The paladin took note of the looks the captain was getting from the mercenary leader and... ignored them entirely. It was none of her business what happened in personal relations, so long as it didn't get in the way of the order's stated purpose or let politics get into their operation. A mercenary that operated in multiple nations with no backing? That was far better than many alternatives.

Her response to even seeing a random carriage under threat was entirely predictable: charge her horse at the carriage and then, realising that the horse was entirely inadequate for this sort of attack, sliding off of it and catching herself only to resume a full run, at about the same point Fanilly gave her order. The most important difference was that when everyone got there, Tyaethe would be at knee height.

A dozen horses and broken limbs would be fine until they worked out what to do with them.

"If they wouldn't normally do this, do you have any idea how to contact or trap them? My family has a lot of reach and we might be able to arrange buying it off them if we can supply a reason for knowing they have it... then just take it," Ryuuko suggested, treating the idea of robbing the thieves entirely too easily. She'd extort them without a second's thought, too. "Though I would rather deal with this without falling back on my connections."

Yuuko's explanation, as shallow as it had been, was accepted without question: there were more important things to deal with right now than how angry a teenager was at someone walking into the room. She might be able to find out the real reason why later but the job took precedence.

These men were bona fide insane. The strange green mist that was constantly around one of them reminded her unpleasantly of the original FIS base--though at least it wasn't the red. That ruled out it somehow being anti-LiNKER and this another front for mad science to destroy the world. Being mad science simply out to conquer the world wasn't a huge step up, in the white-haired girl's opinion.

Step one in recognising the insanity was a plan to liberate people from their oppressors whilst claiming that you weren't going to fight anyone. Step two was attaching a cult to it. It just wasn't going to end well if you put unquestioning faith into someone who claimed their plans were good.

The last time she had done that, it ended with a huge chunk of the moon destroyed.

"You can justify anything by saying it's for their benefit," Chris stated, not taking the armoured hand at all and stepping backwards. He was, after all, larger than a small half-Japanese girl, "And I've never heard of Tiberium, but you look more like soldiers than charity."
