She was running. That's all she knew in that moment. One moment, she was having a nice relaxing bath, the next she was running through the woods butt naked, wondering how the hell she got there. Had she been drugged? Was the rest of her family okay? Where was she running to? She stopped after a few minutes of running, her mind racing with what to do. She hadn't seen a single damn building out here. Her next thought went to who would do this? Why would they do this? And where the hell were they now.
She continued walking, her feet cut by the forest floor and raw by now. Every step was painful, every step was starting to feel like her last. She wasn't built for this, for survival out in the woods with nothing but her birthday suit to protect her. She was going to die out here. As the thought hit her, she stopped, dead in her tracks and plopped down onto her knees to cry, sobbing after a moment.
Her tears pulled the attention of a man, just within earshot, who.. at first thought she might be some ghost. But against his better nature, walked closer to investigate. He hadn't planned on veering off course today, his mother would have surely punished him but he couldn't help his curiosity. It wasn't every day that the prince of his fair kingdom got the chance to explore out on his own like this, nevermind the fact that he'd slipped out unawares...
He approached the sound, still fully convinced he was going to be attacked by some foul witch or ghost trying to coax him closer, when he spotted her. She was hunched over in the grass and... completely naked?! He blinked, not really fully believing his eyes. But he couldn't stop his feet from getting closer from, trying to help her.
"..Miss? Are you okay?"
A fearsome king and loyal lover, Cuprite stands tall as the Leader of the Wildshape. For all it's inhabitants that come from every walk of life, every corner of the world, he fights to protect and improve their lives. He is not a dragon to take his work and role lightly and expects as much from his future offspring.
His best friend growing up was a dragon called Ambrose, a very energetic Pearlcatcher dragon. It was mostly unknown to him the animosity between the two breeds, but it became very apparent when he told his parents about his new friend, only be told to stop spending time with him. That only made the young dragon want to see his friend more. He needed to know what was so bad about his breed that his parents would openly demand he stop seeing him. Ambrose also had no idea as to why the two breeds had such disdain for each other.
"Why would anyone hate a Pearlcatcher? I think your pearls are really cool." Cuprite told his friend one day, huffing a bit at the idea of being mean just because of his breed. "Why wouldn't I think they're cool?"
"I'm not sure, honestly. I don't get why so many of my kind don't like yours. I asked my aunt and she said it's jealousy." Ambrose returned, shoulders shrugging apathetically.
"Well... I'm not jealous of any of the pearlcatchers! I think it's stupid to think like that." Cuprite huffed indignantly.
"And I'm not jealous of you. I can't really even think of a reason why I would be, you know?" Ambrose returned. "But... what can we do about other people? Not much."
"Well, when I'm older, I'm going to make my own clan where things like that don't matter. Where everyone is treated equally. I can't change everyone's way of thinking, but if you and I can think like this, the surely others can!" Cuprite huffed, sure of himself as he puffed his chest out. Nevermind the fact that he had no idea what it would take to lead a clan himself.
"That sounds nice... but I wonder if it's possible..." Ambrose sighed.
"Of course it is! Anything is possible if you put your mind to it."
Despite Cuprite's reassurances, he wasn't able to convince his friend to join him when he left their clan. The only person willing to join him was his sister, Raira. She was more than willing to leave, more out of a desire to be free from her parents than anything. Ambrose not joining him, didn't deter the young dragon. As soon as he was old enough to really grow into his wings, he approached his father and let him know of his intentions. As expected, the older dragon was none to happy to hear this, but respected his son's wishes. His mother, however, was less than happy and made several attempts over the course of Cuprite's preparations to leave to stop him and his sister.
Unable to sway Cuprite or Raira to stay, the two left and set off to find a space for their clan. They settled on the branches of the Behemoth, who branches held the Gladebough Village. Cuprite and his sister met their respective mates here among the other clans and convinced them to join them. Since then, they have welcomed dragons into their growing community. Cuprite rules their clan as "King" with a firm hand and a gentle voice. He allows dragons to enter freely and leave freely.
Dragons do have to be approved by his now trusted Advisors, a pair of Wildclaw dragons that had more than proven their worth protecting Cuprite and his family in the underbrush below the Behemoth. Amore and Aconite became a part of the Advisory Council that helped approve the acceptance of new dragons into their clan by helping them find a job/role within the community. Amore takes a larger role in helping to train old and new adult dragons to defend themselves along with his mate, Aconite.
Raira and her husband, Bercilak also help in guiding the community on the Advisory Council. Raira spends her time with her husband answering the questions of the clan in her brother's place so that Cuprite may spend his days working with other clan's leaders to build diplomatic influence for their clan and create healthy relationships with their neighbors.
One day, while taking a stroll through the forest with his mate, Cuprite noticed a small tuft of bright green fur poking out from the bush. It wiggled a bit as he approached. He called out softly, "Hello?"
His mate, Eden, perked her head up, now seeing the odd looking hair as well. And just as soon as she took a step to get closer, it seemed to pop out at her. She was about to lift a paw to claw at it in defense, when Cuprite lifted a paw to stop her.
The bright green tuft of hair had gotten herself stuck in a mess of tangled sticks and bramble. Her big bright pinks looked up at him and they swirled with an intense arcane energy. All he could think of was that it must have been painful, having so much magical energy in such a small body. Leaning down, Cuprite, gave the small deer looking creature a cursory sniff before moving to help her out of the brambles.
She huffed and stomped her hooves in protest, even though she knew deep down he was only trying to help her. Once freed, however, she pranced around him in glee, bounding cheerfully.
