I'll try to get it up tomorrow.
The king pondered on Markus’ question. Obviously he would want his own son to come out victorious. But the chances were slim. Between the experience of Lord Bornetall and the swift strikes of the Airgiallne warrior princess, the hulking knight stood little chance. He just wasn’t experienced enough yet. Then again, Elias has come around and surprised him before. “I dare not say, my friend. But such worries are for tomorrow.” With those words he rose from his chair and left the booth. The following skirmishes would be between lesser knights and noblemen. Games for the more common of folks. King Castor went towards his feast hall. Through clever positioning of the kitchens, the tasty smell of grilled fish and meat was swiftly mixing with the air of the hall. As the invited guests poured in, they were each assigned a place. As prepared, the Nastrondi people and those of the Vaalgard were kept separate. King Markus was once again allowed to sit on the main table next to King Castor, and his sisters next to both of King Castor’s sons.

The feast was cheerful and happy. There was plenty of wine and ale. Imrik, the crown prince of Sylvannyr was clearly enjoying the company of King Markus’ sister. Yet Elias, who had the task of entraining the second sister preferred to enjoy his meal rather ravenously and scan the hall for the Airgiallne warrior princess. At a moment, King Castor rose from his seat and ushered the hall to get silence. After some time, the noise was quiet enough to speak above it. “My dear friends! We have seen brave warriors fights and nimble knights win. The victors will continue on to the next round tomorrow. But for those beaten, there is still hope. One will be chosen, at random to still continue on to the next round.” A tankard with tokens in it, each representing one of the participants of the main event was brought before Castor. Who covered his eyes to prove he did not watch, rumbled in the tankard and pulled a token out.

At the far end of the main table, the strange hooded figure was seated. Eating her food in silence and keeping her face covered in shadows. Yet her delicate hands betrayed her gender to anyone observant enough.
The arena was swiftly constructed outside Euraith as noblemen were gathering from the neighboring countries. The banner hung high over the arena where soon knights and warriors would clash. The jousting arena was also swiftly constructed. Soon all sorts of entertainment flocked towards Euraith. Inns were getting filled extremely fast and did good business. While bards told their stories near hearth or campfire. Because many nobles from within Sylvannyr came too and they had no place within the city walls. Thus a rather large camp of tents rose outside the gates.

One the marked date, a large board was set up near the jousting and melee arena’s. The first round was a full melee one. It was declared that all matchmaking was done at random. Yet everyone who watched the board knew that wasn’t true.
- Lord Bornetall from Nastrond VS Fendar, Champion of Sylvannyr’s Reaver Knights
- The first Airgiallne male warrior VS Lord Bornetall’s oldest son
- One of the Toran Warriors VS Lord Bornetall’s second son
- The eldest prince of Vaalgard VS the second Airgiallne male warrior
- Elias, second son of Castor of Sylvannyr VS the second Toran Warrior
- The warrior princess of Airgiallne VS the first veteran from Vaalgard
- The second Vaalgardian veteran VS the third Toran Warrior.

King Castor apologizes to king Markus Northwood, as he is unable to change the matchmaking. But he does offer him the place at the table at his right, next to him during the feast at night before the melee. Thus making Markus the honored guest of the night. Additionally he offered a place for one of his daughters next to Imrik, the Sylvannyr crown prince who would be sit left from Castor. The last daughter was offered a place next to her father on the main table during the feast. There were also several smaller tournaments being organized to keep the people happy. Even a complete free-for-all melee.

During the planning of the feast Castor made sure to keep the table of Nastrond and Vaalgard as far away as possible. Keeping several tables filled with guests between them. On the long expected day, Imrik and his father entered the booth with a mysterious hooded figure. And thus the first game began.
King Castor was surprisingly saddened by the Vaalgard king’s response. Sylvannyr’s economy has always been fairly strong, so they could suffer the blow. But never the less, the coffers got hit. The king knew that the time of easy peace and comfortably, mundane, good but stagnant relations was over. Enemies would be formed, and in a response, good allies would be required. Especially if Sylvannyr would desire peace when all their neighbors seems to desire peace. Thus Castor began to develop a plan. He has a daughter, still unwed. He has two sons, also unwed.

Aline was a dream princess. Elegant, fair, smart and beautiful. Just like her mother. While she had not learned the art of seduction yet, she did turn the heads of several knights and lords at court. Through her he knew he could secure a strong alliance.

His second son, Elias, was less so. A strong knight on the field. Not so much in jousting as in sword dueling. Elias grew up to be much bigger than his older brother. Much stronger too. The man wielded a bastard sword with ease, and has been known to try the great sword as of late. But he was rude and arrogant. Taking the favor of ladies as granted and ate like an animal. His time for wedlock seemed still far out of reach.

So instead of giving his troops the order to march forward, he ordered them to simply strengthen the southern border. Furthermore, he send messages to Vaalgard, Airgiallne, Toran, Gnyr Shalorn and Nastrond. All invites for the tournament that would soon take place. A sizeable sum was promised to the winner of the joust and duels. Each nation was allowed to send 3 knights and their retinue to fight for their country. He did not know what Gnyr Shalorn’s response would be. They were a scorned nation now. Denied to expand their borders. Castor expected them to not accept the invitation. Never the less he didn’t invite Noatun. First he knew the men of the island were sailors, not knights on horseback or wielding valiant swords in combat. And if Gnyr Shalorn did come, then there was no saying what could happen. With the same kind of fear he did invite Nastrond and Vaalgard. Knowing full well he was setting a potential stage for more conflict. Never the less he had to find suitable candidates for an alliance. Though he held that reason out of his letters.
Castor ordered a council of his most trusted advisors. Each holding much experience in several fields and often excelled in one or two. Almost all advisors agreed upon that Sylvannyr had no obligation to help out either nation. The advisor of trade, joined by Admiral Caledon, explained that there was on benefit from blockading the port. Furthermore, the economic impact would be troublesome to say the least. Castor took heed of this advice, and decided not to engage with the fleet.

