Iyen never intended to be a warrior. Or have anything to do with arms, in fact. The performing arts had always been her greater – and in many ways, only – interest. Songs, dances, traditional theatre, such things were what a young Iyen had seen in her future. Unfortunately, the civil war that tore the Commonwealth asunder put a quick end to those plans. Sudharyar was one of the first provinces to declare themselves for the High Queen, and as such was also the first province to be invaded and occupied by the Imperial Restorationists. Most Sudhrayarns chose to stay and resist their occupiers in a guerrilla war. Iyen and her family were amongst those who decided to flee westwards.

It was a perilous journey, one made all the worse as province after province in East and Central Viserjanta either fell to, or declared themselves for the Restorationists. At Weksah, the Sudhrayarn refugees faced their worst day when almost half of their fleet – and the people they carried – were either sunk or captured in battle. Amongst the former were Iyen’s mother and younger siblings. By the time she and the survivors found refuge on Jafin shores, only a third of those who originally left Sudhrayar still remained.

Deep in mourning, angry, and thirsty for revenge, Iyen did what most of her people did, and joined the Sudhrayarn military-in-exile. She proved to be an excellent fighter, but a poor soldier. Although her skills in various weapons couldn’t be disputed, her personal discipline and ability to fight as part of a larger unit left plenty to be desired. That would have been the end of Iyen’s military adventure, had the High Queen’s Representative in the East – Lady Adiyan – not requested for a personal bodyguard. Iyen was given the task, as it was thought that her personal prowess in combat, and the expectation that a bodyguard would not be expected to fight in the line of battle, would make her a good fit for the job.

For the rest of the war, Iyen followed Lady Adiyan wherever the latter went. Most of the time, these travels also involved the Fourth Lesser Marquis of Jafi, a certain Wasun Sjan-dehk. Whenever Iyen had to go ashore for her tasks, it was usually in the company or with the support of the Jafin noble. Together, they wreaked havoc on Restorationist forces in Viserjanta’s western territories. And once they were done with the west, the three of them followed Commonwealth forces eastwards, until they liberated Sudhrayar from Restorationist control. Unlike her family, Iyen chose not to stay, and instead continued to accompany Lady Adiyan and Sjan-dehk as they spent the last year of the war tying up loose ends. 

By war’s end, Iyen had forged a close friendship with both Sjan-dehk and Lady Adiyan. Moreso with the former; for close to five years, they had eaten, slept, fought, laughed, cried, and celebrated alongside one another on a near-daily basis. To Iyen, Sjan-dehk was akin to a brother, and Lady Adiyan, their motherly and concerned aunt. It thus came as no surprise to anyone that Iyen volunteered to follow them to seas and lands unknown, even when she was given the option of staying behind. 

It wasn’t a difficult decision for her to make. Exploring the wider world, and with those closest to her outside of her family, no less? That was a dream. Iyen would have never forgiven herself had she allowed that opportunity to slip past her fingers.

As someone living outside of Caesonian law, whilst operating within Caesonia, Kidelaut wears whatever that will help in blend in with the crowd the most. His equipment are supported by waist- and shoulder-belts, much like a regular musketeer. 

In a fight, he wears a stripped-down version of the panoply he used in Caesonian service, consisting of a lightened breastplate, a pauldron on his right shoulder, and shortened tassets. All Caesonian insignia are either removed or defaced. When he needs to hide his identity, he wraps a simply, plain orange cloth around his face, or wears a white theatre mask that covers his entire face.

Maybe he should never have touched that hat.

Maybe he should have left it where he had found it; forgotten on a muddy road, and soaked by the falling autumn rain. Maybe he should have pretended that he hadn’t seen it drift from one of the woman’s over-laden baskets. In hindsight, it would have certainly saved him plenty of trouble, and a world’s worth of heartache. But Kidelaut, honourable and dutiful knight of Caesonia that he had been, simply couldn’t leave it alone. He just had to pick the damnable thing up. He just had to run over to the woman to return it. And then, he just had to help her carry her finished hats over to the millinery’s warehouse.

Still, that could have been the end of it. There had been no need for him to seek her out in the following days; no need for him to come up with silly excuses as to why he kept running into her, and there had surely been no need for him to – after a few ‘chance’ encounters – join her for dinner and drinks after her shifts at the millinery. But Kidelaut did all of that. Then, he did more. He grew to love her, and she grew to love him. And for a few sweet months, that was all that mattered to Kidelaut. 

But as with all sweet things, the bitterness that followed cut deep.

Kidelaut never gave much thought to the intricacies of hat-making. Who did? A hat was only ever a thing to be bought, to be worn, and to ultimately be left collecting dust in a closet. But the woman – Kidelaut’s dear lover – taught him many things. One of which was how raw fur was separated from hides and matted together to form felt. It was a simple process, really, and one with a strange name – carroting. Anyone could be taught to do it, and so everyone who worked at the millinery was expected to work the carroting station – ‘fingering the felt’, as the workers called it – at least once a day.

Turning matted furs into smooth felt, however, involved the use of a chemical. The orange stuff, as it was colloquially known. What comprised it, how it worked, and what exactly it did, Kidelaut never found out. He did know, however, that it contained a poison. A dangerous one; one that accumulated in the body over many, many periods of exposure. It was a slow, insidious, and cruel killer. It had no cure. And it was that which afflicted Kidelaut’s lover. 

Naturally, Kidelaut ignored common medical knowledge, and went about seeking a cure. Although his efforts were in vain, he did uncover an alternative to the orange stuff. It wasn’t completely safe, but it was at least a lot less likely to poison an unsuspecting worker through regular use. And it wasn’t even anything new; it was already in use in millineries outside of Caesonia.

Kidelaut took his findings to the merchant who owned the millinery. The merchant listened attentively to his words, took them all in, and disregarded them with a flippant explanation. This alternative chemical wasn’t unknown to the merchant, but it was simply too expensive to bring in the quantities needed to replace the existing stocks of orange stuff. Kidelaut, naturally, pointed out that the millinery could afford it in exchange for just a year of reduced profit. Their doors would still be open, Kidelaut argued. The merchant simply had to live with a year of less money. And naturally, he was shown the door. 

So, Kidelaut went to the lord he served. Surely, the man who had, so many years ago, given a young Kidelaut – back then a mere youth of sixteen earning his keep by working odd jobs and fighting in tournaments – a chance would be more reasonable. Once again, Kidelaut presented his argument. And once again, he was told, albeit in a nicer manner this time, that his suggestion wasn’t feasible. The lord couldn’t order the merchant to make the changes because the merchant would simply up and leave for another holding, and the millinery alone hired most of the locals. Its disappearance would be disastrous.

And that, really, was all the answer Kidelaut needed. What use was a lord who couldn’t even corral a single merchant? And what worth was a merchant whose greed blinded them to decency? His mind made up, Kidelaut began to make his plans.

He stayed with his lover throughout her final years. He watched as the poison took her health, her mind, her body, and when she had nothing left, her life. The very same night she drew her last breath, Kidelaut prayed for her soul, asked for her forgiveness, and – as per her request – cremated her and scattered her ashes in a nearby meadow.

The next day, Kidelaut returned to the merchant and cremated him as well. Sadly, he failed to properly kill the man before setting him alight. Kidelaut then left for the wilderness, where he killed every guard, every mercenary, and every bounty hunter his former lord sent after him. When the merchant’s son took over the millinery, Kidelaut sent him a message containing the exact same things he had told his father. And when the son chose to ignore it like his predecessor, Kidelaut returned to finish things once and for all.