"That feels better, hm?" He chuckled, watching her until it made him feel dizzy. She paused for a moment, those big pink eyes watching him before she took a few steps closer to him, tentatively. Taking it as an invitation, Cuprite, bent his head down to her, to be a bit more on her level. At this, she slowly pressed forward until their noses touched.
Pink sparks seemed to literally fly in the space between their snouts, and Cuprite felt something shoot down his spine. His heart felt warm and suddenly he could her a voice...
"Hello? Hello? Can you hear me?"
The voice was soft, gentle and sounded very much like a young hatchling might.
"Yes... I can hear you..."
"Oh! Oh! Joy! That brings me so much joy! I think I would have been in those brambles forever if you hadn't come along." She chuckled, seeming to grin to herself. Her blue fur seemed to shimmer even more in the light of the sun as she stepped into a patch of sunlight.
"And you are...?" He asked, chuckling again.
"Hm? Me? I.. To be honest, I'm not sure what I am! I just.. woke up and started wandering around. And then I got stuck.. and then I met you!"
"My love... Just who exactly are you talking to?" Eden asked, a worried expression turning on her face as she watched him.
"Hm? You can't hear her?" He asked, confused.
"Oh, only you can! I'm your spirideer now!" She started, blinking for a moment. "Oh... I guess that just came to me... weird... But anyway, I bonded to you! Well, our hearts did." She explained, making a quick spin as sparkles of magic floated around her.
"My... Spirideer?" Cuprite started, blinking a bit. He hadn't expected a new companion today, much less one that bonded to him... But, here he was.
Raira had always been a free spirit. From the moment she was born, she had been contrary to her parents. It wasn't as if she lived to disagree with them, but she certainly had a mind of her own and nothing anyone said could dissuade her from doing what she wanted to do. Stubborn to a fault. The last thing Raira ever wanted was to be in charge of an entire clan but despite that, when given the opportunity to leave her little Lightning Clan to explore the greater world with her brother, she took it. Though, she hadn't anticipated he'd settle them down so quickly...
She still hasn't really forgiven him for that and regularly leaves the community to explore on her own. If asked, she'd explain that there was something inside of her, something that vibrated with an intensity she couldn't explain and the only solution was to fly free and explore at her own pace.
Raira didn't have many friends growing up, but the one she had was the truest friend she'd ever had. Pache, a male Fae dragon who despite being hard for her to understand, had become her closest friend and confidant. She could tell him anything and he would always listen with eyes that seemed to always understand her feelings. She'd often sneak him into her nest to hang out with her, since he was small enough to hide in her wings. The only person who knew about Pache was her brother Cuprite, who despite not understanding how she could understand or communicate with Pache respected her relationship with him.
Raira remembers a humorous moment when Pache and Cuprite misunderstood each other.
"...What? Why are you doing that?" Cuprite asked, his eyes narrowing as he watched the small white Fae dragon flutter around him, bouncing up and down from the ground wildly, his head frills moving and undulating.
"Raira!" The smaller dragon called, his voice high-pitched but utterly monotone.
"What about her?" Cuprite asked again.
"Birth! Birth!" Pache cried out, still trilling frantically.
"What?!" He asked, blinking. "Are you trying to say Raira has laid eggs? That's not even possible! She's too young!" He started, now frantic. "Oh god, how would we explain this to mother? Should we tell her? Do we have to?" Cuprite mumbled to himself, mind churning.
Pache visibly deflated a bit before starting back up again. By the time Pache spoke again, Cuprite was already running to find Raira. "Birth day! Birth dayyyy!" He cried out after the larger dragon.
Cuprite had found Raira by that point and a rather humorous exchange took place in which her brother, face impossibly red, tried to ask her if she had laid any eggs recently. Which had, in fact, prompted a rather red face from her as well. They had a rather long conversation about trying to learn how to properly read Pache's frills but that certainly wasn't the only time Cuprite and Pache had misunderstood each other.
When Raira arrived at the Gladebough Village, she met an incredibly handsome and sweet Imperial Dragon whom she fell instantly in love with. She spent the first few months they were in the village, following him around, trying to impress him with both her physical prowess and intelligence. He didn't seem interested at all at first. He often scoffed silently and turned his nose up at her, walking away. But after months of trying and trying, Raira was a few steps away from giving up on him completely when he actually responded to her.
"Bercilak! I found a pretty stone while hunting near the river that I wanted to show you." Raira called out, grinning as she dropped the stone at his table, where he was reading a scroll on the history of fighting tactics used by Ice dragons. She half expected him to completely ignore her and was ready after waiting a moment to pick the stone back up and turn away.
She watched him look up from his scroll, however, head raising just slightly as he looked at the stone. "It is.. very pretty.." He mumbled, glancing her away for the briefest of moments before looking back at his book.
From then on, Raira never left Bercilak alone and it seemed as though the younger dragon didn't mind. The true turning point in their relationship, however, came on a hunt Bercilak had accompanied Raira, her brother, and her brother's mate, Eden. The four were prowling the groves below the village. Eden and Cuprite split off, Raira assumed to go have some alone time. The thought alone made her incredibly jealous and she stuck her tongue out after her brother before continuing on. As she walked, however, she heard the roar of a dire claw.
It swiped at her and she barely managed to dodge out of the way. It felt as if everything moved in slow motion. The leaves in the trees seemed to still as she watched Bercilak leap out in front of her, fighting with the bear. He was severely wounded, but the young dragon did manage to hold his ground against the bear long enough for it to tire of them and run off. Worried, Raira raced to his side.
"Bercy, are you okay? Oh my goodness... Oh no... What am I going to do.." She cried out, tears streaming down her face. In her mind, his wounds had to be fatal, she just knew it.
