Noble Arms is now either four years old, or three years and eleven months. The third thread had lasted for more than one year.

My Roleplay, Noble Arms: The ASEAN War, will reach its 4th year in June or July. It's been a long journey.

Despite its massive flaws, my RP, Noble Arms: The ASEAN War, is still one of the longest ongoing RPs in RPGuild - It turns 4 years old in July and the current thread itself is more than a year old.

Name: Colin Cooper

Species: Human

Age: 18

Appearance:

Reason for Imprisonment: Alleged possession and use of drugs; Colin continues to protest innocence and medical diagnostics have shown that he is clean, but the relevant doctor did not appear at Colin's trial; another doctor who had a different, probably faked set of medical reports was at the witness stand instead. Not helping is the fact that judicial system in Armania moves really slow and the real culprit is rich and well-connected enough to keep the wheels of justice turning in his favor.

Equipment: The clothes on his back and whatever mining equipment that his overseers see fit to entrust him.

Skills: Colin is an engineering student with a minor in architecture; in practical terms, this means that he can see the weak and strong points of a structure or machine, operate basic equipment, and know some programming skills. He also knows droidspeak. Other skills are singing and sketching, the latter for both practical (blueprints and schematics) and artistic reasons. And of course, he can - theoretically - repurpose mining equipment into weapons and disable mechanical/electronic safeguards against revolt.

Weaknesses: Colin is naive, physically weak, and despite having lived through the Seperatist occupation, sheltered from the worst aspects of the world. Therefore, being imprisoned and enslaved is a shock to him, having to endure hard and brutal conditions, even more so. Not merely that, but he is naturally submissive, so it takes someone else to plant the seed of revolt in him. And finally, he is afraid of fire and high temperatures, of being burnt alive; he does not like the idea that Human flesh cooks just as well as that of animals.

History: Colin was born to an upper-middle-class family within Erion Clan. Raised in an atmosphere of optimistic privilege, the boy was meek but showed promise in his studies. Bullied in school at an early age because of his small and thin build, he had to rely on his elder sister, Lisa, to protect him; she did so using her loud voice to shout down those who used insults and teasing while reporting to the teachers those who resorted to physical violence. This had the effect of both ensuring a peaceful and happy childhood for Colin and causing him to grow 'soft'.

Nevertheless, the optimistic life continued and Colin decided to try and get into a University run by the Alaxian Clan, which still exceeded the Erion clan in the creation and use of 'practical' technology. This was hard because the Clans were in a state of cold war with each other then. However, the Clan member who controlled said University was open to intelligent and scientific minds from all Clans (some speculated that he was merely trying to poach them for his own group) and accepted Colin when the latter aced his entrance exams.

Then came the Seperatist occupation; during which the University Facilities were put to work repairing droids and basic low-priority communications technology in exchange for being left relatively untouched. Colin learned a lot about Seperatist technology from helping maintain droids and basic radios, and even learn modern droidspeak. But despite that, Colin knew that the Seperatists were an occupying force and he was only helping them for his family's sake; while he avoided being treated cruelly, he knew that that was only because he was needed. Droids were cold and unfeeling, and the slightest misstep was the difference between comfort and pain; he hated it.

And when the Empire finally came and restored things to normal, Colin was one of the first to welcome them, confident that he can go on leave from the University at last; to his parents and sister, who had grown into a great beauty. And for a while, all was happy.

Then, said sister got a boyfriend, a rich nobleman who was one of the sons of the Clan Ylarn head. This would have been a moment of joy, and their parents clearly treated it as such due to the opportunity to form an alliance with an up-and-coming power. But Colin quickly noticed that the rich noble was abusive and unfaithful and that his sister cannot just shout him down because then she would be punished by her family and even clan.

Even worse, it turned out that his sister's boyfriend wanted to cheat on her with Colin himself, due to the latter's good looks. Colin refused, and in a moment of defiance, he threatened to use every means he could to persuade his sister to leave him; the two can just defect to Clan Alaxian if the noble tried to make life in Clan Erion unbearable. In response, the rich young man said:

"Enjoy one last long lonely night under the stars, then," before turning to go. Sure enough, one starry night later, Campus Police arrested Colin when the latter tried to go back to the University to pursue a new course in 'Modern Galactic Tech' and ask for the Headmaster's help in his upcoming defection. A local form of Spice had been found in his toolbox, hidden in a small tube; enough grounds for an arrest. Colin protested his innocence; his Headmaster and the campus doctors stood with him but Clans Ylarn and Erion purposefully had Clan Alaxian's head exclude them from the trial.

And with that, the young man was imprisoned in one of Armania's prisons...on his eighteenth birthday, to boot.
I meant his views which extended to "treat pows and civs ok"

Again, my bio said those views were only a minority of Academy students...

Edit: Yes, resolved.
@DeadDrop, And, just to state it in public; I acknowledge your criticism, I acted on it, and I thank you for it. I am sorry for being so brittle and I am glad you kept on talking with me despite that.
I'm not insulting you.

