A bell rang through the house announcing that it was lunchtime. The couple classes that were running were let out and the teachers left to their own separate lunch eating area. They knew the kids were "troubled" but most of them had no idea of what was actually going on with the children. They all lived offsite. Only Kade and Elenore lived in the house. Kade in the attic still, but now that he was 20 he was no longer a student, and without Lundy, he was in charge of orientation.

Elenore paused on the staircase as she heard footsteps leaving classes, or from their breaks toward the lunch room. Hannah and Sumi passed her grinning and chatting in their wild high non-sense way. Elenore knew that Sumi gave people hope because all the students knew that she was destined to return to her world. Someday she would find her door again and she would save her world and marry and have a daughter. A good portion of the student body had even met Sumi's daughter. Hannah found hope in Sumi's story. They both had been ejected from their worlds by an enemy. Hannah saw that as proof she could someday go back. Kade though was proof that sometimes there was no going back. He had broken a basic law of his world and they kicked him out. He could never return. Elenore worried that Hannah would have too much hope... and someday that would eat away at her. She was what Elenore considered an at-risk student. Elenore finished the climb to Alex and Ryker's room, she gently knocked.

The kettle was whistling. Heather pulled it from the heat and poured some water into a mug. She yawned. The night before had been somewhat restless, and she was still tired. She was thankful she had a late shift at the cafe before she went in though she wanted to make sure she pulled some weeds from the garden. The last couple of days had been quiet and simple. It was what she needed and reaffirmed her desire to not move back in with her father no matter what. The stress of living back there would be too much. She was certain of that now.

Heather went out to the garden with her mug of tea and set it down on the little table. She noticed a plant looked a little wilted. She frowned and checked the leaves for bugs trying to figure out what caused the wilting. She ran her fingers gently over the ruined edge. Heather picked up a watering can and refilled it. She checked the soil around the damaged plant for how dry it was and glanced at the leaf. The browning was gone. She paused and stared. It had definitely been that leaf Heather was sure of it.

She tilted the can and let a little water pour out into the soil and moved onto a different plant checking the soil before adding the water. When she found another browned plant, she checked it as before, but this time she watched it. The brown slowly became green, and then the leaf was whole again.

What did that mean?
BACK! *flops on bed like a cat*
Gwyn decided she would follow Karillis' lead. If she wanted to go after some random guy for an even randomer monarch then so be it. She could at least say traveling with Karillis was interesting. Though Gwyn constantly worried she would slip up and somehow someone would figure out her secret. Especially with how much Karillis hated "anathema".

(forgive shortness and formating this was written on a cellphone at an airport bathroom after two drinks)
@kittyluna45 let's do a meal first.
You can buy not necessary. Though I would like to get to orientation as quickly as possible.
“You must be Ms. West, I presume?” Eleanore smiled. She was rarely called that.

“Yes,” She held out her hand and played her part. Her hand warm like the rest of her was slowly getting uncomfortable. She didn’t want to invite the Porter’s inside, though.

Mr. Porter took her offered hand. He gave it a quick, business-like shake, his grip firm and still a bit chilled from the car’s air conditioning.

“I am happy you’ve brought the young Mr. Porter to us.” She spoke like Lundy would have if she had still been alive. Eleanore’s mind wandered to the shady grove on the hill.

“Of course,” Mrs. Porter repeated, her gaze on the front door as if still trying to see Ryker. She looked back to Eleanor and took a breath. “You should know. Ryker went missing about three years ago. We only just got him back, but…”

“But he’s different,” Mr. Porter finished for his wife. “Defiant. He’s had difficulties re-adjusting, and can’t tell the difference between fantasy and reality.” He frowned, his mustache accenting the action. “He thinks he came from Neverland,” he added with a disapproving shake of his head.

“We can’t imagine what he’s been through to concoct such a delusion.” Mrs. Porter sighed sadly, worry glistening in her eyes. “But he refuses to listen to reason. He won’t talk about what really happened. We just don’t know what else to do for him. Then his therapist suggested this place.” She gestured to the house. “Do you think you can help him?”

