Beside the wrecked ambulance

At the sound of the girl's soothing words, Sophia opened her eyes slightly. The girl's face, as well as that of the old man, swam into view. She tried to crawl back, but the strength had left her limbs. Curling up, she continued humming, more loudly this time. It was working. She was causing no further damage to her surroundings, and hadn't hurt anyone.

Breathing as deeply as she could manage, she looked up again at the two strangers. The bald man gave her a reassuring smile. She cringed, her gaze darting away from his for a second. If she'd heard him right, he'd mentioned being in charge of a gym... This was the Mesalon gym leader, and here she was, looking utterly helpless. From what had just happened, he'd know she was a psychic, but that was not how she was meant to demonstrate her abilities. She could imagine how thoroughly disappointed her family would be.

"I-I'm ok," she choked out, trying to piece together her shattered facade. She glanced over at Oscar, letting out an empty laugh. "Interesting? Th-That's putting it mildly."

She thought of the few other parts of the conversation that had registered. Team Noble... The team mentioned in the news report earlier could have been behind this. They were even more of a threat than she'd thought.

Amber frowned as she listened. "I knew that wasn't normal behaviour for an Aerodactyl," she said. Despite having seen some of the fossil Pokemon her mother had revived, this was the first time she'd seen an Aerodactyl, but her research didn't match what she'd witnessed just now. The thought that somebody would drive a Pokemon crazy like that was just sickening.

She turned back towards the psychic girl, who seemed to have calmed down enough to stay in control. Now, Sophia was clearly putting up a defensive act. Amber gave a slightly awkward smile. How could she comfort someone in this situation? She had to try. "It shouldn't be long now," she said. "I hear Mesalon's a nice little town. Peaceful, yet with plenty of activities."

Lan had given her some reassurance, but she still listened out for sirens, hoping the ambulance would arrive soon.

By the time the greenery the two trainers explored became thicker and more overgrown, the rays filtering through the trees had dimmed, yet what little light remained cast a golden glow over the area. This place really did have a magical feel to it.

Peering into the shadows, Cici watched out for any fairy Pokemon. None yet, but the forest was alive with bugs. Weedles crawled along tree branches, and a Spinarak skittered across the ground. Cici stepped back as what looked like a Dustox fluttered past.

She laughed with Tommy. "If they're scared of anyone, it'll be me," she said, looking down at her clunky boots. Her hair had dried badly, frizzing everywhere as if she'd had a run-in with an electric type. She had to take a hairband from her bag and tie it back so it would stop snagging on twigs.

The light was quickly fading as the sun sank lower towards the horizon, but Cici didn't mind. From what she'd heard, the night was the best time to look for certain fairy types.

Ella's pace slowed, becoming less of a skip and more of a shuffle, as she passed by the familiar cottage silhouetted against the pink sky. From the outside, it looked like a pleasant little house, with its thatched roof and well-kept rose garden. That was exactly what it was, though... a house, not a home. Nothing more than yet another image her mother projected.

It was with mixed emotions that she looked over at the building, breathing in the floral scent. She no longer had to put up with the comments, the disapproving glares, the pressure to change, from her mother and sisters. Yet this was her family.

Forcing herself to look away, she continued along her path. Her bounce returned as she thought of her new friend. She could just imagine what her sisters would say. The things they called her, especially since she'd befriended the Trubbish... "Garbage Girl", "Smelly Elly"... It didn't matter any more, though. She had the Pokemon she wanted, and that was the important thing.
