Added mechanics for type counters and limit breaks in the combat rules tab.
You don’t have to follow the naming convention - it’s kinda awkward to work with. If you want to though, you can.
No worries. I was quite tired when posting this tbh. :D
I'm glad to see things coming together here! I'll put together a character sheet in the coming days and prepare to jump in. I was going to play a warrior/suitor. I probably still will, but I'm also willing to do some stuff with the Dark Queen, since no one else has asked for that role. If that's okay, I'll keep her further in the background for now, but she'll be cooking up various schemes to keep us on our toes (and to keep things interesting).

I made an OOC thread to get things rolling! Come hang out and post your characters.

Hearts Astray in Worlds of Darkness

Introduction

This is a roleplay setting which is loosely based on the early Kingdom Hearts games. However, I do mean loosely; some important concepts are wholly original. Essentially only Kingdom Hearts 1 remains canon to this world. Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts 2 are partially canon, but their ideas and characters have been reinterpreted in a new direction. Some of the language we will use in this verse is drawn from fan speculation during the period before KH2's release.

Our characters are members of an alternate Organization XIII, also known as the Cynics' Guild. This group is mainly made up of Nobodies, beings who have lost their hearts, and much of their memory, to darkness in a previous life. They know firsthand how insurmountable the armies of darkness are, so they no longer pin all their hopes for the universe on the forces of light. Their strange new existence is incomplete, and though they retain emotions, they lack hearts. But for that very reason they are much more resistant to darkness than before. So they make use of this unique benefit and travel the worlds of darkness. There they recruit new members, and collect memories and fragments of light. Ultimately the group hopes to create new worlds from these recovered materials - worlds which will be forever sealed away from the darkness. Though sympathetic to the warriors of light, they cannot condone their actions and thus try to hinder them from unlocking worlds when possible. Their third position is seen as the only way forward once the the greater state of the universe is acknowledged.

Accepting Players - Welcome
Where do you envision this sitting on the angsty-edgy matrix? Angst is an inherent part of the setting, especially with Nobodies, but there's also usually a good amout of plucky hopeful optimism to balance it out and I don't want to get stuck in an endless loop of everything being bad.

It will be fairly edgy. Our characters are not in a great spot. They've lost what they cared for most, and now they work tirelessly to prevent the rest of the verse from suffering the same fate. But that doesn't mean it has to be all doom and gloom. Characters will deal with this situation in different ways, and some will put on a brighter face than others. More than that, there is some hope left in them - otherwise they wouldn't even be trying to make a difference. There will be victories and accomplishments I'm sure; probably even some new friends will be made. But yeah it definitely isn't going to be as happy and hopeful as when Sora's around.

What are your plans for conflict resolution/game structure? Is it going to be exclusively narrative focused, a basic dice system, or will there be actual RPG elements?

I want it to mostly be resolved narratively, but I will provide some guidelines. I'll ask each player to roughly rate their strengths in different areas, and to describe their most important abilities. This is mostly just to get an idea what each of us is working with. When I introduce an enemy, I will give brief tags OOC to indicate how powerful they are and how much auto-hitting is acceptable. Basically there will be very minor mechanics - mostly just guidelines for our narrative battles.

I'm interested

Welcome! I can't wait to see what you come up with. c:
I've been thinking about this game a little more, and I wanted to talk about a few things to help me start planning in earnest.

Previously I mentioned the idea of one of the warrior-suitors being a woman. I wanted it to be one of those situations where her father was a nobleman who failed to produce a male heir, eventually leading him to raise his daughter as a man (so that she might inherit his position and property). People would know that she's a woman, but they'd use male titles for her to reflect her rank in the social hierarchy. Does that sound workable enough? If so, I wonder if you'd give her a fair shake with the competition and whatever accompany romance games there may be. I think I could make it work either way, but it would be more fun if there was a possibility to have my character involved in some romance/drama.

The other questions have to do with the larger world. I assume that there have been militarized conflicts in the past years since the departure of the princess - chances for young soldiers to make names for themselves. But I wonder what force these conflicts would have been against. Is the Crystal Kingdom opposed to other human/humanoid kingdoms? Or would it be more likely that the past battles were against monsters and fantasy creatures of some sort? If the latter, would they have been the standard fare of orcs, goblins, trolls, etc. Or some other kinds of monsters? You don't have to answer everything right away but we could start thinking about that kind of thing.
It's weird. I have personality and backstory lined up but it's the powers and abilities part that has me stumped. In essence he'll be a gunfighter, and the only idea I have is that he can shoot bullets into and out of shadows as if they were portals. Imagine Revolver Ocelot's trick shots but cranked up even further.

That sounds fine by me. It's somewhat reminiscent of Xigbar.

Interested. Probably will try out with a Pacifist character who has to rely on their pet Dreameater to do the combat for angsty reasons.

That sounds fun. Though... I don't really have a big place for dreameaters in this setting. It should still work just fine if we treat him as more of a special case - a creature that can enter into dreams and mess with them. Rather than as one of a huge class of creatures, if that makes sense.

I'll work on getting an OOC up soon, since we seem to have several potential applicants. Thank you everyone for your interest thus far. c:
