Being truly on my own is a bit of a weird feeling. It's never really happened.

Let it never be said that sometimes extreme brevity isn't the most appropriate post, though. Everything is a tool.

Anyone want to give me a quick summary of everything?

Someone stole a super evil sword fragment from the mage's college and ran off with it. Someone else killed the thieves (who of all things called us for help).

So, half the knights are currently trying to find whoever wants this thing.

The other half are dealing with the worst-phrased help request ever.
I live, but I'm right at the end of an undergrad course. Posts here take a while to write and get long, so I'm slow about getting them done.

But after next week, I should have less things that need to all be done at once. So that'll be nice.
Sir Lancelot

The knight came to a halt when the skeletal army opened up, having been unable to find a weapon that seemed ideally suited for the task of clearing a significant chunk of the walking dead around him. Not until now, if the look of the sword that Lancelot held in his hands was any indication. It was too perfect, yet the feel and the styling felt like an echo of a blade that once he had fought beside but later forced to confront. Yet it couldn't be Galatine; the lengths and styling were slightly different. A sword that was like Galatine and Excalibur but unalike, yet not in the same way that his Arondight differed...

This sword was unquestionably of a lineage nearly equal to the Sword of Promised Victory and yet greater than Galatine. It was yet another question that would never be answered: how Caladbolg had made its way from the King of Heroes' treasury to Ireland. Yet now the original was in his hands and would have to be put to use against the dark-skinned Servant in front of him.

The madness in this enemy's eyes was plain to see, an unsettling reminder of his own flaws. But madness was exploitable; lost in his own rage, his king had been a distraction that anyone could take use of had they worked it out. Against an enemy that didn't have the wits to see through even the simplest ruse... he could afford to try and end the battle in a single blow the moment it began.

A sane foe would have been able to predict what was going to happen, the knight's hand flashing up by his shoulders and undoing the clasps binding the cape. Nobody engaged in a duel would fall for such blatant preparation for the trick pulled when Lancelot surged forwards, cape being used as a feint, to blind and distract the berserker for just an instant whilst those axes cut through the fabric--an instant used to press in close to his side and drive Caladbolg up and through the stomach. Size and reach counted for nothing if you hadn't the wits to use it.

Svetleaze von Einzbern

Her Servant's strength was magnificent... though his ability to put it to the most effective use seemed to be somewhat lacking. Even without the problems of Mad Enhancement clouding combat abilities, Kintoki seemed to be very much of a "hit first and think later disposition"--in future fights, maybe she should participate more directly? Unlike many Masters, it would be difficult for her to easily be brought down in a battle against something less than a Servant, and from that range he could be directed...

When all the golems had cleared out, the Einzbern had moved once more to be within arms reach of her Servant. This meant overhearing Atalanta's suggestion.

Svetleaze looked at the approaching golem.

Then back at Kintoki.

Then back at the golem.

Its size was immense--it was bigger than the walls here, and would have stacked up impressively even against the castle she viewed as home. Certainly, there were Servants that would be easily able to annihilate such a thing, yet the number of Anti-Fortress Noble Phantasms was extremely few and the most famous wielder of such a thing was elsewhere on the battlefield.

"I think this might be too large a foe for even my Servant to destroy in one blow."

Honoria Sigurddottir

The musician, continuing to sit on the parapets, had switched from playing to try and ineffectually disturb the skeletons over to simply providing a level of ambience to the battle. It seemed too quiet for taking down an entire skeletal army, with the only noises able to clearly carry to hear being the sound of Gilgamesh's projectiles slamming into the ground after destroying any obstacles.

The wager was an interesting one... and had an obvious answer as far as she was concerned: "Someone that big is gonna take longer to die than a bunch of skeletons can slow down the King of Knights. Their boss is going down before Lancelot is done."
It seems fortunate that the angrier characters are currently not back at Candaeln. xD
Sir Tyaethe Radistirin

"Use the skin to disguise themselves. Ingredients in some foul ritual. Or just destroy their identity. The Roses don't attract those who deal with any form of necromancy," Tyaethe stated, voice monotone as she rose, "We need to return the body to Aimlenn for that."

The paladin was far more composed than she had been on the revelation that Cal's rebellion was still trying to destroy the land. Her anger against necromancers in general had burnt down a long time ago--but not the hatred. And from her reaction in the Cal Family mausoleum, there was no question of what would happen as soon as they worked out where the necromancer must have gone.

Without rest or sleep, they would be hunted down.

Lilianna Belwiss

It was the presumptuousness of the nobility all over again. Simply because of the circumstances of his birth, this young man seemed to cleave to the notion that the plan he had worked out before even coming here was superior to anything that the knights could come up with--even though, as a magic user, he hardly had the time to devote to the arts of war that an organisation such as the Iron Roses was founded around. Even with the requirements of religion and ceremony, they still had more of their lives to spend on the finer points of warfare and tactics.

Unfortunately, most people didn't have the authority or prestige needed to simply tell these sorts of people how cocky they were being--directly, at least.

"There seem to be two points of failure to your plan that haven't been considered. The foremost is that Fanilly has every ability to refuse to a role that uses her as bait--particularly when this was constructed without any input despite her critical role. The second is attributing a level of gullibility to these cultists that assumes a force of size equal to the knights, travelling with the captain, could ever be mistaken for a mercenary band," the grey-haired woman replied, keeping other objections to herself--the pointlessness of trying to disguise an entire order with some distinctive equipment. Or questioning why he, who underestimated them significantly, thought that they would be able to take on the entire force harassing Thaeln when half their number couldn't simply hunt them down.

Let alone how distasteful his views on letting them run rampant over the countryside whilst waiting to put this plan into action...

As Livius continued explaining, the knight's expression grew more and more clouded, fists clenched as she impatiently waited for an opportunity to extricate herself from the conversation: one that, fortunately, presented itself sooner rather than later. "Please, wait a moment before continuing."

Lilianna made an about turn, crossing to the tables at a measured pace and saying something to one of the knights seated there, a message that rippled through the hall as the fencer returned to the Sunfield. The tightness in her fists was gone, though not the frown. "I have asked those stationed here to prepare to move out. If there is trouble as you say, then we cannot afford to wait on the captain's return to protect our borders. Nor can we reject assistance, though formally joining must be put off until this matter is resolved."

There was a reason for half the knights' staying behind even when there was a fort under imminent attack, and it wasn't because of laziness. This way, unless too many resisted the idea, it would be easy for them to respond to suitable threats even in the absence of a clear chain of command... and ritual murder on Thaeln's border was a better cause for immediate reaction than most.

@Raineh Daze Quick question: Was the "That applies to you as well, Miss" meant to be directed at me? If so, I'll make a brief edit acknowledging it.

Half giant, actually.
Post complete.

You missed one mention. I've got someone there too. :P

Lilianna's morning had been spent taking stock of what currently remained at Candaeln--both in the supplies sense, as far too much space was still being taken up by the inexplicable appearance of dozens of jars of lime marmalade, and in case the king had something that demanded the intervention of another hundred blades or so. It seemed that breaking from the accounting for lunch was more than necessary from the people gathering around the entrance to the mess hall. It seemed that she wouldn't be able to take a break after all...

"Sunfield, is your entire family bereft of sense? Fanilly is not here. Even if you had the authority to demand a meeting when the knights owe no fealty to your parents, there is no way for her to be summoned. You may either wait and deliver your missive upon her return or you can deliver it to us now and return home," the grey-haired knight said, straightening out her coat. Three of them in a few weeks? It was beginning to seem like there was some infestation among the knights. At least the girls hadn't taken their family's rank straight to the head and assumed it allowed them to ignore the very structure of the realm.

"That applies to you as well, miss. Fanilly is leading many of the knights on royal business and, as such, could be occupied for any length of time."
