Bio

Howdy all! I figured it was about time I spruced up my bio section. Or, y'know. Wrote something in it other than WIP.

So! Things to know about my mostly-good self:

I'm a 20 year old female, hailing from a not-so-small town in the north east of England. I'm currently about a third through my second year at Uni, and have made some awesome friends there so far. I also debate. That's always fun - arguing has always been an annoying trait (for others, that is) of mine, so putting it into something one can have on their CV is great. The competitions are super fun too. Anyway, roleplaying.

If you've known me for a short or long while, you'll likely know what an absolute slut for fantasy I am. High fantasy to low, I love those kind of roleplays and will nearly always be interested in new ones that crop up. The same applies for Sci-Fi, but at the moment, I'm not feeling inspiration for a good ol' spacefaring RP. Gotta get the Mass Effect out again, get me craving some Turian booty again. However, I won't go for only these ones. SoL can interest me if they're run properly, alongside horror, mystery, romance, etc. I won't ignore something simply because it doesn't have magic or flying bears in it or something. As for level, I like to consider my writing high-casual to low-advanced. Hopefully others will agree with me on that one, haha. Anyway, here's a list of specific fandoms I enjoy, kind of in order of preference:

  • Lord of the Rings Universe (Including The Hobbit)
  • Dragon Age series
  • Elder Scrolls
  • Mass Effect Trilogy
  • Star Trek (I'd love a Discovery one right now!)
  • Star Wars (Specifically the time around the Prequels; while I shan't get into the whole Prequel/Original war on which is better, roleplaying makes for more excitement in the prequel era. Clone Wars guys, c'mon!)
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  • Fringe
  • Greek Mythology (PJO, but with the amount of Camp Half-Blood roleplays that have come and gone, I'd prefer one based more on the Original Mythologies)
  • Norse Mythology
  • Marvel
  • Left 4 Dead
  • The Walking Dead (Or any Post-Apocalypse Roleplay, really.)
  • 'A Song of Ice and Fire' Series
  • House of Night Series
  • True Blood
  • Deus Ex
  • Blood Ties
  • The Vampire Diaries (I admittedly abandoned the show and books when the plot got too boring, but I still like the Universe. I'd join a roleplay based in it, if it had original characters, that is.)
  • Pacific Rim

Aaannndd I'll stop the list here before I go on forever. Basically there's a lot, particularly in the realm of fantasy. Hit me up if you want me in your roleplay, of if you'd like to do a 1x1 based around any of those areas, or even some additional ones if you think I'd be interested. I love original plots and Universes too, especially if they're done well.

Current Active Roleplays:

The Elder Scrolls: Fruits of Contention
The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion - Crimson Skies (GM)

Unless @Peik is interested in having Sadri try and save the day again (Wouldn't blame him and the others for just chilling out after that epic fight against the Kamal tho), Roze won't be able to open up the doors without someone who knows about smithing. Unless @Dervish can recommend an alternative way of getting the doors open, I'll just have Roze do something else. :)
@Caits@Vicier

Great, thanks for the feedback! Glad you guys think he's alright.

I think I got everything, do let me know if I forgot to add/change something. Also, I'm open to relationship discussions - particularly that of Angela - between Virgil and characters. It would be nice to establish something before posting in the IC is all.

@MiddleEarthRoze
I have a few things.

First, you can't just skip university/college and go straight into a medical PhD-you still got to do the work, even if you are a genius. He'd have to go to college first, get the medical degree and then go into a medical PhD. I've gone to double check that this is the same in america as it is here.

I never once mentioned that he skipped University? In fact, I've mentioned University several times in his backstory, I simply stated that he fast-tracked his degree due to his intellect. However, perhaps I could clarify that he did a medical degree, and then went on to his Doctorate - I didn't think the specifics would matter as long as everyone could connect the dots. Also, he's not in America. As stated, he grew up in France; I did some research to see how their schooling system worked, hence why I've put High School and not Secondary School/Sixth Form. 'Tis one and the same over there, or at the very least rolled together.

secondly

"After de-constructing and refitting a Valkyrie suit to something that would be of more use to him, Virgil lined the entire thing, helmet and all, with an improved Faraday Mesh. The technology involved makes him immune to energy attacks, electricity attacks, and EMPs for a certain amount of time. Obviously, a constant barrage will cause the mesh to overload, leaving him vulnerable until the suit repairs itself."

