We should probably get together in a group PM and/or google docs and plan and write this match. The sooner, the better.

I was also thinking I'd be involved in this one, since there will be a guest commentator, and my guy is the lead at the desk. If you don't mind anyway
‘Can you work 300 shows a year for six years non-stop?’

Of course, anything for this business.

‘Thanks, kid. I’ll owe you one.’

You’re welcome.

‘I know you’re working injured, and you need time off... but can you work this show anyway? I’ll owe you one. We can’t afford to have Drayden off the card.’

No problem, boss.

What a terrible decision. Drayden should have known that the end was near, and that working that beat up, that constantly, was a bad decision. That was why he’d pulled off of the live shows, aside from the rare show at MSG, or a special event overseas. For the most part, if it wasn’t on TV, he wasn’t there. And that was fine, they did good numbers anyway. Drayden was on his latest run as the champion when he’d worked the match a few nights before against Caiden Winters, a man Drayden had only wrestled once before then; but it’d been a barnburner, where Drayden had put him over clean, building a new star.

Almost two years later, they’d clashed again, at Judgment Day — four days ago, for the title. It’d been another 4.75 star match, where Drayden had to use a Burning Hammer after nearly four years since the last time he’d had to use it, to retire a legend. Drayden had gotten the pin, but unfortunately something had happened during the match:

Drayden’s knee had blown out, from the sheer weight of carrying the company over and over again, working endless shows, matches, special appearances… now he could barely walk, he needed his knee surgically repaired, and he had to go out to the fans and tell them that he was going away. To disappoint them. Torn ACL. Torn MCL. Torn medial meniscus.

Crutches. He was on crutches.

Drayden looked up from the title that he had laying on the floor by his feet, and over at his girlfriend, who was in their private dressing room with him. Yes, being him had perks. The private jet anywhere he wanted, a private bus, a private dressing room in every arena, on the better side of eight figures a year… he had earned this.

So had Barbie, but her job included a lot less hard… work. There was something hard involved.

Drayden let out a long sigh, before finally speaking and breaking the silence that had seemed eternal. “Maybe I should just work through the knee. I bet I can. I don’t want to surrender the title, what a fucking joke. He said, growling out the last word as he grabbed the Gatorade he’d been drinking at, and threw it against the wall, watching it explode; explode like his head was right now.

Barbie took a step back and frowned at the colorful liquid that now stained and dripped down the wall. Fiery tempers were something the star couple had in common. The curvy blonde looked to her boyfriend now, her face softened and the frown drifted away. “No, baby. You can’t do that,” she took a few strides towards him to close the distance between them and smirked, “Wouldn’t be much fun fo’ me if you were on crutches forever. Let’s leave the sexy cane shtick to Doctuh House.” Barbie ran her fingers through his hair and scratched gently at his scalp with her perfectly manicured nails.

“Six months. Six entire months.” That seemed like an eternity, and to Drayden and his fans, it might as well be. Did absence truly make the heart grow fonder? Maybe. This would be, to the man, the ultimate test of that. What was he even going to do with himself for six months? “I don’t suppose you want to take six months off with me?” Hey, maybe baby doll would want a vacation. “At least I can power through physical therapy. Maybe I can make six months into four.”

Six months was a long time, they were in agreement there. “I know, it’s a long time…” Barbara said softly and straddled herself over his lap as he sat, careful to avoid his knee. She stroked his cheeks and then put her arms around his neck before speaking again. “Maybe I could take a few weeks off with you… but not the whole six months. I gotta make sure they remember us.” Crowds were fickle and quick to forget about things that weren’t constantly shoved in their face with bright, flashing lights. Being visible was being relevant, and if there was one thing “Barbie Summers” was good at in the ring, it was getting people talking - albeit not always in the best ways. Barbie kissed the tip of Drayden’s nose and smiled warmly “Because we ain’t going anywhere, right?”

