Current I'm going to have to take a break for awhile. One of my dogs just passed; we went to bed together like we always do and when I woke up she was gone. I feel awful right now.

Had a fun birthday. Had some alligator tail for dinner, overall was pretty good for a place I hadn't been to before. Will start getting back into the groove of things soon.

ORANGE JUICE FOR LIFE

Imagine preferring orange juice over apple juice

A beautiful string of Quebecois swear words suddenly overtook the music playing in her headphones as Asélie scrambled from the pavement; her eyes locked on the muscle car that continued down the road to the library. Her parents forced Asélie to wear safety pads and a helmet if she wanted to ride her skateboard, but eating asphalt after an unexpected bail was still painful even if having the wind knocked out of you was preferable to a fractured skull and broken bones.

"Watch the road next time, moron." Asélie complained, even though the car was by then long gone.

Brushing the dirt and dust off her jeans, Asélie hurried to catch up to her board before it rolled any further down the neighborhood street. It was still early in the day, but it seemed the world was out to get her. Asélie swore her father woke up on the wrong side of the bed when he off about her overdue fines regarding the books she had borrowed for final projects at the library, and when she tried to abide by her father simply to get him off her case, she nearly ate the front hood of a car even though it technically was her fault for not paying attention at the intersection.

Fucking America. They should've never moved from Montreal, even if it meant "better opportunities" and "more money to spend on themselves", or so were her parents' reasoning for the move.

Hopping back onto her board into a kick turn, Asélie pulled her phone from her pocket and fiddled with her Spotify. Loud's album, "Une année record" had continued to play through her headphones, and was already a good song and a half from where she last remembered she was at before nearly being ran over. Flipping back to the sixth track in the album, Asélie stuffed her phone back into her jacket and let the music fill her ears as she swerved side to side down the rest of the street to the library.

Sure, today might've had a rough start, but as long as she had her favorite music, it couldn't all be bad. After all, what was the chance of being nearly hit by an automobile twice in the same day?

I was bullied for most of my childhood so I didn't exactly have a lot of friends back then.

That sucks, though personally I can't relate. In fact, I had a ton of friends back then, but due to the great recession and eventual junior high/high school cliques, I downgraded to a select group of close friends (and even then I only regularly talk to one of them today).
@Kuro Did you grow up in the US?

American midwest, yeah.

I grew up during a time period when things like this were no big deal. Every kid I knew, when I was a kid, rode in the back of a pickup. We drank from garden hoses and rode our bicycles without helmets. WE played outside every day during hte summer and didn't go back inside until the street lights came on. If you wanted to see a friend or tell himself, you rode your bike to his house. We played games in teh street and didn't have a care in the world. It was a lot less restrictive. All the rules, aimed at protecting the greater good were placed by well intentioned people, but only served to degrade the condition in which we live.

Well, I can't speak for others, but as someone who was born in 1999, most of that applied to my childhood. The only things that really don't apply are: riding in back of a pickup (only once so far in my life), playing outside every day during summer until dark (some days we did, some days we didn't) and riding a bike to our friend's house (it depended, sometimes I rode my bike, sometimes I got a lift to their house). But drinking from garden hoses, riding without helmets, playing games in the street (primarily 500, kickball, frisbee and four square), etc. was all pretty common growing up for me.

It became quickly obvious that Ailanthus was the asshole of the group. A "for business run?" People were having mush for brains if they died in-game, yet she was busy thinking about business strategies to profit off their situation. Eaudenil was horrified; how could they take advantage of the weak and scared? Part of her wanted to turn tail and run away, shocked that someone would consider such a thing. The other half wanted to stand up for herself and the rest currently scared for their lives—they all just wanted to play a game, not die for real.

But just like before in countless similar situations, a nagging feeling refused to go away in the back of Eaudenil's thoughts. Was it intimidation, or was it her own fear of being alone and dying in this unknown world? She never could tell, though it was enough for Eaudenil to keep her feet planted where she stood and answer the "armored mage's" questions.

"Well," Eaudenil spoke, glancing at Alex as he smiled. They may have only known each other for a couple of minutes, but it at least seemed like he had her back. "As as a knight of the green, most of my abilities are dedicated to defending nature against anything that might wish to destroy it. For instance, I can trap foes in thick roots, use spores to scout the road ahead, and even sense where powerful threats are rapidly damaging the environment, such as a lich corrupting the land with unholy energies or an Orcish horde rampantly cutting down a forest for their encampment."

Looking at the others once more, Eaudenil continued. "So, I guess, in game logic, that makes me somewhat of a support. Before I forget, though, I should add that my pact with nature has turned me into a human plant in order for me to use my powers. Now, this doesn't mean I'll be sprouting flowers anytime soon, but rather that lengthy dungeon dives are probably not for me unless someone has light spells. Out here in the sunlight, however, I'm perfectly fine; better than I would be anywhere else, even. Does that explain things?"

She prayed that was enough to satisfy Ailanthus' curiosity, and maybe even secure her place in their group.
As the others have said, welcome to the guild.
