Twas a new journey indeed, from this new experience Donovan was having with his teacher, Master Zen Euphoria, the blind Martial arts master and therapist who uses Empathy, radar senses, and short term precognition. Aided by her assistant, Gong AKA.... Blank, an expert martial artist and herbalist with that power to negate powers and erase memories, they started off with conditioning Donovan's body and mind.

Meditation was one of the main exercises they've had to use in order for Donovan to get into gaining self control, calmness, and learning understand the heart of others. Gong mostly trained Donovan in combat. Keeping Donovan from using his powers, he was forcing Donovan to use his mind and body, since his power was useless now in order to solve a problem. The majority of the time, Donovan was getting his ass kicked, despite not feeling the pain but his pride was definitely hurting.

Being knocked down once again, Donovan was getting irritated as he stood up You know what, fuck this shit!! he said as he was getting ready to leave and quit from the fighting. Gong watched I thought you came here to train?
Donovan looked over I did come here to train, not get my ass kicked by a fucking cheater! If I had my powers I'd rip you a new asshole!! Gong was calm at first and then walked down the stairs This is training! There is a reason why I turned off your power. You have relied on it far too much and used it for brutal purposes. I'm training you for if there's situation where your powers are rendered useless. This will allow you to rely on your mind and body. This is a way for you to learn how to calm yourself and not think too maliciously...I told you before...I'm teaching you a way to not get hurt and defend yourself....not kill.

I can defend myself if I had my damn shadows! You and that blind bitch have done nothing but beat me up and made me meditate and talked about looking into my feelings and other pussy shit like that! I'm better off leaving and doing my own thing! Gong walked over and slapped Donovan And you know what I thought....I told Master that you were better off having all of your memories erased so you wouldn't remember what you've gone through and start you fresh. but she said no...she felt that you could benefit more to remember your sins so that you could grow and become stronger to never be what you once was. She said if I gave you a blank memory, you'd be at the mercy of anyone who wanted to control you and she said that is not just. We are preparing you for worse things to come and to turn over a new leaf as they say. Now...are you going to prove to all who doubt you, that they were right? That you are nothing but scum? Master mentioned that there is more to you than what you think after she read your heart......are you going to prove to yourself that you can change? if you didn't care.....why did you bother coming here in the first place? Gong said.

Donovan stared on for a moment and thought about his worlds and Zen's words Alright you bald-headed bastard.....I'm going to have to kick your ass without the powers to shut you and that blind bitch up.... He said as he closed his eyes and thought about the exercises he went through to have a clear and focused mind, a calm aura and a resolved heart and opened his eyes to get back into a stance to continue the spar session.

Only a few moments passed when EJ watched as the speech ended and the students were all parting ways to enjoy the carnival. He looked around to notice a few new faces but he wasn't looking for anyone in particular until hearing someone call out to him. A familiar voice but not that of his "boo", EJ looked in the direction of where the voice came from to notice Selene.

With a smirk displayed, he walked over to her, bumping into a few people, mostly that of Sophmores and came up shortly "Yo, Shades, what it is?" he said coming over to her to give her a hug. "What you up to?" he asked her

"Oh, well, you know how it is," Selene said as she returned his hug. "Big day today, doing my best to see who we've got. A lot of new people - you might be in luck." She pulled away from the hug and lowered her sunglasses, right eye closed in a wink. "Just remember, you'll probably be seeing everyone tomorrow too." Just a friendly reminder. She pushed her glasses back up. "By the way, can I grab you later as a spotter? I'm sure there'll be games and prizes - sure would like to win a stuffed tiger."

After releasing from the hug, EJ looked around and then back into Selene's eyes despite the shades she had on, long enough to see her winking. "Hehe...I know right. Just shoulda got here earlier. I ended up waking up late." he said. EJ usually went to bed very late at night. "But It's probably better that I'm late here than the first official day of school. You know, my grandma threatened me with an eggo waffle." he mentioned.

He nodded to the offer as a spotter for Selene "Yeah...I don't mind being your spotter. I might not be alone when you get me." he reminded her of his girlfriend who would more than likely be around by the time Selene would come back to him.

Selene tried to muffle a snicker at Ezera's brief story, but failed. It sounded like his grandmother - she'd met her before and... well, best to leave at that. No point taking sides. "It is, yes. You know, maybe tomorrow, we should see where the school library is - if only so you can arrive early and sleep until first period." Not entirely a serious suggestion, and she grinned at the thought.