Of course they weren’t going anywhere, Drayden wanted nothing more than to go out there each and every night and show the fans who the best in the world really was. But, he probably wouldn’t be able to do that; he’d already cut his workload down to about half, and would probably cut it back more after this, but who knew? At least this girl was his. She had a… way to go about cheering him up that was almost always successful. “No. I’m gonna come back better than ever.” Hopefully to a huge crowd reaction. “I’m sure that Roddy has a plan to keep me on people’s mind. He hasn’t replaced me quite yet, so I’m not going anywhere anytime soon. That’ll come, but not now. I got a lot left in the tank.”

They were an AWE power couple - some would even argue that they were the current monarchy of professional wrestling: a true king, and his queen. Barbie snuggled close against against the reigning champion. “Oh yeah?” she said before her lips curled into a minxy grin. “How much have got left in your,” a dainty hand trailed down his chest and settled to stroke and then grip her man with unmistakable intent, “...tank?” She bit her lower lip and compressed a giggle through her nose.

At least everything still worked properly. It could be worse; he could be out of action, and out of action. But, he was just down one leg; he still had two. “Wouldn’t you like to know?” He said lightly, winking at his queen. At least this would do a little to lighten his mood, maybe put a smile on his face before he walked out to face the music. Making a bit of a face, Drayden added, “you’re gonna have to do all the work. I can barely walk.”

“It’ll be my pleasure.” The blonde purred against his neck, peppering the skin with nibbly kisses. Things would go more smoothly with her taking the lead, Tay gets so spun in a tizzy when she messes up her hair or makeup before going out in front of the crowd. She would make sure that she didn’t do that again, at least not today. Her crystalline blue eyes glanced at the clock on the dressing room wall - they had about ten minutes before anyone came a-knocking on the door. Plenty of time.

“You can do this, and you will do it. And I’ll be right there at the end of that walkway when it’s all over.” Barbie said comfortingly, her voice was still a little raspy and her Louisiana accent was thick. Her words always took on a more loose, southern lilt when she was speaking casually. Of course, she would walk her boyfriend out to the ring and then wait backstage for him while he did what he had to do. “We should get you dressed--” she said without even looking at the clock for confirmation. As if on cue, there was a knock at the dressing room door. Barbie went rigid and scrambled up from her knees quickly, snickering like a caught schoolgirl. Just a minute~ she called out toward the door before helping Drayden get decent again.

Sure, he was in a better mood now, but he wasn’t ready to do this. Drayden stood in the gorilla position, staring at the curtain… the crowd was ravenous to see the star, who had promised he would be opening the show with a huge announcement relating to his match from the weekend. Were he and Caiden going to have a rematch tonight? Something bigger than that? Nobody but Drayden knew, and that was where the hype came from!

Drayden looked at one of the monitors nearby, displaying the camera as it panned over the crowd, as energetic as always. The show’s themesong blared over the speakers, and the camera panned to the commentary desk, where Wade Palmer was bouncing his head to the heavy bass riff as it faded away, and the crowd in attendance were left to their devices, screaming and cheering as Wade spoke into the headset to crowd back home.

“Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages…. welcome to AWE Shock n’ Awe, the longest running weekly episodic television show in history. We are coming at you live from Chicago, Illinois, surrounded by thousands of the most passionate wrestling fans in the world, who are just as amped as you to hear what Drayden has to say after his legendary title defense against Caiden Winters at Judgement Day, a match which will be looked on in the years that follow as a classic one, ending when Drayden broke out a move that hasn’t seen the light of day since 2007, when Drayden used it to retire the legendary Blaze Pierson: a burning hammer.” Wade paused for a moment and smiled into the camera, winking his left eye at it. “Of course, I can confidently say that not a single one of you are more excited to hear what he has to say than me.”

Drayden’s music hit and the crowd naturally went nuts. Not only was this the MAN, this was their hometown hero. It was deafening and it didn’t die down, even as the music played and Drayden wasn’t there. He couldn’t bring himself to walk out quite yet, he was savoring the sweet, sweet crowd’s cheers one last time before it all went to shit.