"Calm down, little one..." He replied, his voice soft and even toned. It sounded as if he wasn't even hurt. Which, Raira had to admit had bolstered her mood considerably. Tears still streamed down her face but now, she felt like he would be okay, that it would be okay.
"Let me go get Cuprite!" She called out, starting to get up. She was stopped by Bercilak, who had grabbed her leg and pulled her back.
"Stay... He'll come back to check on us and I don't want you to be alone out there..." He grumbled, voice deep and now tinged with obvious pain. Raira could feel her heart breaking for him but she stayed with him, doing what she could. Cuprite did eventually find them and rush to help his sister get Bercilak back to the village for healing.
Since that moment, a sort of unspoken bond formed between Raira and Bercilak and they became mates despite never asking one another. Because of this incident, Raira spends a lot of her time researching healing salves and healing magic so that she never has to feel that helpless again.

Willingness toward friends(1-5): 4 - Apprehension lurks behind a girl who just wants to be saved. She views most people as the enemy since she's felt betrayed by those who she loved the most dearly. She's half anxiety, half rage. Willingness toward romance(1-5): 5 - Nora has always dreamed of a prince charming sweeping her off of her feet and saving her. When she was younger, she would draw pictures of little knights saving little princesses. Nowadays, she day dreams about a man who could save her from herself, though she has little faith it could ever happen.
Main Ambition: Nora wants, more than anything, to lead a normal life, free from what she considers a curse and free from her powers. While she wants to uphold her families traditions, as she sees true witchbloods as inherently good, her experience with magic has left her less than inclined to ever use it.
Personality Summary: Nora is a relatively sweet girl. For all the trauma she's endured, she can have a very upbeat attitude from time to time. For the most part, however, she is quiet and observant. She is constantly and always looking for signs that she has offended someone or that they might try something with her. Nora is also quiet anxious and is very easily frightened.
Nora is more likely to look for ways to appease than to argue. When fights break out, she's ducking under a table to hide. A lifetime of trying has killed any desire she had to rebel. Still, there's a certain fire in her eyes and you can usually tell at a glance that deep down, she wants to unleash all sorts of hell upon those who would cross her.

What Kingdom are you from, and what town were you born in?: Varian, Irinaburg
Current occupation: Daughter to the Count Sven Pawonska
Any past occupations?: None
Relatives: Count Sven Pawonska Countess Kasia Pawonska Elena Pawonska Magnus Pawonska
Nora grew up in a loving, if not a little mysterious, home. Growing up, Nora was the picture of naivety and bliss. She would blab to anyone who would listen and loved to meet new people. If something bad happened, she often didn't even realize it was bad. One day, her mother forgot to check on her and she'd gotten lost in the forest. 12 hours later, she wandered back home just as happy as could be. Her mother, other the other hand...
When Nora was old enough to pick up a sword, she was trained by her father. Every day held some sort of combat training for her and her siblings. Nora never cared much for it, but she loved the chance to spend time with her father and expel some of that pent up energy she held inside. She grew to love fencing, swordplay, archery, and horseriding.
When Nora was old enough to understand, her father introduced her and her siblings to their ancestry and the artifact they would have to defend. Nora, at this point, was excited. In her mind, it was a way to prove her worth and she felt proud to have this duty. She studied diligently and practiced fervently, all as a means to prove that she was needed, she could be of use. The idea of that brought her immense satisfaction.
One year, however, while she was out with her siblings, they had spotted a group of children crying. One of them had dropped their teddy bear. Nora, wanting to dry their tears, cast a spell to project little twinkling lights to distract the children while her brother, Magnus, jumped in after the teddy bear. She kicked at her brother to dry the doll as best he would before they presented it back to the children. They were thrilled to bits at the return of their stuffed friend. The siblings all left feeling all the world like little heros.
It was a few days later, when their father Sven was explaining that Nora would be leaving for a time. Nora and Elena sobbed, trying to explain the situation while their father spoke. But there was no backing out of this. Nora would spend some time at the Asylum in Caesonia and receive treatment. When she returned, they would work on her decision making skills.
And so, Nora left, still sobbing uncontrollably as she watched her siblings fade from view as the carriage took her away. It was a rough ride and Nora continued crying for at least another hour before going silent altogether.
The first few days at the Asylum were... manageable. Nora refused to speak to anyone, always keeping her head down and her hands firmly clasped in her lap. It wasn't until she met the doctor that things truly started to go down hill.
To this day, Nora refuses to speak of what happened to her at the Asylum but it was very clear to any who knew her that she had changed. Where there had been spark of life before, now was fear and loathing. The only people she spoke candidly to were her siblings. They knew everything that had happened to her. She grew to hate her parents and the life she had been given. She grew to hate anyone that wasn't one of her two siblings. Anyone could be an enemy. Anyone.

History Did you grow up nurtured or neglected?: Depends on your definition. When you were upset, where was your sanctuary?: The forest, I used to pretend I was a Princess lost in the woods and that someone would come save me. No one ever did. What were you like in your teenage years?:I'm not sure anymore. How close are you to your parents?:I don't wish death on them, but the less I see them, the better. I do not trust them. Do you have any trauma that haunts you?:Yes. What advice would you give your younger self?:Run. Were you an obedient child or defiant?:Obedient. I wanted nothing more than to be of use to someone. I suppose I still do. What is your biggest regret?:What regret can a child have at the hands of their parents' actions? I have no regrets.
