The forest, despite or even because of its poisonous nature, was teeming with life. The pools of acid and the toxic plants should have meant that the area was death for any form of life foolish enough to wander inside, a danger Henrietta was very aware of, but Pokémon, as always, could be found anywhere. Zubats in the trees, Wurmple in the undergrowth and Gloom in the flowers; the Poison Pokémon who made this island their home were thriving, flourishing even, and could be seen anywhere the young trainer looked.
It was the Nidoran that caught her attention the most however. Henrietta had come into this forest with the intention of training, yes, testing her Pokémon against the same Poison-type Pokémon that the first Gym leader would be using against her and the other challengers, but she was also thinking further ahead, towards the team she would use moving forward. A Nidoking or Nidoqueen was be a strong addition to her Ground-type team and Arsenic island was the perfect place to find the Poison-type Pokémon.
Reaching for her belt, Henrietta retrieved a Pokeball and tossed it lightly to the forest floor. The device split open and released a burst of light which coalesced into the four-legged shape of her Mudbray, Atlas, the donkey-like Pokémon looking around curiously as it dug at the ground with his front hooves. Pointing towards the Nidoran staring in her direction, Henrietta directed her Pokémon’s attention towards them as she gave her order. “Atlas, prepare for battle.”
The Ground-type Pokémon stamped his feet on the soft, loamy dirt of the forest floor, braying and making noise as he tried to sound as aggressive as a small donkey could in the face of a herd of Nidoran. Which ones would run and which ones would stay and fight the aggressor? Henrietta was looking for one with a little spirit.
The Corviknight touched down at the Port of Arsenic Island, its powerful wings kicking up a fierce gale as it came in for the final landing, slowing its descent so as not to disturb the passenger riding on its back for this final stage of the journey. As the Flying-type came to a stop, said passenger hopped down from the Flying Taxi and surveyed her surroundings with a small, coy smile. She paid no mind as a handler for the company that ran the Flying Taxi service came over and took the Corviknight away, its job now complete as it had finished the half-day journey from Brittanium city to the isolated island.
If Henrietta had a mind to look at the people standing around she would have seen them looking back at her, paying attention to her; people rarely came here unless they had a purpose, this out of the way island occupied mostly by forest an inhabited by hosts of poisonous Pokémon. For most of the year that meant very few people used the ferry or arrived by taxi at all, the exception being that period where the Pokémon League was in full swing and trainers showed up in large numbers to challenge the gym.
With the change to how things worked this year, the gyms now to be challenged in a specific order, aspiring trainers would descend upon this island en masse to challenge this, the first gym. The people who lived and worked here were probably prepared for it, realising ahead of time what the change meant, but they probably didn’t expect the challengers to arrive so soon, barely half a day after the opening ceremony had finished. Henrietta wondered how many trainers would do as she did, hailing a Flying Taxi as soon as she was able to after leaving the ceremony and flying directly to her first destination with no hesitation at all?
Perhaps it would have been more fun to take the scenic route, to take her time traversing the well-worn path from Brittanium City to Brass Town, maybe take a look at the Silumin Reserve before taking the ferry to Arsenic Island a few days before the challenge began. But taking the slow and leisurely path simply wasn’t Henrietta’s style; she had a goal in mind, a purpose to achieve and a plan of action that all led her here, so why should she waste time? The forest was before her and she had a week to prepare for the challenge the Poison Gym Leader would give her; Henrietta had a very clear image in mind of how best to do so.
Hitching her bag higher on her shoulder, Henrietta walked towards the edge of the port and found the path that would lead her towards the centre of the island and the greenhouse/gym. Before reaching that destination however the trainer left the path, ducking into the trees and into the wilder areas of the island.
It was time to see what her Pokémon and her battling style could do against what this island had to offer.
So many Greeks. You guys are making me want to use my Greek Archer, who was also a companion of Artemis, so that he, Atalanta and Cyrene can argue over who was her favourite.
I'm interested in this as well. I'll tentatively put myself forward for an Assassin at the moment, but that depends on whether the person I have in mind works out or not.
If all else fails I have several other sheets on hand for whatever classes are available.
“Church…” Joseph latched on to that one word from the man’s answer, the term and everything it brought to mind enough to jog his memory. He had been sick and, knowing how serious that particular illness could be, he had sought out the Healing Church for a cure; however that didn’t how he ended up here exactly, everything after that decision was a blank and the path leading from that decision to here was unknown.
Surrounded by cots occupied by screaming individuals, in a place that didn’t have the look of a reputable clinic, with small and monstrous creatures lurking everywhere he looked. ‘Becoming a Hunter’, was that what the man had said? Was that what all these people were here for, why there was a barrel of weapons behind the other man? That didn’t make any sense. It didn’t explain why he was here, why the rest were here, and not somewhere run by the Church. Not unless there had been some mix up. “That… I was only here for healing. I was sick. Not to be a Hunter.”
