Okay then...
1) You don't need to
be of the Death Guard, only swear allegiance to them and Mortarion - due to them being the first
true Plague Marines. Likewise, if he were already part of another Chapter/Legion (I guess this from his history) then he'd not be a member of the Death Guard.
2) Thirty-five years old? So he's essentially a baby Astartes then? There is no way he'd be what he is and in the position he is in after only thiry-five years.
3) Former Guardsmen? The Astartes don't recruit from the Guard.
4) If you're trying to go for a 'not-fully-plagued' marine, then there's no way he'd look like that picture.
That's my quick and general summary thus far.

5) He isn't a Plague Marine; Plague Marines are those who have been truly blessed by Papa Nurgle, are rotten as all Hell, and have sworn allegiance to Mortarion. He could well be a Marine devoted to Nurgle, seeking his favour and hoping to
become a Plague Marine, but until that point - a point from which he cannot return - he's just another Marine...albeit one who can withstand punishment/pain and smells a lot.