He roused the workers – already upset about the hazards of their work – into action, and together they stormed the millinery and torched the place to the ground. The lord’s guards arrived and, naturally, slew a number of the workers, but the survivors fled with Kidelaut back into the Caesonian countryside. Most decided to leave for greener pastures, but those that stayed became the core of Kidelaut’s loose group of part-time mercenaries, and full-time rebels. They wouldn’t stay together for long, of course – it made it too easy for the King’s men to catch them all at once – but when needed, they would come together to raise more havoc for the powers that be.

Maybe Kidelaut should never have touched that hat. But he never regretted doing what he did. For he had been blind before he met his lover, oblivious to the evils of the land, and she had helped him see. 

And now, Kidelaut would make sure the rest of Caesonia saw what he saw as well.

Sioridann never was an agreeable person.

Or they assumed they never were; they couldn’t think of any other reason as to why their mother would so readily sell them to a trader of illicit goods so soon after their father’s death. And as if to rub salt into the wound, they were chosen out of seven other siblings. At least the money was good – or at least, that’s what Sioridann often drily hopes – otherwise the suffering they would go through for years would be all for naught. And it was indeed a terrible few years, the time they spent with the trader. Sioridann witnessed just about every possible depravity one could imagine, and had the same inflicted upon their person.

But in hindsight, and in an ironically twisted way, it was during that time that Sioridann picked up most of the skills that would prove most useful in destroying the very system and people that tormented them.

Sioridann’s time with this dark aspect of the Caesonian underworld came to an end when an adventurer attacked the trader’s encampment. This was also Sioridann’s first encounter with magic, and at first, it absolutely terrified them. To see someone manipulated forces unknown and infernal to crush, maim, and utterly destroy people – even ones as vile as the trader – was enough to put the fear of the Gods in their heart, and Sioridann hadn’t believed in them for years by that point. And yet at the same time, they felt a strange sense of kinship with the adventurer.

And so, after all was done, and the trader and his fellows were no more, Sioridann followed the adventurer as a mere assistant at first, and when their own abilities began to manifest, as an apprentice. This period of their life remains one which they remember fondly. Their days were spent either practising, studying, or helping the adventurer with his daily tasks. An older man, who seemed to carry the weight of the world upon his shoulders, he was simultaneously a father figure and a mentor to Sioridann. Through him, they learned the tricks of living outside of Caesonian law, and the ways of a hedge mage.

But where there’s magic, there’s the King’s men.

Sioridann wasn’t there when the adventurer was finally taken by Magehunters – she was busy gathering firewood – but they did witness the gruesome aftermath. And when they finally arrived at the town where the adventurer was receiving his sentence, they witnessed the end of the man who, for a good few years, had been their only friend and companion. And just like that, Sioridann was alone in the world, once again.

For a while, they did everything and anything to survive. But soon, that wasn’t enough. They wanted vengeance. Who were these Magehunters, these people of status who saw it fit to murder a man who had done nothing wrong? Who had, in fact, been the one to dispense justice to those who received none? The righteous indignation burned within Sioridann until one day, they decided to act upon it. Sioridann was no fighter – they were perhaps the farthest thing from it – but that didn’t stop them. With their abilities, it took only a mere rumour, whispered into the right ear, for a Magehunter to be bludgeoned to death in a dark alley behind a tavern. 

Another whisper, and a Magehunter was killed in a drunken brawl.

A few whispers, and a group of them were stabbed to death by an angry mob.

And this was how Sioridann wandered from village to village, town to town, and city to city. Each time, they would first see if there were any Magehunters around. If there were, they would then take the time to ingratiate themselves with the local tavern crowd. Not a difficult task for someone as skilled in the art of seduction as Sioridann. Every night, they would sow a new whisper of strife and doubt. Every night, they would nurture it, until the time was right. Then, they need only give things one simple push, and things would take care of themselves. By the time the dust settled, they would have returned to the road.

Sioridann never was an agreeable person. And Caesonia was about to see how disagreeable they could be.

History Summary:

One For All

Well. Where does one begin with Arne. His upbringing was fairly normal. Decent family from Krasivaya, father was a career naval officer and mother was a homemaker. Arne and his sister Ingrid grew up in relative comfort, with their father bringing home his salary and their mother making things work at all times. This continued for what felt like ages.

Until his uncle Halfdan showed up at their doors. Arne's father, Ragnar, of course welcomed his brother into his house and shared food and drink with him. Halfdan of course did not refuse. Being 13, Arne was allowed to stick around and share ale with the men as they talked about life and their own journeys. Sven with his heroics with the navy and Halfdan with his exploits as a privateer at sea. They all worked for the Royal Family, no doubt, but their approach to life could not be more different. Ragnar was a man of the people, always following the law and he was fair with all he had dealings with. Halfdan was cunning, willing the bend the law for his benefit and tended to take advantage of people as long as it did not cause grievous harm. Young Arne did not understand the difference, but he knew he wanted to be like his father, and be a officer in the Royal Navy. So. As soon as he was allowed to, much to his mother's chagrin, Arne joined and was  coincidentally  placed into his father's squadron, as the lowest enlisted member. Ragnar gave young Arne no quarters. He treated his son as any other enlisted seamen, and one could even say he was extraordinarily strict towards the young Arne. Arne paid it no mind. He understood that his father was behaving as such to sharpen him up, to make him seaworthy. Dutifully, Arne served and learned. The other members of the squadron thought Arne was going to rise faster than them due to nepotism, but no. Arne rose slower than his peers, as his father would have liked. He was to be given no leeway. His achievements were seldom acknowledged, much less celebrated and his mistakes were scrutinized and reprimanded accordingly. Arne never once bared a grudge towards his father or other officers in the ranks. He wanted this. He wanted to learn and become someone his father can trust.

Fast forward 5 years. Arne, now 20, was a lieutenant in the Royal Navy. His peers were ranked higher but they did not care. To them, Arne was the most deserving of a higher rank than all of them. Arne has always done exemplary work and the senior and flag officers would all agree to that. Ragnar, now ranked Rear Admiral, had to constantly remind and sometimes plead with his own peers to not over-praise Arne. 

Meanwhile, Halfdan Agnarrson, Privateer, was still roaming the seas, parading his royal pardon to any who would listen. Often, it would be Rear Admiral Agnarrson commissioning Privateer Agnarrson and his ship, the Sun Howler, to 'rid the coasts of would be intruders'. Stories of Halfdan's ruthlessness started reaching back to the naval command and Ragnar had to call Halfdan into a meeting, unofficially. The conversation got heated and that's the last Arne heard from or about his uncle...

Fast forward another 5 years. Now 25, Arne has once again climbed in ranks. Commordore First Class Arne Ragnarson. That was his official title. To anyone that served with his father, and have not retired, his title when not in an official setting is 'The kid' or 'Ragnar's boy'. Such as it is when your father is a retired legend, with over 100 sorties and expeditions under his belt, having been made Vice-Admiral just before he reached his maximum service time and retired to full honors. Arne carried all with him with pride. His father, and his achievements, have always been what he striven to reach. Now that there is a clear, and defined, goal ahead of him, Arne can do everything in his power to make his father proud.

Or so he thought.

On one sunny morning, an order came down from command that Arne and his squadron is to set out in pursuit of a company of rogue privateers that have since been labeled pirates. Arne, being the dutiful officer that he is, accepted the mission without hesitate and tasked his crew to embark posthaste. Aboard the HMS Thunder Waves, the flagship in the newest Zephyr-Class warship, Arne and his crew spearheaded the chase of this rogue privateer. One thing of note is that the mission did not disclose the name of the privateer or his ship. They were simply given an order to pursuit any ships that flew the black. During the mission, Arne operated efficiently, albeit all with a sense of unease, like he was doing something wrong. 

