Current The dot over a lowercase i and j has a name! It's called a tittle, which is a noun meaning "a tiny amount or part of something". Like the dot over an i or a j.

Bio

I am a veteran of the United States Army and the US Army National Guard. I spent three years on Active Duty serving in the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) at Ft. Carson, CO and 3rd Armor Division at Kirch Göns, West Germany. I spent 18 years in the Army National Guard with the 26th Infantry Division "Yankee" and 29th Infantry Division (Light), "The Blue and the Gray". I was deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina with the 29th ID (L) in 2001 - 2002. I have also been reading military history articles and books for over 48 years. I do prefer Military Role Plays over all other genres, primarily because I have a vast knowledge on the subject to include personal experiences. At the very least, my characters are always veterans.

I have been writing for pleasure for at least 34+ years, but only got into forum-based Role Playing about fourteen years ago. I do enjoy Nation Role Plays and get into minute detail when designing my military. The only reason I enjoy excruciating detail in my militaries is because for me, it is fun. My education and experience on this subject afford me the insight to see the depth of the structure. It is not just a General and a large pile of soldiers. If someone wants assistance in designing an army, navy, or air force, please send me a PM. I will help. Please specify what level (echelon) or depth you would like me to go. When I say echelon, I mean Army, Corps, Division, Brigade/Regiment, Battalion/Squadron, Company/Troop/Battery, Platoon, and Squad/Section.

When I was a student in High School, I used to play Dungeons & Dragons (Edition 1 & 2). Later editions came out after I quit that game. I do have an interest in Tolkien-esque fantasy-styled Role Plays as well. Time travel has always been a fun genre for me, but to do it well, one must have a firm grasp of historical facts. I love doing this form of role play, especially since I have a solid foundation on the past.

There are only a few fanfictions I will participate in; Star Wars and Star Trek are two of them. I want to do an exclusively Klingon RP one of these days. I also avoid Canon characters.

I have real-world martial arts experience. I would love to write an RP about hand-to-hand combat, no fantasy magic chit, just hands elbows, knees, and feet. Maybe the occasional head butt thrown in to mix things up. I trained in Krav Maga for six and a half years. I earned a first-degree black belt in Krav Maga on 3 June 2017.

Krav Maga is an Israeli martial art form that employs practical self-defense techniques drawing forms & techniques from Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Taekwando. It is very brutal, demanding, and aggressive. During the seven years I trained, I have bruised two ribs, sustained several muscle pulls, and various lacerations and bruises over my body. I have received a sprained ankle and a fractured wrist. Before the first black belt test, I received a bone bruise to my right shin; where my roundhouse kicks impact. Yet, I am stupid enough to continue training. [Regardless of the physical pain, it is more fun than any other physical activity I have engaged in. Fortunately, the bone bruise healed up prior to the third and final test. EDIT: I did leave the sport three years ago. :(]

In July, I completed my first novel, a science fiction set in the 24th century. It focuses on a Private Military Corporation solely employed by the earth government.

Send me a PM for a Role Play.

Hi Haley, I just found this thread. I know it is a month old but I rarely visit the lower forums. YEa, I got stuck in the "tell something about you" thread and haven't left. go figure.

What is your opinion on character sheets?

I believe character sheets should remain dynamic. They are written by the individual author and are in no way property of the thread moderator. Any moderator who asks you to PM the CS to them and then posts them as is, is doing a great injustice to the author. They must be posted by the author so they can update and make changes to the text as the character they are writing about develops. Hopefully, authors are writing character development to make this quality possible.

Faceclaims?

IMHO, I believe a written description of the character is more important than the image. I usually leave the posting of images as an option. If an author chooses to post an image, I prefer face claims with credit given to the real person over all other images. If an author cannot locate a real life image to use, then hand drawn images are acceptable if drawn by an artist that appear lifelike. Animations with exaggerated features are unacceptable (i.e.: Anime/Manga).

Color codes?

Each section of a CS should be clearly divided in some manner. Using a single color to denote the title of each section is a necessity. An author can delineate the sections by increasing the size of the title with an h3 tag or not. Or possibly by using an underscore.

What's the 'right amout' of images?

If more images are used in addition to the face claim, they should be placed inside hider tags so they do not clutter up the CS.

Freeform or GM provided code?

Honestly, I prefer Freeform, but given the responses above, I would be inclined to provide some guidance to the structure of the Character Sheet.

Things that should be be included/excluded?

The items to be included or excluded would be situationally dependent upon the nature, theme and universe of the RP. Some folks believe the CS can do without the Personality section. For me, that is a key component of the CS. There are so many different personality traits and some people have different personalities around specific characters while others are the same consistent personality regardless of present company.