Finally, he pushed his way past the curtain… and headed down to the ring, with a crutch underneath his left side, where his leg was injured. Drayden was limping, with the championship belt strapped around his waist. Man, this sucked. The crowd was just staring at him, the cheering ceased for a moment, before they all realized what was about to happen.

‘PLEASE DON’T GO’
‘PLEASE DON’T GO’

Believe me, I don’t want to go.

Drayden grumbled in his thoughts as he climbed up the stair and into the ring, hobbling over to the side of it and reaching out for a folding chair, which was handed to him. Drayden put the chair down in the center of the ring, then went back and reached out for a microphone. Then he sat down in the chair and let himself enjoy the atmosphere just a while longer.

‘PLEASE DON’T GO’
‘PLEASE DON’T GO’

Drayden finally pulled the microphone up to his lips. “Trust me, I don’t want to go anywhere, but all good things must come to an end. Unfortunately, it’s time for me to take a step back and get some rest. I was informed on Sunday, after my match with Caiden Winters, that I sustained a few… detrimental injuries, and that it was a miracle that my body lasted this long before giving out on me. I’m having surgery tomorrow, and then I’ll be out for… almost a year, they said.” Drayden paused for a second, looking down at the title belt that was now sitting in his lap: his legacy. As he said that he had to be gone, for that long, the crowd couldn’t help themselves: they booed.

“I know believe me, I know. Being gone that long is a joke. But I’ve been doing too much, too fast. I need to slow down and get some rest, unfortunately, or I can never wrestle again.” Drayden paused again, and the crowd cheered, before another… off the wall chant started.

’GET SOME REST’
‘GET SOME REST’

“Now you guys sound like my girlfriend.” Drayden said, and if the place had been deafening with cheers before, the same effect was happening now, though instead of cheers, it was loud and impassioned booing, drowning out almost anyone in the arena’s ability to think. If they loved Drayden, they hated Drayden’s slutty girlfriend who DIDN’T DESERVE IT even more. Barbie was a damn good heel. Drayden cracked a crooked smile, before speaking into the microphone. ”I should have expected that. Now, before I finish up here, I want to make sure that you guys know this isn’t good bye, this is just see you later.”

Drayden looked down at the title in his lap and rapped on it with his knuckles, “time to address this. I don’t know how many fans here in attendance, and how many at home know this but there’s a contractual obligation in all AWE contracts to defend a championship once every thirty days. Due to my injury, I won’t be able to do that. So… As of right now, I’m relinquishing the AWE World Championship.” He said, taking it off of his lap and slowly setting it down on the ground, “but I want whoever holds this next to know that you’re just keeping it warm for me. I’ll be back. And I’ll get my title back.”

’FUCK ‘EM UP, DRAYDEN, FUCK ‘EM UP’
‘FUCK ‘EM UP, DRAYDEN, FUCK ‘EM UP’

Segment 2: Roddy Quinn makes his way to the ring and declares that there will be a championship tournament for the AWE title, starting tonight
Segment 3: Barbie cuts a promo.
Commercial Break, as we come back commentators announce that Barbie will be joining them at the desk for the upcoming tag match

Commercial Break
Match 2: Chaos Clayton vs Razorblade (Clayton goes over)
Segment 5: Backstage interview with Chaos Clayton with Joy Ryder

And beneath the storyboard, a piece of paper is pinned with a thumb tack, detailing the upcoming tournament’s brackets, along with a note scrawled in Kevin’s unmistakeable handwriting: ‘If there is any confusion with the segment list, see me in my office. Thanks!’
Official Posting Rules for this roleplay:

