I think the world would be a lot more peaceful if men just kissed other men more often.

Haley ★ 24 ★ Taurus ★ EST ★ Casual Level Group Writer

Welcome fellow writer. I go by many names, but you can call me Haley. I stick to causal level groups here on the forum. I have a soft spot for thunderstorms, dark humor, strong coffee, animals, pretty words, feminine rage, mythologies, and all things that go 'bump' in the night. I've lived in the same small southern Appalachian town my whole life, and aim to travel one day. I'm open to the occasional random conversation, but please do not message me asking to write one-on-one; it's simply not something I do these days.

I can't write full cursive.

My class of '18 was the first in the county to have Macbooks from grades 6-12. While we learned some cursive here and there, it was never really part of our curriculum. My elementary teacher tried teaching us in the third grade, but I remember some of the parents were pissed for literally no reason.

My handwriting is a mix between cursive and print. It's big, loopy, and some of my letters connect - but not all of them.
I'm a quiet person, and it's something that I am criticized for and asked about damn near constantly.

It's simple to understand, and to explain: If I don't think I have anything important to say, I'm going to keep my mouth shut.
There are three tattoos that I have wanted since the age of twelve, and I plan to get all three of them one day.

The first is a dragon piece that will take up pretty much the entirety of my right leg. I want a dragon with it's wings open on my thigh, and it's tail will wrap around my calf. The second tattoo that I want is a black and white piece of outer space, on the top of my left thigh. The third and final tattoo that I have always promised myself that I would get is the phases of the moon. Not sure where I would want that tattoo placed, but I do know that I want it on my body. xD

The flight from New York to Tanner was supposed to be a peaceful one - or at least Kolby hoped.

It didn’t take long for him to realize that he was wrong, however. Hayden had been giving him the silent treatment since early this morning; The flight was full of turbulence, screaming children, and stewardesses who obviously had better places to be. Making it through TSA was hard enough without Hayden trying to fight people - which she did in her own typical fashion.

Kolby didn’t know rather to scold her or buy her an engagement ring during her violent rages, but one thing he could say was that he always enjoyed the show.

Grabbing his bags from the retrieval station, Kolby turned to look at Hayden, and attempted to try and start their first real conversation all day.

”So… excited to meet everyone?”

Hayden had an interesting few days to say the least. After getting into a fight with about half of a coven gang and still coming out on top, Hayden was ontop of the world. She had however picked up a couple of scars on her face, which she was pretty sure was scaring any children that joined her on the plane. That in turn was enough to wind Hayden up with the constant screaming and crying. She knew Kolby wasn’t trying to push her over the edge, but she couldn’t help but have a little dig at him in order to make herself feel better.

”Oh, I can’t wait to meet your former friends and to spend some time getting to know them in your wonderful hometown” She retorted in a sarcastic, high pitched, good wife voice ”Nah, I am leaving everything I know to go to a shithole in the middle of nowhere on the otherside of the country, and I get to hang out with a bunch of preppy losers. 50 bucks says I knock out at least one of them in the first day?”

Walking towards the entrance of the airport now, Kolby tried his absolute best to keep his cool.

He knew that all in all, bringing Hayden to Tanner was a bad idea. She was from a different Coven, with different beliefs, and Kolby had no idea if his fellow witches and warlocks would accept her. She was too hot-headed, and too independent - similarly to Celeste, but –

’Oh fuck. Celeste.’

Kolby had been planning to tell Hayden about his manipulative, flirtatious, mind bending best female friend weeks ago - but it had never come up organically in conversations. Besides, why bring something up that’s only going to get him knocked down the stairs?

But then again, all of the reasons that Kolby thought the Coven wouldn’t accept Hayden were the exact reasons that he loved her. Besides, Carlisle had always been easily manipulated, and Hayden was a master at playing her cards just right. As long as she didn’t set the Coven household on fire, Kolby reckoned that everything would be alright.

The young man chose not to speak until he and Hayden were both outside, waiting on the Uber to arrive. Taking a seat on a nearby bench, Kolby laid his bags on the ground beside him.

”You know, you didn’t have to come,” he began, eyebrows knit together in frustration as he stared towards the runway. Looking at whoever he was talking to had always made it harder for Kolby to express his emotions, and sadly Hayden wasn’t any different in this case.

”I didn’t force you to get down on your hands and knees to take me back, and I didn’t force you to beg to get on this plane, either, but you did beg me, didn’t you, Hayden?” As he spoke, Kolby stood up, and tucked his hands into his pockets. ”I don’t like most of these people either, but I know that you know how to act when the situation calls for it, so just…. behave? You can murder some of the locals after we get breakfast if that helps, but for fucks sake, just be my Hayden when we meet our new friends, okay?”