After two weeks at sea, Arne receives a message from another ship in the squadron that they had spotted three ships, all flying the black. Arne gave the command to set course to pursue the trio of pirate ships and his crew sprang into action. Over the next two days, the HMS Thunder Waves and her squadron made up for lost time and were now in range to fire upon the rogue ships. Arne fired a volley of warning shots, hoping that the ships would slow and surrender themselves. When that did not happen, Arne gave the order to make the necessary adjustments and prepare to fire. Just then. The three ships being pursues simultaneously lowered their flags and raised a white flag on their main mast. Arne gathered nine of his best fighters and left the HMS Thunder Waves in the command of his first mate before boarding a dingy to set out to parlay with the pirates.

What he would see when he reached the other party would shock him. It was his uncle, Halfdan Agnarrson, leading the pirated. Arne and his team were lead aboard the Sun Howler to treatise and come to terms. However, Halfdan gave Arne his side of the story, of how the Royal Family grew tired of how wealthy Halfdan had gotten with his royal commission and simply wanted him gone. That Arne is now faced with a decision. Arne can fight him and his crew, potentially win, and accomplishing him missions, But in order to do that he'd have to kill his own blood. Or, he can join him and become a pirate, living freely of any shackles in doing so. Arne of course declined and continued to try to reason with his uncle, that him and his crew should return to port with Arne and all will be sorted with the Royal Family. Halfdan laughed at how naive his nephew was and made the first move. Halfdan's crew snuck up and gave a swift stab to any unsuspecting naval crew and was able to dispatch any remaining. Arne, shocked to his core, drew his standard issue cutlass and prepared to fight to the death. Instead, with one hand gesture, Halfdan stood his crew down and let Arne leave. Halfdan told Arne to think upon his words and actions, and see the light of what the Royal Family really is about.

Arne made it back to the HMS Thunder Waves and gave the command to pursue the pirates with everything they had. However, in the delay of Arne rowing himself back to his ship, the pirates caught the easterlies and disappeared behind the setting sun. Dejected, having lost the lives of 9 of his crew, Arne called off the pursuit and returned to port. The Royal Family of course did not take kindly to their mission being failed and came down hard on Arne. Arne, being who he is, shouldered the blame of everything and made certain that his crew were only very lightly reprimanded, if at all. Through it all, Arne was was placed on an indefinite leave without pay, and even his own father had his pensions reduced to that of an captain for 6 months as punishment. Arne tried to explain what happened, the choices he faced and the information he was given by his uncle. Ragnar tried his best to understand, but his sense of justice did not allow him. He saw this family as the biggest stain on the family, even more than his own younger brother essentially turning to piracy. He disowned Arne, despite the pleadings of Arne's mother and sister. 

Devastated, Arne left home. All he had with him with whatever monies he had on him and the uniform that he wore that faithful day. Arne spent the next 6 months drifting from port to port, not being accepted by neither side of the coin. The freefolk saw him as a officer of the law and the common folk saw him as a disgraced officer. This turn of events turned his heart to ice, made him realize what his uncle told him that day was the truth, that the Royal Family would squeeze every drop of usefulness out of someone then they're simply discarded without second thought. Everything he has done for them meant nothing. 

He tore apart what remained of his naval uniform and burned it. He vowed to take down the Royal Family. It was no longer "One For All" for Arne.

He used what he had available to him, that being knowledge of the Royal Navy and their strategic position, and bargained his way aboard the Remembrance. Fighting, pillaging, and redistributing whatever loot he came across, this is now his mission. Never again shall the Royal Family use him for their benefit. Now, he shall be the biggest thorn on their side.

History Summary:
Before the Kingdom of Caesonia expanded into the region now known as Vermilion, the barbarians that occupied the area around present-day Encia were particularly resilient. Whenever one clan came under attack, with an alarming frequency, another clan would come from a flanking position on the Kingdom’s advancing army. While the Kingdom advanced steadily, engagements were trying. Their strategic coordination was strange and powerful. Their warriors, as well, were particularly formidable among the barbarians in the area. Due to the costly nature of engagements, when the Kingdom received an offer of submission, they took it. The warrior clans asked only to keep their way of life, their culture, and a treaty was struck. The Lancaster Barony is old, old enough that many have forgotten the importance of it.

Up until two years ago, Raynor Lancaster had an easy life to look forward to. Nothing too opulent, like you might find in the capital city, but easy enough. His needs were to be met and he would marry a woman from one of the clansmen elder families, or marry upward, if possible. Two years ago, such ideas were shattered when the then Lieutenant Stratya Durmand shattered his father’s underground sorcerer ring and black market. Raynor was left with many pieces to pick up and put back together.

With his time, the bookish man had read much of the library in his home since childhood. Myths, legends, fiction, non, he’d read much and more in the thousands and thousands of pages. That’s how he noticed something amiss in his town.

It started with the disturbances in 1733, speckled with murders. Stratya, the first child of an elder family and his old friend, had come to him for counsel after the first murder in 1734. Her keen observation and his literary mastery proved useful together, to his surprise. The implications of the things they discovered ran deep into the Barony. It was discovered that Maximilian Lancaster had been keeping things quiet purposefully. The problems were routed in 1737.

Strictly professional, Roman can be joyful at times happy even, but those times are few and far. He does care about his people and innocent lives that are outside of his mission parameters, not for some sense of being a hero. No, he will use that too if it benefits his goals. The deaths of bystanders are just harder to clean up sometimes and it gets in the way of making allies.

None of this is to say that he is a mindless killer. Roman at his core enjoys fighting, one of the few times he feels free, the occasional drink, and a good story. Yet, he is calculating, patient, and reserved. Killing outright rarely serves his goals but he will never be afraid of it. He is after all just a soldier without much for a moral code or care for what's right or wrong, only that the kingdom of Varian eventually comes out on top.

The only things that are truly his own to control are his emotions. Deep down he knows that he can be better, maybe even be free. That however is not something he can do on his own and he knows it.

Confidence and pride radiate from Hala Sami, striding through life with an unmistakable sense of supremacy. A perfectionist to their core, they approach each task with meticulous attention to detail, though their easily triggered boredom means they quickly lose interest in anything that fails to stimulate them adequately. Born into a life of privilege and pressure as the child of Vali Malik Sami, Hala was groomed from birth to be a perfect instrument of power—sophisticated, lethal, and utterly loyal. Growing up under Malik's strict rule, Hala learned that love was conditional and approval had to be earned through excellence. So they studied hard and trained harder, driven by a desire to prove their worth and try to live up to their father's expectations  

At a young age, Hala was presented to Hafiz Kadir as a "gift"—a gesture of loyalty from Malik to his powerful ally. Recognizing Hala's potential, Hafiz treated them with calculated kindness, showering them with attention and praise. Though Hala knew this affection was strategic, they couldn't help but yearn for more. Personality Summary
Aslam maintains an aura of calm aloofness both in public settings and amidst his family. One would be inclined to call him lazy with the smooth, soft way he speaks and the unhurried manner in which he moves. That energy is instead direct to his projects and goals, working intensely and tirelessly when something captures his attention. It is not unheard of for him to seal himself in the palace's lab only to fall into a deep slumber once whatever he was working on is finished.

Emotions beyond a friendly tone rarely tint his voice. He is one to insist on solving disputes and arguments at later date when time has passed and the two parties can meet more privately.

Aslam is one to dwell on details and the particulars of any situation or conversation. Sometimes his curiosity can bring him to probe uncomfortable or sensitive topics.

Underlying all of this is a sleeping beast, a monster to some. Aslam was always protective of his siblings but it only worsened after his mother died and the incident regarding his last love. To a degree, he eagerly awaits those who try to stand against his family just so he can put them in their place. The Elixir of Life. A fantastical legend about a miracle potion that can cure any disease...or revive the dead. Aslam's passionate research of alchemy is in pursuit of this elusive and mythical concoction throwing whatever resources he has when a lead comes up. This is all for the purpose of of keeping his family and close friends alive throughout the turbulent times they find themselves in.