  • Include which segment number you are posting at the top of your post, in the header; this will help us from having to do segments in order, allowing more posts, without waiting on writers who may be slower.
  • Segments are to be turned in within two weeks. If your segment is not being worked on or finished within those two weeks, we'll skip over it to keep the roleplay moving. THAT BEING SAID, you are free to come back and write it at a later date. This will be on a 3-strike process, miss your segment posting date 3 times, without previously telling us, and you're outta here.
  • This roleplay will be starting backstage during the first commercial break, after a few posts of backstage antics, I will post Roddy's promo announcing the championship tournament.
  • Don't take your character's placement on the card, position in the tournament, or booking to heart. In the OOC we're all friends. If your character gets upset IC, that's another thing entirely. I'll be doing my best to make sure everyone has a part of the show, especially during PPVs.
  • That being said, I'm going to try to keep the weekly shows at a similar number of segments/length as the opening show.
  • As far as matches go, work them out however you want, as long as the end result follows the booking written down.
  • Commentary will mostly be written by myself and the other GMs, please don't add your own. I will personally ensure that every match is commentated somehow, I haven't really gotten that far yet.

Turning his attention to the newcomer in the room, Nathaniel shifted his weight slightly and faced Hailey. The leader of the Coalition had to bite back the urge to give her a blatant and honest answer; they were doing poorly. They had failed, and they were continuing to fail. On what was perhaps a slippery slope before the attack on the mayor, the assassination had been the push to send them crashing down. If they were relatively accepted beforehand, they faced open vitriol now. He wanted to tell her the truth, he wanted to tell her that they were fucked, that everything was going to change, that the world probably had more of them in it, and that they would crop up, and that they wouldn’t all be good. That there could very well be more villains out there, possibly even stronger ones than the one they faced.

But Nathan couldn’t.

It wasn’t what he did. No matter what, he maintained a vigilant stance. No matter what, he kept up appearances. No matter what, he did everything in his power to make sure that they were looked upon in a good light. No matter what, the Sentinel could not falter, and he could not fail.

So, he wouldn’t tell her the truth.

Instead, Nathaniel smiled at her confidently, and gave her a nod before speaking. “Of course. Everything is alright, we’re doing our best to make progress on locating the man that fought back and beat us. Once we find him, and any other Enhanced, we’ll work out how to move forward.”

Austin stared blankly at Nathaniel. The guy was lying through his teeth. Just seconds ago, he was telling Austin exactly how he felt - if not through words, than through the bleak disappointment in his posture. How could he do that? Pretend like everything was fine when it was clearly not fine. White lies for the benefit of others was a social construct that flew far above Dr. Daley’s head.

The scruffy nerd turned his attention to Hailey now. He became suddenly aware of the fact that we was not well-suited for interaction with a female; Be it the uncombed-since-yesterday hair, the crumb-covered pajama pants, or the unmistakable coffee breath. At least it wasn’t Serenity. Now, there was a thought that sent him straight into sudden and uncontrolled discomfort, especially with Nathaniel being right there. Without saying a word, Austin turned around and went to the coffee table to gather up the files and articles that he was leafing through. His face felt hot, and he certainly wasn’t about to participate in the whole… charade going on with Nathan.

To anyone else, it wouldn't have been too hard to infer that Nathaniel was lying. To Hailey, she took his word at face value. He was the Coalition's leader, their foundation. He wouldn't lie to them, right? It was true that a week had passed and with every ticking minute their chances of finding this villain were slimming, but Nathaniel seemed confident, and he had never been overconfident before; only right. Hailey had to place her trust in the Sentinel, or else nothing would work.

A genuine smile momentarily flashed across her face as she nodded as if to affirm his words. It was sad that the young woman could claim she knew this man for two years. However, if there was one thing that she picked up on in his reply, it was that he had referred to the fiend as a man. She didn't think too hard on it, but it sounded wrong to her ears.

“Monster," the girl subconsciously commented.

Immediately, she felt heat flood her cheeks and she lowered her line of vision to the floor. She apologized. She was out of place. Brushing back a loose strand of black hair behind her ear, she continued to avoid eye contact with the others. “Um, if you need any help with finding or capturing them, I’d be more than willing to help," Hailey fumbled through her sentence, realizing halfway through that the offer didn't provide much considering she didn't provide much.

She slowly lifted her head to receive her response. From the corner of her eye, she noticed Austin shuffling away from the pair. It seemed like her comment costed her more than she anticipated.

