Hello and welcome!
Okami was a beautiful game and it still remains as one of my favourites of all times. The story was touching, the gameplay was fun, and the visuals were very unique to say the least. The problem is that it is really an old game and I'm afraid it may be a bit of a niche market in today's time.
The game came out in 2006/2007 on PS2 and was republished into a HD edition on PS3 in 2012. Sadly the company that made it, Clover Studios, has since dissolved and turned into Platinum games—you know... the ones behind Metal Gear Rising: Revengence, Bayonetta, and Neir: Automata—so a large portion of their heritage was lost. As a Fandom title it just does not have that power anymore to draw and inspire compared to some bigger pieces like Final Fantasy, Mass Effect or Fallout.
But take that out of the question and address it as a title that is about to be created into an RP, I think the hardest part is in what you said before. It's not an easy roleplay to run.
To run a world like Okami you have to think of how the Gods will be portrayed, how the characters will interact, and what sort of creations players can come up with? Will all your applicants want to play human/non-human characters? In conjunction with this, what is the story line you wish to run and how can it translate well into a group/roleplay situation? How is the best way you can educate people on Japanese mythology without it coming across as a cheap and cheasy storyline?
Personally, if I was to create a Roleplay of this nature I'd be more incline to do something unique and say it draws inspiration from the Okami Universe. Also, check out Muramasa Rebirth because that is a game in a similar world where the Gods have their impact on the world and you play as one of two characters: a woman who's body has been taken over by the soul of a warrior, and a boy who has lost the memories of the Ninja clan he betrayed. Edit: if you don't wish to play it the cutscenes are on YouTube in a playlist so you can movie run it... but it's more fun to play.