I generally post the character's name and optional image at the top. They give the reader an identity to cling onto. The description comes next and should state the character's race, skin color, age, height, weight and body style. If the character is of a race other than human, a detailed description of differences in body style should be illustrated here. If the character is a rock hard mass of muscle of a heaping pile of flab or maybe just a typical soft Joe like most real people in the world. This information should be contained in the first paragraph.

The second paragraph should include a description of how the person dresses. If they wear a uniform or prefer specific individualistic tastes in dress. Maybe they wear something all the time; an article of jewelry or a ball cap.

The biography should be detailed to include location of birth, family life as a child and how specific events in their history created the person we see today. If they have scars, tattoos or other identifying features should all be explained in the biography/history. Any social status or special abilities should be explained in the biography/history. If this is done properly, it would contain more than five paragraphs; more if the character is older.

Once I've written all this, then I write the character's personality description. I've actually been thinking of their personality as I write the bio. Experiences in their biography will have an impact on the personality. They may be quite significant.

One of the last things I like to include are individual perceptions my character has of the other characters in the RP. When I read other author's Character sheets, I read them as though I am the character I just wrote. I try to imagine how they would perceive these other characters. Do they like them? Why? or Why not? What does the character like or dislike about the other characters? I describe these perceptions in this final section. I refer back to when in conversation with said character. It helps me determine what tones I use when addressing these characters in the Role Play.

I hope this helps. I know I get a bit detail oriented. It comes with age and experience.
I am currently NOT in any Role Plays on the RPG forum. I hate it that so often they die before they start. I have a lot of great ideas for RPs and would love to post them. Maybe I will. My problem is, no one else thinks my ideas are so great or once they get going, they die off shortly after.
It pisses me off when people say they don't support the military because the military supports the government. That isn't always true. The men and women fighting in your countries military are giving their life to protect your freedom. Please don't not support your troops just because you don't like the President, Prime Minister, etc.

Another reason to like Haley. Thank you, ma'am! With that said, if the tension between the right and left goes too far, it could erupt into a civil war and the military would divide. The individuals may not blindly follow their commanders. Regardless of their training, they are still Americans--independent thinkers.

Since we are on the topic, none of the ball sports ever made any sense to me while all of the combative sports did. I suppose to each's own in the end.

I regularly train and spar in combat sports. Still like watching football, regardless.
Interesting... I like the pro leagues part. but the problem is I don't watch football. never really gotten into it. which is why I stink in tennis betting as well. I don't watch professional tennis for fun. I think if you want to bet on tennis or football, one key factor to your success is you have to want to watch it for fun...….. ummm
Correct. I enjoy watching football and have been playing this game for 11 years. This is my 12th year.

I have no clue what's being said. what is fantasy football? is it like real football?

I play in a Fantasy Football league on Yahoo Sports. There are 12 teams in my league. My team is "Boston Eagles". I live in the Boston, MA area and am a fan of New England Patriots. The name Boston Eagles is a play on the Boston College Eagles football team.

Before the season started, we had a live draft where we take turns choosing a Quarterback, three Wide Receivers, two Running Backs, a Tight End, a Kicker, a Defense and six bench players of your choice. During the NFL season you manage your FF team to insure the best player is on the field that week. The last game of the week is played Monday night and the first game is played Thursday night. So, you have from Tuesday morning until Thursday to set your line up for the week. Although, I won that game last week, I could have had 24 more points than I did if I had played Blake Bortles over Ryan Tannehill. It is all based on real NFL players and their performance, but is done for fun, rather than money. There are money leagues, but I would never want to put that sort of pressure on me. I just enjoy doing it for fun.

My team is actually in good shape, but the one thing you can't count on is injured players. They will really upset your team, but you need to be prepared to manage those. I lost Jimmy Garoppolo when he went out from a torn ACL. Joe Mixon is currently on my bench with a knee injury. I'm hoping he will be back this week. He is currently listed as Questionable. But my RB slots are pretty strong with Mixon, Sony Michel and Saquon Barkley.

I can't believe I played Ryan Tannehill in Fantasy Football this week. Sure Miami has had a great start to the year and New England's performance has been dismal. Why the hell should I all of a sudden start doubting Bill Belichick? New England dominated that game as usual and Tannehill gave me 1.00 lousy FF point this week. Meanwhile, Blake Bortles, QB, JAX, sat on my bench and generated 25.32 FF point that serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever! Aargh!
All that aside, I'm actually winning without Bortles because Sony Michel, RB, NE had a stellar day as well as Chicago Bears Defense; Saquon Barkley, RB, NYG and Brandin Cooks, WR, LAR.
Look at me! Look at me! Look at me! I don't care if you look at me. Reciprocally speaking, I enjoy looking at people.