Nathaniel gave her another smile and shrugged his shoulders. Maybe he should just tell her the truth, maybe that would be better for everyone… how much more upset could they be, anyway? “The truth is, Hailey…”

Austin scoffed a little. Find him? Capture him? Good luck with that. The doctor wasn’t usually one to quickly give up, or turn negative on a situation, not when there was hope; But these last few days… they felt hopeless. He was tired, and he felt useless, and just a touch irritable. “The truth is that he is off the radar. We’ll be finding him when he wants to be found, and no sooner. Monsters are...” He sighed away the unnecessary bite to his tone, shuffling the papers into a neat stack as he did so. “...particularly good at hiding in the dark.” He said in a much softer voice, meek, even.

“Monsters are evil. And this is a monster, you’re right. I’m done trying to make things seem better than they are, at least to my team. The fact of the matter is, at it stands now, we’re fucked. We can’t fight what we can’t see, and we can’t see him. We don’t even know if he’ll ever be back. Maybe he will, maybe he won’t. Remember what he said? He’s not doing this for any particular reason, he’s just evil. So if he comes back, what do we do? I don’t know. I can’t tell you what’s right in this situation, because I’ve never been faced with it before, but I can tell you what I’m going to do: I’m going to fight. Until I can’t fight anymore.” Nathan quickly took over for the doctor, who found himself traveling down a darker path than they needed to be right now. Of course he was right; there was little to no chance that they’d find the villain unless he wanted to be found, but that didn’t mean that they were giving up. “These people depend on us, as a unit, for their safety and their security. I won’t let them down, ever again. The fact that I faltered when I did makes me… less than what I want to be. Our city deserves the best, so we will be the best. It’s that simple.” Unlike Austin, who had seemed bitter and simply done with the situation, Nathaniel stayed true to himself and spoke as truthfully and as confidently as possible. Things were laid out in front of Hailey now, and what she did with the information was her own prerogative.

Nathaniel would move forward with the Coalition, or he would do so without them. He would not let the monster win.

Despite Nathaniel's more positive tone towards the end, Hailey couldn't help but feel discomfort. Of course she would stand with her family on what they decided to do, but the fact that someone could commit such a heinous act and simply get away with it left her feeling hollow. And it all came down to power. The only reason he wasn't being held responsible for his actions was because he was stronger than them. And now he was making everyone on edge and indirectly starting internal fights.

Hailey caught her bottom lip between her teeth as she listened to the two higher ups give their opinions on how they should approach the masked opponent. The atmosphere was heavy with tension and anxiety. And the small girl reacted so poorly under those conditions. Both men were wound up from the lack of information, both were blaming themselves, and she was just told that the ones she believed to be the most capable in finding this murderer didn't even have faith that they would. She had come up here to get her spirits up, or at least some good news.

Without meaning to, her jumbled psyche began to levitate the papers off of Austin's coffee table. Slightly panicking, because she was in the lab where there were much more dangerous and valuable items to be messed with, she solely focused her thought to having the sheets simply stop being suspended in the air. Unfortunately, that caused them to scatter and flutter to the floor... and all over the table.

Hailey sighed in exasperation, closing her eyes and slouching forward. Great.

Austin tried to catch the papers that started floating out of his hands to no avail. By the time he reached his hands out, the pages fluttered every which way and scattered about the lounge. For some reason, be it the stress, or the lack of sleep and excess of caffeine, that made Austin laugh. Not an intense laugh, but a light, yet noticeable chuckle. There he was, halfway to the mad scientist trope he had been pondering earlier.

He sobered up from the outburst and put on a more serious face. Serious, but less on edge than a few moments ago. Nathaniel was right, naturally. “Of course, we’ll fight to no end. We’re heroes, it’s our duty and our purpose to protect the people. I’m sorry I didn’t mean--” he floundered a bit, realizing that something had upset Hailey, and it was probably him. That’s why the papers went everywhere, no doubt. “...sorry.” he repeated timidly and started picking up the mess of papers and tossing them in the shred bin. They didn’t serve any purpose anymore, and the confidential information needed to be made illegible.

