Shinji: these people were on the verge of an existential war. They had already discovered other universes and had been trading with them centuries before i even got the chance to intervene. I am simply overseeing the process, making this go smoothly, and trying to avoid what the Crimson Armada had nearly done over the course of just a decade. Dont you think that they should be stopped?

While this may not benefit you, i think i know how to work this out. I am currently in bad standing with the EDB. The council believes that I may not be an adequate leader, due to the length of the war between us and the Crimson Armada. Its dwindiling supplies and causing economical problems. If I don't end it soon, the alliances formed to create the EDB will separate, leading to a power struggle between the allies under the EDB for complete control. I'm essentialy keeping them in line, but they are getting ansy. If Unity defeats her, and they find out, it could very well mean the end of the EDB.

I doubt that we happen to be in significantly more danger than we normally are.

Shinji: with the lives we lead now, they are constantly at risk at any given time. Any of us could die whenever, due to the steady increase of threats.

Increase of threats? I believe they are more perceived as an increase than an increase in reality.

Actually, it is. You said that id be putting our lives at risk. Im putting no ones lives at risk, because I'm not forcing anyone to do anything. I'm asking if people wpuld voluntarily put themselves at risk to help me rid existence of one of its most dangerous threats, because I myself cannot do it, alone.

That is putting the lives of others at risk. Whether they have the choice to comply or not does not affect the fact that their lives are at risk.