Romance Have you ever been in love? :Do storybook characters count? What is most important in a partner to you? Describe your dream partner.:The prince in my head is tall, strong and capable. How do you display affection? What is your love language?:I.. don't know. Have you had your first kiss? What was it like?:No. Do you believe in love at first sight? Why or why not?:Of course I do! Are you currently crushing on anyone?:...I've always had a crush on the stable boy that worked with our horses. He still works for us, but I don't think he can look at me the same way... Personality Describe your ideal Sunday morning:Sleeping the morning away, my sister curled up with me. What kind of person do you aspire to be?:I just want to be useful, helpful, kind, loved. What bad habits do you have?:If you asked Magnus, I spend too long in the bath. If you asked Elena, I'm a raging kleptomaniac who keeps stealing her clothes (which is true). But me? I'm flawless. When you are in a sour mood, do you like to be alone or with others?: Depends on the others. If I trust you, then I'd not mind being with you. If I don't know you, I'd much rather find a small dark space to hide in. Are you more likely to fight with your fists or your tongue?: ...neither? I'm more of a run away kind of girl.
The checks are meets it beats it, so it means either has the opportunity to make the check. Higher checks are usually more pivotal things, and I'd withhold that information. But by that logic yes people can fail checks when they attempt them. It would then be my role to write the failure and what that results in.
Good question! It'll be a behind the DM screen check with a stat threshold rather than rolling dice. While I'm a huge 5e, Pathfinder, Daggerheart, and my beloved MÖRK BORG fan I don't usually like using dice in play-by-post format because it slows down an already relatively slow pace. Shoutout to my homie Stone who is a former RPguild writer.
Yeah, I can definitely see that. Math rocks are fun in person, less so in play-by-post.
I think I understand, but just to confirm, in the example you just gave, are you saying that while both passed the check, the person with the higher score would be able to do decide how they want it to play out? I just want to make sure I'm understanding you correctly.
Hi! Tossing my interest into the ring as well. I think I've played enough tabletop rpgs to understand the stats, but when you say "Stat Check", how exactly will that work? Is that just us deciding how our character will perform on that check based on their stats? Very, very intrigued by the story!
My thoughts cannot move an inch without bumping into some piece of you.

Distinguishing features: A long scar running from his wrist down to the backside of his hand. A birthmark on his lower back, which he was told resembled a pinecone. Clothing Preferences: Lucian doesn't mind dressing up for occasions, unlike many young princes, but he does prefer clothes that afford him more mobility and comfort. His usual attire inside is casual and practical. He likes to wear dark colors; greys, blacks, and maroons. When outside, he dons on furs from hunts. His favorite by far is the wolf pelt he caught himself as a young boy. Oddly enough, he can always, without fail, be seen wearing a red thread around his right wrist.

Willingness toward friends(1-5): 4 - Lucian can be quite guarded, and doesn't often open up to others. While he is friendly and kind, his smile doesn't always reach very far. He is not opposed to keeping up appearances but rarely does he completely trust anyone. This does not equate, however, to a lack of desire for companionship from others. Lucian very much wants more friends he can trust. Willingness toward romance(1-5): 1 - Lucian has another in his heart. While she is no longer alive, he still struggles to this day with her absence. Romance is something he doesn't even consider as possible for him. What romance is left for him in this world without her?

Main Ambition: Make the world a safer place by removing those monsters who would wish it harm. Lucian's wife was lost in an incredibly traumatic way, and as such, he has made it his life's mission to hunt down and remove any magic users from the world. He could never feel truly safe enough to take another wife and bear children without doing so.
Personality Summary: Lucian is a man who is fueled only by his desire to make the world a better place for his loved ones. His warmth of character is muddled by fear, despair, and longing. His actions reflect a man who wishes without end that he could undo the past, replay those moments, and save the woman he loved. Where Lucian would have been a fun-loving Crown Prince, now stands a highly guarded young man who never fully trusts, constantly checking his back for anyone suspicious.
In earnest, Lucian is a kind man. When he opens up, he is jovial and caring, deeply observant and selfless. He would sooner give you the shirt from his back if it meant he could keep you safe. He is usually the first to jump into action if a woman, child, or elder is in danger. He has a strong sense of justice and tends to try and protect those he sees as weaker than himself. He is the epitome of the naive, idealistic Prince.

Other Connections: Sophia Thrane (deceased) - "My late wife..." Ambrose Thrane - "Brother to my late wife and the man I have disappointed the most. A good man." Mina Blackwood - "A childhood friend who became like a sister. She, like my other siblings, is someone I must protect with everything I have." Kilian Hale - "An efficient man, one whom I look up to. He is my mentor." Torvi Jorviksdottir - "An intriguing woman."
Young Lucian was a curious, playful young boy who loved to get into mischief, much like his other siblings. As one might expect, this mischief brought great stress to his mother, Rosa Camilia. With the kind of woman Rosa was, Lucian would often get lectured for his lack of self-preservation and thought. The young boy would leap before thinking, step before looking, and race his way into dangerous situations. It was enough to convince his mother she'd grow grey hairs before her 30s.
His father, on the other hand, loved encouraging his son's sense of adventure. It was Alixandre who helped to foster Lucian's interest in reading. He loved the stories of adventure and daring, saving princesses from towers and exploring strange worlds. Often, he could be seen outside with his brother and sisters, roping them into his play.
"I'm going to be the prince! And you, Sylvia will be the dragon." He'd call confidently as Sylvia smirked. She'd look over at Marnie with a glint in her eyes, obviously about to get up to mischief with her sister who would likely be playing the princess in this play. Askel, meanwhile, was more than happy to be the knight of the prince.
