Nousagi couldn't help but wonder what his opponent had in mind. Was this a ninjutsu fight? A taijutsu fight? He looked at his opponent, eyes passing through his clothing. And... A single kunai? Just the one, really? He couldn't help but be amused, but the blade seemed to used that he could sense the chakra that had become so much a part of the metal. Guess he was fighting a weapon user then. Well, Nousagi wasn't too worried about that. After all, the deadliest weapon could very well be a touch if he wanted it to be. Nousagi tapped his foot, a self made rhythm. After all, the gentle fist was a dance in the hands of a master. Tap... Tap... Tap...

And yet, his opponent was forming handseals, a spark of chakra moving to his lips. But no sound. No attack, just repetition. There was something very suspicious about that already, but... The lack of sound was the bit that told him something was wrong. Not the handsigns. Not the repetition. And... He charged as he heard words behind him. But not behind him. Not to defend himself... No. He knew something was wrong right off the bat. After all, a genjutsu needed a catalyst. And if that rush of chakra went to the lips, that meant it was vocal. Kaito hadn't said a word. Instead... He was throwing his voice. Not a unique skill by any means. Assassins did it all the time. Some could do it without jutsu.

Nousagi was a blur as he charged Kaito head on. Tap... Tap... Tap... His feet hit the ground three times, and when he landed in front of Kaito, he decided to start with something simple. One hand held out, full palm, aimed for the chest. This wasn't a gentle fist. No, it was a thrust. Like a shotgun shell that could shut down a system with a single smack. If he struck the chest, or a limb, he expected a full shutdown on the area he struck, and the surrounding area.

"An illusion of you would be preferable. After all, something that doesn't exist can't possibly be more disappointing than the very real coward in front of me!" Those words weren't hot, but cold. Cold like a white rabbit in a snowstorm.

LIGHTNING ROUND

The proctor watching the lightning challenge had to admit that they where a clever bunch. Unlike any other challengers they actually intended to agitate their enemy. Shame they didn't try much else. They might have noticed the ultimate give away hidden in the shadows. But as each drum echoed with a thundering boom the whole room shook. Violently at that. A lamb on the ceiling rattled free, crashing to the ground and losing its flame. Three more followed suit, smashing to the floor. A few more shadows danced around the room, but that was fine. But where shadows drifted, something odd was happening. Budha's golden frame was less... Golden. Not that it mattered much. They still couldn't see it for what it really was.

But the beast? They could see that. The barrier shook with a flash of impact, rattling their world again. And as the attack, reverberated through the room, they could see all together for a moment what the beast really was. A wolf. A blue wolf at least twenty feet tall. But it wasn't the fact that it was a wolf that drew the most attention, it was what the wolf was made of. Another flash of light and the room rattled. The beast slamming against each wall in turn as if the drums terrified it. This... Was Raiju, the wolf made of lightning! Crackling lightning scorched the ground, tearing up floor boards as it ran. And then... Vanished. Hiding somewhere on the glorious budha's body.

Clever kids. But it wasn't over yet.

NO! Kurin had been too caught up in the moment. He tossed his ally into the air, right at the golem, failing to realize that it could move so fast. NO! STUPID! He held out his hand, reaching out towards Jaakuna. The poor boy was right in the path of the beam, could he reach in time!? Kuring arm splinted like wood, shooting out thick wooden stakes in the shape of a hand. Faster than a bullet, but still much to slow! The beam engulfed his ally, and his heart sunk like a brick. He'd just killed his own ally! What a fo- Wait, Jaakuna was still alive! Kurin's wooden arm grabbed the boy by the waist, dragging him back to his allies. And then... Kurin noticed the missiles.

Touching Jaakuna, he could feel something different. A magnetic field. Yes, he could tell in a moment. After all, the golems earlier all carried that magnetic charge, which gave them life. Like a battery! His eye zoomed in, looking at the missiles. Yep, those where drills, and... They where targetting the magnetic Jaakuna. "WHIPLASH!" Kurin shouted, spinning around in place. This arm still extended like a massive whip, still holding Jaakuna. It was like watching a pro throw a softball. A fast ball center pocket! But the target wasn't the beast this time. No, with expert skill, Jaakuna was going a step further. Wood grew up, supporting Jaakuna, and as he reached the right moment... He let go.