Aslam wishes to advances the science of alchemy to the point where magic is viewed as antiquated and irrelevant. The first son of the Sultan was a joyous occassion and he may have been just as spoiled and entitled as his older sister if not for her influence. Aslam found his older sister to be highly amusing and often worked behind her back to create situations that both reinforced and challenged her believed superiority. However, it did dissuade him from acting similar and inspire the curious mind that would dominate his actions and personality going forward.

Aslam became the ideal prince of the kingdom if only for his own sake and amusement, blending pride and humility into his interactions with the citizens. His knack for observation and study allowed him to navigate social events deftly while remaining aloof enough to cause others to underestimate his ambition. He breezed through his various tutors' instructions and soon found himself diving into independent study and research.

His first foray into the world of Alchemy sparked something within him. A drive to see just where it could go and take him. Untraceable poisons, remedies for all ailments...the promise of such wonderful concoctions drew his complete devotion and love.

That was until one day wandering the various market stalls of a bazaar within the royal capital that he met her.

She was not from any noble house he could extract from her nor was she the daughter of a wealthy merchant. Yet, she possessed a mind that seemed to rival his own and he found himself talking late into the night with her that day they met. With a promise to talk more, Aslam found himself sneaking to that market over and over just to spend time with her and discuss a variety of subjects they were passionate about at the time. It was not long that this budding friendship sprouted into something much more. He more than once gushed about his new flame to his closer siblings, rarely ever speaking of her appearance.

What she had failed to mention to him was her involvement with the darker side of Alidasht. Aslam would later find out that she was responsible for the  creation of many poisons and drugs that filtered through the underworld. She might have saw a way out with Aslam as she began to distance herself from that life without his knowledge. It had just been another day slipping out of the palace to see her when she first went missing. Aslam had brushed it off as something that came up and needed her attention. His view and attitude shifted quickly once a couple days had passed without being able to spot her once.

Aslam wasted no time going towards her home, where they had spent intimate moments together. There he found her sliced open, let to rot, nails split with her struggle.

He was distant and cold for many months after that gruesome discovery, locking himself in his study or room for most of the day. During that same periods, a notorious organization was picked apart with numerous raids and busts. What made the inquisition of the group strange was the majority of leaders were either found dead or perish shortly after being sentenced.

Aslam ended up with a overwhelming fear of the unknown as a result. Mysteries became obsessions. Questions always demanded answers. This developed into his own personal network of spies and informants, centered around his family and close friends.

The death of their mother hit him especially hard and its mystery is one that haunts him to this day. An adjoining room of his personal chambers is cluttered with documents and rambling notes all concerning her death. Time has blunted his obsession but he is forever on the lookout for the missing piece that will point him in the right direction. For now, Aslam does his best to balance his obligations as a prince with his pursuit of knowledge and enjoying what time he can with his beloved siblings.

Did you grow up nurtured or neglected?: "I must admit that parents were quite invested into my early development, my father in particular. I consider myself blessed to have the siblings I do."
When you were upset, where was your sanctuary?: "That would have to the royal library. It was quiet and offered a place to think about the problem over a good book."
What were you like in your teenage years?:"Very opinionated and outspoken with those opinions. A sharp mind and a sharp tongue does not make you right."
How close are you to your parents?: "I hold my father in the highest regard even if mother's passing has hardened his soul. I...visit her grave often."
Do you have any trauma that haunts you?: "The two most important women in my life are gone. All this knowledge and it didn't protect them."
What advice would you give your younger self?: "Theory is only worth as much as it can be applied."
Were you an obedient child or defiant?: "I suppose I was defiant to an extent. I often disobeyed my parents when I thought I knew better."
What is your biggest regret?: "Not being there when it mattered."

History Summary:  Fareed was a street urchin of no renown. One who wandered the slums and surrounding sands of Genasea and scrabbled for changes between the cobbles and spent the day being chased from the market. Days spent dirty and sweaty with gruel as the only meal at the orphanage. An obligation by the mean old crone that ran the place.

It must have just been a chance of cosmic proportions that led him to catch the Sultan's eye, still red from tears that came with the fresh death of his wife. Fareed stood in a crowd that stood in silence for a funerary procession. Still in ragged clothes, and frankly not wanting to be there but the crone made the entire household turn up for it. Perhaps, that was the only good thing she did, however incidental. 

The Sultan looked stoically forward, holding a corner of the carriage that held his wife. Yet his gaze strayed just far enough left to catch the orphans. It was the only moment that the procession paused before its completion. He did nothing then, but after dark had fallen several of the royal Bostanji arrived and took Fareed to the palace. A small payment left to the crone.

He was brought before the Sultan's very chambers and allowed inside where the man sat with no opulent robes or jewels, but the most important thing held in his arms. Sultan Raif said no words but held the small Fareed in a watery gaze before, very hesitantly, he handed over the small bundle. 

It was such an insignificant moment, to hold a child of no relation. To any other they might have found a sense of cuteness or disgust, but Fareed? Fareed was enraptured by a toothless smile and a giggle that would make him topple any kingdom.

The next morning the Sultan invited him to a table for breakfast and announced his adoption. That afternoon started his training to guard th… His, family. A task he took towards gratefully.

From that moment on he was the silent shadow to any member of the family. Whether it was the one that enraptured his heart, or the ones that tried to avoid him. He was always there, watching. To this date, there have been no successful attempts on anyone's life, no matter how much they seem to want to toss it away with foolish stunts.

History

Did you grow up nurtured or neglected?:  
I would not call myself nurtured nor neglected. The Sultan raised me as his own, but my duty took precedent over any such coddling he sought to give. I had a family, and all the training to protect them.

When you were upset, where was your sanctuary?:  Within the shelter of my siblings, most often Ranya though she had little notice of it. It always puts the mind at ease to know those you are close to are safe.

What were you like in your teenage years?:  Silent, almost bookwormish. My body had yet to fully gain its strength as it does now so I spent much time in the library and providing little lessons to my siblings. While many were of close age, I tend to have a sense of insight that eases their lessons on complex subjects.

How close are you to your parents?:  
Father? I could hug him, or ask for gold or expensive clothes and weapons of unmatched steel. But I do not. He gives more than enough on his own, and his love of his adopted children is clear.

Do you have any trauma that haunts you?:  The… loss of Kahrem. I was there that night, the night the palace burned. I focused so hard upon the outer defenses, so certain that threats can only come from the outside. A foolish mistake. If I had been by my post… may- no. I could have gotten them to safety, I could have prevented a failing that scars us all. Amir most visibly. To see such a mirror of the fallen… Perhaps, is too little of a punishment.

What advice would you give your younger self?:  Focus upon your duty above all else, its better that way.

Were you an obedient child or defiant?:  Rather defiant, but mostly only cause of my siblings. But in that same note, also obedient. One can only follow someone so far when they break rules and law before they must do so as well in order to keep their safety.

What is your biggest regret?:  I hold no regrets, only sins and the punishment that comes after. 

Romance

Have you ever been in love? :  …Once. In a mansion upon a rainy hill. A rare visit from the Sultan to an influential family who could easily open up trade routes between Alidasht and Caesonia. It lasted several weeks of negotiations, and I found myself… charmed.

What is most important in a partner to you? Describe your dream partner.:  
It would be that woman. That sharp wit, that lovely hair, the crinkly in her eye as she stifled a laugh behind a gloved hand. 

How do you display affection? What is your love language?:  I... touch I suppose. The gentle fingers entwined, a hug where we share warmth, the simple act of rubbing shoulders as we pass…

Have you had your first kiss? What was it like?:  Surprising. Accidental more like. Almost something out of those romance novels. We both reached for something just out of reach and got entangled as we fell to the floor. I lost a tooth funnily enough, but the laughter and brush of lips afterwards numbed the pain. I did get it pushed back in and have not had further issue with it.

