For as long as I can remember I've been a writer. I've made characters and told tales. I've painted pictures and shared information. I've struck nerves and inspired. I've been an artist with words. A gamer whose only console is the English language itself.
But now so much has changed in my life. So much has happened that has left me wordless. I am not the same. But still I write. Only now I'm trying to find a new voice. A new style. A different genre to suit an upgraded and expansive point of view.
The old rules no longer apply. I'm tired of hyperrealism. I've had it up to here (very high up) with antiheroes. When everyone's an antihero, the villains have won. I'm so sick of the jaded cynicism of modernity and the deconstructive apathy of post modernity.
Sure, sometimes the hopelessness arises. Sometimes it's overwhelming. It's depressing to see how divisive everything is becoming, how AI slop is taking over the internet while creative humans languish in obscurity, how prevalent addictions and job insecurity are becoming in supposedly first world nations. Sometimes it feels like the whole world is about to really burn down all around us.
But that's why we can't give up. Why storytellers, writers, and potential protagonists of our own tales can't stop sharpening our wits or flexing our imaginations. When doom seems certain and darkness fills the foreseeable future, that's when a new story - a story of light and hope - is needed the most. And WE can tell that story.
I'm looking for a few good rps in which to stretch my creativity. I'm not looking for anything too dark, lewd, or demonic. Nothing that glorifies sorcery or homosexuality. Nothing that overuses mature themes like they're some kind of addiction. Please no edgelords, murderhobos, or haters.
I want romances that not only fade to black but that don't focus exclusively on sexual passion a if that's the only part of love that there is. I want lighthearted adventures, yes with intense or perhaps even horrific moments, but with the hope filled promise of a happy ending. I want themes like Iyashikei and NobleBright.
I want superhero roleplays that are more four color comic book style adventures than grim and gritty realism. I want slices of life that are more about joy and healing than drama and strife. I want Star Wars roleplays that reach back to a time before George Lucas and then Disney started changing and ruining everything - a time when there were just three movies and an expanded universe that wasn't set in stone.
I guess want I'm saying is I want to write things that aren't too popular these days, but might've been popular decades ago.
If that sounds like something that interests you, let me know.
My pet peeve is arrogant writers. People who think that because they know how to use a semicolon and can churn out a couple of pages of content per post that they're writing has more objective value than someone who doesn't write the same way or the same length. People who try to gatekeep because they think that a certain kind of roleplay is inherently less complex or less intricate or even less aesthetically interesting than another kind. Those who callously refuse to empathize with less experienced players/gms like they were born with a pen and a pad in the womb. People who talk down to other writers and roleplayers because they aren't as nerdy as they are. It manifests itself in so many different forms. But arrogant writers are the worst.
Can we assume something is keeping them there? Like, a lot of popular characters can fly
~~~The ocean surrounding the island is mostly calm, but if you go too far from the beach, the ocean turns into a heavy storm. If you do not drown there, you will be pushed back to the island. The same goes in the sky if you can fly you can't fly for far before stormy winds get you.
...
Depending on how things go with some other rps that may or may not get off the ground, I might have time to contribute to something like this.
And if it does in fact remain open to all types of characters, I'll stay interested in joining in.
"No; a reptile--a dinosaur. Nothing else could have left such a track. They puzzled a worthy Sussex doctor some ninety years ago; but who in the world could have hoped--hoped--to have seen a sight like that?"
His words died away into a whisper, and we all stood in motionless amazement. Following the tracks, we had left the morass and passed through a screen of brushwood and trees. Beyond was an open glade, and in this were five of the most extraordinary creatures that I have ever seen. Crouching down among the bushes, we observed them at our leisure.
There were, as I say, five of them, two being adults and three young ones. In size they were enormous. Even the babies were as big as elephants, while the two large ones were far beyond all creatures I have ever seen. They had slate-colored skin, which was scaled like a lizard's and shimmered where the sun shone upon it. All five were sitting up, balancing themselves upon their broad, powerful tails and their huge three-toed hind-feet, while with their small five-fingered front-feet they pulled down the branches upon which they browsed. I do not know that I can bring their appearance home to you better than by saying that they looked like monstrous kangaroos, twenty feet in length, and with skins like black crocodiles."
I have more details to give out on the above mentioned character:
Jedar Gul; my main character. A suspiciously nordish argonian with Skyrim baggage and secrets from his past that he'd like to leave behind.
Taller and more broad of form than the average argonian, Jedar is covered in blue and grey scales. He has bright sky blue eyes. While his head is topped by platinum and gold feathers, mimicking human hair. His face is sharply angled, with a short snout and draconic features.
A brutal warrior, learned in letters and song, with the traditional Skyrim "who needs magic when you've got might?" mentality. He is totally agreeable with conservative nordic values. He's got a history of drama with other argonians, and often has trouble getting along with his own kind. Although primarily a swordsman, he is no stranger to the bow either.
"Aye, those miscreants'll be two days traveling from here on horseback by now. But I don't intend to let their crimes go unpunished. Now are you coming with me or not?"
Aaaaannnd... I do have some other, less fleshed out characters that I'm nonetheless willing to rp as.
I've recently been working on these two scaly fellows as well:
Forok of Leyawiin; Opulent, optimistic, and obese, Forok is a joyful and ambitious businessman with a silver tongue, a large belly and a love of the finer things in life.
Light green, medium brown and sandy tan, Forok has dragonlike crests and fins curving gracefully and intimidatingly along his face and head. He has deep forest green eyes and a mid-length snout. But his bulging throat and bloated body look more bullfroglike than draconic.
"Nonsense! Everyone and everything has a price. It's only a matter of whether or not they're worth the expense."
Syzoth-Lei; Honorbound yet undeniably cold-blooded (no pun intended), this powerful and patriotic pugilist from blackmarsh is in fact a shadowscale assassin, traveling across Tamriel to execute the deadly will of his King.
This argonian is very green, with pale yellow scales along his throat, chest belly, inner arms, and inner thighs. His head is plain and hornless, his eyes are a severe yellow, and his snout is long and rounded like a raptor. He is toned and chiseled with powerful muscles but he isn't very big at all.
"We take them for granted like cheap trinkets as time sails right on by. But it's always the little things that matter more than the big things do in the end. The sounds of children playing in the marketplace, the beauty of Masser and Secunda against the stars of the night sky, the delicious soft bite of a sweetroll... they suddenly become more precious than all of the Emperor's treasures the moment you're confronted with the inevitability of your death. ...You want my advice? Cherish the little things now, while they're close at hand."
"Yet still I seek to play. To write and to share the weirdness that I conceive of, with any who will hear."
