Kinda, I do have a character in mind, I'm just not sure what to do about the deck, honestly. I'm not sure where to begin building deck with the ruleset you've linked. I'm not sure I fully get link and XYZ
XYZ - 2 or more monsters of the same level. Monsters used for the summon become "material" that can be detached to activate effects.
Link - Use monsters equal to the Links "Link rating" to summon them. All non-Link monsters are treated as 1 for the rating, Links can be treated as either 1 or their own Link rating; e.g. 2 non-Links to make a Link-2, 3 non-Links to make a Link-3. A Link-3 plus a non-Link can make a Link-4 or a Link-2. Links can only be summoned to the Extra Monster zone or a zone pointed to by a Link monster.
Personality: A wanderer at heart, Claire likes to think of herself as the type of person who doesn’t stick around one place for too long, but who leaves lots of memories and stories in her wake. She tries to be assertive and confident with people she hasn’t met, forward and hopefully with an easy charm that makes people like her. She tries to pursue what she wants, not letting the opinions and concerns of others hold her back and hopes that it comes across as decisive rather than selfish.
Enigmatic; or at least she wants to be. Claire knows more about the people around her than they know about her and that is entirely intentional; part of it is asking questions, being friendly and getting people to talk about themselves, but it is also a deliberate desire to be secretive and dodge any return questions, but in a teasing way that plays up the mystery around herself. The ties in to Claire’s aloof nature; she had an easy time dealing with other people socially, but prefers to avoid attachments. She doesn’t keep friendships, at least not for long ad tries to keep her distance from people.
History: Claire is a normal girl from a relatively small town in the Northern prefectures of Japan. As a kid she was fond of sports, very energetic and had more in common with the boys her age than the girls, but as she got older and her friends started to take their sports more seriously she drifted away from them. Instead she developed more of an interest in nerdy hobbies and took a liking to sci-fi, fantasy and anime; in particular she became interested in the game of Duel Monsters after watching the shows in middle school. Luckily, her school had a club for the game that was fairly popular and after playing a few games with a borrower deck she started buying packs and made her own. As you’d expect from a first attempt, it was pretty bad and she lost a lot of game, but her new friends were helpful and helped her to improve both the deck and as a player and she ended up becoming pretty good at the game; one of the best in her small town at least.
Aside from the card game, after moving to high school Claire developed an interest in engines and mechanics; particularly motorcycles, something inspired by the fact that the older brother of one of her friends had bought and was repairing an old motorcycle in their garage. The fact that she had a crush on the brother had nothing to do with it, she swears. Clair offered to help him, despite not knowing anything about it at the time, and although it started as an excuse to spent time with him, she developed a genuine interest in the subject.
As a teen, Clair started to have strange dreams; dreams about monsters and things in the shadows that were sinister and malicious. At first they were like regular nightmares, indistinct and scary, but over time they became clearer; clear enough that she began to recognise some of the monsters in her dreams as coming from the game of Duel Monsters. She thought nothing of this, dismissing them as the product of an over active imagination, until she started to see things in real life too. Shadows out of the corner of her eye that were gone when she turned to look, silhouettes in the dark that might have been something inhuman, bumps in the night that no one else heard. The nightmares continued to wear away at her and now it seemed like they had followed her to the waking world too, something she knew she could never tell anyone.
Not without being called crazy.
It all culminated in one night, a couple of weeks after her graduation from high school, when one of her nightmares decided to show themselves to her, plain as day, as she was walking home one night. Claire tried to ignore it, it wasn’t real after all, monsters couldn’t be real, but when it came close enough that she could feel its breath on her face, smell the musk of its body and its claws pricking her skin? It had to be real.
Claire ran that night. Ran all the way home, to gather her belongings and what money she could and her Duel Monster deck for some instinctive reason and packed her bags. She ran to her friend’s house, to their garage, and let herself in with a spare key to take the motorcycle she had helped rebuild. She ran to the open road on a stolen bike without telling anyone where she was going, in fear of the monsters that had been stalking her for years by this point and who no longer seemed content to staying in the shadows.
Also, bragging rights for the first person who can identify all the original characters I reference in the original post! I like to think I made it obvious, but here's a hint:
We're using the latest ban list, including limited and semi limited, I included a link for that too. Regarding the "advanced or traditional" question, I have to admit I don't know what you're talking about. I posted a link to the latest banlist, and I'm not aware of any different versions outside of updates and different formats.
"Traditional" is having all the forbidden cards at limited instead, basically. It could be interesting, in that it could power up archetypes that would otherwise be weak played pure by giving them cards banned for other decks sins (I can be trusted with Electrumite, I promise), but it's up to you.