Just when Hayden thought she had one on over Kolby, he always found a way to wriggle out of it and leave her looking like an idiot. She didn’t like to admit it, but she did have to beg. It wasn’t exactly her proudest moment, but it was what the situation called for. She did what she had to do to survive. While she would never openly tell Kobly what she really thought; she was grateful for what he did.

”Fine. I will behave. I won’t go around killing people. I will play fair with your fellow coven-mates” She smirked and brushed some of her hair out of her eyes. ”I will let them get at least one hit in first before I go all in on them.” Sitting back on the bench, Hayden was starting to feel the boredom set in.

”Well, We have a trip back to Tanner, So why don’t you give me the rundown of the new coven. Who do I need to look out for? Who to charm? Who to smack with a flame?”

Looking back towards the highway, Kolby pondered over which information to give his girlfriend. He hadn’t seen most of these people in years, so anything that he could tell Hayden would most likely be from memory. Sadly, he couldn’t just blow off her question. Hayden always seemed to know when things were not as they appeared. So with a heavy sigh, Kolby returned to his spot beside her on the bench. Checking his phone once more, he would see that their Uber was roughly ten minutes away.

”Well, first and foremost there’s Carlisle; He’s one of the kids from the three founding families. His mom wants him to take over the Coven, but he’s not confident enough and the rest of the council lacks faith in him as well. He’s a… quiet guy.” Taking a deep breath, Kolby relaxed further into the bench, putting his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket.

”There’s someone that I’m sort of excited for you to meet - my friend, Celeste.”
He took a moment to let that sentence sink in. It was a rare occasion when Kolby wanted to introduce Hayden to anyone - and this was the only woman that Kolby had ever mentioned from his past besides his mother. He wanted to make sure he wasn’t going to lose his head before he proceeded any further.

Hang on… excited? That is something. I don't think I have ever heard Kolby use the word excited when describing anyone." Hayden was clearly playing this up a bit. She knew that from the wording there was history. It was amazing how a single descriptor could give her sooo many details. The question was how far to push this. She could lay into him, but given that he had let her hitchhike this far, perhaps she shouldn't be as asshole as she normally was.

"Cool, I can't wait to meet her. So I am guessing I am going to have to convince this Carlisle to let me into the coven then?" Hayden decided to respect Kolby's boundaries and not push her luck. Not at least until she could see this Celeste for herself.

Shocked that Hayden had next to nothing to say, Kolby did his best to control his facial expressions and emotions - however he couldn’t help but raise his right eyebrow curiously as he glanced at her. Quickly looking away, Kolby took another second before responding.

”Yes and no,” he began. ”The Council will be the one to make that decision. So Carlisle’s mother, as well as Celeste’s, and then whoever the third council member is - I forget - they are the ones who will make that decision. Of course Carlisle’s opinion could help sway them - but then again, almost anyone that you meet today could sway their opinion.”

The next few moments lingered in an awkward silence. Only thankfully interrupted by the fact their Uber had finally arrived. Sitting up and then standing up, Hayden picked up her bags.

"So shall we go meet this crazy extended family of yours?”. With that she threw her bags in and let Kolby get in before her. Closing the door and buckling her belt, she looked at the airport one last time as it pulled away from view. one step closer to safety.

The trip was somewhat both long and short at the same time, more so when in comparison to the plane trip. Buildings and streets were replaced by trees and winding roads, as for a whole the whole of civilisation seemed to disappear, only to suddenly reappear as a small town. Tanner was certainly more upper-class than she was expecting, especially when she looked at Kolby. "So this is where you came from then? Doesn't suit you."

The ride into Tanner had put Kolby on the edge of his seat. Hayden wasn’t acting right at all. The situation in which Kolby had found himself was confusing. The familiarity of the town did nothing to calm his nerves. All but lost in a trance of stress, Hayden’s comment snapped Kolby out of his daze.

”Not many things do suit me, now do they?” he asked playfully.

Coming up on the Coven house, Kolby took a deep breath. Soon, the next chapter of his life would start. He had no idea what said chapter was, or why he had been called back to Tanner. All he did know was that whatever he was about to face through those doors would change his life forever.

Pulling up to their destination, Kolby tipped the driver before climbing out of the vehicle to grab his belongings.

”I know the town seems uptight, but the people here are really cool. I promise.” At this point, Kolby wasn’t sure if he was trying to reassure Hayden or himself more.