Admiral Lagare was a damn cheerful mood. Even when her top ranking SIF trooper was downed. She still managed something that nobody before her could. Even now 2 Large Boarding Vessels were returning with the spoils of war. The most important one carried not only Ashtar shielding technology, but also 2 live Ashtar. The buggers were notoriously hard to kill and even harder to capture. It was very apparent that most Ashtar preferred suicide over getting captured. Something Helen would never understand. She loved living too much. Especially now.

But all that changed with a single sound. Static. Her head snapped towards the holo-table. The familiar FTL static was all over the place. Consuming her Thrones and several other ships. She raised an eyebrow in confusion, when then one of her operators said some very dire words.
“Thrones reporting sub light engine damage. Both lost 80% speed.”
“What!? Get me a status update. Now!” She yelled for the entire bridge.
It was obvious something went horribly wrong. The 3D static began to clear up slowly but surely. In its wake it left the debris of 2 Virtues and a Dominion Cruiser. But admiral Lagare cared not for that. The Ashtar Technology could easily pay those back. What made her scream in maddening anger was the complete disappearance of the Ashtar Cruiser.
“Where is the god damn cruiser!” She shrieked in her bridge.
“Virtues visually confirming that the cruiser is gone.” One operator stated.
“I can see that! Where did it go! Did it jump!?”
“No DSBB signal ma’am.”
“Admiral…Virtues reported a bright blue flash. Considering the damage, the captains suspect that…the Ashtar destroyed themselves.”
The news came to the admiral like an unexpected right hook. For a moment she stood there. Dumbfounded. Even with the 3 tactical stimulant pills her brain could not or would not process the news. But when it did, she moved with the cold fury only a woman can have. She went towards her desk, with her face like a mask. But once she was near it, she screamed and yelled. With both her arms she sweeped the desk. Launching screens, holo-tablets, papers, a desk lamp and several pens into the air. Only her coffee cup remained. Which she grabbed and launched at the counter. Shattering both the cup and damaging the counter board. It took her a few seconds to find her composure again.
“Call Seraphim-command. Tell them to hold back on second Cherubim fleet for support. But do inform them that we will hot jump towards The Observer.”
“Yes, Admiral.”
“Get all remaining Boarding Vessels and X-3 back in the hangar.”

Her fate was sealed. She would have to face the Anurian Echelon board. Echelon boards were installed as director oversight for military actions. A single planet battle should normally only have an Echelon 5 level. Echelon 4 meant that the entire system was a battle zone. Which wasn’t entirely true for Anuria considering most combat was done in orbit or on the surface. Not on any other planet nearby. Echelon 3 boards were created when the concerned area is about as big as a cluster of stars. Echelon 2 boards were only used when fighting an empire larger than a few clusters. Which often meant it was very expensive. Never the less, the constant fighting, the involvement of the Ashtar and that of a few other factions meant that Anuria deserved an Echelon 2 board. Who were notorious for their cold numbers and statistics. Many High-Admirals and Admirals have found themselves stripped of their position because a battle’s cost was too high. Now Miss Lagare feared the same might happen to her. Not because of a too high cost, but because she let slip a priced trophy.
This time Castor himself wrote the letter.

King of Gnyr Shalorn

The Celestial Empire is broken. I, King Castor, do not recognize your claim of Emperorship. Therefor I do not accept your Casus Belli against Noatun. Even worse, your claim of Emperorship would give you claim over my lands. Are you declaring war to Sylvannyr, king? Further, know that starting a conquest against Noatun would mean starvation. No grain will flow from Sylvannyr to your people and I will insist upon my allies that they too seize all trade with you.

The letter was brief and stern. Written in regal red ink only used by King Castor himself. In it, he refused to use the word emperor. Maybe one day another great man would rise again. Uniting the kingdoms once more. Though King Castor did not expect that to happen in his life time. He sealed the letter with the stamp of Sylvannyr and handed it to his advisor. Who was to send it to Gnyr Shalorn. But the king would not sit idle. He ordered Lord Caledon, the High-Admiral, to start a fleet exercise in the strait of Turgai and another one in the strait of Valais.
“Silence!” Echoed through the grand throne room of King Castor. “I will not allow an audience to be disturbed. If you have something to say, you wait your turn!” he said to the Shalorni ambassador. Then he turned to the messenger. “Don’t you dare to call the Shalorni people a common enemy. I bare them no hostility.” With his loud booming voice he silenced the place. Castor had often been called a very aggressive pacifist. Enforcing peace everywhere he ruled, sometimes through swift and exceptionally harsh action. When he was younger, dissident was common among Sylvannyr. The village people thought they could get more for their grain. The Reaver Knights made of 2 towns an example. But peace was not only kept through a mailed fist. Lords were forced to listen to the wishes of their people.

He turned to the older advisor: “You are right. Send a message to the king of Gnyr Shalorn. Tell them that Noutun belongs to the Noutoni King. But also offer him the possibility to show his Casus Belli.” The advisor made a small bow and went off. Writing the letter and sending it with a dove straight towards Gnyr Shalorn. He turned once more towards the messenger and the ambassador and said: “For now, Sylvannyr stands with Nouton. A war against them, is a war against us.”
