The Journey Begins

Elisette made the decision to distract the zombies while Nick slip away and find the witch, reasoning that she could not put the latter in danger and that she could take on more zombies than Nick ever could. The young man nodded, and heaved a breath as they exited the church. He felt nervous and scared again, but if he could live through the crazy stuff that happened to him mere days before then he could live through this too. Right?

“Uhm...also, be careful. Viorel keeps talking about something really bad being out here at night, but we don’t know what that is or where it comes from. Might be a good idea to try and find some place to hole up if night gets here and we haven’t finished yet. Anyways...here I goooo! Try not to become zombie food!~”
Elisette

Oh yeah, there was that unknown being that slaughtered people in their houses at night that Viorel mentioned. Oh boy, this just got more complicated. Nick sighed as he watched Elisette running off to the distance, rousing the dead from the snow and tearing through them without effort. "You watch yourself, Elisette." He muttered under his breath.

The warrior woman was doing her job, and it was time for Nick to do his. While he had Viorel's charm on, he still moved carefully and silently through the snow, keeping away from the undead as much as possible. Nick made for the forest in the distance and would be on the lookout for any caves or inconspicuous shacks where the witch could be residing in.

Hey all! Looks like the MGE Wiki isn't the only MGE-thing going down!

I think it's pretty obvious now but I want to make it official: This roleplay has finally died ended!

Now, while part of the reason is the lack of activity over the past weeks, another part is that I've also lost (massive) interest in this RP as I've made a lot of mistakes and sorta lost control of the narrative's development. A big part of me really just wanted to pull the plug on the entire thing, a decision I struggled with for maybe a year now.

As my parting words, I want to thank all the players that stuck with this RP for 4 years. Without a doubt, this has been my longest and maybe my most successful RP in my entire history of roleplaying. While I can no longer continue it, I do not regret that this has lasted this long. Who knew an RP set in Kenkou Cross' MGE on a very localized region would go on to be this big?

So, I want to thank all the players who participated in this for creating this unforgettable memory for me. I'm working on a sorta-sequel for this, something much more organized, and I hope I see you all there. I'm also really sorry for those looking forward to this RP's continuation.

Sincerely, PaulHaynek

P.S. I'm also happy to answer any questions about this RP that you might have. I can also provide the planned sequence of events if you'd like.

“Find anything from the maid? I talked with a few of the locals...apparently the witch we’re looking for was a kid that isn’t even human.”
Elisette

"Nothing much on my end, either." Nick sighed, a bit ashamed. "Just that there's a reason for covering her eyes. Although, I think it's obvious that she's more than meets the eye. Err, no pun or joke intended." So the witch would be a child in appearance? But they were also not human... how? Will the witch have obvious inhuman features or will they be human-looking? Like Augusta, his Elven acquaintance.

But enough of that, it's time to meet with Viorel. Hopefully not for the last time.

“Hm? A light? Oh, certainly. Here we go. I don’t think the torch will last you long out there, especially if it gets windy. I’d keep the lantern lit, too. And...if you don’t mind me asking, how do you plan on getting past the Undead?”
Viorel

“Good question. If it were just me I could just mow them down, no problem. But this cute guy here’s tagging along and I’d rather he not be zombie food.”
Elisette

Nick agreed that it was a good question. Maybe it would have been better to have just stayed behind, but he had already made his decision. He looked to his lit torch as he knew what he needed to do to defend himself. The question was: Could he actually do it? "Thanks, Viorel. Actually, I have--"

But before he could finish, Viorel had already gone to Cynthia who gave him an item which he then brought back to the duo.

“Here, just a small protective charm. Should help you remain undetectable to most undead.”
Viorel

It was a cross, plated in silver. It was like a rosary, an Earthly one, except there was skull on one arm and a rose-like shape on the other. Another similarity, Nick noted. The charm even made its wearer undetectable to the unholy creatures outside, like a stereotypical holy item. Nick stared at the cross, ruminating at the coincidences and missing Viorel and Elisette's exchange before he snapped back to reality. Really, this was not the time. He had a job to do.

“You should get going, I doubt you want to be out for long at night.”
Viorel

“Well, alright then. How do you wanna do this, Nick?”
Elisette

Nick thought for a moment. What was the best way to take advantage of Viorel's little gift? "Hmm, I'd say we can do a little divide and conquer." He replied to Elisette with a suggestion. "You can take on mobs of the zeds which means you can draw their attention the most. You can distract most of them while I sneak behind and look for the witch." There's just one problem with that plan. "Of course, once I do find the witch, I'll have to throw down with her... which might likely end poorly for me." Unless he can stop the witch without violence.

"Or we can reverse roles. I'll be zombie bait while you use the charm to look for the witch undisturbed." Nick offered. "I think I've got a way to defend myself from zombies, so long as their flammable. But... please be fast if we're going with this."

“And no, its just a simple cloth and gift from my employer. I was born with a rather nasty disease that rendered my eyes extremely sensitive to even the smallest amounts of light.”
Cynthia

Ah, so it was not anything extraordinary. Although, Nick can't remember any disease back in Earth that made the eyes very sensitive to light. The closest he could think of was epilepsy. "I see. Sorry about your eyes."

