I never notice someone's post count until I see (ignore post count) and then I totally look at it, out of habit and curiosity.

It's always good to see both news stations from different political spectrums. Mostly so when you mock, you have reason to!

I also miss cable, though it isn't worth paying.
Neil's face was firmly shoved in his hand, absently listening to the ladies as they spoke to one another. He hadn't looked at the image, but he didn't know who would doctor the holo of Nia. Cheng obviously wouldn't, because it was in his best interest to find her. So who else would have tampered with the image? And why? Cheng would obviously remember what she looked like, or perhaps the fact it was altered was just to show her in a different state than she was in?

"All I could think of is the Node higher ups and their security forces." Neil said aloud, yawning and placing his hands on the table. "If this Kramer Company had the backing of them, they could doctor the image and ghost out of the system too...which means this is a bit more dangerous and complicated than we thought a kidnapping mission would be." His voice trailed off and he lightly bit his tongue, eyes downcast as he considered.

"Well, we could try hacking into some of the security cameras." Taya offered, her face full of energetic mischief at the thought, drawing a somewhat surprised gaze from the Captain and Pilot. Neil had forgotten she was technical savvy in ways he wasn't, and that she was trouble maker enough to go past her overly controlling father and escape Fornax unscathed. He supposed they had been in so many dangerous situations recently that he mostly thought of her as a frightened young woman, but...

"They would show us what really happened, and if the upper Node is not trustworthy, asking them wouldn't be very unbiased."

"Every second we're not out there looking is also another second she might be further from the system, or closer to being trafficked off into some harem." Neil reminded her.

"Which means we better get to it." She replied quickly.

The pilot turned to the Captain. "Want to split up?" He asked, referring to he and Lonney flying out to check on the Kramer station while the two women checked the cameras. Of course if the Captain thought it was unwise, he wouldn't be mad.

Social and pseudo-genetic engineering aren't adequate reasons to deny people the right to marry (at least not morally). The exact same types of arguments were deployed against interracial marriage and gay marriage.

I agree. Maybe if it happens someday there could be regulations on them having a child? Then again, humanity is pretty large. Lack of genetic diversity wouldn't be a problem for a long time.
@PennyNo. I was merely saying how incest could bring more potential problems than you were indicating, and that it's something that is more destructive than many diseases historically. I was just giving food for thought on your discussion with Sleep. I have no opinion one way or the other on it being allowed or not in marriage other than the ick factor and how unhealthy psychologists deem it. (I recall they did studies that indicated it was problematic but I can't remember how much or why).

Without getting into our previous discussion on designer babies way back when, genes often have more than one purpose and altering a code to change your child's appearance or what-have-you could effect them in other ways that we 1) cannot change or 2) do not yet understand. Plus a big problem to the designer baby thing is an eventual lack of genetic diversity, something that you can't 'alter' away very easily without infringing on the theoretical rights of the designer parents. But past those points, we'd just repeat the ethics of it like we were ;)

I am concerned with people passing along genetic diseases to their kids as well. I cannot tell if this is bigoted of me, but I do sometimes see someone with a disease such as down syndrome and they announce they are having a child and I think to myself "that's probably not a good thing" because I feel it is somewhat unfair to the child, potentially.

I will say that if we look at ourselves completely scientifically as a species, the point of the species is to survive and thrive the best way it can. Hence the natural inclination to not marry your sibling or mother or father past it being arranged to keep some arbitrary bloodline 'pure.'

This again assumed that the purpose of marriage is genetic.

I'm talking about the future of the species if society deems it ok, and any kind of coupling that bring offspring, not just marriage.

If we teleported into Cathamber's magic wonderland of easy genetic engineering would the moral objection still exist? What if they were sterile? Is there any grounds to object to it other than social taboo because that same taboo applied (and applies) to same sex marriage.