<Snipped quote by Letter Bee>

"Alexander slowly began to realize that his views were that of a minority"

Minority = unpopular.

Thats what i was saying and what i saw bro.

A minority among his peers, not the people of the Empire as a whole.
2) idk
5) propganda for an unpopular opinion. That makes no sense. If he sided the populat opinion maybe. Again shamimg = not high family for long boyo.
6) Dont think so
7) i didnt say they werent im just stating ur going up against alot of angry big boys
8) ??? I just said he might be goated i didnt say im.lookin 2 contradict u.
Idk bro i think the court of popular opinion will corpse him not a sniper

5.) What is an unpopular opinion among the officers might be popular among the people.

2) didnt know we were playing the officer game
3) ok the reader has no clue of the notation of the nick name at all. To them its just a nickname that goes unused and dosent have a purpose. Besides distinguishing him as some ambigious officer from the academy.
4) how would the reader understand this from the first read. You dont bring it up in your story nor mention the removal lf bleeding hearts.
5) "high up in imperial court" but they dont mind getting shamed for their son. They arent going to be high if they have buddy taking Ls with his activism and siding with the unpopular opinion.
6) military law is military law. Im not sure how feudal you think the army is becausd i dont think it really is. The honor and honor duels are all from you, not myke.
7) you portray alot of cadets and already-officers as corrupt. Surpised alex hasent been assasinated for his duels and stuff already. Considering he is the 'minority'
8) or they sent him to be the scape goat to their fuckery.

2.) I thought officers were allowed/Mecha Pilots were automatically officers.
3.) Will do further edits.
4.) Edited already.
5.) I am not sure about that; it could be that Alex provides a good propaganda opportunity to show how 'honorable' the Earth Empire is, and he's allowed to get away with his actions because they haven't cut too deep yet; it's a big empire.
6.) Isn't the Earth Empire based on the 19th Century British Empire, but with futuristic tech? Duels were common among officers there, if I recall correctly.
7.) The corruption is detailed in the Int Check OP itself; where it says that a lot of officials are corrupt. Also, see 8.).
8.) That does not contradict what I said. And this might be the time Alexander gets assassinated.
Hi.... its me.
You asked for CRITIQUE on discord.

Ok

-anime avatar ??? We will see myke's policy on big anime when he is awake...
- academy - is this officers academy bro? When did he enter. Academy = basic training?
- how did he get his nick name bleeding heart and why.
- why is he called geneva but not bleeding heart does he have 2 nicknames.
- low rank soldier sides and speaks a public unpopular opinion. Wouldent this shame his aristocratic family.
- enlisted soldier challenging officers to duels for what are essentially war crimes instead of reporting them to judicial authorities. Yes u can say "they r officers they'd walk" but u could say u used your aristocratic power to get the mps on them.
- duel of honor. Does the loser die. If so why. Also presumed enlisted soldier dueling officers.
- too out spoken. Why would they pick him, he has a history of objecting to questionable conduct and also dueling officers. Why would they pick someone who from a outsider standpoint has a authority problem / sandbags anything that might harm pows or civs.

Hope this helped.

1.) I can change it.
2.) Officer's Academy, which includes basic training, but also tactics and strategy. And he entered at 16 as a cadet.
3.) Let's just say that he had a few too many confrontations with other students as regards 'the honorable way of doing things'.
4.) I was trying to imply that his nickname changed.
5.) Low-ranking officer, actually; he already has some standing. As for shaming his family, normally yes, but the Greys stand by their family due to their belief in their responsibilities.
6.) The war crimes get MPs and judicial action. Mere corruption (lining pockets with money meant for the war effort) gets duels.
7.) Duel is only until first blood or unconsciousness.
8.) I think Myke implied that the peace talks are going to get ambushed by someone or something, or otherwise derailed. My own personal view is that the Earth Empire knows their diplomats are going to get attacked in the course of the RP, and hopes Alexander gets killed in the process.

History: Colin was born to a well-off, but not too well-off family from Armania's upper middle class. Raised in an atmosphere of optimistic privilege, the boy was meek, but showed promise in his studies. His elder sister, Lisa, protected him from bullies as they grew up; this had the effect of both ensuring a peaceful childhood for Colin and causing him to grow 'soft'. This University, ran by a more intellectual clan, was yet another happy place, and one that avoided the attention of the Confederacy of Independent Systems when they showed up.

Thus, Colin remained safe and sound as the world outside grew grimmer, his only source of knowledge of the outside world being occassional contact with his family. And when the Empire finally came and restored things to normal, Colin was one of the first to welcome them, confident that he can go back to his parents and sister now. And for a while, all was happy.

Then, said sister got a boyfriend, a rich nobleman connected to the most powerful Clan. He had been framed for possession of a local form of Spice, and was now going to be arrested. Colin protested his innocence, but alas, the dapper young aristocrat had connections with the Empire itself.

And with that, the young man was imprisoned in one of Armania's prisons...on his eighteenth birthday, to boot.