Do you believe in love at first sight? Why or why not?:  It can happen, It happened to me once. But one should not let such a thing lead to unrequited love or to force it, it must still bloom as a flower does.

What does marriage mean to you?:  To swear life, body, and soul to one another. Almost like I do to my dear siblings, just with a ring. And… things I would not do with them.

Are you currently crushing on anyone?:  …Is it a crush to wish for a reunion with a woman you shall likely never meet again?

Do you ever consider having children in the future?:  Of course, but it remains a consideration without a wife.

Personality

Describe your ideal Sunday morning:  An overcast morning that starts with a cup of tea and stretches. Small talk with mine siblings, a discussion with father, and the knowledge that they are healthy and happy to start their own days. 

 What kind of person do you aspire to be?:  The One I am, if perhaps with even more skills and watches.

What bad habits do you have?:  I… do not focus on myself as I do others. I often go longs times with no rest or even eating so focused am I on making sure another is safe. It is not an uncommon occurrence for me to sleep in odd places just close enough to wake quickly and respond to crisis or for one of the family to make me sit and eat with them instead of acting as their shadow.

If you could go back in time and change anything in your past, what would it be?:  I… I… I... would not have left that Manor behind. Not without…doing more. Beg my father to let me do more, put aside my own stoicism if for just a moment. 

What is your greatest fear?:  The loss of family of course. To fail in some way that is indubitably my fault, know that I have failed them all. 

What are your pet peeves?:   When a gear does not fit just right. Or when one of my siblings tries to pull another stunt or sneak out again without telling me first. By now they should know well enough I keep many of their secrets.

 When you are in a sour mood, do you like to be alone or with others?:  Others, certainly.

Are you more likely to fight with your fists or your tongue?: Fists, Blade, flintlock, shoes on one occasion. If I am to engage someone, it will likely be violent as they have threatened someone close. Or Someone close asked me to.

History Summary:
Young Lucian was a curious, playful young boy who loved to get into mischief, much like his other siblings. As one might expect, this mischief brought great stress to his mother, Rosa Camilia. With the kind of woman Rosa was, Lucian would often get lectured for his lack of self-preservation and thought. The young boy would leap before thinking, step before looking, and race his way into dangerous situations. It was enough to convince his mother she'd grow grey hairs before her 30s. 

His father, on the other hand, loved encouraging his son's sense of adventure. It was Alixandre who helped to foster Lucian's interest in reading. He loved the stories of adventure and daring, saving princesses from towers and exploring strange worlds. Often, he could be seen outside with his brother and sisters, roping them into his play. 

"I'm going to be the prince! And you, Sylvia will be the dragon." He'd call confidently as Sylvia smirked. She'd look over at Marnie with a glint in her eyes, obviously about to get up to mischief with her sister who would likely be playing the princess in this play. Askel, meanwhile, was more than happy to be the knight of the prince.

As Lucian grew into a man, he found himself well-read and well-rounded. He was trained in fencing and horse riding by his father while his mother encouraged painting as a hobby. She'd wanted to give him something that would allow him to express himself in a healthy way. Perhaps she also hoped it would help keep him soft and kind. He was also trained by his knight protector, Ambrose Thrane, who helped to temper some of Lucian's wilder tendencies.

When Lucian was 20, he asked his father's permission to marry his childhood friend, Sophia Thrane. She was not of high nobility and he knew the odds of receiving a yes were nigh impossible. His father, the kind man that he was, told him to wait. He'd have to discuss it with his mother. After many days, his mother finally came to him in his study. She had a stern look on his face, so he wasn't in high hopes. 

"Mother, before you begin, you must know-"

A simple wave of her hand silenced him. She had discussed it at length with his father and she knew the lengths her son would go to for love. She had no desire to lose any of her children, though she asked that Lucian strongly reconsider. He told her he had no plans to reconsider, his tone stern and without room for compromise. In response, Rosa asked that Lucian prove his love. She told him to wait for 2 months while she prepared a large banquet. 

Rosa invited as many women with the same build, hair color, and eye color as Lucian's first love as she could. She gave them all masks and asked them to remain as silent as they could through the night. Lucian's task was to find his true love among the rabble. If he could do that, his mother would approve. While she did that, Lucian went to work on next convincing her brother, Ambrose. While her brother had been hesitant, first using Lucian's title to dissuade him. But when he learned that Lucian had already begun to convince his parents, Ambrose reluctantly agreed on the condition that Lucian protect her with his life. Lucian agreed and the two swore on it.

Lucian found Sophia within 10 minutes of the party starting. He took Sophia to his mother, tears streaming down Sophia's face. Rosa smiled warmly and took both Lucian and Sophia's hand in hers. "Good man." was all she spoke. They were married 6 months later.

Several years later, near Sophia's 23rd birthday, Lucian was making preparations, along with his mother, to hold a banquet for her birthday. They'd found out several months ago that Sophia was expecting. After a few years of trying, the two nearly broke down into tears when the doctor confirmed it for them. That morning had been oddly cold, so he was heading out to check on her, a coat for her in his arms. His wife had an intense love for gardening and spend most of her time outside in the gardens. The rose bushes she'd planted a year or so prior had been her pride and joy. 

Something kept nagging at the back of Lucian's neck, like someone was watching him. It was a growing, nagging feeling in the gut of his stomach. It grew more intense with each passing moment as he wandered through the garden, calling for his wife. 

"Are you looking for me, Lucie?"

The tension that had wound him up seemed to expel all at once upon hearing her voice from the distance. He raced over, smiling as he spotted her. She had a look of confusion on her face. "What's wrong, my love?" She continued.

Suddenly, a black figure appeared behind Sophia and all of the tension Lucian had been feeling came rushing back like a vice grip. His breath caught in his throat. Sophi- He'd barely squawked out her name before it happened. It was like the world slowed down. His feet felt heavy like he couldn't move them, all he could do was watch in abject horror as he watched his beloved wife as she was ripped apart. 

He watched as her bones snapped, her skin sliced open, as something unseen dragged her now mangled body through the air. He reached, both hands swiping as if in slow motion. They made purchase with nothing as he stumbled forward. Sophia!! He screamed, stumbling and falling as he tried to race after her. 

To say the world went dark would have been an understatement. Lucian had lost his entire world that morning. Each morning after, he would wake and turn, expecting to see his wife, expecting her to smile at him and ask if he'd had a nightmare. But each morning, his bed was cold and empty. 

A few months after the attack, he ordered his servants to change his bed for something smaller. The king-sized bed they slept in felt like a frigid ocean. His parents didn't know what to do or how to comfort him. His mother was incensed, but had no recourse to calm her own anger. Anything she thought of doing felt like a lost cause. They had no leads. Ambrose refused to even acknowledge the young prince's existence. His siblings floundered as they tried to find ways to help him. There was even one night when Marnie came to see him and he yelled at her to leave. 

Lucian shut himself in his room most days, ordered drinks and medicine from the servants and doctors. Sleepless nights became commonplace for him, to the point of insomnia. He took whatever pills they were willing to give him that might help him sleep. He drank until it all went numb. There were times he could be seen roaming the halls, a drunken mess of a man as he called out for Sophia.

It wasn't until one night, when Lucian had finally fallen into a somewhat restful sleep, that he finally woke up. He dreamt of Sophia. She stood, just at the edge of his bed, positively glowing in angelic light. Her eyes were filled with a sorrow that Lucian knew all too well. 

After that dream, Lucian woke as if a renewed man. He was dressing each morning and ate, though still not very much. He trained with his sword and eventually sought out the help of the Vanguard. Not only would they help him defend his kingdom, but they would also help him defend his kingdom from magic-users. He works now as Killian Hale's apprentice, tracking, hunting, and killing magic-users.

