Well, I'm not entirely sure either. But after we stopped the runes, the whole place started to collapse. Lily saw more of what was happening.

Looks like our magic charged the spells below the fountain, which activated three rune trails. Two of them were trying to seal off the exit, but there was another one buried underground that set off that huge trap. I think we were supposed to fill the fountain with blood or something to stop them from activating.
