Name: Doctor Wutong Ken
Alias: "Malpractice" Ken
Appearance:

Age:26
Position in crew: Doctor
Personality: Drunk. Very drunk. Constantly drunk. Some theorize that even if Ken quit the bottle cold turkey, he'd forever be in a state of inebriation as his very blood has become the essence of alcohol itself (yet to be proven). Most of the time he seems barely comprehensive, mistaking the words of others around him and falling asleep in utterly absurd and random places. He can occasionally be seen performing odd actions for no apparent reason, such as stitching his robes into his own skin, or contemplating a single banana for several minutes on end. He can be incredibly forward, speaking or acting without any thought or inhibition, and is quite the pervert. One of his go-to lines being, "You knowsh, I'ma doctor. Sssshould probly let me... Inshpect dat fer ya." However, once it is time to get serious, whether it be for a patient or for a fight, he's quick to focus, even through the beer goggles. He's not the most professional of doctors, but he'll get the job done with efficiency, even if you're screaming in pain because he just poured beer on your wound to disinfect it. Lastly, Ken dislikes talking about his past. He prefers to focus on the present, and the new memories he's to make with his crew. As such, he often pretends not to even remember that he has a past, much less what it actually is.
Powers/Abilities:
  • Unorthodox Medical Knowledge - Some would say Doctor Ken is a quack. Some say he should have his license taken away. Some aren't even sure he has a medical license to begin with. However, his treatments, as painful and unnecessary as they can be, actually work. He's not the world's greatest doctor by any stretch of the imagination (such as using his stethoscope on a patient's foot or pouring alcohol onto an open wound without the use of any anesthetic), but even when other experts are baffled he'll have something ready and up his sleeve. Just don't expect it to be pleasant.
  • Unbelievable Fortitude - Due to constantly being drunk, and the incredibly stupid things he's done to himself in that state, Doctor Ken practically feels no pain. Whether it be his organs rupturing, extreme frostbite, or some other trauma, he can power through it without even noticing the injury. Note that this can be a tremendous weakness, as he can push himself beyond he limits of his body without noticing.
  • Unending Thirst - Basically, Doctor Ken is a drunk. But not just any drunk, oh no, he's the world's biggest drunk. Basically, there is no such thing as "too many to drink" for this man. He has won a very considerable amount of money by showing up to drinking contests (already drunk, natch) and drinking everyone else under the table. That's when they get for underestimating his limitless thirst for alcohol.
  • Drunken Boxing - When it comes time to prove his worth on the field of battle, Wutong Ken's fighting style is just as abnormal as his medical practice. He utilizes the style of the Drunken Fist to throw his opponents off balance and attack in deceptively creative and unexpected ways.

Techniques:
  • Devil's Breath - Utilizing his addiction, Ken breathes right into the enemy's face. His horrid, rancid breath is so disgusting that it should put them off immediately, if not induce a fit of vomiting.
  • Dragon's Breath - An extension of the above, Ken ignites his alcohol-laden exhalation with his ki, breathing out a stream of flames.
  • Suture Trap - While dodging about in unpredictable ways, Ken deftly makes use of his sewing needle and stitching skills, sewing an opponent's clothes (or skin) to... Anything around. Other opponents, the ground, their weapons, whatever.
  • Reverse Monkey Palm - Ken throws a punch, but it acts as a feint. Instead this momentum goes into doubling his torso forward while he brings up a foot to plant right in his opponent's face.
  • Python Coil - A defensive maneuver. As an enemy approaches and attacks, he locks his elbow with theirs in a fluid motion, and throws them.
  • Butt Press of Doom! - Ken swerves his body around while sweeping at his opponent's legs to knock them down. In the same motion, he allows himself to fall flat on his ass, right on their face. Usually followed up with a nasty passing of gas.

Background: Doctor Wutong Ken keeps his history close to the heart. To this day he hasn't told a single one of his crewmates a single detail about where he came from or what led to him stowing away on the ship inside of a wine barrel. Of course he does have a history, he just prefers not to remember it. He was born to a wealthy family of doctors on a small island in the South Blue. As he was the youngest of 6 children, all of whom had gotten their medical licenses, there was a great deal of pressure put on the baby of the family. He studied the profession as best he could to appease his family, but found his true passion was in fighting. Ken eventually found an outlet for his pent of frustrations in an underground boxing ring, where he'd travel to every month under the excuse of it being "for his studies." Technically he was studying the human body up close, just in taking it apart rather than fixing it.