Hayden followed Kolby out of the car, making sure to grab her belongings. It seemed as if Kolby was filling up with nerves, and while she was the typical joker who liked to push buttons, even she knew how to read the room. She and Kobly may have dug into each other in the past, but she did owe him.

”Well, we will have to wait and see what happens. I am willing to give this place a shot if you are. But I will say, that if they make me wear some silly dress or uniform, then someone is getting punched” With that Hayden would lead Kobly upto the front door, taking the lead as she knew that Kolby wasn’t exactly eager to start walking himself to his fate.

With a small smirk on his face, Kolby grabbed the last of his belongings from the car before proceeding up the path to the Coven House. He noticed a few people standing outside, and others walking the halls. While he recognized a few faces, Kolby’s nerves were too wound tight to really give anyone the time of day. Leading Hayden towards the sound of voices, Kolby wound up flopping his bags down beside the entry of the dinning room, before turning to face the crowd with his arms opened wide.

”What have you heathens been up to?” he asked, arms falling to his side as the mischievous glimmer returned to his eyes.

Hayden followed up behind, placing her bags beside Kobly’s. It was nice seeing him talk, however she herself was a little too nervous, preferring to stand behind Kolby and instead observe the furniture of the place. It was old, but well maintained. This wasn’t the suburbs of NY anymore, and Hayden felt like a fish out of water. Still, having Kolby nearby calmed her nerves. She was calmed enough that she eventually popped her head out from behind Kolby and gave a casual wave.

”Sup?”

My best friend is a firey, yet kind southern woman from Mississippi.

Often times when we're hanging out and I make her laugh or leave her speechless, she'll often look at me and say: "Haley baby, I love you more than life itself," in that gorgeous accent of hers. I often replay her saying that it my head whenever I need a boost of serotonin.
I finally paid off my car yesterday.
Insomnia is kicking my ass again.

Guess it's time to find some rain sounds to listen to.

”Can you guys seriously just let me FUCKING sleep?” Lilith shrieked, her eyes flying open as she sat up in bed.

’Calm down, dearest. We’re only trying to help.’

’Stop your damn whining, you got work to do.’

’Lilly, I’m sorry, but we needed you. Tanner -’

The voices of all three of her spirit guides shouting over one another immediately gave Lilith a headache. With all of their thoughts overpowering her own, she couldn’t process anything, much less the fact that she was awake at 3:33 in the morning.

”Okay. Stop. Stop it. Stop it right now. I’m fucking exhausted. You guys know that. I remember begging you to just let me use tonight to recharge before I ever fell asleep! That was my intent for tonight - to rest. And all three of you completely disregarded my wishes -”

In the middle of her tangent, Lilith heard footsteps coming down the hall. The sound was quickly followed by a long, deep, familiar yawn as Lilith picked up on the feeling that someone was right outside her door.

”Everything okay in there, Mo-mo?” Her grandfather's deep, tired voice asked.

”I’m sorry! Just arguing with the voices in my head again, Pop,” Lilith responded jokingly.

John chuckled. ”Well, since we’re both up at the ass-crack of dawn, I’m gonna go start some breakfast. Come on down when you’re ready. You’ve got a big day ahead of you, baby.”

As John spoke, his voice became more and more soft. He was doing the best that he could to calm his granddaughter's nerves, but the knot in Lilith’s stomach only grew tighter.

”Be down in a bit,” she called out, already hearing John begin to walk away.

’Lili-’

”Gaea. Shush. Now. Leave me alone,” Lilith groaned, gathering all of her hair into a bun. ”I slept for an hour. You guys gave me visions that gave me nightmares. The animals need feeding. I have to be at the Coven House by 11 so that the rest of what I consider to be the world can decide my fate, and you guys can’t even let me get a shower first!!”

Climbing out of bed, Lilith’s headspace was finally quiet. She quickly pulled a ratty t-shirt and pair of jeans from her dresser, and headed towards the shower. Water had always helped to calm her nerves, and this morning was no different. Setting the water temperature to hellfire, Lilith climbed in the shower and let the warm water run over her sore muscles.

The young woman hadn’t been sleeping well as of late. In fact, she had rarely felt tired - until this morning. Though while feeling invincible to exhaustion, Lilith couldn’t ignore the general feeling of unease that had been coursing through her veins all week. She and her grandfather had practically no boundaries, and kept zero secrets from each other; When she noticed him acting strange, it didn’t take much to pry the information from him. John didn’t give many details, but what he was willing to share was just enough to put Lilith on edge - and then her guides had filled in all the blanks.