Jaakuna was a missile of his own. It'd all rely on the boy to situate himself, but with eyes between the gap in the robot's stance, Kurin knew his aim was perfect. Student president every year in a row, he was never wrong. The missiles would take the shortest route to Jaakuna, of that he was sure. And most importantly, the shortest route would take those drills right through the robot who had created him. A whiplash special if there ever was one!

SHIT! SHIT SHIT! Did Bumu think shit yet? SHIT! Of course! He'd gotten too wrapped up in being smart that he failed to do even common courtesy! What did mother always say!? Oh yes... 'Why are you wearing a façade?' Those words burned into the fox's mind. How many sleepless nights had Bumu spent trying to turn into a human. Why? Because the shrine was stiffing. A daily grind every day. Leaving Bumu to listen to the joyous humans who visited for blessings. Unaware that a small fox kit tended to the whole structure. In fact... Bumu remembered the moment his world changed.

It was a cold winter one day. The man came to the shrine the fox family took care of. The wind flooded through the halls, snuffing out the many candles that filled the room. As the man entered the now fireless shrine, closing the doors behind him, he turned back, and was amazed. A fire crackled on each candle where none had stood before. And there, lighting the last candle with a torch was a fox. Ash clung to the fox's body, and for a moment it could have been a shadow. Until he turned, spotting the human for the first time.
"Who, or what are you?" The old man asked, almost as if he was about to laugh. "I've never seen a fox lighting candles." Bumu didn't reply. Instead the fox was silent. Returning its attention to the last candle, and blowing out the torch. Mother always said to not speak with humans. Bumu's siblings always obeyed mother. They always hid when the humans came to the shrine to worship. And yet, Bumu watched. Mother said never to speak to them. For Bumu, unlike the rest of the young fox's siblings knew the dialect of humans.
"Wait, don't go." The human said, holding out a hand. "Do you have a name?"
"Bumu." He had no idea why, or how he'd let that slip past.
"Bumu... Such a nice name. But tell me, why are you pretending to be a fox?" It was doubtful the old man knew anything. He probably saw the fox as a human in disguise. Besides, what beasts could mimic the human language so easily? What beast would even tend for a shrine?
"But I am a fox."
"Why so sure?" Yes... Why so sure? Why does he have to be a fox? Why not... A human?

And yet as the Queen spoke, all Bumu could hear was the voice of the mother fox. Chastising! ALWAYS chastising! Every little mistake! Why!? Can't you make a mistake every now and then!? FOX OR HUMAN!? CHOOSE! The fake seal began to crumple in Bumu's hand, and the fox's heart began to race. Was it up? Who heard what she had said? Did the proctors hear? Did Koma and Kaba!? Would they trust the fox!? It was a snap back to reality as a cut sliced across Bumu's cheeks. Blood dripping into the water, and the fox could smell it. The iron that filled the room. His heart skipped a beat, and her eyes opened wide. The fox who tried so hard to hide his parentage... The fox who lied about his truth! In that moment, all who could see Bumu's eyes could tell the fox was out. A surge of chakra, but Bumu was at peace on that end. No. It was everything else firing all cylinders! Those fox eyes flicked to his allies, nodding as they all seemed to think as one.

Bumu placed his hands together, and spoke. "Barrier yourselves, now!" Bumu ordered, leaving himself to face the sea alone. And then, began a single act of carnage. See, blowing up a grenade underwater is 100% more lethal than blowing up a grenade on land. To put it simple, if you where within 15 feet of the explosion, you where dead, or giblets. Rockets erupted on mass from Bumu's body. Coming out the sleeves, pants, every hole in the fabric became a barrel. Not just one set of rockets... But hundreds. The fox knew this was now or never. And rockets flew through the sea. They didn't even need to hit. They just exploded when they got close enough. The first shark to take a rocket to the snout exploded into a sea of brilliant red gibs. The fishman next to him barrel got a scream out before his insides where crushed by the shockwave. Again and again, the jellyfish died as their insides where rearranged. The fox just laughed. Eyes wide, watching as a proud army that should have been a threat was killed by the one thing all underestimated. The simple act of an explosion underwater. The whole palace shaking as a result. But Bumu wasn't done. Those red eyes flicked to the queen, who could have attacked but would have failed. The fox's ears twitching, able to have heard any attack from her long before she made it.