He moved to get off of the cot, the Messengers moving out of his way as he swung his legs over the edge and hopped off. His legs were shaky as his feet touched the ground and he found himself grabbing the edge of the next cot over as they struggled to support his weight; his strength returned quickly, mercifully, and he stepped away from the beds to stand in the aisle between the rows. “Is there someone from the Church here? A doctor? Anyone?”
As much as the girl seemed to be struggling with the climb, she jumped to her feet quickly enough when she heard his voice. She turned to face him, the height difference somewhat mitigated but not erased by the fact she stood on a higher step, and reassured him that she wasn’t in trouble at all, but instead showing off her physical prowess to the passing students. Watching as she held up one skinny arm as proof, Ji-Ho raised an eyebrow as he wondered what to do in the face of such a bald-faced lie.
“Well… you’ll be late if you don’t get to class soon.” Ignoring it, he decided, was the best response. Turning away from the girl Ji-Ho began to climb the steps again, walking slowly enough that he wouldn’t leave the girl behind if she decided to follow. It definitely wasn’t because his legs were tired.
Personality: Above all else Henrietta is someone who always seems to display a level of quiet confidence. There is self-assuredness to the way she moves and the way she conducts herself which is displayed in the straightness of her posture, the tilt of her chin and the little knowing smile she often wears; she has a certain poise to her that is hard to describe until you see it for yourself. She has a composure that rarely breaks; Henrietta is good at only letting her face show what she wants it to show, putting on a stoic demeanour that hides her true feelings which can make it hard to tell what she’s feeling or thinking at a given moment.
Henrietta is driven by an aggressive determination which pushes her to move forward no matter who or what is in her way, something which is apparent both in the way she battles and the way she interacts with others. She has a forceful personality and isn’t easily swayed by others; once she has set her mind to something there is little that can divert her unless she makes that decision herself and she has a bad habit of ignoring the concerns or needs of others.
Biography: A Kalos native, Henrietta was born and raised in the city of Cyllage where her mother worked in the city’s boutique while her father was a trainer at the Pokémon Gym. She inherited traits from both of her parents; her poise and bearing came from her mothers, her love of Pokémon and battling came from her father and her confidence and determination came from them both equally.
Henrietta was always around Pokémon from a young age due to her father’s work and also because her mother also raised Pokémon of her own. She always wanted to become a trainer someday, a fact that she didn’t keep secret from anyone, and it was always a question of when, not if, she would begin her journey. Her parents were supportive of the idea, but they always expected her to travel the Kalos region for a few years before becoming a gym trainer like her father or even a gym leader someday; when it became apparent that Henrietta wanted to travel the world, see every region and not just Kalos, they were less supportive.
After much arguing and persuasion a deal was eventually struck where Henrietta would be allowed to travel if and only if she could prove herself a capable trainer; one who would be able to manage travelling by herself where he parents wouldn’t be able to easily bail her out of difficulties. Her parents gave her an egg at the age of fourteen and tasked her with hatching, raising and training the Pokémon by herself. The egg soon hatched into a Mudbray and Henrietta began raising and training the Pokémon to prove herself to her parents.
She soon caught another Pokémon and once she was satisfied that they were both strong enough she began battling as many of the local trainers as she could and defeating them. She seemed to be a natural at battling and although her parents tried to delay as much as possible they couldn’t deny that Henrietta had met their conditioned. They eventually relented and gave her their support to begin her travels, even gifting her another Pokémon egg to help her build up her team.
The first step on her journey would be the Chromis region. Her goal; the International League.

Like Jackie, Ji-Ho was a new arrival in Death City; newly arrived and newly enrolled in the Demon-Weapon Meister Academy as a student. His acceptance came as a surprise to his parents, but not to himself; he always knew he would make it in, it was only a question of when and the answer to that question was now. All that was left was to find a partner or, more likely, convince everyone that he didn’t need a partner and then he would be on his way to becoming a Death Scythe.
He had gotten up bright and early that morning, eager and excited to start his first day on a high note, only to run into the same obstacle that every new student had to surmount before they could enter the school proper; stairs. The school towered over the rest of the city, perched atop a set of stairs that put some mountains to shame in that could only have been put there to be a test of their student’s determination and perseverance. Ji-Ho was trudging up those stairs now, sweating in the early morning Nevada sun as he pushed himself to make it to the top.
That he was having difficulty with the climb at all was something of an annoyance, especially when he could see several other students ahead of him making the same climb with no apparently difficulty at all. There was, however, at least one person struggling even more than he was.
There was a girl crawling up the steps of the school.
Ji-Ho stopped when he reached the girl, definitely not taking any opportunity for a quick rest as he watching the girl clawing at the next step up in an attempt at progress. “Hey, need a hand?”
