Hamerlin own instincts for action and the need to do things had broken the PTSD for now seeing the flash of the gun fire and the enemy engaging. The rattle of the machine guns brought back the thoughts of the deafening booms and sounds of heavy machinery as main battery cannons fired shells that could not be lifted by less than 10 men…

“Well mi lady, I must serve in the noble defense of this flying vessel, keep us on track and keep the speed up, we will need the montium to break the final set of hills.” The older officer said with a little bit of a roguish style and some drama, honestly he was risking life and limb, he might as well have a little fun while he was doing it. It was better than breaking down anyway. If he had to go, he would go rogue and not hide if death chose to claim him after missing him the first time.

The old man could break down later. Right now he had lives relying on him, a crew that relied on unity and some instincts remained regardless of time, space or nation.

He moved out into the cold wind as the flew through the passing low valleys and into the cover of the walls and terrain that would hopefully mask their route and slow down enemy radio communications.

“Right, lift, link, lock, cock, and release the safety…” He said to himself as he saw the machine gun, a gun he was not fully trained on but had remembered enough from the weapons demonstration trials at military exhibition to know the basics. “Burst Fire, keep it cool, reset, fire again…repeat ” He said recalling the drill in the machine gun contests, the teams that won had not let the guns get away with themselves and controlled their fire.

“Angle of attack… range, ballistic with a higher than ground elevation…” He recalled his artillery training.

Each slotted in as he pulled the trigger. The first bursts were wildly off target but he began To walk the gun into the area of the flashes, controlled smooth fire. “Left”

Even with the fixed mounting a heavy machine gun recoil was punishing and reminded him with each volley how much ground combat was a younger man's game, old men were meant to be smarter or know when to quit.

That did not matter as he ran shots along a stream bank where he thought he saw a flash. “Reloading port side.” he shouted over the din as he reached down with a groan to grab a new box of ammunition and sent the old box crashing to the metal deck plates empty and smelling of burnt cordite.

The old box must have been least half used during the previous fight, no one had time to check everything in the chaos of their flight to safety from the reds.

Daphne

Jail

Cell block Blues

Daphne headed out after handing the key over, polite naturally though firm about the fact that it worked a certain way, it had an order about it and much as the Prince was well within his right to bend it, breaking it would just cause more headaches. After he was done the guard needed the key, otherwise the cell would be useless, they had a spare sure but having two keys running about the town in two hands?

That was asking for trouble and risks no one needed to run. One key, one guard, one person. It just made a simple sense.

As she was taught, authority was important but basix routine, structures and ways of working could be required. It was not too much to ask someone to return a key, make sure a door was locked or knock 3 times and confirm through the small window before the door was opened like at a previous time she worked guard duty to the criminal population.

“Of Course” She said and escorted the Princess out as cold air hot her face but also finally felt a surge as magic returned to her body, the speed and the clumsiness Vanished as her body began to react normally again. “Thank the goddess, I hate that feeling. Sorry, even experience never helps totally.” She could not help but say to herself and apologised to the young woman who was above her in the stations of life.

Daphne felt far more steady, less like she was impaired by a slow fog that affected her a small amount in every movement. She had grown so used to her abilities that their removal and her loss of them was unsettling. The guards' expression and nature grew a little more confident and less awkward outside of the magical suppression.

But now…what did she do as she seemed to have been elected the Princess guard until someone took over or Prince returned? Though she kept a close eye, the rush of magic could be intense as could its deprivation. “It helps Princess… it's not your noble fair…but it genuinely helps, it just seems to work.”

Daphne reached into a pouch and offered her some venison jerky, and took some to eat to prove she had not poisoned it.

Maybe it was a title risky but she did not need the Princess deciding to faint or fall ill on her watch, she had enough issues with a whole potential Royal show down going in in the cell block. Her mind ran to plans and ideas… she could take her to the Inn, it was hot and served a meal but then she caused a whole search? The wind and snow had backed off but it was hardly warm! Dawn Haven's darkness and the eternal winter had caused the climate to be lethally unforgiving.