Eleanor nodded along as they spoke their fears. It was the same story as every other parent told her. The same worries, the same changes. The Porters wanted their baby back, and he was here, physically, but he would never be who they remembered. She hoped Alexander had done his job and gotten Ryker out of earshot. It was bad enough that he saw her dressed like she was, dying in the heat, but to protect the children it was worth it. “We specialize in cases just like him. This is a rare but not unique disorder that manifests in young children just as they are reaching adulthood. It is a delusion and with some time away it may help cure it. It is not your fault.” Her speech was practiced and played upon those very fears the Porters carried. Best though, they wanted to help their son, and so did Eleanore. It was simply that they had very different ideas of how to help him.

“A disorder.” Mrs. Porter nodded slowly in acceptance at the false explanation. “I trust we’ll receive progress reports throughout his stay? And of course, we’ll expect to collect him for the major holidays.”

Beside her, Mr. Porter checked his watch. His frown deepened. He glanced behind him toward the car, then returned his attention to Eleanore, his mustache twitching with growing impatience.

“Of course.” Eleanore gave Mrs. Porter the necessary reassurances. “Though if you don’t mind now I’d like to get started with orientation for young Mr. Porter.” She offered another handshake and watched the pair climb into their car and drive off. Once they were clear of the gate she stepped inside and dropped the logic as the shawl and coat came off. She sighed relieved it was over. Then started up the stairs. She had several new students, the most she had seen come in at one time ever. As she climbed the stairs she narrated and hoped that the brief glimpse Ryker had had of her wouldn’t break his trust in her.

Heather lit a candle trying to disperse the last vestiges of the sulfur smell. She wondered where it was coming from so she searched the house for a few minutes to see if she could find a source. When she didn't find the source she decided to make dinner. She steamed some veggies and warmed a pot of water for tea.

It didn't take her long to realize that even with how tired she felt she wouldn't be getting sleep anytime soon. She paced and cleaned and rearranged her house. Doing anything that distracted her thoughts until she fell asleep on the couch.

Heather was tired. The day had been a long one between getting home from her travels and then the sudden shift at the cafe she was ready to sleep. Though she had a dreading feeling that sleep would not be kind to her. As she walked tears welled up in her eyes. Often she would call her mom while walking home from work and it was pressing down on her that this was not an option anymore. She was tempted to give Olivia a call, but it didn't feel right.
It had to be Karilis that had gotten the pair of them flagged for (Gwyn wouldn't call this arrest as much as it felt like) arrest. The two of them hadn't been traveling together long. There was little trust shared between them, though something resembling respect had started to grow. Karilis meant potential trouble. Though, Gwyn was confident her secret was safe especially this far from the Islands where she had exalted.

She clutched her sketchbook tightly; it was the dirty, dingy one she wrote and drew in first before transferring it to the oilskin-wrapped book. That was the only sign she was freaking out. Sven knew though and moved slightly, putting his head near an opening in her clothing if he were needed he'd be ready to strike.

The regal woman's eyes paused on one of the others that had been brought up. There was something uncomfortably familiar about her. Gwyn couldn't quite put her finger on it at first. She was pale and had red hair, much like her travel partner. Were they related? She'd get back to that thought.

Her focus darted over the others. A literal green haired man with.... prehensile feet. She had seen weirder in the caves, but it was one of the stranger things she had seen in the last couple of months of heavy travel.

There were two children, boys, couldn't be older than 16, an old man and someone who looked stoned out of their mind. Why had this group been gathered? Both the non-Karilis red-haired woman and the monkey man asked the regal woman that question. No point in asking it as well. If the woman wouldn't respond to them, she wasn't going to answer Gwyn.

In response to her question posed to the group, Gwyn lifted her sketchbook. That sketchbook had gotten her places before, nothing forbidden, but it had always been a conversation opener. She would have to explain it better if the woman wanted, but it was her way of saying I'm here for business certainly not for whatever things you consider pleasure.
