Depends what you class as data. I usually think of them in a similar way, as I make many of my devices with organic-styled memory. So no, in a way, it's simply signals to signals.

The way it works is simply that it takes in excess data contained in the brain, processes it to make it compact yet in a lossless way, and stores it in an apprpriate way depending on the data's usage. Think of it as just making the mind bigger and better.
