Current The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

The one time I'm really eager for a Gundam - or even a mecha game where I can play using a Gundam - the site doesn't have any open or even going

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

RL killing pacing
'sounds fair, since I was describing her via several ill-fitting cliches that kept getting piled on top of each other. I'll dial it back a bit, especially the impulsiveness causing/used-to-rationalize at least half those statblock shenanigans.

... Kinda still want to keep a large shotgun though (the KS-23, not some MAS-type). Mostly because if a pilot does need to bail-out chances are there's still going to be a MAS-sized threat they'll have to deal with and a combat-knife probably won't be able to cut it. But I suppose a demolition-charge could work in its place.

I'm also hoping the survival-cloak could become standard-issue, actually. As a means to aid pilots in SERE should they need to bail. It also has alternative uses of it for running recon, sniping, and taking naps. I figure such a piece of kit may be genuinely useful for anyone and everyone.

Most of the rework is working on phrasing. Personality may take awhile, brain is stuck on "owl".

I did consider giving the MAS Suits active camouflage, but eventually decided against it - they've got too much going on already, and I figured it'd be something for progression in the story. So, maybe not the camo cloak yet, but it might be something that gets discovered or invented over the course of the narrative and gameplay.
KS-23 is fine, given the kind of threats that are around it's not unreasonable that they may have become more common in production and wider usage. Synths being what they are, and the same for aggressive alien fauna. Although, hopefully, bailing out of your MAS Suit won't be something you have to deal with all too often, and even if you do have to deal with it, hopefully the rest of the squad will still be around to help.
Owls are good, I like owls. Both real ones and anthro ones.

@FalloutJack, regarding the derg siblings - I think my reservations were a little on the lines of 'they don't quite match what I was thinking for the Dranfel', less in terms of their appearance, but more their 'culture'. But then, I had a think about it (when I was trying to sleep and failing), and figured that, much like our own society, Dranfel society wouldn't be completely homogenous.
That's one thing that does annoy me in Sci-Fi sometimes, when you have an alien race and they're all one personality trait or set of customs and traditions. So, perhaps it's because of whichever region they're from and that culture is somewhat different to that of other Dranfel.
I will say that the emphasis on melee combat seems a bit antiquated in the setting, given the reliance on technology, and that you might need to reframe that slightly, and the same with giving them more of a conventional military/paramilitary background and training.
But it's not a big deal, and can easily be squeezed in.

Maxson's claw weapons also seem like they'd make good MAS Suit weapons too, honestly - I did actually consider something similar but left it out at the last minute.
Give them a little bit of a tweak, and I think they'll be fine, thank you ^^

heyo, I literally joined the site after reading your interest check haha. I skimmed through everything but am interested in creating a human character to add to the cast! I have a vague idea (I only know they will be Korean and have some fun psychic ability) so will ruminate after reading more thoroughly and submit. but do lmk if you are already at character limit or approaching it!

I'm flattered that you thought the RP was enough to want to join the site and join in. Have fun reading, but the character idea sounds like a good starting concept already.
No hard cap as of yet; still waiting on some people to submit their apps after the interest check, so we'll see who comes across or not from there.

</sniptacular>

I must admit, with your name and PFP, I expected a Dranfel xD
But, I like Callan; they seem interesting. Someone more from the science/tech side is a good compliment to the heavy military/combat bias we have so far. My only thing of note is that they'd probably have received some formal training before being assigned to a SPEAR team, if only to make sure everyone knows how to work together - regardless of how smart they are, but that's a minor thing.
I would say, as far as their abilities go, I don't think having been enhanced as much as they are and then having other abilities on top of that is necessary - that would already make them very formidable. Having other abilities on top of that is a bit unbalanced. I would say that having the 'sixth sense' - though, don't expect it to always be accurate in practice, of course - and a high degree of enhancements is fine, without the technical ability as well. Especially given their extremely high level of competence in a fairly broad range of fields. Although, if you can explain the Systems Interface Attenuation ability in a more practical sense, that might help - as it stands at the moment, the description doesn't really explain what it actually does very well from my reading of it.

</snip, snip hooray>

You must have posted them just as I was writing my previous post, as otherwise I would have said something.
I'll give the app another look over properly tomorrow, as it's getting late here and I want to re-read it all without fuzzy cobwebs. They look mostly all right, but there may be a few tweaks.

Also - the colour you used for Maxon's name at the heading caught me out, I thought it was a link because of the colours the Guild uses xD

Approved, she sounds fantastic.

I especially love the designer earmuffs...!

<many words, I will not bother repeating from one post above>

She just sounds like she has too many 'cool' things going on to me. She's a hybrid and she has dermal plating she installed herself(!!), and she has an MAS shotgun she uses, and she sometimes uses an MAS rifle by hand, and she has a camo cloak, and she's really fast, and she's really durable, and she can do coms-wizz and hacker stuff, and she was a successful tank commander, and-
It's bit too much, and too extra for what I'm pitching.

