“Plenty of stuff to check out in town. Could take the old trail in the woods and see what’s up. Could board up windows. Check on neighbors we haven’t heard from in awhile. See if they’ve turned into creeps. Gazebo meeting's dumb.”

Holly hesitantly considered the idea. On one hand, she had already promised to show up to the meeting. Not showing up would likely cause confusion and worry given recent events. But, on the other hand, there was Lee—her best friend; the person she trusted more than anyone else. Holly wasn't keen on running off into potential danger in the name of exploration, but she was always there to have Lee's back, much like Lee had hers. If Lee was brazen enough to go out there willingly, Holly felt it was her duty to tag along, even if it was just to keep her out of trouble like many times prior.

Of course, in this case "trouble" would mean keeping the two of them alive. This wasn't some schoolyard scrap she'd have to bail Lee out of, this was a matter of life and death. It meant having to potentially kill what was once someone they might've known—an action Holly wasn't sure she could do.

"I don't know, Lee. I'm not so certain myself." She began, uncertainty in her tone, "But you know me. If you want to go, then I'm going too. After all, someone has to keep you out of trouble."

"I still don't know how your mom listens to this stuff."

Holly sat backwards in her desk chair, resting her arms on the back of the seat. Jessie by Paw had been playing in the background through muted speakers, turned down to not draw any potential attention from lurking creeps. The brick walls of the house would've probably blocked the sound, but it was better to be safe than sorry, Holly felt.

Ever since Holly had found an antique cassette player at a yard sale, listening to music had become a common "hangout hobby" for the two girls. Raiding Mrs. Graves' music stash was their ritual, playing whatever weird tapes Lee pulled from old storage totes that probably hadn't seen the light of day in years. There were probably better ways to spend their time, but Huddeen never had much going for it even prior to the apocalypse. If you didn't want to hang at the Greenhouse—which, with Lee not being much of a socialite, didn't happen often—you had to figure out your own ways to have fun and games.

As the tape switched to the next song, Holly looked at her phone. It was almost time for their gathering, or meeting as Jason had put it. While Holly thought it was a great idea for them to put their heads together, after all, the apocalypse wasn't going anywhere soon, she still had her reservations. Leaving out the older folk wasn't going to help their situation, and despite being childhood friends, Holly often believed Jason wasn't quite the "sharpest tool in the shed". She felt awful for thinking so, but Holly didn't see Jason as one to take charge; prior antics leaving her unsure of his ability to lead and organize.

Regardless, his message to the "Survival Squad" was at least a start to potentially something greater. Something that might just keep them alive until rescue came—if it was coming at all.

"It's about time for Jason's meeting across the street." Holly announced, standing up from the chair. "I'm going to check on Morgan, see if she's still napping, before I head over there. You coming?"

---- Anni was popular for all the wrong reasons, her high school career being a miserable four years. Although Anni was an average and decent student during her tenor at Ritman High, she was seen primarily as a social outcast by her peers. She desperately felt the need to fit in with others, and was particularly focused on being seen as one of the "cool" or "popular" kids. Unfortunately for Anni, these dreams never worked out in her favor and were often ripped away right before her very eyes. Her attempt at joining Ritman's cheerleading squad flopped. She crashed too many parties she was never invited to. Even her very name had been twisted by her fellow classmates into a less-flattering nickname that would make your grandmother faint. No one wanted anything to do with Anni. She was ostracized by her peers; turned into a punching bag for the student body despite all of her attempts to crawl out of the hole she was in. It's probably why she found solace in being the school's mascot—the only good thing Anni swears had happened in her time at Ritman High. Tears are easier when no one can see them. ---- After graduation, things never changed for the better for Anni. Although she was now free from the hell that was Ritman High, her future school career came to an abrupt end afterwards as well. After being rejected from several colleges of her choice, Anni gave up on future schooling and focused her time on the work force. That said, work life wasn't much better. Seemingly trapped in her own personal hell Delton, Anni worked an odd number of jobs from service to retail. These jobs weren't kind to Anni, in pay but also elsewhere, too. Each passing day Anni felt the soul-crushing effects of life even more than before, becoming moody, distant, and ultimately perhaps one more dumb question from ending it all. Nothing was changing for the better, so why should keep fighting against it? Then the email came. A cruel joke, certainly. "Wearing a smile"? Bah. She thought about ignoring it, refusing to go. But then Anni had an idea. If she went, then she could at least make everyone feel miserable; to lash back out at them. Yeah, that was it. The reunion was going to be a damn good time for Anni, but everyone else was going to have the worst night of their lives—she just needed to figure out how she would fuck shit up. ▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔

---- Anni's power is the concept of mimicry. One might say it is similar to shapeshifting, and in fact it is in the same vein, but ultimately there are a few outliers that differentiate the two concepts. Unlike shapeshifting, mimicry only applies to other humans and not animals, plants or other living things. In other words, Anni might be able to transform into the president or some other individual, but she won't be able to replace Mrs. Carlisle's class hamster you accidentally murdered in third grade over spring break. You know who you are, Jason. Although Anni retains her memory when using her powers, she loses everything else, like her body, which adjusts to the parameters of her target's. Weight, height, even things such as amputated limbs or bad knees copies over, so she essentially feels the brunt of everything despite technically being still healthy and young. In other words, it can quickly become tiring for Anni as she has to adjust to the physical changes of whoever she has chosen to mimic at the time. ---- Personally, I want to write Anni coming to terms with her past. Yeah, she's had a shitty life so far, but I want her to realize that it isn't all bad and stop being an moody asshole over it. Of course, this all comes down to other player involvement, given that her sheet entirely relies on the input of others. Essentially, I'm hoping to potentially use this as interaction bait and a way to further develop not just my character but other player characters as well, provided they're willing. As for her power, I imagine that Anni will have issue with it. Technically being in another body is a freaky experience, obviously. It's like waking up with someone else's face as yours, probably with a craving of tacos or something to boot. She'll need quite some time to get used to her powers, especially the draining effects of having her body essentially warped into someone else each time she uses it. ▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔

All about role plays maps (world, town, dungeon)

If someone’s done this forgive me. But just interested do you guys use or create maps for role plays? Why or why not? If you do create maps could explain how you go about it? (The inspiration for the design of it and the names you attach to it. What program you use or if it’s hand drawn.).

I personally don't make RP maps all that often. Some RPs need them, of course, but most of the time it bogs things down when you can just make a "mental map" and jot some notes down as to where things are.

That said, multiple ways to do this:

Some people free hand it on paper or online (I used to use Roll20 and/or MSPaint back then) and screenshot/upload it. Others use map programs like Inkarnate to help build maps, just give "worldbuilding map program" or something a google search and you'll probably find it among others that could help out.

Then of course you have the crowd that just steals a map they find online and uses it for their RP, but who would do that? Certainly not RPers.