"I... AM BUMU AKA!" Those words could haunt the sea queen for her whole life. The haunting words of one mortal, angry beyond rational words. At this point, Bumu could take care of the underwater stuff, hopefully. The queen may be an issue. But... if they got the scroll, they where gone and free. Bumu raised both hands, pointing them at the queen. "I'm sorry I did all that. But if anybody asks, you made it personal."
Bumu may not show it, but his team makes her cry on the inside.

As the room began to glow, it was clear the team only had a short while to set up. Kurin took in everything, mostly the large room, the golem, and it was clear that thing was their enemy. His hands clasped together, knowing that between the four of them he had the up on chakra and he wasn't as fatigued at the others. So, guess he should get the first move in while the golem was powering up. The branches of trees began to grow from the ceiling, thick roots digging in above them, step one in his first plan. A quick look at the golem made it clear he may not get the chance to use the stone it was made of as a basis for any good jutsu. But, sometimes he didn't need that.

Spores began to drift from above, a light dusting that fell onto the golem. And then, it was full alive. Kurin raised a hand, blocking the extreme light that filled the room, blinded for just a moment as he adjusted to the new source of light. Well, that alone made this whole thing a bit harder, but spores continued to drift down, getting between the exposed cracks in the golems joints. Good, for now. Because step one was-

DODGE!

Kurin jumped to the side, grabbing Jaakuna sleeve and pulling him closer just in case. Better that he take the extra precaution than let his ally get crushed. They skidded along the floor, as Kurin's eyes zipped back and forth to the two obvious batteries. It was clear Shizuka and Kiku where game planning right now, and he nodded across the distance when he received the message. As for the golem, by now it was starting to draw in energy, and Kurin was on the case. Forming a handseal, he activated the spores that had drifted into the golem's cracks. Between each gear the spores began to puff up and grow. Dense, thin roots began to grow, wrapping around the gears as the golem was knelt over. Slowly growing in thick plant matter that squished between the gears. Into the joints of the knees, arms, and head he began to grow his counter attack. This would by the team time at the very least.

"But I might need a push. You think you can whip up something like that?" Kurin smiled as he looked at Jaakuna, having to stiffle a laugh. "You sure about this?" He said, grabbing the scruff of his jacket. His grip tightened, wood starting to grow from his fingers, and he began to spin. Being bigger and heavier than Jaakuna helped matters, and all it took was one quick spin to build up the momentum he needed. Like a whip, he tossed Jaakuna up into the air, more than enough force what what his ally had in mind. And because it had to be mentioned, he jumped to the side, avoiding the laser when it passed by him.

The other three took some initiative, which was probably for the best as Kurin watched them approach the statue. All three pushing their chakra into it, powering the machine further. His telescopic eyes zoomed in, focusing on the metal core. Well, that's a start. A thin layer of dust coated him, before he was easily dusted off. The golem was impressive, and Kurin followed in suit. He admired the architecture, the way it was built and designed. Though he had to admit it was particularly cruel to weaken a team before a big fight. Especially since he was 99% sure at this point that there was a worm. But, the others had sacrificed their power so he could protect them with complete certainty, so that wasn't exactly going to leave the weight from his back.

Pride of the Senju, he was even more proud of the others in his team. Kiku for making the largest sacrifice, and Jaakuna for at least having a little initiative. Shizuka for working with the others, though he suspect him to be bitter over Kurin letting Kiku even take part in the draining. Either way, what's done is done, so there was no changing their choices. They all had a mark to bare now. So at least they had some memory to take away from this. Kurin would have the memory of his team, from Shizuka, to Kiku, and maybe Jaakuna too. Sad they hadn't been working on a more combat oriented challenge. Jaakuna would have been all the stronger for it.

Kurin took the lead, moving slowly and holding a hand up. Ready to defend against the first thing that moved. And yet, this area was unlike the others. No light, but no metal that could disrupt his wood jutsu. Thankful at the very least for that. he began to gesture to Shizuka, telling him to stand behind Kurin. If anything got past his defense, it was up to Shizuka's wind to block it. "Kiku, echolocation please?" Kurin whispered softly, knowing she'd hear him well enough to get an idea of what needed to be done. And then, he led the way, taking the right of the two doors. In the dark, he knew something was wrong. Bones littered the floor, human he suspected, leaning down to investigate closer. His telescopic eye gazed into the dark, as if he was trying to figure out what was in there, or if it was even alive.