Her being a hybrid is being 'special' enough TBH, as she's the only one of her kind. That and one of the other things would probably make her stand out. But even so; she's a bit too... extra in some ways for my liking - I have to admit, the 'installed dermal plating herself' thing made me audibly groan and roll my eyes, especially combined with the 'shunned loner, who works alone most often'. It's a bit of a cliche storm right now, especially adding in the 'and she carries really big guns she made herself'.
It needs a bit of toning down and moderation. Bear in mind, your characters are:
a) already part of an elite operations unit
b) already piloting mecha
They don't need to do much to be super cool, both of those things are few and far between in the setting, and your characters have been hand-picked for their roles.
Which, also, means that while 'quirky' individual personality traits and distinctions in actions are definitely wanted, things like 'got high and performed surgery on herself, and lacks impulse control' probably isn't going to put someone first in line for consideration.

Also, I'm just flat-out saying 'no' to the MAS weapons being used at character scale. Regardless of any real-world justification.
If you want her to have a big gun, have her personal weapons be something like an LMG, an auto shotgun or an antimateriel rifle.

Please rework her, or come up with a new character concept, as at the moment I'm not going to approve Felix as she is
[/snipperoo]

She seems mostly okay; I would say that I'd imagine both the Dranfel and the Anhur would be more accepting - but then maybe she just fell in with a particularly bad group on both occasions, as they're as individual as anyone is so there's bound to be bad apples.

I'm going to veto the sawn-off 4-gauge, as I think that's a bit OTT, especially if she's only 4'8", and it's double-barrelled, as that just seems a bit... much to me. Same with lugging the MAS Assault Rifle - especially when you could just take an anti-materiel rifle that's actually made for the job, it's a bit unnecessary. It would also come with a scope, instead of the MAS ones which don't, and would be massively oversized for the hand controls and have horrible ergonomics for firing, as well as no recoil compensation for human-sized people. Especially at her size. And I mean, the point of having the MAS Suits in the RP is to use them.
If the idea is that she has enhanced strength/endurance/etc because she's genetically engineered, that doesn't fit well with the concept that she has no advantages from the process, IMHO.

Rework those things a bit, if you please, and I'll give her another look over.

Apologies for my lack of replies/interaction, my mind has been elsewhere of late, and motivation has been lacking. I will try and get something up soon.

I am also going to be on holiday next week, so posts will be minimal, if any, but I will catch up properly when I get back. Hopefully I should be able to get a post up before I leave, however.
@Rhona W Ty. Also, Idk if anyone else is having this problem, but I can't see your character image.

Hmm, I'll have a fiddle with it. TBH; I'm going to redraw it anyway, as it's an older piece of art, and I can do a lot better with the experience I've got since then.

EDIT: Updated it - reason was it was a link from FurAffinity, and those always seem to be weird for linking off-site. Changed it to my DeviantArt gallery instead. I prefer that picture anyway.

Ah, looks like I checked out the wrong thread. . . anyway, I'm somewhat interested, so I'll be glancing over this.

Only somewhat interested? What could I do to get your excitement up a bit more than that?
Hi,

Wasn't sure if I should post this in the actual OOC or here.

After some consideration my friend and I have decided to bow out of the roleplay.

Thanks for the opportunity, and good luck on the roleplay!

Oh, that's a shame. Any particular reason why, or anything I can do to encourage you back?
FYI anyone who ends up here - the RP has now been retooled as Splintered/Reflections, which you can check out here - roleplayerguild.com/topics/197010-spl…

Name: Silverwind Blade

Nickname: Silver, Silv

Age: 50

Species: Canuss; Vulpine

Appearance:

Silverwind is a vulpine-looking canuss. His coloration mostly matches that of a red fox. He has grey creeping in around his muzzle and through the thick, brown hair atop his head, and his fur is growing more shaggy and unruly with age.
While he is not especially tall, topping out at 5' 5" (not including his ears), he has quite the 'presence' of personality and appearance, not least due to the scars he carries on the left of his muzzle, the chunk missing from his ear on the same side, and the patch covering his missing left eye, hints of a scar showing from beneath it. This is all also completed by the cybernetic replacement left arm, made of black-and-white plastics and composites. His remaining eye is a warm, deep brown.

Silverwind carries himself with military bearing and experience, and this is reflected in his practical military-style clothing at all times; BDU-style pants, boots, and practical T-Shirts, often accompanied by a flight jacket.

His voice - despite being from Canuss, and not at all Earth or the United States especially - has a rough and gruff tone to it, and an accent somewhat resembling a 'southern drawl' from the Southern US states.