When his parents send him to Caesonia to find a wife, they can't believe it when he actually agrees. Little do they know...

What were you like in your teenage years?: "I think I'd say I was a wild child, much like some of my siblings. I was naive and stupid, but my parents believed in me and my choices. I think it's thanks to them allowing me to learn on my own that I have become the man I am today, for however much that is worth."

Lucian will continue to pine for his lost love. Whichever woman that wishes to court him will have to contend for the ghost of his lost love. 

I, his writer, however am a complete sap for romance. When Lucian falls, he will fall hard and it will eat him alive out of guilt for his first wife. After all, who could ever have two soulmates? But, by god, will he love her. 

I am such a goblin for plots where there is a damsel in distress and the romantic partner who loses their goddamn mind trying to save them. Ranya was born after a dangerous pregnancy. The labor was so difficult that both she and her mother, Esrin, almost died. Though they survived, the experience left Sultan Raif shaken. He began to see Ranya as something precious and fragile, a child whose life felt borrowed from fate.

A few years later, when Esrin became pregnant again and both she and the newborn died during childbirth, Raif’s caution turned into full-blown protectiveness. Devastated and scared of losing the last child who resembled Esrin so closely, he confined Ranya to the palace. He ensured that only family could see her face.

He forbade her from claiming the throne and declared that any royal who harmed her would lose all rights to succession. He hoped fear would keep his other children from seeing her as a rival. He couldn’t see the flaw in his logic or how it could cause some to despise her while others adored her.

Despite this confining environment, Ranya found ways to carve out freedom. Did you grow up nurtured or neglected?: I was smothered. Every step I took was shadowed by guards, every meal tasted for poison, every gown woven with the weight of my father’s grief. I was nurtured like a relic in a museum, kept pristine, kept polished, and kept behind iron bars for "safekeeping."

When you were upset, where was your sanctuary?: The high, sun-baked ledges of the palace rooftops. My father thinks I am a fragile lily, meant to sit still in a vase, but he forgets that even the prettiest vine can strangle the pillars holding up the roof. Up there, the wind doesn't smell like my mother’s favorite perfumes, and for a moment, I am not a ghost’s reflection.

What were you like in your teenage years?: Restless. A caged bird that learned how to pick the lock with a hair pin. I spent those years perfecting the art of the serene smile while plotting exactly how many seconds it took the night watch to pass my balcony.

How close are you to your parents?: My mother is a memory of a scent, a soft laugh, and a face I see every time I look in the mirror which makes it impossible to forget her. My father... he doesn't love me. He thinks he does, but he loves the vision of her he’s projected onto me. His "love" is a chain. He guards me like a treasure he’s already lost once.

Do you have any trauma that haunts you?: The realization that my face is not my own. To see my father’s eyes fill with tears of longing when he looks at me–not for his daughter, but for his dead wife–is a special kind of hollow. And Hafiz... he watches the "Chosen" with a hunger that makes me want to set the palace ablaze and make sure he’s locked inside when I do. He is my uncle, but I get an uneasy feeling around him.

What advice would you give your younger self?: Stop trying to scrub her face off your own. Use the beauty they gave you as a weapon, Ranya. If they insist on looking at you, make sure it burns their eyes.

Were you an obedient child or defiant?: I was a master of theatrical obedience. I bowed low enough to hide the fire in my eyes, and I spoke softly so they wouldn't hear the grinding of my teeth.

What is your biggest regret?: That I didn't cut my hair or mar my face the moment I realized he was worshipping a ghost. It sounds cruel, doesn't it? But sometimes I wonder if I’d be freer if I were ugly. If I didn't look like her, he might have actually seen me.

Have you ever been in love?: I have felt the heat of attraction, the spark of a dangerous gaze... but love? Love requires freedom, and I have yet to be free.

It’s putting my head in your lap while Aisha and Azrael pace around us, or letting you see my hands shake after a long day of being 'Suna’s Chosen.' If I stop being a statue and allow myself to be fragile in your arms, you are more important to me than anything else.

Have you had your first kiss? What was it like?: It was a desperate, stolen thing in the shadows of the jasmine garden. It tasted of salt and the terrifying realization that I wanted more than the heavens were supposed to allow.

Do you believe in love at first sight?: I believe in recognition. Sometimes you see a soul and realize they are the same brand of "broken" or "rebellious" as you are.

What does marriage mean to you?: To the court, it’s a treaty. To my father, it’s a way to ensure my "safety" forever. To me? It sounds like the final turn of a key in a lock, unless I choose the hand that holds the key.

Do you ever consider having children in the future?: Only if I am far from Alidasht. I won't bring a daughter into a world where she is a pawn on a shatranj board before she can even walk. And a son born here would be molded into a sword for men’s ambitions. I will not bear children just to give the crown more toys to play with.

Describe your ideal Sunday morning: Being woken up by the tigers' rough tongues instead of a maid's whisper. We’d spend the dawn climbing the jagged rocks behind the palace, reaching the summit just to watch the sun rise over a horizon I’m actually allowed to cross.

What kind of person do you aspire to be?: I aspire to be a woman defined by her own scars and her own victories, rather than a daughter valued only for a face she didn't choose.

What bad habits do you have?: I am dangerously curious. I also have a tendency to test people and to push them until I see their true colors. And I perhaps enjoy the scent of danger a little too much.

If you could go back in time and change anything in your past, what would it be?: I would have run the night the priests first declared me 'Chosen.' I would rather have been a common thief than a golden idol.

What is your greatest fear?: Living my entire life as a decorative piece of furniture. Being "kept safe" until I die of boredom and stagnation. Also, whatever is burning inside me. Something slumbers and it scares me.

What are your pet peeves?: People who tell me to "be careful." Guards who stand too close. The way the priests talk as if they have a direct line to the gods' ears.

When you are in a sour mood, do you like to be alone or with others?: I want the company of certain siblings as they are the only ones who know the real Ranya…or I want the silence of Azrael and Aisha. Everyone else’s "comfort" feels like a performance.

History Summary // 
Maryam was an obedient and rule-abiding child. She rarely ventured out of her comfort zone, opting to stand only with what she knew. 
When Ranya was born, she could only think that it was her fault their mother had passed. With her nearly identical appearance it was hard for the young Maryam to not place blame. 
Like many other children, she had begun to feel envy and anger. Maryam never spoke her mind, for it was feared that it would only cause more division. On her own, she devoted her time to what she enjoyed best: the pursuit of knowledge.
Her tutors applauded and praised her ethic, and inevitably she felt the opposite; as if nothing would be enough. She was aware of the reason Ranya was so sheltered, and yet still held a grudge.

Marina is probably one of the most stubborn girls you'll ever meet.

Incredibly ambitious and motivated, she keeps her eye on the goal and charges at it like a berserker. As a child, she was endlessly restless: quick to laugh, quicker to talk, and forever climbing something she wasn’t supposed to. Then she changed in her tween years. Since then, Marina hated being alone. She always drifted toward Lucian, Askel or Sylvia, “accidentally” ending up wherever they were. She’d want to sleep in their bedrooms (even on the floor), linger in hallways, and fill silence with chatter just to keep the walls from feeling too close.

To this day, she's bold, witty, and certain of herself. Marnie's known to be sassy and even cheeky at times. She can be a bit of an outspoken hothead at times, and even sometimes a brat, stomping off to her room when she doesn't win an argument. However, underneath the bravado is a deeply compassionate girl who attaches fiercely to the people she loves. Lucian, Askel and Sylvia sit at the center of that devotion. She's always been rather sweet on those she cares about and extremely thoughtful. Not to mention, she has a deep love for adventure and new experiences. Marina loves to make others laugh and gets a kick out of playing pranks, especially on Sylvia.