"Something is there... Jaakuna, we need light to see. Once engagement happens, we'll need you to figure out a way to light up the room. It seems big enough to allow some loss of oxygen." Kurin whispered, glancing to look Jaakuna in the eyes. "I need you, okay buddy? Shizuka, I'll try to slow it down if I can, you need to deal the fatal blow if you're still up for it." He said, keeping as quiet as he could. "You all fine with that game plan?" Whatever it was in there, if it hadn't heard the massive door opening, then it was possible it had trouble hearing. Might rely on vibrations in the earth? Either way, they all had to be on their feet.

Bumu wasn't impressed. The area looked nice and shiny, but to call the fish people pretty? Far stretch. Then again, his opinion on what was beautiful involved a red fur coat. Human boobs didn't do a thing for her. So as they where greeted by the leader, Bumu floated around. Brushing a hand against each column, feeling the intricate design work of the whole ordeal.
As for the distorted voice, it sounded like his mother... She never said anything sweet. Guard the temple this. Clean the floor that. Being a guardian fox sent to protect temples and stuff was the worst! So as soon as Bumu could, he learned how to turn into a human. Stealing one of the sacred family robes, though it was just fancy clothing, the fox had opted to blend in with humans. Taking on her father's last name just for extra measure. Sometimes he wondered if he could ever return to her home if things went tits up in the human world.

But, more important matters where at hand. His eyes focused across the area, spotting the scroll alongside the rest of the team. As a shrine fox, Bumu knew well enough what a symbol of worship was. And how immediately it would be a bad idea to tell their savior exactly why they came here. "You see..." Bumu said, speaking up first. "We've traveled all this way because we heard of a glorious temple, and a shrine of great importance." Butter on the ego. "We didn't realize how dangerous the trip down was, but we sought to pray. Pray for good waters and seas to travel through on our later journeys." He smiled, sly as a fox that one was. Couldn't even call it lying, since they technically where there for the scroll on the shrine. "I even brought tribute from the surface world!" She declared, holding up a tag. "I grew up in a temple. In order to bring good luck and fortune, we would hang these up in shrines." Unless they where very versed in the ways of the surface world, it was doubtful they could tell an explosive tag form a shinto tag. Even better was how Bumu so easily controlled the tag, changing the color to a lovely white, more befitting honesty and purity to hide the truth further. "I offer this as tribute. But more so as a sign of good fortune, and faith between us. I brought enough to share with all of you if you wish."

It was so odd seeing Gisho have to delegate between three different people. A dirty rain person, A dirty mud person with the title of Tsuchikage, and himself. A dirty fox person who wondered if any bath could get that smell of dirt out out of his nose. Being buried dead was probably the second worst thing to happen to him. First worst... That was Seijuro. He was tasked with keeping Seijuro in hell. One lone duty to preform over the rest of time until both of them where forgotten and it could get easier. And yet, it didn't. He swore he'd fended off at least three different attempts to rescue Seijuro from hell. At least two of them where Seijuro's own plans. Maybe if the puppet fuck didn't complain so much he wouldn't have had to resort to an improvised muzzle for him. Either way, hell had been humbling. And then the chains broke. One second holding them, the next they where breaking apart in his grip. Only to watch as that cackling madman returned to the world. And now? Jaakuna was dragged out too.

Well, in the very least Gisho really did care about h- WAIT A MINUTE! Did he just called Jaakuna's family a skulk!? As in a bunch of foxes! How long did Gisho sit on that jab!? Did it take a funeral to give the guy a good sense of humor and witty comebacks!? "You son of a-" Wait... He was still in disguise. "Ah... Yes..." He leaned back, fingers pressing together. Oops, a bit too much of his signature relaxing pose. "Well, my father loved to tell stories. He'd gather us around, make a little circle, and spend hours just recounting his adventures. I admit, the ninja life was never for me, and I became a merchant." He laughed softly at this. "Ha ho!" Was he even trying to hide who he was anymore? Maybe he just wanted to see how blatant he could get? "I bet that if he was still around, he'd be insisting you still do all that stuff for him. You're doing a great job." He leaned forward, watching the TVs with a smile.