Ah, yeah, the girlfriend. Selene didn't mind her, not at all, but she wasn't sure they'd actually ever met. Ezera seemed fond enough of her - Amelia, that was the name, right? Just with his love of nicknames, it hadn't come up too much. She was just Fire - a redhead, Selene thought. She nodded, though. "Well, as long as she's nice - maybe I can win all three of us something?" And hopefully she'd understand. She didn't really know how much EJ told Fire about, well, 'Shades'. But if EJ liked her-

"Tch....if I can even wake up in time to get here so I can sleep again..." EJ said sarcastically "And library huh? You know I don't really get into that reading stuff too much...I'll probbly be on my music while you're checking stuff out." EJ was not a bookworm but if his friends ever ask him for a favor to join them, he'd do it.

For response to Selene's response regarding Amelia, "Fire" which EJ called her, he chuckled "I'm sure she'll be nice.....damn...I hope she be nice. If not, I'll make sure she get off you. So...don't worry, I'll handle her." he retorts

"Well, was just thinking the library would be quiet at least. And semi-abandoned. Less likely things would go poorly if you fell asleep there." Selene shrugged, glancing at the older students leaving the area. From top of the school all the way back down to the bottom. The feeling hung over like a thundercloud. If she didn't need college for her eventual career, she doubted she'd attend. "I know I won't be bored there, at least." He was right, she wouldn't argue that.

She couldn't help but heave a sigh of relief. "Thanks. It'd just be awful, crying on the first day of high school." She smiled at EJ. "So I really do appreciate it."

"I tell ya, you always lookin out for me." he said about how she'd suggest him going to the library to sleep. He did wonder though how the first year of highschool would go. What was ahead of them? Where he, Selene, Amelia, and their friend Kas would would be after this was all over. Selene could be considered a true friend to him since she was always good to talk to when EJ was going through something. He has told Amelia about her before but he didn't remember if the two met.

When Selene expressed her gratitude, EJ shrugged "Hey, you always look out for me, I'm going to do the same as well. I won't let anyone harm that pretty face of yours." the moment he said that, he heard Amelia's voice as she came over to him. The moment she came down to hug him, he hugged her back "Fire, what's up babe?" he said as she spoke to him and asked him a question about the summer.

"My summer was good but....you already know what made it worth while...." he said reminding Amelia of what they did over the summer. "And sure, you know I don't mind hearing your notes." When she spoke about Kas and Thomas, EJ looked around for them and then back at Selene. "Oh! Fire, have you ever met Selene? I call her Shades...I spoke to you about her before but wasn't sure you two met?"

Selene nodded and gave a short wave - normally, she preferred to shake hands, but it meant reaching over EJ, and that seemed less than ideal at the moment. "Pleasure to meet you. He seems very fond of you, you know."

Shiver's heart started racing and she jumped back against the wall. She was scared to death for a moment. Shiver was curious. "How can you do that to people? How can you think it's fun or funny. It's not a game!" Shiver reached over to slap him.

Raising an eyebrow and chuckling after getting slapped. "As amusing as it is, I've grown accustom to sneaking in places mostly because I was always 'not allow in' places. And it's my usual way of traveling and I didn't feel like getting your permission to come in...so...I helped myself. Not that I wanted to scare you, love."

Shiver stared at him. "Not your shadow traveling I mean how can you rape people? Don't you know how badly it hurts someone? And don't call me love you don't get to do that. In case you don't know. Even though you didn't do it you still do it to others. Don't you realize what you are doing to their minds? The physical pain heals but the mind....I'm scared all the time! I need to look ugly so that men won't notice me. I don't know whether or not I should just give them what they want so they won't hurt me or not." Shiver had no idea when the tears had started streaming down her face. "I'm not okay and I don't know how to fix me."

Donovan listened to her when she corrected him about what she was talking about. When mentioning and asking how he could rape people and asking him if he know what it does to people, the mental trauma, Donovan had looked away and gave a "hmph" when she said she didn't know how to be fixed. Donovan thought about something and sighed and that cocky smirk he had, went away "I know that pain all too well......and then some.....you're asking do I know how that feels and what it does to people? I know every detail of how it feels."

Shiver looked confused. "If you know then why do you do it to them?" She whispered this trying to figure out how a victim became the abuser. "Who hurt you?"

Donovan gave a little chuckle after what he said and the response Shiver gave "It's not that simple.....you have no idea what hell I've been through in my life....even if I told you, it wouldn't make a difference. I'm already fucked up and I don't think there's no reversing that." he said going around the question of who hurt him. "I was nothing but trash to them...and they were right..." he said looking down at the floor.