“If its a source of light, Viorel can light the lantern for you when you leave. He’s capable of at least that much. Need to get back to work. I think your friend is getting antsy to leave already.”
Cynthia

Nick raised an eyebrow to the last comment and turned his head to the church doors to find an impatient Elisette waiting for him, tapping on her arm and... was she bouncing? Nick let out a sigh. "Yeah, looks like this is goodbye for now. Wish us luck, yeah?" And with that, he parted from the light-sensitive maid to meet up with Elisette. He could not gleam much from his talk with Cynthia about who they were, but he supposed there'll be more chances later.

"Hey, Elisette. Ready to go?" He waved at his warrior companion, feigning ignorance at her impatience. "Let me just ask Viorel to light this torch and we can head out. By the way, what'd you get from the survivors?" He would ask while brandishing his flammable stick.
I'll be delaying the updoot since no one has posted yet. See y'all next week!

Help, Wanted 2

“Ian, if this was your idea of some sick, twisted joke, then you’re more depraved of a manic than I had thought! Why did you request aid to catch a robber, only for said robber to be yourself? Why did you try to kill me? Are you lunatic, or were you born with a defect?!”
Vară Riemsianne

Ian shrugged. "Mama always told me she dropped me all the time when I was a baby." He still concealed his reasons. "And come now, Vară. You're a monster, a Flame Demon! Did you really think that anything I did could hurt you? I mean, you got a mean halberd but no way could I hurt you with it! No matter how hard I thrusted or swung!"

"Are monsters... really that tough?" Neil allowed his curiosity.

"Pretty much." The Dhampir answered. "It takes a lot to hurt us monsters. And even more to actually threaten our lives." She then closed her eyes with her fingers on her chin, thinking hard about the situation. "Aha! I got it! Hahahaha! This Ian guy's super crazy!" She laughed at her realization.

"Hey, hey, why are you laughing? What's going on?" Neil demanded.

"No! Don't tell them or else they'll get in trouble!" Ian panicked, a first sight to behold. "I mean, I can handle that by myself but still!"

"Ian's right. If I told you two, you might get roped into it. Best if you just walk away with this victory." The Dhampir told Neil and Vară.

"And-and, if you go home right now, you'll get a big reward! Like, lots of gold that'll probably be important later!" Ian added, begging the Guild members to simply let the situation run its course.

“I’m not sure what’s going on here, but please stop this. Master Bart, if you’ve any doubt as to the integrity of Sir Reed, I’d be more than happy to vouch for him. It was thanks to his planning that our group returned home safely!”
Nagare

"Not to mention, wasn't it you that held a vote on whether or not Reed was let into the Guild? It was unanimous and we greeted him with open arms after that. So what happened between now and then that lead you to believing that letting him in was something you regret now? Seriously, what the hell is your problem!? First Neil, now Reed! Dude, this is getting fucking ridiculous!"
Kira Gigas

"I too, can't understand the reasons behind Bart's actions, but conflict is not the answer. We should all calm down, sit and talk before taking any action we might come to regret later."
Freyr

"Guildmaster Bart, if Sir Reed is to part from us, at the very least, can you tell your reason of dismissal of Ortusian?"
Yang Bethlehem

"Yes, I'm sure everyone's had a rough day. Let's settle down, have a meal, and discuss things in a civil manner,"
Sylvia Altissima

"...I see." Bart nodded, acknowledging that his view on the matter was soundly defeated rather unanimously. He made no attempt to answer any of the questions asked of him, swatting away Ada's hand, but simply turned to the knight Guild member with his arms stretched. "Well, Reed. Looks like you get to stay by popular vote. Lucky you, you have people on your back. Unlike me." Bart said no more as he walked back inside the Guild headquarters. Still, he left everyone's questions hanging.

Still, it was fortunate that the spat was resolved rather peacefully. Reed let out a long sigh and patted Ada on the shoulder before addressing the rest of the Guild. "Thanks everyone, for sticking for me." He expressed gratitude. "Except you, monk. You sounded ready to throw me out." Reed threw shade in Yang's direction but his tone was in jest.

"I don't know what came over him. Bart's not like this back then, at least I didn't think so." Haley aired her thoughts. "I think the stress' getting to him. Although, I have a feeling it's not just that."

"If the stress is truly wearing him down, perhaps we need to do something about it." Reed suggested. "Maybe someone should go talk to him. Someone he trusts, of course, but after this... tirade, I doubt he trusts any of us." He then let out another sigh. "Are the Liliraune sisters still cooking? I'm as hungry as a bear before winter."

“I’m certain both these people and my employer will be quite pleased.”
Cynthia

"Yep, we're here to help. And... we'll try not to make this... messy." Nick replied to the maid. He tried his best to reassuring but he could not hide that things may not go according to plan. He knew enough that plans rarely do that. "No promises, though. There are a lot of zombies outside and who knows what that witch could do."

Glancing at Elisette for a moment and seeing that she was still busy talking to the town survivors, Nick figured he still had time to talk. "If you don't mind me asking, can you tell me about your blindfold? Does it like... give you superpowers?" He decided to be forward with his thoughts. "Sorry, I'm just curious. Thought you were blind when I first saw. No offense and all that."

Just then, a remembering thought entered Nick's head. A missing puzzle piece now clicking in with the rest. "Tsk! Aww crap, forgot to look for matches."
