No offense intended. But there's a sweet spot on the sliding scale of realism, and most of the interest checks I usually see skew too far to the realism end for me.

Can't describe how quickly I go from excited to sad when a mecha premise turns out to be realism wankery.

I'm seeing one huge problem here. For an RP based around 'character interactions and building', your drastically limiting character build options for the sake of pvp 'balance' and making everything super watered down and boring in the process.

I mean, sure if you just want a hunter x hunter sorta thing going, then just say that. But then nein can be used to an extent that is very close if not exactly magic. (Greed island) or borderline alchemy (Chimera Ants) so it seems like that isn't even happening here.

I dunno, just seems like the initial vision, then your refinement of that vision, are two totally different ends of the spectrum. Aren't shonen anime supposed to be fun and over the top? Fist of the North Star being a great early example. Or bobobo, if you want a shonen parody. (I miss that one.)

These are some decent points. I don't know if I necessarily agree on the proposed solutions, but honestly shounen is usually pretty over the top by definition.

Well like I said, I'm willing to allow it if it's well thought out and reasonable. I just don't want it to become the norm is all

Well I actually have the CS written up already, I just haven't posted it yet because I want everyone to come to an agreement on the power situation first. I could PM you the CS (and anyone else who wants it) if you want

That would be great. It'll be a bit before I work out a power, but it would be fantastic to be able to start filling in the rest.
Just my two cents, take it for what it's worth, but I don't think some out there stuff would be too bad.

Most people will go for simpler energy-based powers, but being able to bend a little for something that is well thought out wouldn't be too bad. It puts the burden on the player to come up with something acceptably fleshed-out, and given that we're discussing a shounen setting... That sort of thing wouldn't be too far outside the genre norm.

On an unrelated note, do you have any idea what the big fields on the CS might be? I'm starting work without one, but I want to make sure I cover the major bases so I can fit it all into the actual CS when it comes up.

Actually no... sorry to disappoint you, but it isn't. However, now that you mentioned it, he does look like it.

What it actually is... is this. His name is Haruo.

(This is also being planned as a trilogy too)

Yeah, @Crimmy mentioned I was way off base.

I'm going to blame it on lots of Gundam and the late hour.
Interest taken! Lets see where this goes.

If that's a Gaelio avatar, good taste.

EDIT: I've been informed that I am way off base. I've watched too much Gundam lately.
@Zero Hex

The thing with the illusionists is that I wanted there to be a category of channellers that were the "smart but weak" types, the ones that were the opposite of the "strong but dumb" augmenter type. I guess I don't need that, but I was kinda going for that

@Krayzikk

The location changes constantly, due to it being kept a secret from regular people, though it's usually in a deserted area where not a lot of people go

Alright, is there any particular region of the world were it usually is? Since channelers are largely secret, is there anything in particular they usually do after graduating? Are we talking secret heroism, or just generally trying to blend?

Sorry to ask so many questions, just getting a feel for things while I brainstorm.
So before I forget, I wanted to ask; where in the world is the institute?
Tentatively interested. If I have time and a concept. This might be the sort of fun I've been in search of.
Nothing fancy, but it wraps up the first fight. I'm planning on using the second Musai to show off our primary antagonist before he and whatever survives falls back.

This way we can get back on track.

The immediate fight was resolved. If you could call it a fight, given how quickly they’d dispatched their Spacenoid foes. It was more like a bloodbath, though that didn’t really fit either given that all their foes were vaporized without a trace. The point is, as Lieutenant Staten surveyed the battlefield, the fighting had wrapped up. The Zaku Cannon’s shoulder and right arm were sheared off by Yemi’s shot while it tried to dodge, only a few milliseconds saving him from instant death in the vacuum of space. His respite didn’t last long. Even refitted for use in space the Cannon was still a fish out of water, and with the Pixie it would’ve had a tough time even on Earth.

Out here, it didn’t stand a chance.

The Pixie’s sabers destroyed it before Lt. Nocte had a chance to do much more than make his peace. The Zeonic mobile suit vanished in a purple puff, and the last active target on the battlefield with it.

Which left the Musai. Or rather…

“Eyes open, girls.” The Spartan sent her trophy drifting back towards the ship, sheathing her knife and saber while she maneuvered back towards her point of origin to grab her gun. Nothing was showing up on her IR sensors, at least nothing useful. The number of beams getting bandied about meant anything useful in the vicinity was just noise. This was going to be more complicated. “That was seven mobile suits. Musais only have room for six.”

“Which means we’ve got one more out there, and potentially five more enemy contacts on board. The Horse will support us, we’re going to find ‘em both and sink ‘em or drive ‘em off. Savvy?”

The Spartan pointed.

“Somewhere in that debris. Casablancas, I could use a lift. You and Yemi are the only ones packing the ranged firepower to sink ‘em, so Luna and Yemi are going to travel as a pair, and so are you and I.”