It was difficult living up to his family's expectations while spending so much time training and fighting in illegal matches, but the thrill was worth it. At least it was worth it. One fateful day Ken returned to his home to find the estate had been razed to the ground, and all his family slaughtered. They had harbored a sickly pirate during this particular trip he had taken, seeing it as their duty to heal any injured they came upon. The marines saw it as aiding and abetting a criminal, and so they were found guilty of the pirate's same crimes under the rules of Absolute Justice. Ken cursed his absence. Had he been there, he might have made a difference. He might have been able to fight the marines off, or maybe save some lives, but it was too late. Everybody was dead. On that day, Ken began wandering and took up the bottle to drown his sorrows, and never looked back. One day he found himself inside of a wine barrel, which was loaded up onto a pirate ship. Ever since he accidentally stowed away, Ken has stayed with the crew under captain "Redcoat" Hunter.

So it doesn't look like you addressed my question back in the interest check. Would you allow a fetch instead of a changeling?
<Snipped quote by Medjedovic>

Good to have your interest! And don't worry, you don't need to have played Changeling before - if and when this gets enough interest to make an OOC, I'll include a better and more complete explanation of it there.

<Snipped quote by ProPro>

Ah, right. I completely forgot about Mummy as a contender, which I think says all there is to say about it, really. And I can respect the tonal issues with Changeling - I always thought that, while a more grim and horrifying fairy tale game was interesting, they went a little too far to make it hopeless, which is something I was planning to resist in this RP - more beautiful madness, less mad sadness.

I actually find the Fetch more interesting than changelings, particularly a fetch that has had the unfortunate circumstance of their original coming back and having to face the fact that they're a fake person. If I have the time available, I might consider playing if you're fine with a fetch.
Quite the opposite, actually. Beast is my number one favorite, second only to Classic WoD vampire. The other that I have no interest in is the ever vague and pointless Mummy. For Changeling, I just dislike how White Wolf took their most optimistic and cheerful game and turned it into something so different and sucked out all the joy. That said though, I'm likely to shadow this. WoD is my absolute favorite RP storytelling setting, so saying this is one of my least favorite WoD splashes is like saying mint chocolate is my least favorite chocolate.
Swing and a miss. You picked one of the only 2 World of Darkness game titles I actually am not interested in. :(
No, Armostos' one true love! Don't let her get away, win it for her Armostos!

Also, a nine day stretch... did poor HeroicSociopath die or something? :( or is my RP style too tedious and slowing things down. I can always make like Elzar and kick it up a notch if ppl would like things to really get rolling.

The crowds for the fight between Gorn and the Rito known as Kiru were not as impressive as Confitti had hoped, there were mostly gambler-types in a sparse area on his side of the arena, likely sizing up Gorn's performance and looking for wise bets, and the other side was full of... Fans? Fan girls, most of which were Rito women. Lots of them, it seems there opponent was some sort of celebrity, which was true. The Rito people had a very aesthetic-based culture, idols and prolific warriors trying to stand out among one another, like colorful birds during mating season. Their opponent in particular was sporting a navy coat with golden tips, his clothing was quite modest, it seemed like upper-class dojo garb for a swordsman, there were scant amount of decorations on it, to give it a simple flair. It was functional yet fashionable so it seemed.

"A mysteriously lightning-powered Goron... A mage perhaps? But he seems not to have the wit of one or the equipment of one...", the Rito analyzed his opponent, unable to figure out his trick, which was quite simply a lightning-wielding swordsman Minish.

"Silly grown-ups with their poor eyesight. He can't even tell that I'm his opponent! That'll be surprising..." Confliti flexed his muscles from atop Gorn's shoulder.

In any case, both competitors took their positions, and as soon as the bell was rung the battle began.

Kiru was a smart fighter, keeping his distance from Gorn for the moment, occasionally he would send out a wave of silver energy that hugged the ground from his blade, drawing it to strike the ground and execute the attack before sheathing it again. He was looking to make an opening.

Unfortunately for Kiru, Gorn had no intentions of giving him any openings. Every attack that came the goron's way was met with a sidestep, or a mighty shield. He had an agreement with his little buddy, and Gorn wasn't about to break their strategy. Defend, deflect, but let the minish attack. The duo stood strong and steady, waiting for their opponent to create his own opening. An opening Confliti could use to get on his like a determined flee.

"No intention of attacking hm?", it wasn't an option to try and flank, the hard back of the Goron made such an attempt difficult with his weapons, but Kiru did have one other option, he was the much faster foe. Even if attacking from the front or behind was a difficult task, there was always the sides.

The Rito made a grunt before his movements began to redouble, he would send out a wave, and before it would even meet with Gorn's shield he had already moved to the side to send out yet another, and this went on for a short while. He knew this may tire him out, but he wanted to figure out the Goron's secret. Normally such a defensive foe would have been crushed, on virtue of not attacking, but there was the deal with mysterious lightning. How did he do it?