Personality:
Silverwind often comes across as gruff and closed-off when first meeting him, but it is simply a case that he has a combination of awkwardness with small talk, and of not believing in 'wasted words'. He does, in truth, have quite a depth of feeling and character, but it takes a while to crack this hard exterior, and find the warmth of the person below. Though, it is often expressed in smaller gestures and actions towards those he has a fondness for.
He has had a difficult life. His early years was pleasant, but it quickly changed as the Totality came to Canuss. At first, the war was something that happened far away, but it quickly grew to take over the world and his life along with it. He lost friends, family and lovers to the Totality and the war that came with them, and fighting them became his life - and it turned out, he was an excellent soldier. But he can't help but think what else he could have been, given the chance to have a different kind of life.
Given his experience, he has little patience for ignorance, wilful stupidity or other such distractions. Mindgames and manipulation or other kinds of messing with people and their lives or emotions will result in scathing disregard and utter contempt for said person, and even violent retribution if it leads to others - especially if they are loved ones or innocents - coming to harm.
Silverwind is definitely more on the side of morality and justice. He very much tends to stand up for those who are unable to protect themselves, or are downtrodden and oppressed, and will always fight against anyone who forces their will on others.
He has quite a sense of humour, although it definitely skews more toward the acerbic, sarcastic, ironic and quick-witted or smart-mouthed than the kind of 'goofy' or 'obscure' and outlandish humour.

History:
  • Born in remote town of Northhome in Western Continent of Canuss
  • Grew up during early years of Totality invasion
  • Enlisted in military as soon as old enough; passed training with ease
  • Parents killed in Totality attack on Northhome
  • Sister missing after Totality attack on her home
  • Fought in several notable battles, before fall of Canuss government
  • Heavily injured during fall of Xerxes; Canuss largest city
  • Recovered over next six months as part of Resistance
  • Fitted with cybernetic arm, returned to Resistance fighting
  • First experiences with command role, gained some minor notoriety
  • Contact with other Coalition races, first joint operations, first off-world experiences
  • First successful raids against Totality forces
  • Operations with Human forces as part of Coalition
  • Took part in the Florida battle, received recognition for his contributions - but plays this down.
  • Joined SPEAR after fall of Florida monolith, selected for command position.

Key Skills & Abilities:
  • Experienced Marksman
  • Trained in use of heavy weapons
  • Command experience
  • Trained in operation of VTOL attack and combat aircraft and their weapons

Special Abilities:
Despite missing his left eye, Silverwind still has exceptional spatial awareness and perception. His depth perception seems only minimally affected, and he is still able to pilot aircraft and use weapon systems with few disadvantages.
His age is likewise seeming not to slow him down as much as would be expected. If anything, his ageing seems to be slowing down. His reaction times and sensory perception have dulled somewhat, but not to the extent one would expect for his age, and his injuries.
His health - other than effects from lasting injuries, such as recurring aches and stiffness - is in excellent condition otherwise - despite being a regular drinker and smoker.
He of course has a cybernetic replacement left arm. It does not enhance his strength, being a prosthetic replacement rather than an enhancement. However, he has had it 'modified' over the years. It is built of reinforced composite materials that make it very durable and sturdy, making it useful to block melee strikes, and to perform hand-to-hand combat strikes. It has a built in contact taser, as well as a holdout single-shot 12 gauge shotgun that is hidden; the arm needing to split open to fire it through the palm of his hand.
The arm is also more fireproof, and electrically insulated than his organic body parts.
Given his extensive military background, Silver has opted to have communications implants, as well as a tracking/distress beacon/vital signs monitor implant installed.

Personal Weapons:
  • Stoner SR-25 Semi-automatic sniper rifle with suppressor, bipod, vertical foregrip, telescopic sight and laser aiming module (in desert camo)
  • KnightWerx Master Pistol (aka, KMP) - a Canuss military sidearm; it is capable of both semi-auto and automatic fire, and has extended magazines, a threaded barrel (for a suppressor) and a mounting rail for a light, laser, or other accessory. Silverwind's one has been rechambered to use .45 ACP ammunition, due to the lack of readily available Canuss rounds.
  • Contact taser built into cybernetic arm
  • 'holdout' single-shot 12-gauge shotgun built into cybernetic arm (has to be manually reloaded; arm all-but splits apart to fire it)
  • Combat/survival knife
  • Combat/Survival tomahawk (with a monomolecular edge)
  • Frag, Smoke & Plasma grenades

Personal Equipment:
  • Pebble
  • Hip flask containing Alerian Fireroot Spirit (basically, Canuss Whisky)
  • Multi tool (the Canuss equivalent of a Leatherman or a Swiss Army Knife)
  • Hydration pack (3l water, built in filter and purifier)
  • Canuss Harmonica equivalent (he's actually quite good!)
  • Personal body armour (which has MOLLE-like load-bearing) & harnesses, holsters, etc
  • chemlights
  • flex-cuffs/cable ties
  • duck tape/sniper tape/100mph tape (you know the stuff, it's ubiquitous)
  • Canuss 'smokes' (cigarettes) and a lighter (they don't smell as bad as human cigarettes, cigars or weed, and have a calming, stabilising effect on the nerves. Like a very mild high)