Nathaniel watched the pair, flustered and embarrassed alike, until Austin let out a laugh. The Sentinel slightly shook his head, and shifted the weight of his feet a bit. “No apologies. Apologizing doesn’t get anything done, all it does is create a vacuum of self blame and self-depreciation, neither of which we as a team need right now. Despite the factor of a missing fugitive, there are plenty of things that we need to take care of.” He looked from Austin, to Hailey, then smiled at the girl. Sure, the papers had flown everywhere, but it didn’t really matter. “You’re improving. I’m proud of you.” Genuine, no sarcasm; never any sarcasm.

After her brief moment of exasperation, Hailey quickly strode over in Austin's direction to assist him with gathering the strewn papers. "I'm sorry," she apologized wholeheartedly as she crouched down onto her knees and picked up the sheets that were on the floor. Despite her earlier offer of assistance, she was more than likely coming off as a burden. The brunette only lifted her head from searching for more loose articles at the sound of Austin's voice. Somewhere along their scouting they had ended up beside each other. However, instead of focusing on the vicinity, Hailey was tuned into the other's words. A childlike, warm smile made its way onto her face.

Good. They were all in agreement to keep fighting for their cause even though they had encountered a sizable obstacle. Ah, yes, there it was: that reassurance that she had come to them seeking. That sense of being united and slowly working the cogs of camaraderie.

Despite the comforting feeling that had overcame her, Hailey was still very quick to shake her head at Austin's apology. Placing a hand on his wrist, she offered him another smile before standing up. Looking behind and around her, the girl made sure she didn't miss any papers. However, when she turned back around to place the sheets in her hands on the table, she was met with the scene of Austin throwing them away. Technically, he was shredding them.

So they really did have nothing. Lightly exhaling, she pursed her lips and tried to not appear too disheartened as she handed the other the stack in her hand. It was fine. This was Austin. He was an expert in his field of study and she didn't lose a single ounce of faith in him from the incident. If Austin Daley could not find this villain with all his intelligence and passion, then no one could. She just had to accept the outcome. And she would.

As if able to read her mind (or maybe she was just that expressive with her emotions), Nathaniel reassured the both of them and managed to bring back the smile to Hailey's lips. This was why she followed him and put her belief in him. He was inspiring and wise. Nodding her head in understanding and affirmation, the smaller girl gave a meek –– albeit slightly embarrassed –– thanks of appreciation in regard to his encouraging compliment.

Yes; she would always fight with them.

And she would soon be given a chance.

Nathan felt a buzz on his wrist, and looked down at the watch he wore upon it, frowning slightly. “Something is wrong…” He said bluntly, scanning the alert that was suddenly apparent on his watch. “Engines are failing on a commercial jet, near the airport. Approximately fifteen minutes before it hits the ground. Come on, we should move now.” Without another word, Nathaniel was already on his way out of the building. How were they going to stop a plane from falling out of the sky? He didn’t even know. Maybe if he and Hailey could get at it together they could slow its fall enough to make sure it landed smoothly, but there were two problems with that: Hailey’s control over her powers was shaky at best, and she didn’t have a good way to get into the air high enough to use her powers on it anyway.

No, he’d have to grab the entire plane with his own powers, and then gently sit it down.

No, yeah okay. Totally easy. I got this.

Good vibes.
@The Kid LanternYes, yes it does.
@Silver Carrot@The Kid Lantern

These two are okay, just one thing KL; I changed the name of the TV title to the Intercontinental Title. I need to do some edits to fix the consistency of that, that's my fault.
@The Kid LanternI've got the titles assigned already; other than the tag titles, but we don't really have any established tag teams right this second.
Also, for what it's worth, my second character is up
@alexfangtalonJust make sure that you let me know what you want for your character, so I can make sure it gets booked properly. Either that, or just have your character approach the guys who write the storylines.
