@knight125 Kijani cast a puzzled look at John, but she gave him a nod as he left. Turning her attention to Anthony, she shook her head a bit. "Friends? What friends? I have Connor, but he isn't just a friend. Everyone else is... well, they're just..." She didn't have the right word. "If I had succeeded, who would have noticed? And what of me would be missed? I was just another student with a mediocre power." No one knew who she really was. Sometimes, she barely knew. There were things in her that she'd dismissed as useless years ago. Her love of dancing, not as a form of combat, but for the sheer joy of it. The way she could devour campy sci-fi and fantasy novels, and reread them in her own mind when she was bored. The times when she dreamed of the future, when she dreamed of maybe, just maybe, having her own family, but then the cold, bitter pain when she reminded herself that the choice had been taken, ripped free from her years ago... "What the hell is remarkable about someone like me? I can't fight anymore. I can't fake it anymore. I'm nothing, Anthony." She curled into herself, trying to stop the tears.
@knight125 Kijani shook her head slightly, her eyes empty. "I can't do anything for you, Anthony. And I'm invisible to people like you unless I can do something. I can't do anything. I'm... I'm not anything." She shut her eyes, tears starting to slide down her face. "There's nothing left." @Eviledd1984 "I know you're scared, Nick. It's going to be okay. Your mother's in the school, now. You can... you can learn from her. Phoebe's here, too." She'd seen Phoebe wander away, but noticed that she was on the way back. "You have family. And you've got at least one friend. I'll be here, too." She smiled broadly, reaching out to briefly muss his hair before pulling back. "Fear doesn't make you weak, Nick. Fear makes you human."
@knight125 Kijani opened her mouth to say that her needing help at all was the entire problem. At that moment, Anthony walked in, and what she wanted to say flew from her mind. Her mouth shut, abruptly, and she subconsciously curled. She did look up at him, though. Her gaze was steady, but her eyes were empty of any courage or confidence. "Go away, Anthony. There's no tool or weapon left for you, nothing of use, here."
@Eviledd1984 Devika froze up at Nick hugged her. She didn't want him that close, not with so much emotion around. But she knew better than to move. She didn't want him to think that there was something wrong about him. That'd be a lot worse. She shut her eyes and let him rest on her, and tried to keep her emotional blocks strong. "It's okay, Nick." Her voice probably sounded quite strange. "You didn't do anything wrong."
I see. Well, I posted. Kijani's back to herself. Now deeply ashamed... and too exhausted for arguing. Now might be the only time she's able to listen to reason since the incident.
@Caits Kijani blinked at him, some of the light starting to return to her gaze. "School?" Frowning, she looked around again, slower. Her eyes fixed on John, her mouth opened, and out came. "Hey, Muscles..." She seemed surprised at her own speech, and then rubbed her face, hard. Quite suddenly, the paper that had been chaotically moving around the room stopped. It fluttered to the ground, nothing but harmless sheets again. "...shit." Suddenly there were tears in her eyes, and shame written all over her. "You know, too, John? Does the whole school know how much of a loser I am?"
@knight125 o.o He did? Huh. I didn't know that. My bad.
Devika was holed up in one of the interrogation rooms, trying to remember to breathe. She could hear movement in the building, but was too afraid to go and see what it was. All she'd been able to do so far was to get here, where she figured there would be order in the chaos. All her life, she'd been taught that the police were guardians, protectors, the ones to go to when trouble was happening. Of course, her parents were both in the legal business, and worked closely with police to maintain order and justice. Right now, there seemed to be neither order nor justice. There was just her, a chubby girl from Florida, clutching a metal bar that she'd found earlier. It had been ripped off the bottom of a table, and had a nasty edge to it. She didn't know what good it would do against one of those... things... but if someone human tried to hurt her, well, they'd be surprised. Hopefully. To think, a month ago she had begged her parents to help her finance this trip, so she could enjoy the writer's retreat. A new environment, new people, new ideas, and connections. Well, she'd certainly gotten some of those. The environment was hell on earth, and some of the people were no longer people. The few ideas she had were all geared toward getting her out of the police station in one piece. The only connection she was hoping for now was the one that kept her head attached to her shoulders. Inhaling slowly, she stood on shaking legs. Maybe she could get around the confrontation, and out of the station.
@knight125 Red eyes and canine teeth? That's mastery? My my, how the Luthor brand has declined.
@Caits Kijani flinched slightly as she was touched, but seemed to come a bit more 'awake' at the sound of Connor's voice. "...C-connor?" She blinked several times, and fixed her gaze on his face. "Connor, you're okay! They let you go? Connor, we have to-- we have to run, Connor!" Picking herself up, she gripped his arm with the force of a terrified child. "They'll come back, and then it'll be me on the table, come on!"