She was sure that her Fate was what had her so uptight, but still… there was an energy floating around town that just didn’t sit right with Lilith. It was dark, gloomy, and overall unsettling - just like the feeling in her nightmare. Standing there under the water, the scene from her dream replayed in her mind.

Growling. Paws running across the forest floor. The moon had been full, glimmering high in the night sky. There was a feeling of aggression, and fear. Lilith had woken abruptly as soon as she heard the howling.

Rinsing off and shutting off the water, Lilith stepped out of the shower, and quietly got dressed.

’Why did you guys show me that,’ she thought. ’Is there even any significance to it, or did Halloween come early?’

’We… we don’t know what it means.’

”What do you mean you don’t know,” she asked, reaching for her toothbrush. ”You guys know everything.”

As Lilith began to brush her teeth, a feeling of uneasy fear washed over her. Her stomach flipping, the dark haired girl gagged, dropping her toothbrush in the skin. Taking a moment to regain control, Lilith furiously rinsed off her tooth brush and quickly rid her mouth of the rest of the tooth paste.

”Ladies,” she began, doing her best to speak calmly. Looking up into the mirror, Lilith gripped the edge of the sink tightly as she stared into her own eyes, past her own reflection. ”Please use your words or something. All of these emotions are killing me.”
’We just don’t know, Lilly.’ Gaea’s voice was the first that Lilith heard. ’We usually have the answers to everything, but this time… something is going on in Tanner and someone or something is keeping us from seeing the intent.’

There was a long pause as Lilith got dressed for the day. She took her time, not in any hurry to face her grandfather quite yet. John had the tendency to be optimistic even if it meant that he had to fake it on days like these. Lilith couldn’t stand the facade.

As she tossed her hair up into a damp, messy bun, Lilith began to descend the stairs.

’We’re sorry, we’ll give you some time.’

Nodding her head in silence, Lilith walked through the living room and past the recliner where John was sitting watching the morning news. The smell of eggs, bacon, and coffee filled the room. The familiarity was the first true thing that had put the young woman at ease this morning. Promptly making her way to the kitchen, Lilith wasn’t surprised to see her favorite breakfast waiting for her on the stove - though the sentiment did warm her heart.

Picking up one of the pancakes from the pan, Lilith spread a layer of cheesy scrambled eggs over it before placing the bacon and rolling it up. Taking a bite, she walked back over to the living room and sat down on the couch with her legs crossed.

”Good morning!” John exclaimed as soon as she was settled. ”No reason to ignore the elephant in the room, Mo. I’m sure your guides have told you what’s going on, and that you’ve heard some rumors - you have to be at the Coven house today by eleven.”

”But I hate that place. It gives me the c—”

The old man held up a single finger, silencing his granddaughter's tangent.

”You can’t fight this. Rather you like it or not, or want to be stubborn you have got to be at that meeting today.

Crossing her arms and rolling her eyes, Lilith flopped back into the couch. Looking back to the TV screen, she noticed that it was a little after six in the morning now. Feeling her phone buzz in her back pocket, Lilith chose to ignore it for now. She had way too much going on this morning to be responding to calls and texts.

”I suppose you can’t give me a hint on what this meeting is for?” Lilith inquired.

”Sure can’t,” John responded immediately. ”Sorry to burst your bubble, but you have to figure this all out for yourself.”

Accepting her defeat with a great sigh, Lilith stood up from the couch and grabbed her Converse high tops from the shoe rack beside the front door. Putting them on and lacing them up, she grabbed her favorite denim jacket before heading out the door. She did all of this in silence, allowing whatever energy that was in the room to settle.

”I’m going to go run the perimeter, say hello to Osiris, and then I’ll be on my way.” Liltith did the best that she could to say this with hope in her voice, but she could tell that John saw right through her act.

Glancing up from the TV, her grandfather gave her a sympathetic and encouraging smile. ”That sounds like a great plan, sweetheart. Have a good day Mo-mo.”

Closing the door behind her, Lilith sat out on today's journey by first making her way across the front yard to the barn. Walking through the already open doors of the barn, Lilith was greeted by the sounds of happy horses. A smile quickly spreading across her face, the young woman gave her hellos to the ranch hands before making her way down the aisle to where Osiris’s stable was.

Osiris was a solid black stallion. A wild creature that begged to run free, Osiris was the son of John’s original racing horse. Neighing as Lilith came closer, Osiris threw himself up onto his back legs and shook his head wildly.

”Easy, boy, easy,” Lilith cooed, her hands held up out infront of her, palms facing upward.

’That weirdo Jamie put on my saddle this morning.’