This seems like an overpowered passive to have. Even Bastion only has a shield in sentry form. Or ultimate form. Its basiclly having him immune to hacking in that suit, and it makes some characters useless when attacking him. Yes, it has a weakness, but if he's fighitng with comrades, his opponents aren't going to have much of a chance to disable the suit. It essentially makes him able to take down anyone before they can even do minimal damage on him.

Everything else...I can't really see nything else, although I'll have a better look at it later at home, seems alright.

Agreed - I was unsure on my powers, so if I were to make it more limited - say, only immune to energy attacks (Or lasers, for lack of a better word) for a limited amount of time, would that be more acceptable? Then he'd be vulnerable to EMP's, hacking, and after a short amount of time, normal energy attacks?

Except:

"A stunning grenade, but just a wee bit more effective than your average one. It assaults the senses, targeting the inner ear by hitting frequencies more than a human can handle; symptoms include dizziness, nausea, and inability to focus for a certain amount of time. It's not too kind on the eyes either, just as a regular flashbang works."

From a medical and nursing point of view, to have the inner ear targetted, and at such a grequency that the human ear can't handle it generally means you're going to blow out ear drums. You're going to do permement damage, and essentailly take out your opponent in one blow, because its not something you can just bounce back from. Yes, those symptoms are correct. But it will be on a much larger scale-a delibilitating injury that takes opponents out of battle for...a good looong time. And I could find the research that would support this, but a} I'm too tired and b] Uni's internet sucks.

I too didn't do research to back this up, what with the vagueness behind other people's powers/abilities who have already been accepted, I didn't think this would be under scrutiny. However, I know that the inner ear can be affected without permanent damage; the symptoms listed can continue after the cause is gone for a few seconds, just as with any form of trauma. I didn't mention any burst ear-drums because the flashbangs won't cause burst ear-drums. How? Well, some kind of super-powered tech that I can't explain, nor does the Overwatch Universe. It's no more unlikely to have that Mercy's resurrection/healing powers, which also aren't explained.

EDIT: Also, my wording may be to blame here. "more than a human can handle" was meant to indicate a high enough frequency that is detrimental, but not incapacitating to the degree you've assumed. I can re-word it, if you like?

@Vicier@Caits

Finally finished my first OC! The formatting isn't as pretty as it was on Sombra's, but hey, at least I've tried. I hope Mercy likes her new, estranged family member.

Roze be without her smithing companion to try and bust down the doors - is she unable to succeed with the task of lockpicking alone doing the job? If so, I'm open to collabs for something elee for her to do rather than hide in the hold.
There'll be a delay in my Sombra post and my (finally) finished relative of Mercy sheet. Currently at a very fun debating competition, but my god does it drain you.
@Frizan

Excellent char! I have no worries about it, and unless @Leos Klien does, you're free to pop her in the CS tab. However, I wouldn't have considered 26 to be that young. Is she only called "child" because of her smaller than usual appearance?

Location: Talon HQ, LA
Interacting with: Peacere @Kaithas, Sampson @Tominas

----------------- -----------------

Sombra enjoyed watching the Discovery Channel. Being one enraptured by puzzles and riddles, the channel held plenty of documentaries and docu-dramas for her to sink her inquisitive teeth into. Many of them were trashy, and badly acted, but with the stories behind them true, she couldn't resist watching them till the end to find out if she was right. It was only five minutes into this one that she'd figured out the murderer. Some South African shrink with a mysteriously ill wife? Well, it was obvious. Sombra couldn't help but hold back a laugh as she continued to watch.

"Insulin, the perfect way to kill somebody? And he thought he was being clever. Idiota." She scoffed quietly, both to herself and the python lazing on her lap; Hermes' tongue flicking lazily into the air in response as he curled further around her crossed legs. Perhaps people were simply less intelligent two decades ago? Paper trails, evidence, taking out life insurance policies prior to death... it was embarrassing to watch, especially for a master of cover-ups like herself. Either way, she was happy to get the correct answer, regardless of how obvious it had seemed to her. As the show came to an end, she minimised the page with a flick of her wrist, the movement swiftly turning into a cat-like stretch that got her spine cracking.