Everybody was doing such a great job. Especially that boy who seemed to be stealing his clan emblem. Not a familiar face he had to admit. But there must have been at least one kid he had before he died. So that was something. Couldn't swim worth shit. And the Earth Challenge? Riveting stuff. To be honest, he'd have failed that one in a moment. Patience was never his thing and he would have just called on Kurama to tear the whole mountain apart. Thankfully he had Gisho back then to help him remain focused on something other than building up his combo score or juggling routine.

And then, he felt that surge. His heart cracking in two, and it was over. A single tear ran down his cheek, and then another. His eyes drifted to the hand clutching his shoulder, but he didn't pull away. No, he deserved all of this for screwing up so badly. This was his punishment, and everything bad from here on out was on him for not keeping Seijuro in hell. Tears streamed out like a waterfall, crashing to the ground in soft plips. Tears running down his sleeves as he tried to wipe his cheeks. "I'm so sorry... Gautama." And then, he couldn't hold it together. Before anybody could protest, Jaakuna slammed his hands together, and poofed. The fox tipping his hand and revealing they'd been playing with a clone.

Miles away, the real Jaakuna sat alone on a branch. Occassionally he looked down, to make sure his least favorite person was still around. Until he placed a hand to his cheek. Feeling the tears running down and soaking into his pants. "Damn it... I'm going to set things right... I swear Gautama." He whispered to himself. "I swear it."

Golems, of course. They'd seen a few earlier. To Kurin at the very least this seemed to be rather obvious. He stepped closer, a hand running along the rock structure, appreciating just how it seemed to be structured. Impressive, and the stone was magnificently carved. And yet, it was very clear what they where expected to do. At least from what the designer of the event had in mind. These where guardians, and they where most likely intruders. But still, even intruders could admit that something was well designed, if a bit of a stand out difference from the others. "Incredible." He whispered to himself, leaning in to look at the core.

But the writing on the wall made it clear how it worked. Raiton jutsu. And electrical charge that would power the metal core. And judging from what he knew of the others from the exams, only one of the four was skilled in Raiton techniques. "I don't think Shizuka will have much to say." Kurin said, looking to his ally. His telescopic eye whizzing and whirring as he looked at the most important person in the room. "I think this is all your choice here. The machine needs a charge. A structure this big, no matter how efficent will require a great deal of energy." Kurin said, trying his best not to sound bossy. "In effect, you're the only person here who can make the choice of what to do next. So, I guess that makes you team captain for the moment. Will you take the burden all yourself, or delegate?" This was a lot of pressure to suddenly dump on somebody, and Kurin knew it. Unfortunately breaking this hard point down into something easily digestible was nearly impossible.

"Keep in mind, whatever choice you make, I'll back you up." Kurin added, throwing in a smile for extra measure. He had faith in his team at the moment. While very little seemed to have been done, they could at least work together when the moment called for it. But even for what he had to say, he knew Shizuka's vote of confidence was needed. After all, he brought them through the last challenge. Taking a step back, the senju tapped the floors and walls. Investigating the rest of the room. The shafts of light seemed to give him a bit of a shimmer as he walked around. But he never strayed too far from the other three.
"Kiku, what do you think?" Kurin said, as if acknowledging the blind ninja for the first time. It probably was. "Do you sense any way forward that may not require charging the golem?" He knew that Kiku would probably sacrifice some of her energy to help Jaakuna, if only because at this point, the team was in a situation in which none of their particular brand of skills worked. Genjutsu may not be useful against the golem if it turned out to be the enemy for the challenge. But, he could hope.

Bumu's fingers dug into the seams of Koma's robes, holding on tightly as if her life depended on it. And chances are his life DID depend on it. It was clear that Bumu never properly learned how to swim, but at least the others did. The way down though? Bumu was struggling to hold on fairly quickly. Fingers seemed to slip more and more frequently as the lack of air made him ache from the inside out. Vision dimming, and senses swimming in confusion. In all honesty, it seemed the trial was over. Losing grip, Bumu black out, mouth open to take a deep breath. And then, air! But it didn't come in through the lungs, but something new that tickled the sides of her neck. Bumu's vision cleared suddenly, hands reaching up to his neck, only to be stopped by one of the mermaids surrounding them. Oh shit, merfolk. So the legends where true! Wonder what they tasted like...

