Unused parts of a Character

Hence why most of those intense laundry-list apps are useless. All an app is for is to make sure the RPer can write up to the standards of the RP, and to make sure that they make sense within the world. An app that has more than five questions is a shitty app; all you really need is a name and a bio.

Although I can see where you are coming from, I do have to disagree with that an App that has less than 5 questions is a better App than one with 5, especially when you say all it needs is a name and Bio. A character sheet is basically a source of data that other players can refer back to for information and help, and the process of placing this information under different headers is a way to simplify it for those that wish to find the relevant details.

But that's beside the point, I wasn't asking about parts of a Character Sheet that are pointless, but the contained information and what information doesn't get used.

@AuntFlavia I've had that happen before as well and due to that I've been a little more open recently about the character's history than what I have been in the past. It does help to paint a picture well when you keep things a secret and others start to wonder about your character and what lies under the outer shell, but often the process of playing that out never really works out and you're left with ideas for your own personal motives that never get used.

Personal Motives does bring me to @Jig's comment. My last RP that I started I asked for players to list a 'quest' as such that their characters would go on. Something that I've seen a lot on is RPs that go on a linear story driven path and characters that have been developed with no motive. Often the Bio will include their younger life and how they became the way they are, but rarely asks where the character wants to advance themselves to in the future. So it ends up being a mix of a sandbox RP where the characters are free to so what they like with a story in the background that is happening while they have that freedom.

So when we talk about parts of a character that never get used, a motive/objective is a part that would probably need further attention.

Unused parts of a Character

Thought occurred to me when I was going over old character sheets and that is how many had different parts to their character sheet that I never got to use in the particular RP.

So the question I present is have you made a character that has had abilities, weapons, skills, relationships, and any other thing that never really got used in the RP they we're designed for?

Were there any particular reasons? (Eg: Trait didn't suit the RP, ability was too difficult to use, the required situation never came up, etc)

Alyon shivered slightly from the wet clothes against her skin, but it wasn't enough to really bother her. She nodded quickly, acknowledging that this should be kept a secret from not just many people, but her father especially. Alyon wasn't really bought up to be the type of person to rebel against society... but it felt kinda fun.

"I think my father would kill me if he knew about this. He does love his alcohol so knowing that we wasted so much infuriate him, and that's without mentioning that we burnt down an entire ship containing the stuff!" Alyon bopped back and forth as she sat on the row boat, still pumping from the adrenaline. All that was left now was to go back to the Rose Garden and inform Miss Thorn.

The boat eventually reached the waters edge and skidded up onto a dirt patch. Alyon stood up and hopped over the front before grabbing the lip and dragging it further upon shore with her feet sinking into the muddy surface. They were far enough away that they could see the smoke and fire of the burning boat, but safely out of the dockland limits. The setting sun also helped with their escape, placing long shadows from all the buildings and trees for them to hide under. "You happy for us to head back to the Rose Garden?" she asked, looking down at her disgustingly messy outfit. "I do remember Miss Thorn saying something about cleaning ourselves up before travelling on back to our home, but I'm not sure if this will be clean enough to be within her presence."

@SukuI think what I might do to make things fairer is that those who have placed an interest in before this post will be allowed to apply and those after have to be declined for the time being. If you and your friend wish to apply then I'd be happy to take you two on board. :)

Anubis rifled through the paperwork for those who had begun selected their jobs, although this process was quite boring at times it allowed her to keep tabs on what everyone was up to and what work was being focused on. She was about to both grab Abel's form and stamp Lincoln's when she noticed that Abel hadn't signed his name yet. Looking up at the man she could see him nestled around Lincoln body, wrapping the poor victim up with the chain that hung from his cuffs.

"So by saying 'you won't be needing help' are you referring to how you already have chosen someone to partner up with?" Anubis tried hard to play the serious look noticing full well that Lincoln's choice was pretty much being made for him by Abel. With a decent amount of effort she tried hard to keep that look, but slowly and surely enough the corners of her lips pinched back as she tried really hard not to smile.

Drawing her attention away from the hugging ritual that Abel often took part in, Anubis thumped a stamp on Lincoln's paperwork ready for him, and possibly his partner, to sign. She took an extra moment to pull out a pencil and signed Abel's name across the top of his original contract. "I can hold this one aside if you have a preference for it," she notified him, just in case he was a bit conflicted about the choice that he would possibly have to make.

"Oh, and Lincoln, going back on your previous question, Lord Death is stable but it will be a while before he makes a proper appearance," the sheer fact that she was referring to him as 'Lord' was something that she wasn't quite used to, but it was a bit of a given since she had known the Meister for several long decades. "The harsh reality is that when Death the Kid fought the Kishin he ended up connecting all three Lines of Sanzu during his final attack. Normally this would signal the change in Death Gods with Kid being the new Lord of Death and Death himself passing on, however we believe that because Kid wasn't fully aware of his actions the ritual wasn't fully completed which left Lord Death as this world's current God of Death." Anubis took a deep breath. Although she wasn't a Death God, the fragment that Lord Death had left inside her resonated during Kid's battle. If that was anything to go off, the energy released during that fight was beyond her imagination.

"When you guys are done, you're free to go. You know my number so any queries just give me a call."

1. Never seen the series, so can't answer.
2. Ok, so this deserves an explanation. Tofu... But the kind I had at a Japanese Monk temple when I stayed the night. I have never tasted something that had zero flavour and no texture. SERIOUSLY!!! My whole tour group was like "WTF?" because this 'thing' was bland, flavourless, and was not satisfying! :\
3. I race Remote Control Cars and game a fair bit.

Ok, made the call to post in the General Interest area and bump the Advanced Int Check asking for 2 more players. Sadly Asgore hasn't been online for several days now and I'm not going to wait for her to either reappear, or chew up a spot that someone else can use.
