Good news, I'm not failing out of my cooking course tomorrow! Bad news, it's only because I nearly sliced a chunk off my finger practicing for it and needed stitches.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. Alright, I'm declaring now that twenty is the absolute cap. Probably won't even reach it, but if we do, it's there. That means two teams of ten, or potentially more. Gonna make a discord so I can at least pretend to be a diligent GM too in just a second.
@Hamon
Honestly, I probably shouldn't because we're getting towards eighteen people now and I barely have faith in my ability to run something with five, but at the same time I want to let anyone who's interested in, because I know there isn't really much in this genre, especially in RP form. I might split the group down the middle and make two or more separate teams. That way we can all play and it shouldn't be too chaotic. Hopefully.
Cool, I think we could probably squeeze you both in!

Also, I was going to make an update anyway, so this seems like the perfect time. This is still a thing, it's not dead, and despite my asthma's best efforts, neither am I as of yet. Only problem is that I caught that friend I asked to make the map right in the middle of a bunch of exams and other school stuff, so it may still be a little while. Honestly thinking of maybe making a discord or something for this, so I can keep popping in to say it isn't dead without bloating this thread, and hey, maybe discuss some world questions and improvise world building every time you ask questions I haven't thought of myself yet!

Shirou flinched away as Makoto started shouting at him. He knew he really should trust that she wasn't going to start anything, but... Well, he still wasn't so sure... Of course, if he wanted to pass, he should probably also avoid antagonizing her if possiblein the interests of not being beaten up himself.

"O-ok, ok, I'm sorry for doubting you!" He said, holding up his hands and trying to keep the nervousness out of his smile, although he had little doubt the efforts were proving futile. "You have incredible s-self restraint and I'm sure you'll be able t-t-to remain in c-control!"

Thankfully, Yasu managed to distract her from continuing further with an unexpectedly heartfelt speech about how much their time together as a team meant to him. Also equally important, he agreed with Shirou's statement, which only added to the appreciation. Even if the praise left him a little embarrassed.

Before he could say anything though, he heard a voice that he had long since learnt not to expect anything good from. He reluctantly turned to see one of his main tormentors, one who had been targeting him since even before they started in the academy.

Mochi Genji. The two had met through his best and only friend outside his team, Kurimi, who just so happened to be the boys cousin, and ever since that day he'd looked down on Shirou. At this point, he generally knew exactly what to expect as soon as he heard Genji's voice. However, that wasn't what had him worried. In fact, he could say with pride that he was quite used to the bullying by now, and had learned to deal with it.

No, what did irritate him somewhat was the gaudy wakizashi he was flaunting around, all while insulting the quality of his family's own weapons. Except even a student blacksmith like him could see that the weapon was in no way suited for combat. Probably not even made for combat, when he thought about it. It looked like more of a decorative piece. The knowledge brought a frown to his face. Whoever sold the blade to Genji's parents should've made sure they were aware of that fact if they had any pride in their craft. To not do so could get the genin killed!

Before he could try to warn Genji of the danger the weapon could put him in however, the boy went ahead and decided to do it himself by jumping straight from insulting him and Yasu to something even Shirou understood was a poor excuse for flirting.

I should stop this before Makoto-san kil-

And then Makoto obliterated him, leaving Shirou to simply stare for a moment, mouth still half open to try and tell Genji to stop for his own safety.

Eventually, all he could do was bring the outstretched hand up over his face and sigh.

"Makoto-san..." He said, and even he was surprised by the frustration he heard in his voice. "I-... Why?.. Why-why-why, why, we j-just... just talked about this. I know Genji was being really rude, but what if th-this gets us disqualified?"

Also Genji's well being. He should probably be kind of worried about that too. He was a Mochi though, so he'd probably be fine.

"I... I hope we don't get kicked out already..." He said, before glancing back to his teammates again. "But maybe Yokoni-sensei might be able to talk anyone who wants us out to into letting us stay in. I'm sure she and the other Jonin-sensei's are watching us all in here, after all."

"SHIROU!" the loud voice of one Hijikata Tsubaki rang through the house as she burst through the door into her sons room. "Todays the day, get up and get ready so you don't leave your team wa- oh."

"Morning." Shirou said from his position on the bed, not taking his eyes away from the book sat on his lap. "I'll be out in a second."

"Couldn't sleep huh? How long?"