Shiver still felt really tense around him. "Look, I'm sorry I hit you. I shouldn't have." She sat down on the desk next to where he was standing. "I think you could be a good person. You don't have to be trash unless you want to be."

"Good person huh? If I could be or was ever a good person or had that potential, why was I mentally, physically, emotionally, and sexually abused by my parents since I was three. If I'm so good, why did I lose my virginity to my parents....both of them? Do you know...that they took turns abusing me and tormenting me sexually. I was beaten, raped, verbally abused, locked up, ignored, and basically treated like shit my whole life. I endured that until I was 15, when I had enough and killed them....and after that, I went to my next hell." he said looking her in the eyes "And your hit....I told you before I can't feel pain...."

Shiver looked at him in stunned silence for a moment. She didn't know what to say to that. Three years old for twelve years? Shiver stood up and as scared as she was she reached out and hugged him tightly. "I'm so sorry that you had bastards for parents. I can only imagine." She cried for him as she hugged him."Can you feel anything? Can you feel my arms around you or is it just pain that you can't feel?"

Donovan was wondering what she was about to do when she got up. The first thing that came to mind was her hitting him or trying to harm him like before but was a little surprised by the hug she gave him. What really got him was that she was crying for him which was something he's never experienced before. He didn't know how to react to the sympathy she was showing towards his pain. "It's fine....what happened in the past is in the past.....well...that's what I want to believe but I kept that hell in my heart for the longest. And.....yeah....I can feel your warmth. Pain is the only thing I can't feel. In fact....These powers I have, I was never born with them...they were given to me." he said not really hugging back but placed his hand on the top of her head gently.

"Given to you? Where did you get them? It's not like you can get bitten by a spider and poof climb the skyline like it's no biggie." Shiver realized her arms were still around him but at his waist now and she stepped back. "Why do I have a bad feeling about how you got these powers?"

Donovan stared into Shiver's eyes for a moment and then gave a large grin. "Since you asked, you'll have to endure it too. I got my powers surgically. After killing my fucking parents I was sent to a juvenile detention center. But....the place was nothing more than a front for a terrorist group. The so-called counselor, he was a doctor who specialized in meta experimentations. He was trying to turn humans into meta-humans he can control and make weapons out of. I was his favorite. I endured excruciating tests and surgeries. day in and day out spliced and cut open. He surgically made me to where I could no longer feel pain so that I wouldn't let pain hinder me. I lived in a damn kennel as nothing but a number...a test subject. I was even given the power to use shadows." Donovan explained. "I was put against my friends that were test subjects like me and forced to kill them to test my powers. and ritually, I went through mental programming so they could control me. I was nothing but an animal."

Shiver was praying that he was lying to her but somehow she knew he wasn't. "How...I..." In typical Shiver fashion when she couldn't express herself in words she let her emotions tell him. She reached up and kissed him softly on the lips and put her arms around him. "I don't understand humans as much as I thought that I did. I would never have guessed that they could be so cruel. No one deserves what you have gone through." She looked him in the eyes.

Taking the surprising kiss, Donovan averted his eyes "Well....you experienced how cruel they were the other night....I know...I do some real fucked up stuff but after what I've been through, I promised myself that I'd never let anyone have that much power over me ever again. I don't mind being a hero but...at times, I don't like authority.........." he thought for a moment "Never shared that shit with anyone before.....don't go telling me story to people...don't need a fucking pity party from everyone."

Shiver nodded. "I won't tell everyone don't worry. I do want to help you though. Could you do something for me? Could you stop raping people? And I don't mean just let your shadow doppelganger do it. I mean completely stop. Please? Think about what it did to you and don't pass it on."

She could hear Enyo coming and she knew how well that would go. "Hurry, go before Enyo finds us talking. She will think you were bothering or upsetting me because of what you do."
Shiver let go of him and smiled."I'll talk to you later ok?"

Donovan stared for a moment and her request was a difficult one. He sighed "You know what you're asking of me?.....shit....don't get mad if I have a relapse. pussy is not easy to give up taking...And yeah...guess I'll see ya then...kinda wanted to say hey to that sexy Enyo gal too....anywho, see ya....babes" he said using his shadow to leave once again with a joker grin. After leaving and headed to his room, he came back out of his shadow, leaning on his wall Don......what the fuck??? he said to himself about what just transpired.
