Those are all very valid and legitimate points to make— a sandbox RP has to make hard decisions when it loses its rhythm. I know from experience of running a few of these type of games that you’re right in thinking something has to be done to get the gears turning again. Whilst I disagree with the point of me posting immediately in the RP and establishing my character through an introduction post to suddenly be made aware: “Oh, by the way, we’re refreshing and moving on.” – like, you can see my frustration there right?

I will respect whatever decision you make involving the fate of the RP, and I feel time skip or not I still have momentum with my first character but I do feel if I had been know this before posting I would’ve just waited for the ‘season 2’ thread or whatever.
but with a good majority of people unmotivated for it, I can guarantee nothing will happen.

As I said, " If people are going to be inactive, timeskipping or thread switching is not going to suddenly inspire them."
@Pair of Hearts, @Gowi's rp had someone who said, "mention me if you want me to post". Not even making the effort to check up on an RP they entered.

Yeah, that’s a bit… I’m still not happy about that.
I treat my 1x1’s fairly well, but sometimes it does take me time— I don’t think its unfair that I focus on my group RP’s and prioritize over them. Though sometimes I am complacent. But other times I may be online but I may not be in the mood to write and just want to do casual conversation or read RP’s I’m not involved in (yeah, I do that). Interesting discussion point.

How does everyone view their 1x1's?
I have songs for days. The hip-hop discussion kind of has shifted my mood to listening to this:

Not that this is the what are you listening to thread or anything.

Good for you. A lot of gamers do. In fact, gamers are among the most opinionated, self-researching people around, especially since let's playing is a thing. Some just find other people's opinions entertaining, and that's alright too.

And a lot of gamers only selectively research; I know plenty of folks in the gaming community or my former critical peers who only do as little as they have to— letting one source or two tell them how things are. Like with Gamegate (which I don’t want to talk about beyond this mention) where people didn’t look at it from more angles than a solitary one. People are complacent and I know plenty of people who read articles/watch videos for not only entertainment but information.
@Gowi
I mean, the best way revitalize it is to skip the current day since nothing is happening and no events are planned, which means it would be rather unenjoyable. So either way, there would a skip involved, otherwise the whole RP might die due to lack of activity.

There’s also the idea of just having people post or leaving them behind/ghosting them? If people are going to be inactive, timeskipping or thread switching is not going to suddenly inspire them. All it will do is leave inspired new players like myself disheartened from posting.

Grump over:

Replied to someone's search thread, gave a pitch based on their idea, was told said pitch is awesome, waited for them to start.

INCIDENT 1: Got told to start because *I* went to them with the idea and *they* have work to do, called out their attitude and bid farewell, person apologised, swept it under rug and we setup.

Rolled a few posts, realized something not discussed about npc relationships, confronted person if it's to force the pairing together quickly and iterated I'm no pushover, got told I talk to them like crap from incident 1 (?!?!).

Explained to person if you don't like something you bring it up and not throw surprises at someone that disrupts their npc THEN I bid farewell politely, other person goodbye'd and promptly made a public note somewhere about my apparent tyranism.

I can't even.

Now I don't trust people who compliment how my derived plots are anything appealing when I reply their searches. ಠ_ಠ In case another one accuses me of bullying them into accepting.

Without context, I cannot really give any valuable perspective on this – but I’ve had similar hurdles with 1x1’s. I once was inactive for a week or two and the person dropped the RP framing me as the villain with passive aggression and guilt trip tactics aimed towards me. The only thing I was guilty of was not communicating I was taking a little longer to write a follow-up post. Chance has it, that person blacklisted me from RP possibilities including them in the future. It was a kind of shit scenario.

Not at all your problem, but it seems that you being direct was misinterpreted as abrasiveness… for reasons unknown. Again I don’t know the context, but based on our brief conversations I cannot imagine you being tyrannical or mean-spirited.

There is probably plenty of ways to revitalize the IC without resorting to a new thread/time skip, right? I mean I just joined so the fact that I posted to get my character going and initially established to only have that post swept under the rug is kind of disheartening. I know it stays in continuity, but it feels like my post is pointless in being there now.
You forgot:

Fair enough, but I don’t think [the culture] is a bad thing either. I think the music of poverty, oppression, and all that has a lot in common with the punk movement at its peak in the 1980s— there was something about politically and socially minded music that is important and good to have; even if there are facets of that culture that are awful. God knows I can relate in a similar fashion to you in that we’ve probably seen our fair share of what poverty leads to and the facets of street culture that are largely negative. Interesting that you’ve come out of it apprehensive towards it, but I suppose that’s how it goes: you either tolerate/embrace it or dislike/reject it.

What do you mean about lyrical diversity though? Hip-hop has plenty of lyrical themes that go beyond social commentary about poverty, crime, and “hood culture”. There’s plenty of artists who lean towards the abstract, the dorky, the emotional, and so forth. It may not seem transparently as diverse as metal (what with themes about science, medieval history, fantastical concepts, politics, etc) but I think it is plenty diverse— it’s just that you have to look for it.
