What do you want out of the PW?

Previously in this thread there have been discussions for major events to be logged and a sort of summarized history created and tracked. That said, I stand by my previous statement in that players should invest the time into reading old posts and threads if they want to get the most out of the game.

Look at it this way, you can jump right into an ongoing television series and after a bit you'll start to find your way around but there will still be a lot of continuity lost on you. Most people would binge the previous seasons to get caught up and I do believe that should be the case when joining an ongoing roleplay especially one larger in size where player actions will make up the majority of the world's shape.

I don't think it should be mandatory but then I agree that it should be encouraged as good practice. Especially for players wanting to make more influential characters.

There's certainly a mixed bag when it comes to this topic, but I've always been in stronger agreement with at least taking the time to read as much as you can through each post in order to gain a better understanding of the characters, their influences, as well as an overall feeling of the mood/setting, etc. Also, I find reading through (rather than getting a summary), helps a new player when it's time to actually write out a post because their character feels that much more embedded in the story as though they'd been there the whole time.

Summaries, however, are a great alternative to at least gain a basic understanding of what's going on, but for a player who might be serious about really sinking into the role, there's no substitute for reading cover to cover.

What do you want out of the PW?

Groups of players with IC families in fantasy sci fi settings. Hard darkness, bright neons, and cold rains in cityworlds where a pair of slicer players dive into a cyberpunk noir story.

I'd love for less "epic galaxy-wide plots" and something more planet-based, or perhaps city/neighborhood. I've always loved Coruscant for settings, especially the gritty underbelly and all [insert number here] levels since any faction can be apart of the madness.

Continuing Our Story: New Beginnings

Ethan noticed the subtle shift in the woman’s expression as she looked straight passed the man sitting across from her. As Clare proceeded to excuse herself from their conversation and grab her phone, Ethan turned his head slightly wondering what seemed to pull her attention away at that moment. There she goes again. He thought, realizing that this wasn’t anything new to him, even back when they were a thing. But if anyone knew how much your career could pull you down it’s own road at any moment, it was him. Although, he never compared his own job as a “Nightclub Consultant” to that of a New York City cop. They had their own shit to swim through on a daily basis, and that was just not something Ethan ever wanted to deal with no matter how noble the cause.

As if the girl could sensed the man's thoughts, she promised to put the phone away for good, which elicited a smile from the other. He hoped that was the last at least for the evening.

When the server arrived -a new face of course- Ethan ordered a bottle of wine that would match with their meal, as well as taking the initiative to order for them both. If the man could boast about anything, it was a sharp memory, and he remembered what Clare liked even in her indecisiveness.

“Let’s start with the Ahi tuna & spicy lobster rolls and see where we go from there.” He nodded, glancing at the latin beauty across from him and giving a flirtatious wink. She knew he knew. “And let the chef know that we'd like that special dipping sauce he makes upon request. He'll know what you're talking about.” Ethan grinned. Funny enough, neither he nor Clare ever found out what was mixed in with the usual sauces, but it was something that gave the sushi a hell of a kick as well as acting as an aphrodisiac to a certain degree. Overall, it was quite the experience.

Carlos nodded, thank them both for their orders, and went on his way.

“So, Clare.” Ethan leaned forward a bit with a serious expression and his hands folded on the table. “What's a girl like you, doing in a place like this?” Moments later, a smirk formed across his lips along with a slight chuckle. “God, what the hell were the odds of running into one another after all those years? And more importantly, how's it feel being one of the few female detectives in the Five Boroughs?” He shrugged, then leaned back casually in his chair. “I did a bit of research earlier. Amazing what Google tells you these days.”

Coming in a bit late to this party, but as a dad with three girls (9-12 range), I'd have to say, yes, it's a hell of a lot different when they are yours. Sure, they'll sass you, challenge you at every turn, and essentially try to hack their way through a good part of their responsibilities. But after the chaos settles and you all have a chance to sit down together as a family, it's worth the anguish.

Of course I'm still waiting for that day when they finally say: "You were right, dad."

Granted. Bugs and all his friends "save" humanity by randomingly dropping Acme anvils from the sky for the remainder of the year.

I wish for x-ray vision.