"Five hours, I think. I haven't really been paying attention to it."

His mother chuckled lightly, before pulling the book from his hands and lightly bopping him on the head with it.

"Then I'd say that's more than enough time to spend with your nose in a book. Come out and eat, so you can try to get at least a little of your strength back."

After merely a second of hesitation, Shirou sighed and nodded, climbing off the bed to follow her into the kitchen.

"Where's dad?"

"Probably in the forge already. We got an order in just recently which we're hoping to get done by the end of the exams."

"Hmmm?" He hummed as he started eating. "I'll have to say bye before I leave."

He looked up to his mother, the bags under his eyes even larger than usual as he tried and failed to hide the nervousness in his voice.

"So... you did this too, right? How did you keep yourself calm?"

"By beating up a group of the other genin in the waiting area. Freaked out for a week before that though."

She narrowed her eyes, targeting Shirou with an icy stare.

"But don't you go thinking it's a good idea. I could've screwed my chances right then and there, and I'd better not here that you or any of your team decided to risk it yourselves!"

"I won't! Y-you know I won't!"

Makoto.

He paused as the name passed through his mind.

"She probably won't either."

"Mhmm..." Tsubaki said, a skeptical expression on her face. The expression quickly disappeared however, replaced by a wide smile. "Well, you know what? I was thinking of doing this anyway, but why not make it an incentive? If you and those two manage to pass the exams, we'll make them something of their choice, free of charge."

Shirou nearly choked at his mothers words, looking up at her in a combination of shock and terror.

"Mom, are you feeling alright?"

"Don't be silly, dearest son of mine. I'm never in anything less than perfect condition, you know that."

"Uh... right." Shirou said slowly. "Well, I'd better get going or I'll be late. I'll see you soon!"

"Well, soonish... But I know you'll make it through in the end! Now go say bye to your father."

No sooner had she said the words that Shirou was already making his way to the forge.

"Dad, mom's ok right?"

"Hey brat!" His father, Hijikata Shinzou, said with a tired looking grin. "She's pretty nervous about you and the exams, but other than that, she seemed pretty fine. Why, did something seem wrong?"

"She said if we passed, she'd forge Yasu-san and Makoto-san a free weapon each."

His fathers eyes widened at Shirou's words.

"That is kinda unnerving, isn't it?" He said. "Guess I'll hide all our sharp objects and try to make sure she gets some rest, see how she feels when she wakes up. Now get going, or you're gonna be late!"

"Right, I'll see you in a few days." Shirou said, sending his father a small wave before leaving. Thankfully, he'd already gathered anything he thought he might need the previous night, so all he had to do was get the pack from beside the door, give one final wave goodbye to his mother, and then head off to the meeting area.

It wasn't until after the Hokage had finished her speech that he finally found Makoto and Yasu and made his way over to him. He had just made it into earshot when Yasu asked where he was.

"I'm here, Yasu-san." He said, nodding to his teammate in greeting before turning to the other one. "Makoto-san, you're m-making a scary face. Y-you're not planning to start a f-fight, are you?"

He tried not to let himself sound too nervous as he spoke. True, spending three years with Makoto and Yasu had done a great deal to make him less scared of them, but that didn't erase it completely. Well, actually, he was pretty decent with Yasu, but Makoto was still kind of... 'overwhelming'... However, he quickly remembered that he wouldn't have to resort to his pathetic negotiation skills to convince Makoto not to fight, because his mother had provided him with bribery.

"It would be a b-bad idea to fight anyone before the exams h-have even started, M-Makoto-san. My mom said that if we passed, she'd let you both request a w-weapon, and she'd make it and give it to you f-for free. But if we fight another t-team now, we could risk i-injuring ourselves and being disqualified before the exam even starts..."

While he might have started out strong, his nerves had him quieting down steadily throughout his explanation, until he was barely speaking loud enough to hear at the end.

Hey everyone! Sorry for going silent the last few days. Most of it was spent entertaining some relatives from overseas, so I didn't have much free time. The last day has been spent trying to figure out how to use GIMP so I can make the map. And, after about five hours of looking around the internet and experimenting on my own, I'm proud to say that I have no goddamn idea what I'm doing. I'm going to start working on the character sheet so I don't feel as disappointed in myself, but in the end I'm not sure how the maps gonna go. I have some plans, of course, but I'll have to wait and see how it goes.
