For as long as I can remember I've been a writer. I've made characters and told tales. I've painted pictures and shared information. I've struck nerves and inspired. I've been an artist with words. A gamer whose only console is the English language itself.
But now so much has changed in my life. So much has happened that has left me wordless. I am not the same. But still I write. Only now I'm trying to find a new voice. A new style. A different genre to suit an upgraded and expansive point of view.
The old rules no longer apply. I'm tired of hyperrealism. I've had it up to here (very high up) with antiheroes. When everyone's an antihero, the villains have won. I'm so sick of the jaded cynicism of modernity and the deconstructive apathy of post modernity.
Sure, sometimes the hopelessness arises. Sometimes it's overwhelming. It's depressing to see how divisive everything is becoming, how AI slop is taking over the internet while creative humans languish in obscurity, how prevalent addictions and job insecurity are becoming in supposedly first world nations. Sometimes it feels like the whole world is about to really burn down all around us.
But that's why we can't give up. Why storytellers, writers, and potential protagonists of our own tales can't stop sharpening our wits or flexing our imaginations. When doom seems certain and darkness fills the foreseeable future, that's when a new story - a story of light and hope - is needed the most. And WE can tell that story.
I'm looking for a few good rps in which to stretch my creativity. I'm not looking for anything too dark, lewd, or demonic. Nothing that glorifies sorcery or homosexuality. Nothing that overuses mature themes like they're some kind of addiction. Please no edgelords, murderhobos, or haters.
I want romances that not only fade to black but that don't focus exclusively on sexual passion a if that's the only part of love that there is. I want lighthearted adventures, yes with intense or perhaps even horrific moments, but with the hope filled promise of a happy ending. I want themes like Iyashikei and NobleBright.
I want superhero roleplays that are more four color comic book style adventures than grim and gritty realism. I want slices of life that are more about joy and healing than drama and strife. I want Star Wars roleplays that reach back to a time before George Lucas and then Disney started changing and ruining everything - a time when there were just three movies and an expanded universe that wasn't set in stone.
I guess want I'm saying is I want to write things that aren't too popular these days, but might've been popular decades ago.
If that sounds like something that interests you, let me know.
I do miss some of the old vibes from the first iteration. But the expanded details are cool, the mirror theme is quite fitting, and "The Totality" is a way better name than "The Overlords".
Does anybody mind if I make it a part of my official background that my Lizardman joined the party when they attacked the Lich that killed his tribe had attempted to enslave and experiment on him?
Maybe the attack didn't end the Lich. Maybe it did. Maybe they just sealed him away or something. But it ended with MC pulling a Teal'c and joining the party.
Tbh, I never played a real dnd game before in my life. No idea how dndbeyond works. But I've read up on the lore in the past. Mostly forgotten realms and spelljammer. But I'm resourceful and imaginative. (And I'm on a bit of a lizard-people kick right now.) I'd bet I can find a good bit of info on Ravenloft/Curse of Strahd.
Mostly here for the roleplaying and creative writing aspects. Might be willing to try dndbeyond out though. But if it takes more than a mobile device to make it work then I'm pretty much out of luck on that one.
The Helstrom Ancestor Lizard is a green-skinned lizard; they are named for the city of Helstrom and are known for making great pets.
The Lilmoth Ancestor Lizard is a black-skinned variant which possesses striking scarlet hues. These lizards are also kept as pets and are known to comfort the pain of others by nuzzling them. They are named for the city of Lilmoth, and some claim that they are the ancestors of the local Bright-Throat Tribe, a coastal tribe of Murkmire Argonians famed for their bright skin coloration.
Duskfall Ancestor Lizards are black-scaled ancestor lizards valued as gifts from the past by Argonian Sithis worshippers.
Scholars believe that Argonians were uplifted from these semi-aquatic, tree-dwelling swamp lizards native to the Black Marsh.
The Argonian allegory known as the Parable of Becoming states that the Hist found the humanoid forms of Men and Mer useful, and molded the form of the swamp's lizards after them to create Argonians.
And in 4E 48, the Argonian Mere-Glim received a vision while on Umbriel of life as a lizard, before the root and the taste of Hist Sap came and transformed both his body and mind.
It's theorized that ancient Argonian society was more advanced and unified in an age known as the xanmeer period.
Xanmeers, also known as Stone-Nests, are towering stone citadels and ziggurats built by ancient Argonian civilizations, wherein their priests appeased Sithis in the hopes they would be spared from destruction. Their most infamous gifts to the Void were live blood sacrifices.
How the old ones managed to create such lasting, permanent structures on top of the ever-shifting marshes of their homeland is a secret that has been lost to history.
Though the ancient Argonians were also adept at metalworking and often used volcanic glass in their weaponry.
