Amarantha was surprised to find that many children running around a place like this. Some of them even looked like her; just much smaller. This Lady Wright seemed like the real deal. That was somewhat of akin to a miracle in her book. Between the music and her prescence, she found herself relaxing just a bit more.

At Athena's insistence (re: poking her in the head), she raised her hand slowly. "I can track Hydes. I think I may be able to track you all too. There are some red threads that I can't work out." Athena nudged her further.

"Oh. That's my magic. I work with thread. It's ironic." She wasn't going to explain the irony at this moment.
Kijani frowned as Han tried to bring up Alderaan several times, and failed. “This is very strange, indeed.” Why was it so cold in here?

They came out of hyperspace then, and Kijani saw the sights with her own eyes. One, a mess of rocks and asteroid, and two, an empty space where her home should have been.

“What is this? Are we in the right place?” But she knew it was the right spots, there were the other planets and moons around Alderaan, but no… no…

“W-where is my… home?” There was that scared child again. Lost on her way. Her face went gray and ashen as she realized the horrible truth. That the asteroid field they were traversing through was her home. Her eyes went wide, and the strength went out of her body. She slumped into a kneeling position.

“Impossible.” She spoke as if the rest of the people in the ship didn’t exist. “This is absolutely impossible, no weapon exists with the strength to destroy a planet, it just doesn’t. So Alderaan should be here, but it’s not. It should be, but it’s not.” There was a blankness taking over her gaze. “It’s gone. Why is it gone? Why’s it gone? Mother?” No answer. “Papa?” No answer. Even R-2 dared not beep over his human’s deep shock.

Kijani started to scream.

Jin nodded with approval as Hotaru picked up the knife again. He was showing the faint beginnings of the man he would become, and she was proud to see that.

Faintly sighing once Ishawari reached her, she wasn’t sure whether she agreed. “I admit that I’ve been too long without a weapon in my hand. Despite all the stick-training and push ups, I still feel stale. Like my muscles are going.” She was sure that wasn’t entirely true, due to all the work she did to keep them up. But the idleness made it feel that way.

“At the same time, I am going to miss this place.” But she knew the village would be just fine without them. Today had shown her that much; these people would band together at the sign of trouble, cover each other’s weaknesses and be stronger for it.

“Oh! In all of the trouble and afterward, I never got to tell you. The rumor mill finally spit out something interesting.” She quickly relayed that word was out, seemingly about an attack on the prince. One who was supposedly sequestered in his father’s chambers, instead of here taking his first steps as a warrior.

“They mentioned more guards being at the port, and I really hope that isn’t true. It will make our jobs all the more difficult.” Getting to the unknown Ferryman was going to be it’s own ordeal, but to have to deal with dodging Imperial guards? Not fun.

“There will be no way to tell until we get there, so I’m putting it out of my mind for the time being. I don’t know about you, but I am starving. Mushroom rice for dinner; don’t go anywhere.”

With that, she went to the stove and got it lit. Though she’d never be adept at it, cooking somehow helped calm and organize her mind. Dinner was on the table within the hour, fresh mushrooms and fluffy (for the most part) rice.

The night came all too soon, and the rain with it. Jin lay awake on her cot, eyes shut but body jumping at every peal of thunder. Sleep wasn’t going to happen tonight, but the storm was too go outside in. Nothing to do but lie here and fight the fear.

“This is irrational and you know it.” She murmured to herself. “It’s just a bit of lightning and-” A particularly hard bout of thunder silenced her into a nervous squeak. “Y- you are a warrior, and not a child, and you have nothing to-” The sky outside lit up again, and she trembled. “Dammit.”

Amarantha

What a house.

Amarantha had never been anywhere near a place this size. To think it was all for one family. The mansion could have fit five families comfortably. Six if no one minded floor space. Just the thought of stepping in a place so ostentatious made her want to laugh a little. But she didn't. This was going smoothly so far. Aside from her getting the stink eye from the butler, the other girls had yet to say a word about her situation. But now they were sitting and having tea as if this was just some normal party.

You should speak up. Let them know what you've been about. Her pixie, carefully nestled in the pocket of her gown, spoke inside of her head. To think, a year and a half and she was still getting used to that.

"...a year and a half. Alone." And then she shut her mouth. It answered the question, didn't it? Besides, this group of fancy white ladies probably was not going to let her into their fancy-pants coven. She was fully expecting to be turned out at any minute.
@Vega7285 That got me looking for myths. I'm going to call her Arachne.
Let's try this again. I dropped the fog idea and went with something else. All I need is a suitable name; anyone want to help?

Kijani was startled when Obi-Wan nearly fell. She jumped up to try and help him, but Adam was awake just as fast. At first she thought that the old man had just had a spell of some kind, and needed rest. But then the two of them shared a strange, knowing glance, both of them pale in the face.

“What do you mean, something terrible happened?” There was a cold knot in her stomach. Funny that; had that been there before or after Obi-Wan fell?

To her surprise, R-2 came veering around the corner, scrreching in an alarmingly high pitched way.

“What is it, R-2?”

R-2 beeped out a rapid series of whistles and chirps that Kijani had to struggle to understand.

“What do you mean, Alderaan disappeared? Slow down, you know I can only understand you up to a certain speed.

The droid started over again. “You were tracking Alderaan to prepare for our arrival, okay. Trying to get early clearance. I got that. And then it just… disappeared from your tracking system?” She frowned, staring quizzically at her robotic friend.

“R-2, run a diagnostic. Planets don’t just vanish.” She wiped her forehead, and noticed it was layered with sweat, like she’d been running a hard race. Where had that come from? No matter. She went to the cockpit, and looked between Han Solo and Chewbacca.

“Would you gentlemen do me a favor and pull up Alderaan in your tracking systems? I think my droid is a little glitchy at the moment and I’d like to set it straight.”
Devika waved Roxy's comment away. "But you were alone, like me. It makes sense that it's imperfect. The more you worry about it, the longer it will take."

She turned back to the old couple with a smile. "Forty years. Wow... that's quite an accomplishment." Imagine loving someone for 40 years, through thick and thin and all sorts of changes. But what was she thinking? With her situation it'd be hard enough to make friends, let alone a lasting lover. Maybe someday they'd cure empathy and she'd be free of it.

"How long have you been coming to Roxy's shop?"
Jin raised her eyebrows, surprised at Ishawari’s sudden thanks. “You’re welcome. Anytime you need me, I’ll be there.” She too, looked to Hotaru with a searching gaze.

“It’s funny. I was thinking the exact same as you. We’re about to leave, which means far more variables than here. Plenty of opportunity for danger. I don’t like that we have to, but we have to.” She would have preferred that he stay innocent of battle for a while longer, btu something told her that was an idealist’s dream that she couldn’t afford.

“I was thinking knives. Something small, since he’s still young. Plus, they can be hidden, and a surprise knife is it’s own weapon.” She was starting to like the idea more and more. While the two bodyguards would protect him from any danger, there was the chance of such random happenings as today. That oaf could have grabbed any child, but Hotaru was the unlucky one. Such things couldn’t entirely be prevented, no matter how they would try.

“I have just the thing, for now. Soon we can get him a better one.” She went to her pack and dug a bit, then pulled out a short knife with a well-sharpened blade.

“Come here and hold this, Hotaru. Very carefully.”

Hotaru was still staring at the two with a blend of fear and possibly a touch of excitement. He reached out for the knife, and Jin placed it in his hands, hilt first. “This is just my spare stem cutting knife, but it will do.”

She straightened up and looked very serious. “Lesson one. Treat your weapon with respect. I will be teaching you to sharpen and clean that, first thing tomorrow.”
