I spend a lot of time around people who are just so gifted at so many things that I guess I just forgot that it’s okay to start from the bottom, in a sense.

Wanting to be irreplaceable makes it sound more selfish than I think it is. I just want to be able to fill some sort of role that I know I can do Better than others, so I know I’m doing the best I can.

I just want to actually make a difference, instead of thinking I’m making a difference. And without hurting anyone else to do it. I don’t really care how big it is, but it’s hard for me to convince myself that I’m doing something worthwhile if the next guy or gal in line for the job can do the same thing.
I think I understand what you mean. I also think that even though it might feel good to be irreplaceable, it's also worse for everyone who needs you.

There are people who need help, even though their lives aren't in any danger. Or if they are, there's nobody to care.