A Squire, Sure had passed training about 3 times over in various gusises, been trained in various combat and other skills. However, the change and coming darkness had forced the guard to be deployed more and more, her more court education had been delayed and she and her master had been more and more deployed to active duty, security, guarding food and markets. So many other tasks that had caused much trouble as they faced dangers and challenges on every front.

The amount of threats they faced only added and the people grew more desperate.. day by day, that the Prince had according to some in Lunaris dawdled and delayed as they suffered to the advantage of the Sun king sussing his rivals to weaken under the pressure of a 1000 minor battles.

But the gods…they did not worry about such mortal problems and challenges. The goddess she was rather devout too but knew the kindness was not something the moon goddess was known for, do not expect miracles.

She looked about casting her eye out, to the threats, people and things moving about the area. Nothing dangerous she catalogued as she turned back to face the smaller royal woman, bundled in her far more expensive furs and clothes.

“Princess, I admit, I'm less trained in this, so, il ask. What do you want? I can escort you to the Inn, for a more comforting hot meal, wait here for the interrogation to end, any other thing within safe reason.” Daphne said and waited, she was plain but just decided to ask, what did she want, and what did she need? Market, bath, a favorite shop, Walk, anything else. Daphne would try to make them as safe as possible and still let the Princess do her own life and whatever a Princess did.

Daphne had to work from a place of very little, so let that person help you fill in the blanks.

Daphne

Jail

Cell block Blues

Daphne nodded in the tense moment, she had a rather difficult position to be as a guard, she was technically in charge and the one running the jail but then Prince and Princess was there too.

She calmed her breathing literally feeling the tension going on in the jail and the showdown between what might be Royal brothers.. royal Brothers really? What did she do to keep being dropped into these situations? First a murder scene and now this?

“By your word. I have the keys if you require them.” She said quietly and waited for what to do next, this showdown was rather grand. Though Daphne felt…slow, the magic ..anti magic was stopping her accessing her speed, abilities and enhancing her combat skills. She still had the keys to the cells, well the one working key for now, right now the two men were separated by bars of iron and unable to so easily directly harm each other.

This was the other side of the murder, the part she had been in, then the victims and now she was part of a third? Really, how much did she have to be in the centre of this storm even if the night she shared with Katherine was well worth the trouble this had caused her to land in.

And Gadez began to talk, and talk … she had no idea exactly on everything he said but began to put it together and had to admit his comment about people who should not be advisors, had taken over the seats of power. The rich, the powerful, those with gold and favour. Lord Ayel would answer that accusation entirely.

Princess, Would you like a chair, this might be long, the runes…can be… unsettling if you're not used to them.” Daphne admitted it was uncomfortable with her and she doubted it was any less strange for the Princess And Prince, though he would never sit. A small kindness and gesture she hoped would least be one comfort in this cold place.

This was not her first time feeling the runes but they still felt strange every time, like the cut off part of her body… It was plain unnatural.

She really had very little to do right now so she could try to make this place a little more comfortable… for she guessed could be termed her guests.

How on earth could a single man cause this much trouble in a matter of days? She thought as she paused and rested a hand on her hip and took a drink from a canteen and nibbled at some dried version she had acquired at the Inn.

Daphne

Jail

Cell block Blues

Daphne quiet shift as she mentally ran through the events of the last week and took change to pause as she was stuck on guard duty. Guard duty for a man who was pretty much in jail for having a big mouth and getting some Champion of the sun gods angry about it far as she had on the gossip line.

The curious inn keeper for one, she was strange, and yet people seemed to trust her, They let a blight born run the towns only Inn, and she seemed to do well. It went against every Lunaris she wad used to and yet here. It worked.

So, what else did they have to adapt to and Abaddon to the sake of survival and practical day to day operation?