Gorn tried blocking the quick Rito but felt like he was being overwhelmed. He tried a different strategy. Gorn attempted to read their opponent's movements. He was a fast Rito, but if they could figure out where he would appear they could severely weaken him with another lightning blow. Gorn yelled out,"Heads up!" He swung a huge arc with his chainball from right to left. The swing was high..a little too high. It would miss the Rito's head by a few inches. But Gorn's plan wasn't to actually hit him. It was to defend his flanks and give Confliti an opening down low. Gorn winked at his friend as he performed the manuver.

Confliti didn't need to be told twice; the two were in perfect sync. As Gorn winded up the swing the little minish had already taken up his position on the ball, grabbing hold of his guard rail for a strong grip. Wind rushed through his hair, brushing back his tail, and he traveled far faster than any minish normally was capable. Once overhead of their foe, Confliti released the ball and withdrew his sword, plummeting straight down at his target. However, he did not count on gravity to do all the work. Calling upon his minish ancestry and their connection to the elements, Confliti supercharged his body with a burst of electric speed by casting his Lightning Rush. Straight for the rito's head he dashed, sword pointed straight down.

The Rito was about to duck, but realized that the arch and swing... It wasn't going to hit him. A feint perhaps? Still, he was attacking and now may be his chance to figure out what was up. His feathers quivered, and he felt a chill all over his body, he recognized this feeling, 'danger'. He needed to move from that position. By instinct he stepped away from his spot, he moved with very little style, opting for speed over substance, as he witnessed a line of lightning for a short moment... So, the secret was the ball and chain? Interesting.

The Rito was dodging Confliti, Gorn needed a way to manuever him back into the lightning without attacking him. He took his shield and attempted to knock the Rito into the lightning of Confliti's sword.

"What the-?" Confliti exclaimed, completely missing his target. The ito had somehow sensed the danger and already moved out of the way, which meant the minish was now heading straight for solid ground at the speed of lightning. There was no way he could completely recover and rebound, not at the speed he was currently traveling, but he could soften the blow. Confliti willingly dispelled his charge, but gravity ensured his fall continued. Keeping his sword straight forward, the minish warrior took advantage of his blade striking the ground first so that he could throw his weight parallel to the ground.

Confliti tumbled, getting scuffed and bruised as he skipped inches along the ground like one would skip a stone across the pond. Once he slowed enough, he jumped back onto his feet, ready to continue the fight. He dodged despite Gorn's iron ball missing. Can he see me? No, that's not it. He probably noticed that the last guy got shocked after the ball missed him. Which means... He grinned with mischievous joy. He won't be expecting this!

Once again the minish cast his Lightning Rush spell, only this time instead of charging down from above, he shot straight for his opponent's chest, sword pointed forward. The only thing anybody should see, if anything at all, would be a small static charge lunging from the ground to the rito's sternum.

The Rito's eyes were fixed on the Goron, unbeknownst to him there was an invisible foe, but with his blade sheathed and combat feathers drawn from his wing he was ready to use a new move, but his senses rang out once again, though this time, he did not seem to already be focused on the actual threat. He looked to where his senses pointed him, but it was already too late, all he saw was a speeding blast of static energy, striking hiim off his feet as he took a direct blow, sending him flying back. the shock was enough to black out the Rito. Physical trauma he can weather, but magical? Unfortunately he had no means to protect himself from that. With that, the battle was over. The crowd went wild at the double-lightning whammy, while Kiru's fans, the Rito, wailed in anguish before medics went to retrieve the Rito for treatment.

It seems Gorn and unknown to everyone Confitti would be moving onto the semi-finals against Armostos.
I concur.

Just a suggestion for an arc, Robot Dinosaur Island. I just want the craziness of a pirate riding a mechanized t-rex like a bucking broncho.

Also what Archmage said regarding your most recent questions I guess. ^^; I will insistently refer to it as Roguetown though because the Loguetown romanization has always annoyed me. It's a town full of rogues, after all!

I always thought it was a reference to the Log Compass...

It's in reference to literature. The prologue and epilogue of a story, as it was Roger's place of birth as well as his death.

Hi. Been shadowing. Not joining, too busy, but I saw a spot I could throw my two cents in.
@solokolos has setup a posting plan with me for the next 1-2 days with his last final exam about to be done. @Lugubrious is on an overseas trip with limited/unreliable internet, and other games he runs/participates in. @Eklispe, all Jacks have now posted, so you should be able to get Sophia updated soon.

I believe this addresses everyone left in the major teams. Let me know if I've missed anybody. Now that exam season should be over for everyone, I'm contemplating the enforcement of a posting requirement. I tire of this game having slowed so greatly since a certain individual ingrained in multiple important positions left us. I'll let everyone know what I've decided once I've thought things over, but know one thing. I'm a stubborn jerk and I refuse to lose. :)
Here's a guest NPC I'm planning on using.

If you are inclined, you can also create 'guest NPCs' which may appear in the city as companions, quest-givers, or whatever. In this case, there will never be a Frenzy section, and delete whatever sections you don't use.