For years, Marina was a source of sunshine energy in the Camilia family.  

Then Sophia died. 

The bubbly noise softened into something quieter. She still laughs, still jokes when the moment calls for it — but there’s a weight behind her eyes now. History Summary:
Princess Marina Camilia was born one of the middle children to Queen Rosa and King Alixandre. From the start, she was a spitfire—full of passion and a curiosity far beyond her years. She trailed after Lucian and Sylvia with bright chatter, restless energy, and a fierce eagerness to belong wherever her siblings were. Lucian was the brave, strong big brother she idolized and followed like a little duckling, Askel was the sweet brother she loved to spend time with, and Sylvia was her favorite little sister, whom she doted on endlessly.

However, her view of the world cracked early.

Her best friend had been one of the kitchen boys, one of many homeless children King Alixandre had taken in. His name was Cecil, and for years he had been one of her very best friends. It was always him, Marina, Sophia, Lucian, Askel, Sylvia, Ambrose, and sometimes Lady Mina Blackwood in their little circle.

Marnie had trusted him completely.

Then one day, when they were twelve, he led her into the woods and turned on her without warning. His hands closed around her throat and he nearly killed her before someone else intervened. Marina survived, but the betrayal lodged itself deep. She never understood why, and she never saw Cecil again.

Marina never told anyone, either.

After that, silence unnerved her. Closed doors made her palms sweat. She clung to her siblings with a desperation she disguised as enthusiasm. Even so, she improved as she grew into her teens. She and Lucian spent much of their time with Sophia, whom Marina still insists to this day must have been an angel sent from the heavens.

Years later, Lucian took an interest in Sophia and married her. Sophia’s presence softened the palace, and Lucian’s happiness gave Marina the impression (despite her own strong feelings) that everything was exactly where it ought to be.

Then the day came when everything broke. Marina did not see how Sophia died; she only remembered Lucian’s scream and following it to the sight of what remained of their beloved girl. The grief hollowed her out. She carried a heavy, private guilt.

And Lucian hardened. He shut her out, even as Marina tried again and again to reach him. She changed in her own way, too. When she wasn’t trying to cheer Lucian up, she trained with the knights, learning to wield a sword and defend herself. Even when she was barely trained, she began sneaking out in disguise at night to pick fights with criminals—not out of rebellion, but to teach herself how to face monsters like the one who had taken Sophia. To protect her family.

Her first intervention was a drunken noble cornering a maid. The second was a carriage transporting girls for reasons she did not want to know. Each time, Marina stepped in. Each time, she felt something inside her that was steadier than fear.

A few rumors began to spread about a hooded figure. It never became anything famous, but some in Breoven whispered of a protector who sabotaged cruelty in the dark. They called her the Lantern of Breoven, because she brought light into the shadows.

Marina never claimed the stories. In her early years, she was sloppy in her work and lost more fights than she won, stumbling into more than one traumatic situation—all in the name of becoming someone worthy enough to protect the people she loved, and the kingdom she loved.

But she was not the only one with a secret. She knew Lucian was hiding something, and he grew harder and harder to reach.

When their parents decided to send Lucian to Caesonia for the Courting Season, there was no chance Marina would let her beloved brother go alone. Over her dead body would he face anything alone ever again. Not only because Marina loved him, but because Sophia had loved him too.

Personality Summary
Sylvia is a fountain of endless energy and boundless curiosity that often puts her at odds with those more laid-back or reserved. She is not one to mince words and often will speak her mind if the situation demands it. Sylvia was nothing less than a little, chaotic monster that prowled the halls of the castle. She certainly made the servants work for their coin with her antics, but she would also freely apologize and offer gift. Her interests changed quickly during those times, but she always put maximum effort into them. It was hard to know exactly what the little terror of a princess would get up too, but whatever she did Sylvia would try to make up for whatever wrong she caused in her own ways.

Growing up, She favored her older sister Marina quite strongly and would often be seen following her around the castle when she wasn't up to her usual mischief. Marina was usually the target of her love of pranks, always trying to get one over her. Lucian was the next closest she was too but for a different reason all together. Sylvia thought and still thinks that Lucian is pinnacle of what it means to be a Prince and likes to think of herself as one of his greatest supporters...even if she sometimes puts small firecrackers in his carriages. She often regrets being a little terror to Sophia during their first meetings. Sylvia had just been ready to accept her as a proper older sister when it happened.

Her brother Askel suffered a different kind of attention from Sylvia. His pursuit of the ideals and values of knighthood make her incredibly proud to the point she flaunts his chivalrous personage to anyone who seems mildly interested, women in particular. The older he got the more she grew concerned about his love life and now actively supports him in finding the one. The same about Askel can't be said for their family's stalwart guardian Ambrose. As perhaps the most vulnerable, Sylvia is quite used to his company and loves to bombard him with endless topics of conversation and gossip with a bright smile. She still does small pranks on him, but they could be called silly rather than intrusive or disruptive. 

Whereas Lucian might have grown out of his troublesome youth, Sylvia has yet to shake off the over-the-top playfulness that often lands her in the crosshairs of those lacking her sense of humor. It wasn't until she met the old hermit that her life began to take a significant turn. 

She met the hermit on one of her many secret journeys from the castle, finding within a dilapidated tower in the deep woods. It was there he showed her the most wondrous of sights and told her the best stories. Sylvia could tell the old man had been lonely for some time and she could see the genuine happiness her visit brought to him. So she made it more of a habit.

Sylvia began sneaking out of the castle enough that some began to suspect she was having some secret rendezvous. She was, but not in the way they thought. They talked to each other about everything. He was her favorite person to vent to besides her siblings, only because she could complain about them too. The reveal that he had been an old wizard didn't even scare her off and she in-fact wanted to learn more. He felt like a grandfather to her, after all.

All of it came to a brutal end one stormy night when she went to visit him. His tower was in the worst state she had ever saw it and the beautiful garden that surrounded it had been ripped up and ruined. Sylvia, fearless as she could be, entered the tower worried about her dear old friend. It was the first time she saw someone so wounded and so much blood. The lighting strikes barely help illuminate the dark room but the faint light from the small candles gave her enough vision.

The old hermit was slouched against the wall barely breathing. A strange pattern etched into the wooden floor and marked with blood. She could hear the barest mumbling about family, a daughter or granddaughter.  Sylvia held a small hope he was referring to her but the sad, apologetic look in his eyes filled with a grim determination chilled her bones. A pain she had never felt before crawled through her skin and compounded in her heard. It felt as if some force was trying to rip her in half starting from the top.

It wasn't until the next morning that she woke, a damp cold clinging to her as she managed to collect her thoughts. A pounding headache made it hard to think. There was a burning rage that she felt deep in her chest when she saw the dead body of the hermit, beyond any anger she had ever felt before. She had always heard about those who had hunted people who wielded strange powers. He hadn't done anything wrong, so why?!? Sylvia felt as confused as she was angry.

The old hermit was buried in the dug up garden. Sylvia didn't know what else she could do for him. Tears were already spilling down her cheeks when something did spark in her mind. An idea that she didn't know exactly where she came up with it. This was an injustice. A wrongful execution. She would just have to punish those responsible. That would make the world a better place. Sylvia left that clearing in the wood with an all too sweet smile that day.

Ambrose Thrane is grumpy. There's just no way to sugar coat it. A fortress of discipline and quiet fury, Ambrose speaks bluntly, often harshly with bite softened only by exhaustion and the faintest traces of buried emotion. His presence can cold, withdrawn, and deeply controlled, yet behind the armor is someone who has never stopped grieving for his sister. 