She could hear Osiris’s disgust in her own thoughts, as she could with all other mammals. Jamie was one of the ranch hands, and he was the only person that Osiris refused to get along with. However Jamie seemed to be oblivious of the way the stallion acted towards him, and continued to force his presence onto the animal.

”I talked to him about it, just like I promised.” Now opening the stable gate, Lilith climbed onto Osiris’s back and gently adjusted herself into the right position on the saddle. ”I’ll try again later. Let’s go.”

Once outside of the barn, Lilith let Osiris run freely along the main gates of the property. Every morning, Lilith took Osiris out for a morning ride as the sun rose over the mountains. She loved to watch the colors come to life, and this morning the sky was pure red and orange, casting a colorful glow over all of the open land that was laid out before her.

Leaning forward, Lilith tucked her feet and grabbed onto the reins, urging Osiris to run faster. The dark stallion happily obliged, and picked up the speed as they now began to run alongside the river. Catching a quick glimpse of a crane in the water, Lilith smiled once again this morning. Moments like these were when she felt the most free - on the back of her horse, with the wind flowing through her hair.

Once the fence had been checked for any holes or other damage, Lilith returned Osiris to his stable. Removing his saddle, Lilith gave the horse a quick brushing and made sure that he had plenty of water and feed for the day before heading out on the rest of her adventure.

Entering her car Lilith unlocked her phone for the first time this day, attempting to connect her bluetooth to the radio. Seeing a notification for a text from Carlisle, Lilith opened it up to read a perfectly normal text from what seemed to be a perfectly normal Carlisle.

As soon as she began to respond, Lilith’s vision went white as she felt like her body was now floating in space.

When the light dimmed, Lilith was observing Carlisle pull a book off of one of the shelves in the Coven library. The book was old, dusty, and leather bound. Energy radiated from it in heavy waves, nearly knocking over whatever presence of Lilith there was. A wave of anger washed over the young woman, as she tried to scream at Carlisle to put the book back.

The two of them had just had a conversation not even two weeks prior where Carlisle had expressed interest in exploring the forbidden section of the Coven library. Lilith had begged him not to, and now she was having a vision of him doing the very thing she had asked him not to?!

Another blinding light covered Lilith’s vision before she came back to in the driver's seat of her car.

Gripping the steering wheel, Lilith cranked the vehicle before heading down the long winding road out of the ranch.

Her music playing did nothing to help calm her nerves as she replayed the scene of Carlisle over and over in her head, speeding towards the Coven house. If she beat everyone else there, she could attempt to talk to Carlisle without making a scene in front of the others. Pulling right up into the parking lot, Lilith quickly turned off her car, locked the doors, and headed inside the doors of the Coven house.

She had completely blown past two people at the entrance, not even having time to see if she even recognized them. In her rush of anger, Lilith ignored all feelings of unease that the Coven house normally gave her. She had one mission right now, and one mission only.

Following her senses, a wide eyed, crazy looking Lilith arrived where the others were gathered in the dining room. Keys still in one hand, cell phone in the other, and her hair absolutely everywhere - Lilith looked like a hurricane of a human being.

A quick scan of her surroundings, Lilith was mildly disappointed to find that she and Carlisle were not the only two people standing in the room.

Surrounded by familiar faces, Lilith shoved the need to connect the dots of who was who out of her mind until later.

Standing at the far end of the long, wooden dining room table, Lilith took a deep breath before speaking.

”Good morning, everyone,” she began, her tone of voice laced with the force of fake calmness, poise, and sweetness. ”Carlisle, may I speak with you outside for a moment.”

I am finally being considered for the Lead Server position by my new management team, and I no longer want said position.

I was pulled into the office and had a talk with the Assistant GM and I played the good girl part and nodded by head while he threw what I like to call 'professional word vomit' my way. He wanted to make sure that I was up for the challenge, and said that he wanted to let me know that me getting this position was going to upset a lot of people at the company because of my past there. (My past being that I have all three of my write ups and went over my GM's head last summer because he refused to fix restaurant equipment).

I'm not trying to sound cocky, nor arrogant, but without me being there for the last YEAR, there would not have been any FOH staff left.

At this point, getting the position that I have worked so hard for feels like a conselation prize, and I was told pretty much the only reason I am getting it is because I am the last man standing, and I'm the only one who knows what member is who anymore. It doesn't even have anything to do with my work ethic, and I feel so, so bad for what they are trying to do to me, again. The new management team needs someone to show to the Board to make them look good, and they want to erase all of my write ups for me to be a comeback rehabilitation story, and I refuse to give them the satisfaction.

I'll take the position, and I will take the money. But my two weeks notice is going in on Christmas Eve.