As Lucian grew into a man, he found himself well-read and well-rounded. He was trained in fencing and horse riding by his father while his mother encouraged painting as a hobby. She'd wanted to give him something that would allow him to express himself in a healthy way. Perhaps she also hoped it would help keep him soft and kind. He was also trained by his knight protector, Ambrose Thrane, who helped to temper some of Lucian's wilder tendencies.
When Lucian was 20, he asked his father's permission to marry his childhood friend, Sophia Thrane. She was not of high nobility and he knew the odds of receiving a yes were nigh impossible. His father, the kind man that he was, told him to wait. He'd have to discuss it with his mother. After many days, his mother finally came to him in his study. She had a stern look on his face, so he wasn't in high hopes.
"Mother, before you begin, you must know-"
A simple wave of her hand silenced him. She had discussed it at length with his father and she knew the lengths her son would go to for love. She had no desire to lose any of her children, though she asked that Lucian strongly reconsider. He told her he had no plans to reconsider, his tone stern and without room for compromise. In response, Rosa asked that Lucian prove his love. She told him to wait for 2 months while she prepared a large banquet.
Rosa invited as many women with the same build, hair color, and eye color as Lucian's first love as she could. She gave them all masks and asked them to remain as silent as they could through the night. Lucian's task was to find his true love among the rabble. If he could do that, his mother would approve. While she did that, Lucian went to work on next convincing her brother, Ambrose. While her brother had been hesitant, first using Lucian's title to dissuade him. But when he learned that Lucian had already begun to convince his parents, Ambrose reluctantly agreed on the condition that Lucian protect her with his life. Lucian agreed and the two swore on it.
Lucian found Sophia within 10 minutes of the party starting. He took Sophia to his mother, tears streaming down Sophia's face. Rosa smiled warmly and took both Lucian and Sophia's hand in hers. "Good man." was all she spoke. They were married 6 months later.
---
Several years later, near Sophia's 23rd birthday, Lucian was making preparations, along with his mother, to hold a banquet for her birthday. They'd found out several months ago that Sophia was expecting. After a few years of trying, the two nearly broke down into tears when the doctor confirmed it for them. That morning had been oddly cold, so he was heading out to check on her, a coat for her in his arms. His wife had an intense love for gardening and spend most of her time outside in the gardens. The rose bushes she'd planted a year or so prior had been her pride and joy.
Something kept nagging at the back of Lucian's neck, like someone was watching him. It was a growing, nagging feeling in the gut of his stomach. It grew more intense with each passing moment as he wandered through the garden, calling for his wife.
"Are you looking for me, Lucie?"
The tension that had wound him up seemed to expel all at once upon hearing her voice from the distance. He raced over, smiling as he spotted her. She had a look of confusion on her face. "What's wrong, my love?" She continued.
Suddenly, a black figure appeared behind Sophia and all of the tension Lucian had been feeling came rushing back like a vice grip. His breath caught in his throat. Sophi- He'd barely squawked out her name before it happened. It was like the world slowed down. His feet felt heavy like he couldn't move them, all he could do was watch in abject horror as he watched his beloved wife as she was ripped apart.
He watched as her bones snapped, her skin sliced open, as something unseen dragged her now mangled body through the air. He reached, both hands swiping as if in slow motion. They made purchase with nothing as he stumbled forward. Sophia!! He screamed, stumbling and falling as he tried to race after her.
To say the world went dark would have been an understatement. Lucian had lost his entire world that morning. Each morning after, he would wake and turn, expecting to see his wife, expecting her to smile at him and ask if he'd had a nightmare. But each morning, his bed was cold and empty.
A few months after the attack, he ordered his servants to change his bed for something smaller. The king-sized bed they slept in felt like a frigid ocean. His parents didn't know what to do or how to comfort him. His mother was incensed, but had no recourse to calm her own anger. Anything she thought of doing felt like a lost cause. They had no leads. Ambrose refused to even acknowledge the young prince's existence. His siblings floundered as they tried to find ways to help him. There was even one night when Marnie came to see him and he yelled at her to leave.
Lucian shut himself in his room most days, ordered drinks and medicine from the servants and doctors. Sleepless nights became commonplace for him, to the point of insomnia. He took whatever pills they were willing to give him that might help him sleep. He drank until it all went numb. There were times he could be seen roaming the halls, a drunken mess of a man as he called out for Sophia.
It wasn't until one night, when Lucian had finally fallen into a somewhat restful sleep, that he finally woke up. He dreamt of Sophia. She stood, just at the edge of his bed, positively glowing in angelic light. Her eyes were filled with a sorrow that Lucian knew all too well.
After that dream, Lucian woke as if a renewed man. He was dressing each morning and ate, though still not very much. He trained with his sword and eventually sought out the help of the Vanguard. Not only would they help him defend his kingdom, but they would also help him defend his kingdom from magic-users. He works now as Killian Hale's apprentice, tracking, hunting, and killing magic-users.
When his parents send him to Caesonia to find a wife, they can't believe it when he actually agrees. Little do they know...