"Are we all having the same dying hallucination, or did sushi just save us?" Bumu whispered with incredible difficulty. After all, learning to talk underwater was a trial in and of itself. It was all very pretty underwater, despite the salt hurting her eyes a little. But the challenge itself seemed to point in one direction, as there weren't any other structures around that seemed to be so pointed to. And yet, the fish people gave Bumu the hibby jibbys. They may have saved them, but boy was it never a good sign to see the mystical side of things.
"Oh! And thanks for the help! But, I have a question..." Bumu said, raising a hand at one of the merfolks. "What's that building? Do you know what's inside?"

In a shocking twist, as they reached for the sky, it all went tits up and upside down. The barrier cracking and breaking, and water rushed into the tight space. "Ah fox berries!" There, his opponent for the day. How... Glorious. Nousagi pushed the doors open, his eyes closed as he walked closer and closer. A deep breath as he stopped in the center of the arena.

Nousagi didn't have a complex history, nor did he care to think about it. No, this moment, and all moments, was about him. Nousagi Hyuuga and his opponent. His eyes cracked open, a milky white gaze crossing the chasm of a distance. The veins of his cheeks erupted, and his brow furrowed. The world around Nousagi began to glow, a shimmering light of beautiful light. The gaze of the Hyuuga drifted onto the eyes of Kaito Chosokabe.
"It's a pleasure to meet you." Nousagi said, voice echoing across the distance. "I am Nousagi Hyuuga, and I have been chosen as your opponent." A smile creaked across his lips. "I am ready when you are. If you accept my challenge." His stance widened, one hand in front of the other. A wide stance, he didn't even bother hiding what he could do. After all, the name of Hyuuga was so well known that pretending to be anything else would be an insult to himself and to his family name. He'd end this in one go.

THUM! As Hikaru's fist collided with the drum, a beat surged through the room. Everything shuddered. The walls and stairs rattled like body had picked the whole room up like a toy. Every vibration thumping through the four competitors and letting it ring out. The drum slowly began to die out, still shaking like a leaf before it stopped. The room was silent for a moment, and then once more, it was shaken to the core. A sound echoing out, but unlike the drums, it's far more beastly.

SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

A beast screamed into the air, once more shaking the room. But, there! A flash of light! In the already bright room it would be impossible to track, but it was there. Another flash, and the group was hit by a force. A force like a bull smashing into them, blinding siding them completely in that blinding white light. And then, it was gone, vanished into the shimmering light of buddha's glow. But more a moment, as a shadow of one of the four brushed along the form of the enlightened one...

And then it was gone. Leaving only Buddha behind.

Something... Something was very wrong about this challenge.

Kurin had to admit that he had gone through a bit of a leap in logic. Thinking far too hard on the problem at hand. In truth, he adored challenges. All the thoughts and methodologies that came to a head. And as it became more and more clear that nothing they could do would open the door safely, and nor did the puzzle itself seem to have a solution or even a key, he took a seat. Turning his hand into a shield of wood, he stretched it out over the group, being a little shield against debris. It wouldn't hold if the whole thing collapsed, but it was better than getting a rock to the face. With no agreed upon solution, it seemed they had to wait the puzzle out. And in the most disappointing of outcomes, it turned out that the challenge indeed presented them with a solution... Do nothing. Kurin, had to admit this was the most disappointing outcome... It felt less like a test of skill, and more a test of patience. Which one could argue was an important skill too.

Either way, as everything happened around them, Kurin couldn't help but look at the mechanism. Either way, when it came time to approach the door, he took first step. "Well Shizuka, that was fine work. Don't rub it in any faces though." Kurin laughed softly, either out of nerves or because he actually thought it was funny. "But, good work none the less." He approached the door, watching it slide open and looked to the team. As the most defensive of the group, he took the front. If things went south, he wanted to be able to react first. Helped that out of the whole group, he was the only one who had a skill set available at the moment. His telescopic lens focused ahead of the group, spying on whatever may come up.

"Any thoughts on what may be ahead?" Kurin asked, looking to Shizuka. The boy seemed to be most on game today, even if their personalities collided a bit. In fact, the group seemed to be a mix of strong emotions, and more logical strict learning. This seemed less and less like a puzzle, and more like a simple trip down a historical avenue. Was there a lesson here? Or maybe he should stop thinking so much. They'll figure it out as it comes. They just had to get to the scroll and be done with it. "Kiku, Jaakuna, good work with the fire idea." Kurin added, feeling at least some praise was deserved no matter if it failed.