Duty is the spine of his identity, at least on paper. If Ambrose swears to protect someone, he will do so with unshakeable resolve, even if he resents them, even if it kills him. Nothing will stand between him and his oaths.

His relationship with Lucian is a tangled snarl of grief, bitterness, and obligation. Ambrose blames him for Sophia’s death...and blames himself twice as much for not being there. Despite that, he guards Lucian with suffocating vigilance. Duty does not bend, even under the weight of heartbreak.

Marina and Sylvia bring out the few remaining gentle parts of him. They exhaust him with their antics, but they remind him painfully of Sophia, and he is fiercely protective of both.

Ambrose embodies the ideal Varian knight: relentless, unwavering, shaped by the hard life of a commoner who earned their spot. Beneath the armor is a man who is still trying to atone for a loss he believes he could have prevented if only he were there, and who now shields the royal children with every battered piece of himself that remains.

History Summary:
Ambrose & Sophia Thrane grew up under the iron rule of a brutal father, a man who blamed the death of his wife on their daughter, Sophia. Their childhood was a gauntlet of violence, shaping Ambrose into a soldier long before he held a title. It was King Alixandre who first saw the boy beneath the bruises and carved out a place for him in the palace guard. In many ways, the king became more of a father to Ambrose than his own ever was.

Ambrose excelled rapidly, rising into the king’s trusted special operations unit. But everything in his life revolved around his younger sister Sophia, the only gentle thing in his world. When Lucian Camilia asked for her hand, Ambrose sought a single promise: that Lucian would protect her as fiercely as he did.

Ambrose was gone on special assignment by the king when his sister was murdered. He returned to Sophia’s corpse and Lucian’s broken promise.

The grief hollowed him...but his rage was worse. It became problematic. He blamed Lucian for failing her, and himself more for being gone. Their relationship has never recovered. When he looks at the Prince he once thought of as his brother, all he sees is another man who failed Sophia.

When Alixandre accepted his request to be appointed as guard the royal children, Lucian included, Ambrose swore himself to the task despite his disdain for Lucian. Duty is duty, even when it cuts deep, and this new oath would be his way of honoring Sophia's memory. 

Marina and Sylvia slowly became the last soft spots left in his heart, echoes of Sophia he will protect until his dying breath.

Now, as the Briarknight, a name he earned for his thorny and relentless presence on and off the battlefield, Ambrose stands as shield, sentinel, and penance to the Camilia siblings as they travel to Sorian.

However, should he be forced into a situation where he must dress up, typically at his mother's behest, then at the very least, he will dress whatever is fashionable within reason and as long it doesn't suffocate him.

Personality Summary:

The first word that come to mind when describing Askel is unwavering; he knew exactly what he wanted to be as a child and knew what it was going to take to do it. His ambition to becomes a knight is what drives him forward, to protect Varian and her people for his love of his kingdom is great. Askel has a strong sense of justice and fairness, always trying to look at people and their circumstances rather than make assumptions of their character. If there is someone in trouble, then he is there to protect them even if it may cost him his life. He is uncompromising in his beliefs and unflinching, marching ever forward even when tragedy breaks his heart.

While one would assume to be a humorless hard ass with a single-minded focus, that is far from the case. Askel is warm, kind, and fun-loving man with a sharp wit. He greets many with a smile and lends an ear to whoever needs it. He cannot deny that he loves to adventure and experience new things as he will describe it innate to being human though that may be due to his curious nature. Despite his accomplishments, he is humble and downplays them, saying that it's what any knight would do.

However, no one should make the mistake him to be naive. He has seen things, things that he would dare not wish to share in half-hearted conversation, but he chooses to go forward. His own hands are certainly not clean though that is a burden he is willing to accept. That and he has a very keen mind so one should not expect to pull one over him so easily, unless they're family then somehow, they always do. 

He holds a great deal of love for his family and those that he considers family. However, he can't help, but feel that he neglected them to a degree.

History Summary:

It was very obvious what Askel wanted to be when he was a child. Whenever he played pretend, he was always a knight, never the king or some other role. The affairs of princes and nobles were not of much interest to him nor did the power that came from his position. What his parents saw was a boy with an incredible sense of justice and determination, something they encouraged though not without their own worries. 

When it came to his family, it was a given that he loved and cherished them. He respected Lucian's free spirit and the ability to follow his heart though there were times that he wished he practiced self-preservation with him being the crowned prince. Askel was also a frequent target for the pranks of his little sisters and even when he knew better, he would fall for their schemes because his guard was always down around them. However, he found himself spending less time with them, not out of lack of interest, but because how much his training demanded of him. 

While others were satisfied with basic training, Askel kept pushing forward. When he was a teen, his parents put him under the tutelage Ambrose Thrane and served under the knight as his squire. Now Ambrose thought very little of the prince, just some brat that was comfortably off that would crack under the smallest bit of hardship and he certainly held no punches when it came to Askel's training. The thing was that no matter what Ambrose put him through, Askel not only refused to give up, but thrived under him. Overtime, as much as Ambrose the grump would refuse to admit, they formed a strong brotherly bond and by then formed a strong bond with Ambrose's sister as well, Sophia.

Sophia with Lucian in tow would frequently visit her brother and during those times Aksel would spend whatever short respites he had with them. Askel loved Sophia, she was like another sister to him and encouraged him as he tirelessly worked himself to the bone. When he learned that Lucian and she were to wed he leapt for joy to not only have her to be part of his family, but Ambrose, his best friend and mentor, to be part of it too. 

It was around the same that time that Askel was knighted and while a joyous day, he was not satisfied. It was then made a decision; he would become a knight-errant. He implored his mother and father to let him go on a journey. He believed that he could not learn to be a knight in the safety and luxury of his home, with nobles sneaking out pretending to be impoverished, or with books or teachers telling him what the real world was like. He implored his family to let him explore the kingdom and perhaps neighboring kingdoms because a knight's loyalty is to the king and queen and by extension, their subjects. How could he serve as a knight if there was a barrier between him and their subjects? How could he serve them if he was ignorant of the world?

They saw his earnestness and knew that he could not be dissuaded. There was no doubt that he would leave with or without their permission. With their blessing, Askel left Breoven to venture out into the greater world with only a horse and whatever equipment he could carry. It was not a blissful adventure, however. His journey was fraught with challenge and with horrors that he would not dare utter casually, but at the same time he saw things that made the journey all the more worth it; vast vistas painted by the setting sun, the warmth and generosity of common folk that barely had any for themselves, mountains piercing clouds that rolled like glacial drifts or coursing like raging rivers while lightning flashed behind. 

During his journey Askel would perform many great deeds, helping those in need while slaying those that had wickedness in their hearts. At times his goals would align with other groups such as mercenaries, but he was also just as likely to clash with them should he find reason to quarrel with them. His accomplishments would begin to spread and with each deed he became more beloved and with each challenge he faced he only grew stronger as his renown grew and yet, he never grew arrogant. 

At some point he had received a letter with the most wonderful news; Sophia was expecting. Askel decided that he would return home with the hopes that he would be there before the baby would be born. It was supposed be a moment celebration, but he then received another letter from his family that rushed him back to Breoven as quickly as he could. When he returned, Sophia was dead and Lucian and Ambrose, his two precious brothers were hollow shells of who they once were. 

Askel decided to stay and would watch over the family that he felt that he had neglected while journeying as a knight-errant though a pall was cast over the castle though he always remained strong. In some ways he felt like he had to be a rock, someone that they could rely on. It was only fair after being away for so long. Perhaps that was why he was so compliant he was told to attend the Courting Season in Caesonia's capital. However, he was pulled to the side by his parents and asked something else of him, to go to Caesonia not as a knight or as a prince, but as Lucian's brother and help him have a good time and have a good time himself too. 

It was a request that he could not refuse.