Oh, where is this RP set by the way? I know it's Old Domino City, but what country? Not-Japan or Not-America?
“Please don’t just appear behind me. That’ll just startle me more.” Or at least give her more reason to panic, because the person that just appeared out of nowhere was also in her blind spot. Jessica wasn’t sure teleporting the contents of a confetti cannon into her face was all that much better either.
Hell, was there any way to make suddenly appearing in someone’s personal space not alarming? “Maybe just… appear behind me but like, give me a second to realise your there with my power? I’ll feel you arrive, I’m pretty sure, so just don’t sudden shout out and it should be fine.”
Tandem had all kinds of ideas for her power, including things that Jessica had never even considered. Really, rats? They were both teleporters, though the younger girl could do way more than just teleport, so maybe this was stuff that Tandem had already thought of for her own power. Or maybe she was just really good at this sort of thing; now that she had a moment to look around, she could see that other Tandem’s were talking to some of the other new Wards in the room. Asking them about their powers too?
“Yeah, probably best not to dive into burning buildings; good of you to try though.” Brave and reckless. Good kid. Still the most normal one here, too. “I could find people, yeah, even teleport to them. But I can’t take anyone with me when I do that, so I’d have to lead them out myself. I’d probably be able to tell the rescuers were to look though; coordinate things from outside?” That was something to consider. She would have to talk to Axiom or someone about that later; maybe she could volunteer to be on call for the fire department or something, when they need to do that sort of work.
“My power only works on people, as far as I can tell. At least, I can only tell where people are with my… whatever sense. Otherwise I’d be able to feel every rat and bug in this building right now and that, urgh, being able to sense insects must be the worse power. Like, I know every building is full of bugs, but if I could feel them too? All the time? I’d never feel clean anywhere I went.”
Did her power affect things she carried? It definitely affected the things she wore, but whether it extended further than that she didn’t know. Her power testing so far had been focused on learning the basic limits of her power and getting used to using them alongside her basic training; two months, yada yada, it wasn’t enough time to really dive into it. It was a good idea though; they could test her invincibility by shooting at a sheet of paper she was holding rather than at her, or she could try breaking a stick over a training dummy’s head. “Good idea!”
It looked like Tandem was going to say something else, but then someone Jessica only vaguely recognised as being someone important stepped into the room and grabbed all of their attention. “A bank robbery?” By powered mercenaries? Wait, that didn’t sound like something small time. Wouldn’t something like that be done by one of the bigger name villain groups? It was literally her first day, what the fuck?

Power level is always going to be a tricky one with these and some effects just don't work well for RP purposes; aiming for Arc-V is fine but don't be afraid to buff or nerf people as appropriate.
It was a surprisingly nerve-wracking experience to have Shamar look over her work, running her practiced eye over the pelts she had scrapped, salted, washed and combed to see if she had done anything wrong. She had spent the better part of an afternoon on this, after all, and had the cuts and scrapes and muscle ache to show for it.
Akeno knew her work wouldn’t be perfect, not on the first try, and maybe that would be enough for the hunter to try and scam her; to say that her effort was inadequate and to give her nothing in return. All she could do was hope that the other Orc was fair and that her work met her standards. A good job her meant a reward, though it had never been stated what that would be, but it would also mean opportunities for more work in the future. Tanning wasn’t exactly pleasant work and it wasn’t something Akeno particularly wanted to get involved it, but having something she was trusted to do and a person who trusted her to do it would mean getting her foot into a door, any door, within the tribe.
So it was a relief when Shamar seemed satisfied with the pelts. The older Orc left to get something from her hut and returned a moment later with a vest that she had made from buckskin; a light defense boost, as well as an actual piece of clothing to cover herself with. Orc seemed pretty resilient to the elements, all things considered, but that didn’t make walking around bare-chested any less unpleasant. “Thank you.”
Putting it on and adjusting the size in the way Shamar indicated, Akeno felt a strange sense of accomplishment as she put the vest on; it was something that she had earned with her own hard work, something she hadn’t had this morning when she found herself with nothing in a strange world with no concern for her. The vest was tangible proof that she had managed to do… something since then.
But, it wasn’t shelter and it wasn’t safety. Akeno still had no place to sleep tonight and was no closer to getting one, despite having fewer hours left in the day than she did at the start of this.
“Do you hunt all of these animals yourself?” Looking around the area surrounding Shamar’s hut, there were a lot of pelts and animal carcasses around. A lot for one person to have killed by themselves, even if they made it their profession. Did people bring their kills to her, to be skinned and gutted and made into something useful, or did she do all of this by herself?
“How does a runt usually get their own shelter when they first leave the brood pit? And what happens to the ones that don’t?”