Kurin was starting to notice that change in Shizuka's mannerisms. From a somewhat likable if goofy individual to the 'ideal leader.' Not that a leader would break somebody's radio. He left the broken pieces behind as they kept moving through the challenge. Shizuka was probably the most useless of the team skill wise at the moment, second to Jaakuna. He was used to wide open area, and while he wasn't about to mention it, he suspected that knowledge made Shizuka all the more unwilling to cooperate. After all, a 'leader' didn't look weak in front of his soldiers. Guess that was the difference in their personal philosphy. Kurin didn't care who lead, just as long as everybody left alive, and sometimes that required stepping into the role of leadership. Shizuka clung to leadership like a dog, fighting off anybody who tried to reach for it. Arguing about it now was meaningless, as they where clearly being timed. But if push came to shove, Kurin would do what was best for the team, not just what Shizuka wanted. Some aspire to greatness, and some have it thrust upon them.

Kurin was starting to catch on that this challenge was inflexible. Attempting to stop the impending collapse of the tunnels seemed to only just be that. Holding off an impending absolute. Guess that kind of inflexible planning fit with an earth theme'd challenge. But the mechanism of the timer was clearly important. It stopped the tremors, if only for a moment. They still had that door to worry about, which didn't open. "Keep an eye on the button, we may need to keep pushing it if this takes too long." Kurin said, looking to one of his team. It didn't matter who, but at least they could keep it simple right now. He had to admit, the puzzle itself seemed based around these golems. Something about them just made it more and more clear that they where important.

"Chances are, these are the Jian-Huren." Kuren said, placing a hand on one of the golems. "They're the guardians of this place, and the way out is to find the Dajian. Minister." Kuren added, for those unaware of the dialect. "We need to find the minister, who is either behind this door, or we missed him along the way." But one thing always bugged him. Worm. It came up a lot, but... WAIT! Jian-Huren was Chinese! He couldn't believe he didn't realize it. The tribes of china had fought a force known as the m- Mongolian Death Worm. "Quick, Mongolian Death Worms. What do you know about them?" Kurin said, turning to the others. His eyes focusing on each of them. "Trick question, it spits acid and the touch is deadly. We have a big metal door we can't break with force, and acid make a hole without damaging the surrounding structures." Kurin explained quickly. "Either this worm is a metaphor, or it's real and that's what we need to get through the door. The beast was documented by a Minister!" Either he was going off on a wild idea, or he was cracking the mystery. "But it's a desert dwelling creature. But, it's still a worm. And worms come to the surface when it rains."

This entire thing was either making him look like a mad man, or a genius. Either way, they had a door they couldn't force open, a great deal of stone guardians, and a minister to find. But unless anybody else had an idea, it seemed they'd need to use this worm to break the door for them. The problem was, it was a death worm for a reason. If it was even still alive. He'd rather explore this idea than continue just standing around.

Alright, they're going to blast right through the ceiling, huh? Bumu was not happy with this whole ordeal, as at best his swimming was kinda mediocre. Just not something that came up. She could do the fox paddle, but that's about it if you want to be honest. Either way, they couldn't just break through normally. They had to have a lot of force. The fox snorted softly, holding out his hands, and there was the fluttering of paper. Bumu's fox eyes shimmered in the dark, and paper tags began to collect at the bottom of the barrier. "Here's the plan. Barrier inside a barrier." She grinned from ear to ear, becoming a focal point for attention. "When Barrier A breaks, I detonate these. The water will buffer the impact, turning explosive forces into a concussive force. We'll shoot out like a fucking arrow from a cannon!" It was honestly more complex than that, but simple was as simple does. His little trick with the oil had bought them seconds, but that was all they needed. Explosive tags used an internal combustion method, sealed in a wax inline to keep water out. If they could be used in rain, they'd work this way too.

Bumu liked these two. Sure they got stiffed on the 4th teammate, but they'd make it work. Task 1, get to the surface, if that works, they'll experiment with the rest of the environment. They still had a scroll to find, it's not as easy as just getting out of one trap. Shame, because this one trap was more impressive than any of the others he had seen in a while. Maybe she'd experiment with water techniques later. Sounds fun.
"Ready when you are, Captain Kaba!" Bumu declared, making use of 'talking is a free action.'