An adventurous crown prince convinces his parents to let him marry a low-born girl. The year they finally find out she is with child, her life is violently ripped away by a magic-user who remains unknown. Lucian is a broken man, but after a dream of his beloved wife, he finds renewed determination to make this world a better place for those who come after. ifykyk
Qᴜᴇꜱᴛɪᴏɴɴᴀɪʀᴇ Qᴜᴇꜱᴛɪᴏɴɴᴀɪʀᴇ
History Did you grow up nurtured or neglected?: "I grew up privileged. It is not lost on me the opportunities my station and family have afforded me and I do make efforts to make sure those opportunities are not wasted." When you were upset, where was your sanctuary?: "The library usually. It was a place to escape to, a sanctuary where the stories could take me away. Though, as a child, the only thing that upset me were Mother's lectures. Not even Sylvia's more daring pranks..." What were you like in your teenage years?: "I think I'd say I was a wild child, much like some of my siblings. I was naive and stupid, but my parents believed in me and my choices. I think it's thanks to them allowing me to learn on my own that I have become the man I am today, for however much that is worth." How close are you to your parents?: "Extremely close. They are my guideposts and the two people in this world I look up to the most. However, I have drifted from them in recent years, largely due to their inaction to save our people from those monsters." Do you have any trauma that haunts you?: "If my nightmares have anything to say about it, yes. I hope you'll respect my disinterest in telling it like a story." What advice would you give your younger self?: "Join the Vanguard. Be vigilant so that nothing and no one can be taken from you." Were you an obedient child or defiant?: "Oh, absolutely defiant. I regularly skipped lectures, I muddied my nice shoes outside, I released all of the horses in a wild attempt to free them. My younger years saw an adventurous young boy who never wanted to sit still." What is your biggest regret?: "..."
Romance Have you ever been in love?: "Yes." What is most important in a partner to you? Describe your dream partner.: "Strength of Character. My partner in life will be queen, she needs to be someone with a level head and a strong sense of moral direction. She needs to be someone who puts the kingdom first. She needs to be the kind of person that when faced with her darkest fears, would still jump into action despite them. She would need to be clever and quick witted. I don't need a wife who puts herself in harms way, I will take on that role for her." How do you display affection? What is your love language?: "..." Have you had your first kiss? What was it like?: "I have. We were both very young, not much older than 16, if memory serves. I had snuck away to see her and play games with her. Unlike my siblings, she never complained about how tired all the running made her. She could always match my pace. While playing together, she had lost her grip on the tree we had been climbing. Without thinking, I jumped down to the ground in an attempt to catch her. And when I did, it was more like I became her crash pad. Her fall had broken my arm, which hurt like nothing else. At first, I hadn't noticed anything, but she let out a loud scream when she saw my bone poking through my wrist. In an attempt to calm her down, that was when I reached up with my good arm to pull her down for a kiss. Which did promptly shut her up... Though, it didn't stop her tears. Ever since then, I've had a scar on my wrist and I keep the red thread there to remind me of her and the lengths I would go to protect her so that I would never forget it." Do you believe in love at first sight? Why or why not?: "I do. Though if you had told me that the scraggly little girl I'd met in my youth would become the love of my life, I'd have called you a big fat liar. I have to think though, that when I saw her on our wedding day, I fell for her all over again." What does marriage mean to you?:"It used to mean love. These days, I see it more like a job to be done. A task to be checked off." Are you currently crushing on anyone?: "No." Do you ever consider having children in the future?: "By course of being a future King who needs heirs, yes."
Personality Describe your ideal Sunday morning: "Quiet, warm, with a good book and a steaming glass of tea. My mother at my side, telling me the latest gossip as I turn from my book to listen, enchanted by her storytelling prowess. Marnie enters to ask me if I'd like to go for a ride later that evening. Sophia enters behind her, smiling radiantly and reminding me to dress warmly just as I'm about to say yes to her." What kind of person do you aspire to be?: "I aspire to be the kind of King it's people can be proud of. Someone who bears the weight such that his people can live freely. A King who protects the weak and defeats evil." What bad habits do you have?: "Drinking, reading books into the morning, skipping meals." If you could go back in time and change anything in your past, what would it be?:"I would save her." What is your greatest fear?: "Things that cannot be seen." What are your pet peeves?: "Chewing with an open mouth, being interrupted or spoken over, people who walk too slowly" When you are in a sour mood, do you like to be alone or with others?: "I prefer to be with friends or loved ones. Though, if the only option is strangers, I'd rather be alone." Are you more likely to fight with your fists or your tongue?: "Fists. Actions have always spoken louder than words."
Lucian will continue to pine for his lost love. Whichever woman that wishes to court him will have to contend for the ghost of his lost love.
I, his writer, however am a complete sap for romance. When Lucian falls, he will fall hard and it will eat him alive out of guilt for his first wife. After all, who could ever have two soulmates? But, by god, will he love her.
I am such a goblin for plots where there is a damsel in distress and the romantic partner who loses their goddamn mind trying to save them. I'm talking unraveling at the seams to save her, positively coming undone at the idea of losing another love. Give me things like that and I'll be a happy Rosie.

Going to use this sheet to track characters that I either am currently writing or characters that I have fond memories of. If you are ever interested in writing with these characters or commenting on them, please feel free to send me a PM! Otherwise, please do not post here. Thank you!
@Oso I figured as much, so I'm already nursing some other male ideas. I just wasn't sure what the ratio was. I'm also definitely not opposed to other pairings as well (non-MxF).
Ayee, fellow "writes at work" buddy! One time my boss told me to "look busy" and not be on my phone and I said "you know.. typing away at my keyboard looks like work, right?" Lol.
@Oso Ooh, very happy to hear I've selected one that has a need.
I do think I can offer the commitment. I haven't been bitten with the writers bug in so long, I just know I'll be a little rusty. From the rules, seems like one post a week is the rule of thumb? I think I can handle at least that much!
I also completely understand from a roleplay perspective of characters who are involved in the plot suddenly no longer showing up stalling plots for other writers. I value communication in a roleplay so trust me, I'll do my best and put forth my bet effort to let you all know what's going on with me. My intention is definitely to go the distance!