Her musing was cut short as the Prince, Princess and guards came.. to the jail? Really she expected an advisor, not the Prince and especially Princess in a place like this. “Your majesties… Thankyou, we made it though safely, Priestess Kat..Katherine was a kind host for the night.” Her use of name slipped as she spoke respectfully but warmly and the younger guard, Squire and still in training stood more to attention.

“I'm afraid, we have little hospitality, stale crackers, a hard chair and water i can offer you.” She said as she picked up the keys as needed for the cells, well the one cell that was finished, the rest was…in Various stages of construction.

Then Gadez talked and she did her best to pay attention but not be overly eager, he Really liked the sound of his own voice and the ideas he had, though she had to admit some of them made sense. Some of them would have had merit if not come from a man in a Cell with a pile of stale crackers and a locked iron door. Did she really believe him, he was a raving mad man surely?

“M lord, milady, what…do you want me to do? I for one admit, my lord and lady are ones who know law from back to front, i am still learning. If even such a law works as it did under your unique situation.” She asked tentatively, execute him, let him go? Was he really going to let him get away with being one to tell him what to do, Red star, odd names, all this sounded half crazy to the younger Squire who was currently being put in charge of the jail and prisoners.

Daphne hoped she had not gone too far but she was trying to feel out the situation and the most appropriate answer within reason. Dawn Haven was not one or the other, it was a place that was a unique hybrid of the two and the laws did not always make sense. She waited, she did not leave though as despite she was still the one responsible for the jail, that did not change despite who was present.

She just waited to see what happened next.

Lady under the moon

...

Persephone knew when she was not welcome and that feeling was heavy as she stood, her intervention had been far from diplomatic but she was also in the harder line of faith, her belief was fairly strict and she did not believe that outsiders should be trespassing on holy ground.

She had been raised and brought up close to capital where the faith was far less bending and flexible. Her training and survival under the current king had also shaped her view and she had a cold anger at the guards regardless of being invited. She however was smart enough to turn that into internal anger and switched to parade ground sharp and the kind of clipped movement that was for formal court.

“I shall take my leave, may the moon bless you all, when the night is darkest, the moon is brightest.

Seluna guides us all to the light. The lady knows us all, and guides us with her hand.”
She said formally and devoutly before she retrieved her cloak that had fallen away and turned with a sharp tap as she stood. It gave away that she was from the capital but that was obvious. Her status and eventually family name gave that all away, granted they had not asked her family name yet.

“Il settle the blanket with Sya Priestess, keep warm and safe.” She said that part more softly as she left and turned to leave her sword and uniform had the insignia visible of her house, well the sword was a gift from her husband, he wanted her to have the best protection available and this one suited her well.

She turned and left pushing through the doors and heading into the winter chill, pulling her furs tighter and reaching to strike her horses neck. “Easy, easy… “ she said softly to the large mount as she chose her next steps. She still had a role, there was missing nobles.. people..blight, if all this was cured and things ended there would be much land and power that Was.. missing. Power varies were never good and she had a few… curious people in this town. Her life would not be boring but she really did need to find something to keep busy…

“Come om, we're going now.” She mounted her horse with a flair and a light tap to the flanks she was off, circling and testing her reigns before she confidently pulled and turned back towards the town but chose a wider route.

She let out horse and riders stress as she turned and quickly moved down the straight jumping a crate with a satisfying thud as a full war horse Heavy horn shod hooves landed and resumed at pace. This was why she loved this breed, hard to handle and earn its respect but once you had, they worked like you and it was but one being. Her control was perfect and she had no fear commanding with the smallest touches and pulls.

she deftly steered, slowed and made her way to the town centre, she felt better for that would have to see if guard had a track…. Or areas to exercise their mounts.

Persephone with a gentle tug pulled her mount to a halt, people wrongly thought such large animals needed a heavy hand. “Would you know a local dressmaker?” She asked as she patted the Horse's neck to keep it calm and relaxed. “Relax Agmar, relax.” She said more firmly atop her large black mount.
