace agreement and once again invade human worlds. To this end, Naval Command has busied itself building a new generation of warships built with reverse-engineered technology recovered from the Trojan. Equipped with a Vorqhul-style directed-energy array and a forcefield system all powered by antihydrogen powerplants, these new ships are expected to reliably kill Vorqhul vessels. The backbone of this new Vorqhul-killing fleet is the Nemesis, a versatile ship powerful enough to take the brunt of alien salvos for smaller, weaker ships; or lay waste to solitary enemies with its powerful armament.

But now that the Nemesis and the only human commander ever to win a battle against the Vorqhul are gone, mankind's ability to fight against a Vorqhul attack is severely diminished.

Complete application sheets are strongly encouraged prior to posting in-character, but are not necessary. When you have enough material that a coherent picture of your captain and ship(s) have been developed, notify me that you would like your application sheet reviewed and I will determine your approval status. A sample application form has been provided below:

Vessel Name:
Vessel Type: (If applicable)
Vessel Class: (If applicable)
Armament loadout: (Brief outline of ship's weaponry)
Onboard vehicles: (Outline of any vehicles carried on the ship such as dropships, fighters, etc. if applicable. Any support ships assigned to your vessel should be listed here as well.)
Crew: (Number of total crew. Might also break down of officer/conscript ratio, describe any marine contingents aboard, list other important crew members, etc.)
Overview: (Description of the vessel, its combat role, brief summary of its history if it is a seasoned warship. Treat this like the ship's bio field.)

Captain:
M/F:
Age:
Rank: (If applicable)
Bio: (Brief history of your captain. The point is not to recount their life story, but to sow the seeds for your captain's motivations and aims by grounding them in a backstory.)

Remember that the keyword here is "brevity". Most of these details will be roleplayed out soon anyway. I'd guess that if you're needing 2k words or more to fill your application out, then you're probably doing it wrong.

So the issue I've been able to gather is that Willy and Pepper's ships fill an extremely similar niche. I don't think that anyone copied ideas from one another, but I think it makes more sense from a lore point of view and it's ideal in terms of gameplay if we didn't have two stealth ships with very powerful primary armaments. Therefore, I'm going to ask one of you to focus more on one aspect than another to generate some diversity. Willy, if I give you your WAP gun, would you tone down the stealth on the basis of the experimental WAP armament taking so much energy that it diminishes its ability to power a stealth drive?

Brb, working on the IC again.
Alcubierre drives would require singularity manipulation, gravity manipulation and spatial manipulation anyways.

As a curious mention Star Trek Warp Drives also have almost nothing in common with Alcubierre aside from both warping space.
Ironically enough ST warp drives would be easier to make than Alcubierre ones, if they were actually a scientific possibility.
Granted, Alcubierre drives are almost just as implausible aside from the math at least checking in. It violates a bunch of physical laws to our understanding.

Alcubierre Drives are as advanced as singularity technology goes because I don't want a bunch of overpowered, gamey technologies in this RP. Yes, I realize that Alcubierre Drives are probably impossible just like most of the other technologies. But for the purposes of storytelling and gameplay, Alcubierre Drives are the limit.

EDIT:
BTW, how large are the various ships here?
I can tone down a bunch of things if destroyer class ship at average smaller in this setting.

400-600 feet seems to be the average size for ships of that/similar type.