Currently, I have very little free time at work (busy recruitment season)I say as I write this.. at work, but a ton of ideas and inspiration. I've been absolutely itching to write a good romance plot with someone for ages now and I feel like the vibes I've gotten from this fit what I'm looking for almost exactly. Very eager to see what we can come up with and write!

<br><br>She continued walking, her feet cut by the forest floor and raw by now. <br><br>Her tears pulled the attention of a man, just within earshot, who.. at first thought she might be some ghost. But against his better nature, walked closer to investigate. He hadn't planned on veering off course today, his mother would have surely punished him but he couldn't help his curiosity. It wasn't every day that the prince of his fair kingdom got the chance to explore out on his own like this, nevermind the fact that he'd slipped out unawares...<br><br>He approached the sound, still fully convinced he was going to be attacked by some foul witch or ghost trying to coax him closer, when he spotted her. She was hunched over in the grass and... completely naked?! He blinked, not really fully believing his eyes. But he couldn't stop his feet from getting closer from, trying to help her. <br><br>"..Miss? For all it's inhabitants that come from every walk of life, every corner of the world, he fights to protect and improve their lives. He is not a dragon to take his work and role lightly and expects as much from his future offspring.<br><br>His best friend growing up was a dragon called Ambrose, a very energetic Pearlcatcher dragon. Ambrose also had no idea as to why the two breeds had such disdain for each other.<br><br>"Why would anyone hate a Pearlcatcher? I think your pearls are really cool." Cuprite told his friend one day, huffing a bit at the idea of being mean just because of his breed. "Why wouldn't I think they're cool?"<br><br>"I'm not sure, honestly. I don't get why so many of my kind don't like yours. I asked my aunt and she said it's jealousy." Ambrose returned, shoulders shrugging apathetically.<br><br>"Well... I'm not jealous of any of the pearlcatchers! I think it's stupid to think like that." Cuprite huffed indignantly.<br><br>"And I'm not jealous of you. I can't really even think of a reason why I would be, you know?" Ambrose returned. "But... what can we do about other people? Not much."<br><br>"Well, when I'm older, I'm going to make my own clan where things like that don't matter. Where everyone is treated equally. I can't change everyone's way of thinking, but if you and I can think like this, the surely others can!" Cuprite huffed, sure of himself as he puffed his chest out. Nevermind the fact that he had no idea what it would take to lead a clan himself.<br><br>"That sounds nice... but I wonder if it's possible..." Ambrose sighed.<br><br>"Of course it is! Anything is possible if you put your mind to it."<br><br>Despite Cuprite's reassurances, he wasn't able to convince his friend to join him when he left their clan. His mother, however, was less than happy and made several attempts over the course of Cuprite's preparations to leave to stop him and his sister.<br><br>Unable to sway Cuprite or Raira to stay, the two left and set off to find a space for their clan. He allows dragons to enter freely and leave freely.<br><br>Dragons do have to be approved by his now trusted Advisors, a pair of Wildclaw dragons that had more than proven their worth protecting Cuprite and his family in the underbrush below the Behemoth. Amore and Aconite became a part of the Advisory Council that helped approve the acceptance of new dragons into their clan by helping them find a job/role within the community. Amore takes a larger role in helping to train old and new adult dragons to defend themselves along with his mate, Aconite.<br><br>Raira and her husband, Bercilak also help in guiding the community on the Advisory Council. Raira spends her time with her husband answering the questions of the clan in her brother's place so that Cuprite may spend his days working with other clan's leaders to build diplomatic influence for their clan and create healthy relationships with their neighbors.</div></div><br><br><div class="hider-panel"><div class="hider-heading"><button type="button" class="btn btn-default btn-xs hider-button" data-name="More Dragon Lore (Flight Rising)">More Dragon Lore (Flight Rising) [+]</button></div><div class="hider-body" style="display: none">One day, while taking a stroll through the forest with his mate, Cuprite noticed a small tuft of bright green fur poking out from the bush. It wiggled a bit as he approached. He called out softly, "Hello?"<br><br>His mate, Eden, perked her head up, now seeing the odd looking hair as well. And just as soon as she took a step to get closer, it seemed to pop out at her. She was about to lift a paw to claw at it in defense, when Cuprite lifted a paw to stop her.<br><br>The bright green tuft of hair had gotten herself stuck in a mess of tangled sticks and bramble. Her big bright pinks looked up at him and they swirled with an intense arcane energy. All he could think of was that it must have been painful, having so much magical energy in such a small body. Leaning down, Cuprite, gave the small deer looking creature a cursory sniff before moving to help her out of the brambles.<br><br>She huffed and stomped her hooves in protest, even though she knew deep down he was only trying to help her. Once freed, however, she pranced around him in glee, bounding cheerfully.<br><br>"That feels better, hm?" He chuckled, watching her until it made him feel dizzy. She paused for a moment, those big pink eyes watching him before she took a few steps closer to him, tentatively. Taking it as an invitation, Cuprite, bent his head down to her, to be a bit more on her level. At this, she slowly pressed forward until their noses touched.<br><br>Pink sparks seemed to literally fly in the space between their snouts, and Cuprite felt something shoot down his spine. His heart felt warm and suddenly he could her a voice...<br><br>"Hello? Hello? Can you hear me?"<br><br>The voice was soft, gentle and sounded very much like a young hatchling might.<br><br>"Yes... I can hear you..."<br><br>"Oh! Oh! Joy! That brings me so much joy! I think I would have been in those brambles forever if you hadn't come along." She chuckled, seeming to grin to herself. Her blue fur seemed to shimmer even more in the light of the sun as she stepped into a patch of sunlight.