"C'mon guapo. Back to your hidey-hole." Gently untangling Hermes from her lap, Sombra stood up with a yawn, placing him back in his vivarium before had a chance to wrap himself around her arms and body as he tended to do. Lightly "booping" his snout before replacing the lid, the hacker turned back to her computer, stretching once again. She'd spent most of the night awake, dealing with... business. If anyone asked her, she'd been watching her murder mysteries all night. In reality, she was attempting to stop some death. Waving her hand again, a gruff, familiar face filled the screen, paired with the words that would provide nothing but trouble for the guy. "Stupid Cowboy always getting himself into trouble." She sighed, a smile quirking her lips. Normally, she'd have no worries for anyone in this situation, but McCree had helped her out before. Excellent drinking partner too - but with the bounty as high as it had been? Dios Mio, he was in some real trouble now. Sombra had done what she could with the bounty; lowering it from a much higher stake before it had been released to make sure nobody too professional tried to take him out. Still, $60 million was a lot of money. Knowing all too well about the greedy nature of humans, Sombra could already envision people going to stupidly long lengths just to try and bring Jesse in alive - or dead. Either way, other people would likely be caught in the crossfire. Deciding it would be best to keep an eye open for news, Sombra opened up a new programme, fingers dancing across the holographic keypads as she inputted instructions.

Sombra sighed again, this time more exasperated than concerned. Naturally, there was plenty both on the internet and in her own files about any of the following things she had searched. Especially in regards to Overwatch and all of the juicy things she'd uncovered about it. All of these murder mysteries and real-life puzzles she had read about or watched, and here she was, living in the biggest one of all. Leaning over against the desktop, manicured nails tapping rhythmically against the hard surface, Sombra tried again.

A small, purple skull was all that now remained on the screen, and Sombra allowed herself a smile as it rotated and bounced around, akin to a screensaver. At least if any information came through, either through leaks, hacks or her own "friends", she'd be the first to hear about it. While doubtful she'd herself would go all the way out there to aid McCree, there would be something or someone to hack to give him some kind of fighting chance. And while she waited? Breakfast!

Closing and locking everything down in her office before leaving, it didn't take long for Sombra to go back to her room, look presentable, and already be on her way out into the main facility with a plate of food. Someone up top didn't appreciate her eating her meals in supposed "sterile areas" or "sensitive rooms", but she didn't care. Sombra ate her rancher's eggs wherever pleased her. The smell seemed to be pleasing other people too; simply walking by several Talon operatives with her trademark mischievous smile, their eyes followed her plate as she ambled past them. Chili, spices, beans, and a fresh tortilla all topped with fried eggs. It was rare to find food that good in America; from what she had seen, there were too many white people out there who only used salt and pepper to season their cooking - and what a truly tragic thing that was. Speaking of tragic, Talon's current robo-boy came into her line of sight as she continued her walk. Omnics had no sense of taste or smell, as far as she knew - what a terrible existence. Still, one can't miss what they've never experienced.

Walking up to Peacere and their newest addition Sampson, Sombra scooped another mouthful of breakfast into her mouth before settling on a nearby desk, one leg thrown over the other as she swallowed.

"Hola! You boys have anything planned today? People to kill? Battles to fight?" She paused, glancing at Peacere with a teasing smirk. "Joints to oil?"
@Tominas
Oh, absolutely! It doesn't affect other people's characters at all. But I'm a big ol' stickler was accurate writing, especially when it comes to things I have a real interest in, such as medicine. I never demanded it should be changed - I just couldn't stand by and let something possibly be perceived as genuine or original when it wasn't. I'll apologise again to @Vicier, I probably came across as aggressive, which I really shouldn't have. I suppose we're all protective of our interests, is all!
@Vicier

I agree with @Jacobite. It's dialogue with NPC's, and doesn't affect anybody else's character, so it can certainly wait until you've had some rest. I never demanded that you change it immediately, I was simply pointing out the flaws in what I assumed was your finished post. I apologise if I came across as too demanding.
