Current I'm going to have to take a break for awhile. One of my dogs just passed; we went to bed together like we always do and when I woke up she was gone. I feel awful right now.

Had a fun birthday. Had some alligator tail for dinner, overall was pretty good for a place I hadn't been to before. Will start getting back into the groove of things soon.

I made an attempt to run one many years ago. There was also--I think--nation RP that was ran once here. I didn't join that RP, but I thought it was funny when I noticed that they lifted elements from my OOC for theirs.

AJ had been left disheartened. Despite her concern, her mother had been insistent on them taking shelter in her apartment. She hadn't seen what happened on the highway. How so easily people began to rip and tear each other apart. Being potentially trapped above those things felt like a nightmare waiting to happen, and AJ wanted no part of it.

And when Kaitlyn approached, it only added fuel to the fire. She felt like her mother was ignoring her concerns; deciding what was best for them without her input. AJ wanted to stand up for what she believed in and to challenge her mother's train of thought. She didn't want to disappoint her mother, but being walked all over was frustrating enough. It had been this way ever since the divorce. No one seemed to listen to her. No one seemed to care. Even her father seemed indifferent, appearing to take neither side when AJ had hoped for his favor.

They would never understand how she truly felt, not even in the damned apocalypse.

"Okay, mom." AJ responded, disgruntled with her mother. It was a tone reminiscent of all those nights, wherein AJ would pass on her mother's attempt to continue their family traditions. "If you say so."

Grabbing her duffel bag, she loaded it into the trunk of her father's car. AJ then climbed into the backseat and buckled her seat belt in silence. This time, there was no bedroom to run to to get away. She was stuck with her officious parents until they got back home.

Despite the slight tension still in the air, Lex was relieved that they were no longer at each other's throats. Everyone moved to help with the plan, regardless if they had been full onboard or not. Flynn and Kali had went to help with the officers, while Billie went to acquire the semi for their own purposes. Unfortunately, that meant the only piece left was to go search the store that everyone had just ran out of—something Lex wasn't particularly keen on. One of those things had just attacked her inside the gas station, and the cops had seemed to be in a hurry to leave after coming to their rescue. Something had to still be lurking inside.

"I'll check the cars first." Lex said. She didn't feel comfortable entering the gas station alone, and not without some sort of weapon. "There has to be something someone left behind."

Pushing past June and Flynn, Lex climbed out of the MRAP and walked over to the nearest vehicle. Robbing people of their belongings didn't seem right to Lex, especially with the cops standing nearby. This wasn't the vending machine all over again; this was someone's livelihood and belongings. That being said, they already had stolen an MRAP, and it didn't seem like the vehicles' owners were bound to come back soon. After all, why would they leave a perfectly good vehicle they could've driven away in?

"They're not helping anyone just sitting in there." Lex muttered to herself, attempting to justify breaking into someone's car to take whatever supplies they were holding onto. "Here goes nothing..."

It seemed like there was finally a plan of action. Although not everyone was fully onboard with the plan, the tension seemed to quiet down.

Kali took one final look at Isaac as she followed Flynn outside the MRAP. Regardless of the plan, she needed to bring his condition up. It was now or never, and never was putting their lives at risk. She didn't know how long Isaac had. He was a ticking time bomb; one that was bound to turn cannibal and attack someone. It pained Kali, but there was no alternative. Any shot at saving Isaac was likely long gone.

As the officers went to convene among themselves, Kali turned to Flynn. It would be easier to break the news without Gus breathing down their necks, although Kali was still afraid of how Flynn would react. He seemed to be the most level-headed out of all them, though he was still a stranger whom she knew little about. There was a high chance he was bound to react horribly to what Kali was about to tell him.

"Flynn," Kali spoke, lowering her voice to a whisper so that only he could hear. "I need your help. Isaac... He—He isn't just sick. He's been hiding a bite since New York. I—I swear I didn't know. I had no idea until just now."

Kali nervously looked around, hoping no one was listening.

"I don't know what to do, Flynn. I don't want to lose another person I care about."

Yeah, kinda same boat. I have games I "want to get" but I might just wait until Black Friday the Month to dump money if I'm going to on.. I dunno what.

