Elemental Plane of Air

Ishaan's Palace: Grand Hall, Right Wing

Entering through the open door, Brutumukk and Jub find themselves in a labyrinth of bookshelves, and...floating books?! The books seem to be all floating above in the air and between the shelves. Some to be putting themselves away, while others are open in the air. A curious sight indeed!

The refreshing smell of new book pages being opened fills the air, along with the sound of a mocking voice, singing a poem,

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!
"

That voice definitely belonged to the ogre cats! They're somewhere around here...and they are taunting the pair and macaw.

There are three paths open to Brutrumukk and Jub: A path that leads straight to a fountain and another center of crossed paths, a path to the right, and a path to the left.

Bavlorna's Cottage: Study (B10)

Nothing of note happens as Rearden takes the potions. When she does sniff the Shrink potion, she does feel a little lightheaded, but it swiftly passes.

Zavakri meanwhile, looks to the cat carcass and picks it up. She puts the taxidermied cat into her pack and if anyone asks, she would answer him,

"I have a feeling that this cat might be important to have. That's why I'm bringing it with us, just in case,"

Rearden and Gabriel can see that her irises still show the strange golden clock faces.

Bavlorna's Cottage: Aviary (B11)

The door opens with ease. Looking inside, Aurora sees the next room's interior. Slivers of light enter through cracks in the shutters that cover three tall windows. The light reveals the shapes of several pedestals. On each one rests an object with a patchwork cloth draped over it. Wilting ferns in crumbling clay pots give the room its earthy smell. The floor is covered in a layer of straw.

The window straight ahead at the end of the room has a wooden balcony, and the word "Thither" scrawled above it.

Shoot. Sorry! I was pretty exhausted yesterday.

Here is the updated map accordingly.

Sure, all that sounds great to me! Heh, even I don't know how he'll react to the crush yet if he finds out, but it'll definitely be interesting to see! :D As for the connection, oh man, I know exactly what he'd think of Archmagus Lapin, and exposing frauds and liars like him is precisely what he wants to use his own stories and influence for! Capriccio might be more focused on the situation going on between Haven and Fanewick at the moment, but hearing what Lapin did to Pepper, the Archmagus's days of renown are numbered for sure.

I imagine he would've cheered her up with stories when they met, maybe one of a young mage woman who eventually makes her dreams come true and saves her family, mirroring Pepper's own situation to give her hope? Now all he has to do is make sure it happens for real. No biggie.

XD Love it! Pepper definitely would have cheered up from that story. She would be elated (probably to the point of crying) if she learned that Capriccio wants to/or is intent on making sure it happens for real.

Will finish the backstory tomorrow, but really, it's just a more written up version of the tl;dr that's there now, ha.

For the connection questions, I got these; anyone feel like any might fit their characters in particular, before I start bombarding people? :P

- What made you realize we were going to be such good friends?
- What do I do that annoys you? <- this is probably an easy pick for many
- Why do you grab my hand at night?

I know which one would fit Pepper in particular:

-Why do you grab my hand at night?
"Oh! Was I?! Sorry!

...It's just...I feel reassured, confident, and capable of anything with Capriccio around. He's such a kind person. I know I do not have such charisma, so...maybe my hand in his could give him the same feeling?

Er! Provided he's okay with it, of course!

A little world-building. One of you takes the map which is the setting section, marksw one location, uploads it, then the next person will do the same and so on until we've gone round the entire group. It can be a location listed in the top left corner, a location mentioned in any character or overall backstory, or something you just came up with. Since Haruki's going to be busy for the week, we'll have her go last.

Anyone up to going first?

I have returned to the computer and I was able to pick a place on the map.

The Crystal Bridge

This is the Capitol of Haven and the home of both Pepper's childhood home, University Nixerra for the purveyors of Arcana and Wizardry, and Archmagus Lapin's home and labs. Naturally, one might think that the Capitol would be named for the towering skull and spine of the dragon-like creature the city is centered around.

However, that is not the case: Instead it is named for the storied Crystal Bridge set in a specific spot in the city where the skull looks directly down on the person standing at the center of the bridge. There is a story behind both the bridge and the skull and spine, and it is of the Capitol's Founding.

The Capitol was founded by a powerful mage. This mage faced the giant draconic creature. The Crystal Bridge was created through a litany of defensive and healing magic, while the mage's offensive magics swept over the creature itself. The mage's paralysis magic has lingered the longest, causing the the skeleton of the creature to remain looming over the city as a testament to the mage's prowess and the capitol's origin.

Of course, the paralysis magic had to wear off at some point. To this day, various mages are keeping that paralysis magic going, recasting it as often as needed, in order to maintain the landmark.

I have a window of time I can post! XD I am taking it.

…Oh No He’s Hot!
I think Pepper is going to end up having a crush on Capriccio, if you’re okay with that.

For connections…maybe the both of them met around the end of Pepper’s apprenticeship?

He could have found Pepper crying in a corner, and upon asking her, heard about how Archmagus Lapin and she treated the patient only for the Serpent’s Sickness to get worse. After the both of them spoke with each other, Pepper and Capriccio parted ways, with Pepper in better spirits thanks to Capriccio. A little later in time, he could have heard about how all of the blame for the patient’s petrification fell onto Pepper, and Archmagus Lapin remained blameless.

What do you think?
I do want to give a quick heads up to everyone...

Starting tomorrow, I am most likely not going to be able to post at all for the coming week. If I can post, I will. But right now, I foresee that when I do have internet, I'm only going to be able to lurk, not post.

My posting rate should go back to normal the week after. I apologize for the inconvenience.

For today, I'll see if I can get a post up today.

@XxFellsingxX@Guardian Angel Haruki so which do you two think would be better off with the buff?

I think Flicker should have the buff.

@Guardian Angel Haruki, one of my class questions is "How did I save your life the first time we met?" I don't think it necessarily has to be on the first meeting, but what danger did Hasdrubal save Pepper from on their way to Alula, and how did that influence her perception of him?

Oooh! I have an idea for that question.

When Pepper first met Hasdrubal, she was cheerful and friendly to him. But the more she tried to speak with him during the journey to Alulua, the more she became hesitant and quieter. She got the sense that he didn't want to guard her, let alone be around her. A part of her even worried that he would just up and ditch her when he gets completely sick of her. This is especially heightened because of her so-called apprenticeship with Archmagus Lapin, and she was starting to believe the Archmagus's disparaging words and insults to her during the first part of the journey.

During the journey, Pepper and Hasdrubel encountered a large, dangerous carnivorous flower known as the Melancholia Flower, that lured prey with a sweet aroma that brought feelings of contentment and induced sleepiness. The flower would devour those who fell asleep in its petals. It was named the Melancholia Flower because those who managed to survive and get away from the flower experienced melancholy as a side effect while the aroma's effects wear off of the prey. Pepper got caught by that aroma, and her curiosity didn't help her.

She had followed the scent to the flower in a trance-like state, and she almost got devoured by the flower. But Hasdrubel was able to counter the flower's abilities, and either got Pepper away from the flower, or he killed it himself. Pepper isn't sure on the details on that matter.

After getting Pepper away from that flower, she did indeed feel the effects of the Melancholia set in. She ended up crying and voicing everything that the Archmagus said to her, and apologized to Hasdrubel. However Hasdrubel answered her, that conversation made her realize that he wasn't going to ditch her at the very least.

Her memories of the conversation and encounter are still somewhat fuzzy, due to the mind-altering effects of the Melancholia Flower's effects.