<br><br>"And you are...?" He asked, chuckling again.<br><br>"Hm? Me? I.. To be honest, I'm not sure what I am! I just.. woke up and started wandering around. And then I got stuck.. and then I met you!"<br><br>"My love... Just who exactly are you talking to?" Eden asked, a worried expression turning on her face as she watched him.<br><br>"Hm? You can't hear her?" He asked, confused.<br><br>"Oh, only you can! I'm your spirideer now!" She started, blinking for a moment. "Oh... I guess that just came to me... weird... But anyway, I bonded to you! Well, our hearts did." She explained, making a quick spin as sparkles of magic floated around her.<br><br>"My... Spirideer?" Cuprite started, blinking a bit. He hadn't expected a new companion today, much less one that bonded to him... But, here he was.</div></div><br><br><div class="hider-panel"><div class="hider-heading"><button type="button" class="btn btn-default btn-xs hider-button" data-name="Even More Dragon Lore (Flight Rising)">Even More Dragon Lore (Flight Rising) [+]</button></div><div class="hider-body" style="display: none">Raira had always been a free spirit. Though, she hadn't anticipated he'd settle them down so quickly...<br><br>She still hasn't really forgiven him for that and regularly leaves the community to explore on her own. If asked, she'd explain that there was something inside of her, something that vibrated with an intensity she couldn't explain and the only solution was to fly free and explore at her own pace.<br><br>Raira didn't have many friends growing up, but the one she had was the truest friend she'd ever had. The only person who knew about Pache was her brother Cuprite, who despite not understanding how she could understand or communicate with Pache respected her relationship with him.<br><br>Raira remembers a humorous moment when Pache and Cuprite misunderstood each other.<br><br>"...What? Why are you doing that?" Cuprite asked, his eyes narrowing as he watched the small white Fae dragon flutter around him, bouncing up and down from the ground wildly, his head frills moving and undulating.<br><br>"Raira!" The smaller dragon called, his voice high-pitched but utterly monotone.<br><br>"What about her?" Cuprite asked again.<br><br>"Birth! Birth!" Pache cried out, still trilling frantically.<br><br>"What?!" He asked, blinking. "Are you trying to say Raira has laid eggs? That's not even possible! She's too young!" He started, now frantic. "Oh god, how would we explain this to mother? Should we tell her? Do we have to?" Cuprite mumbled to himself, mind churning.<br><br>Pache visibly deflated a bit before starting back up again. By the time Pache spoke again, Cuprite was already running to find Raira. "Birth day! Birth dayyyy!" He cried out after the larger dragon.<br><br>Cuprite had found Raira by that point and a rather humorous exchange took place in which her brother, face impossibly red, tried to ask her if she had laid any eggs recently. Which had, in fact, prompted a rather red face from her as well. They had a rather long conversation about trying to learn how to properly read Pache's frills but that certainly wasn't the only time Cuprite and Pache had misunderstood each other.<br><br>When Raira arrived at the Gladebough Village, she met an incredibly handsome and sweet Imperial Dragon whom she fell instantly in love with. She spent the first few months they were in the village, following him around, trying to impress him with both her physical prowess and intelligence. He didn't seem interested at all at first. He often scoffed silently and turned his nose up at her, walking away. But after months of trying and trying, Raira was a few steps away from giving up on him completely when he actually responded to her.<br><br>"Bercilak! I found a pretty stone while hunting near the river that I wanted to show you." Raira called out, grinning as she dropped the stone at his table, where he was reading a scroll on the history of fighting tactics used by Ice dragons. She half expected him to completely ignore her and was ready after waiting a moment to pick the stone back up and turn away.<br><br>She watched him look up from his scroll, however, head raising just slightly as he looked at the stone. "It is.. very pretty.." He mumbled, glancing her away for the briefest of moments before looking back at his book.<br><br>From then on, Raira never left Bercilak alone and it seemed as though the younger dragon didn't mind. As she walked, however, she heard the roar of a dire claw.<br><br>It swiped at her and she barely managed to dodge out of the way. It felt as if everything moved in slow motion. The leaves in the trees seemed to still as she watched Bercilak leap out in front of her, fighting with the bear. He was severely wounded, but the young dragon did manage to hold his ground against the bear long enough for it to tire of them and run off. Worried, Raira raced to his side.<br><br>"Bercy, are you okay? Oh my goodness... Oh no... What am I going to do.." She cried out, tears streaming down her face. In her mind, his wounds had to be fatal, she just knew it.<br><br>"Calm down, little one..." He replied, his voice soft and even toned. It sounded as if he wasn't even hurt. Which, Raira had to admit had bolstered her mood considerably. Tears still streamed down her face but now, she felt like he would be okay, that it would be okay.<br><br>"Let me go get Cuprite!" She called out, starting to get up. She was stopped by Bercilak, who had grabbed her leg and pulled her back.<br><br>"Stay... He'll come back to check on us and I don't want you to be alone out there..." He grumbled, voice deep and now tinged with obvious pain. Raira could feel her heart breaking for him but she stayed with him, doing what she could. Cuprite did eventually find them and rush to help his sister get Bercilak back to the village for healing.<br><br>Since that moment, a sort of unspoken bond formed between Raira and Bercilak and they became mates despite never asking one another. Because of this incident, Raira spends a lot of her time researching healing salves and healing magic so that she never has to feel that helpless again.</div></div><br><br><span class="bb-b">Catch me on;</span><br><br>FlightRising - HylianRose<br>Pokefarm Q - HylianRoze<br>Discord - Ask!<br></div>