I think my issue is just that I'm satisifed with my current games. I've been playing Rivals, but also a ton of Minecraft with some Discord buddies. Haven't been really interested in finding something else to play even though I own more recent stuff. Hell, I have a Day 1 Switch 2 and I've only played it for a bit post-release.
Steam autumn sale is in swing, not sure if I want to spend any money on anything. I've got stuff in my wishlist that is on sale, but I might decide to keep saving my money instead.

A chorus of festivities echoed throughout the streets of New Rome. Laughter, music and lavish scents wafted through the atmosphere, drifting through the packed alleyways and paths of the city center. Countless merchant booths decorated the streetside, each vendor peddling their own goods to onlookers and spectators. The day's spirits proved high, and by all appearances, had no intention to wane as the hours passed on.

Many had questioned Shiori. A distinguished veteran, and a former centurion no less, surely would've joined the games. Cassian, Sabina, Kyros, Luka, even Rex—all names that carried significant weight. They all had chosen to join in the day's spectacle: a sparring match within the grand coliseum. It was practically expected that Shiori would follow in their footsteps.

And yet, she did not. Her days in the Legion had long since past. Shiori had found herself in the sidelines; a spectator from the shadows. She preferred it that way. The calm. The peace and quiet. It had enthralled Shiori like a siren's song, drawing her away from the spotlight. Fifteen long years. No longer did the heat of battle scar her skin. No longer did the fate of many rest in her hands. She could finally beat her sword into a ploughshare—to partake in the quaint aquarian life she had once cherished as a child many, many years ago.

Instead, she found herself wandering the paved stone streets of New Rome. Some whispered, as if it had been peer pressure for her refusal to spar. Others simply stared, wide-eyed and gawked. Shiori paid them no heed, ignoring the occasional onlooker as she browsed the festival. It was how she found herself in front of the Paradiso, the Italian-American brainchild of fellow centurion Avery Pierce. She could go for some food, Shiori figured, as she entered the bistro.

"One slice to go," Shiori asked at the counter, "Please."

"Coming right up." The server replied, grabbing a slice and wrapping it in paper. "That'd be one denari."

Shiori reached into her pocket and pulled out the exact change needed to pay for the slice. Handing the server the money, she bid them farewell. Now with food in hand, she pondered her next course of action. The reenactment sounded worthwhile, and so she set out to watch it. Perhaps the youngsters could finally put out a decent show this year, she wondered.

Rauni never had any intention to go to the festival. She had skipped it the year prior, and had planned to do the same this summer solstice. And yet, against her conscience, Rauni had found her way there. Perhaps it was a spell of loneliness. A desperate call for human touch and conversation. Either way, Rauni hadn't known, nor did she particularly care. All that she had known for certain was that she needed to get out of the house. To be away. Away from everything.

Her gaze had met the towering walls of the coliseum. Loud cheering echoed from within the stadium, signaling that the sparring matches must've already began. Rauni had known that some of her old comrades from the Legion had been set to partake in the day's event. Some from the third, others from the second. They were among the names that everyone knew; those of particular rank or status such as Sabina and Cassian, to name a few.

Regardless of who they were, however, she wanted to cheer them all on like she had done so before countless times in the past. Before her molliculus caseus had been stripped from her and slaughtered like a common animal.

But when Rauni stood at the coliseum gates, she hesitated. The memories flooded back. Felix had loved the coliseum. He was, after all, a son of Mars. Warfare called to him like wind and snow to Rauni. She could remember each and every time she joined him just to watch the occasional duel. They weren't something that Rauni particularly was interested in, but Felix—he loved the spectacle. And for Rauni, his happiness was what truly mattered.

She wanted to turn back. Her gut pleaded, and her heart begged to run away. Standing on those worn, stone steps no longer felt right. Not without Felix by her side. But it was the same back home. The quaint home they had hoped for was devoid of laughter and love. Staying there any longer and Rauni would've gone stir-crazy.

And so, Rauni forced herself to take a step. Then another. And one more. Before she knew it, she had made her way into the coliseum, and sat among hundreds if not thousands of spectators eager to watch the ongoing fight.

It was a start. Rauni didn't know how helpful it'd be, if at all. But regardless, today was a start, be it for the better or worse.