It would still be icky in society, and we as a species would naturally be disinclined to it because of our evolutionary history and instincts. However, if the genetics were modified for their children, there was no religion against it, nor cultural taboos, then if I had to guess there would be a small population of genetically odd individuals that don't have the same genetic coding as most do, so they find their sister fuckable!

While there are genetic diseases and deficiencies that are created through non-incest breeding, Incest is typically uncommon not just because it is a cultural taboo, but because we as a species (and many other mammals) instinctually find our siblings or close family members to not be sexually attractive through minute things like smell. If evolution is so against it, I believe it is a bit more serious than inheriting asthma from your father or something along those lines.

If anyone remembers the Climate Change argument I had with Sleeping a few weeks ago involving the 200,000 dead Taiga that died mysteriously in 2015 and it was linked to climate change? It was also linked to a lack of genetic diversity due to inbreeding a few thousand years prior, which led to 2/3rds of its species becoming extinct in less than 72 hours.

My point is, it is usually a bit more complicated that merely adding an increased chance of disease, and it could potentially be catastrophic. And it is, evolutionary speaking, unnatural and uninstinctual.

Ah I see that would fall more under moral licensing. What I meant is that in the future people who fought against gay marriage will claim they were always for it (as it becomes less socially acceptable to express homophobia).

Ah, I getcha. Very true^^

So how far is too far for you? Incest? People marrying their 3DS? (if only this was a joke.) How about sex? I feel like when you start going..."Yeah, polygamy is probably sustainable and mentally healthy." I don't even understand why'd you deny anyone love at that point. Go full progressive. For lack of better term.

LooooooooooooL.

I feel like when we go past gay territory, we should go by what psychologists recommend. Polygamy is already proven to be somewhat unhealthy, however I am not against the rights for it. I think Incest is unhealthy mentally and physically for a child.
Neil tilted his body slightly to the side as the coffee cup flew past him to hit the wall. He didn't blame Cheng for blowing up for a moment. The man had been far too calm earlier. Neil had expected an outburst at some point. Thankfully he calmed immediately however, and they received the details.

"It could just be a routine kidnapping. Pretty women are unfortunately taken sometimes..." Neil said, slipping his hands into his pockets as he voiced that uncomfortable fact. Cheng composed himself well enough, but they could see that he was obviously doing his best to appear cool and collected. "Do you have any enemies we should know about, Mr. Cheng?" Neil asked him, gazing upwards at the man. The executive raised his hands as high as his shoulders in defeat.

"I do have some unsatisfied investors...people who owe me money. Those in the mining business that..." He stopped, blinking as he considered an intrusive thought. "I don't think that these people would do this, but there was a business partner I had to cut ties with recently. Kramer Mining and Productions, one of the burgeoning businesses out here that specialize in mining asteroid minerals, though they sometimes go planet side. I just... they're reputable from what my sources tell me. Seems unlikely it's them."

"Well it's a start," Neil said to Sayeeda, giving Taya a wink. "What about the investors? Any of them on the station?"

"All of them are." He said glumly. "If you go to the eastern wing of the Commons, you'll find a Center for Shareholders. We partner up and, recently my bank has been having problems with who we invest with. Pirates attack cargo ships, and we lose capital. But how would that be my fault?" He seemed utterly helpless at the moment, as if asking some higher power. Neil honestly felt for the man, in general.

"Don't worry sir, we'll figure this out for you as best we can." The Pilot declared, clicking his teeth together. "Where's Kramer located?"

"I...about a million kilometers off station on a smaller satellite station."

"By the way, can we have our money back?"

How do you mean?

To claim they were for gay marriage so they can continue with the bigoted thing they were going to say anyway :P

@SleepingSilence
I think you need to reread what I said. I stated that I don't think what is happening is effective. However, conservatives don't try to solve it with... anything.
Everyone was always in favor of gay marriage now that it is politically necessary to have been so.

I feel like that's the political equivalent of being like "I'm not racist, but..."
